One cool note about the scene where Spartan Griffin dies, is that on Xbox your controller was vibrating to his heartbeat, so you could feel him slowly slipping away until his heart stopped.
It also vibrates for the Chief's heartbeat when he and Weapon are traveling through the portal while having cortana visions. It also vibrates when Echerum yells in cutscenes or when there are other physical actions happening in the scenes. Makes a more captivating experience when watching the screen.
Dang I played on PC. I gotta check this out over my Xbox controller! Aww man that means I have to fight Chak’Lok with a controller. I’m pants when it comes to playing shooters with controller haha. Difficulty will go up by 1 when I play on controller lol
One of the only times I've enjoyed controller feedback in a game. Usually it pulls me out of the experience but this instance actually pulled me deeper into the moment.
Canada yeah I’m I’m gonna show you freaking life Donald Donald Donald Donald Donald 00. I love my mind of Georgia Don well God, God Moore I can’t eat on them but yeah, I’ll call them five me up like effing. I got your AI katana John on John where are you gonna be?
I love how she asks multiple times "Why wont you trust me?", and then when she realizes what she is she reverses it by saying "How can you trust me?". Love that little detail in her story
A detail I love is the way the monitors in this game have that “pulse” VFX when they talk that Guilty Spark in Halo 1 had or the male Monitor who says “oh hello” as his greeting… one of Guilty Spark’s nasty habits
Jen Taylor deserves all the awards. Her performance was incredible in this game, as she managed to perfectly nail the personalities of Halsey, Cortana, AND the Weapon.
I would wager the entire series has been carried by her. From Sassy CE Cortana to Eager To Please Weapon-Cortana, she has never not been an absolute pleasure to hear.
@@BrandonsUsername Jen Taylor is one of my most favorite voice actress. It would be cool if she would do together with TomTom and Microsoft a voicepack for car navi´gation systems
I have always loved the detail of the pilot struggling to open the pelican cockpit doors and then Chief easily opens it with one hand later. Such a great detail I feel a lot of people miss.
I also noticed this! This also managed to fix it since it was neither opening or closing properly until Chief pushed it aside and it’s Lock Screen turned green.
When the pilot is grieving, the chief kneels down next to him, which causes the camra to shake briefly, and the controller to slightly vibrate as well. He's a big heavy green man, lol.
Chief’s armor in Infinite has to be my absolute favorite not just because it’s back in that classic design with a modern take but it looks like an absolute tank and that detail definitely didn’t miss on it lol
@@Seyomint The thing I noticed immediately is that, unlike MkIV-VI, this iteration gives Chief a lot of bulk, and not just in the armor. With the older iterations, he looked so thin, which, yeah, Spartans are meant to be lean not bulky. But he looks mega beefy in Infinite now.
I was confident that he would notice that. He knows his shit. Truly tragic the game was half as long as it deserved to be. Truly an incredible foundation
Escharum had so much respect for chief through this game, He seen chief as the ultimate fight. He seen him as a true legend, I love that chief ended that with mutual respect for a warrior.
This ring is Zeta Halo. It’s the most significant ring in Halo lore because it’s the only surviving ring of the original 12 ring array. It’s the oldest Halo Ring still intact. It was the ring Didact killed all those humans on, it was the ring Master Builder used to do Flood testing on the ancient humans, it’s the ring the Primordial captured (a precursor and first gravemind), it’s the ring Mendicant Bias stole, it’s the ring the Flood used against the Forerunners. The Flood brought this ring to the Forerunner capital Maethrillian and activated it killing almost the entire Forerunner government and destroying 5 of the original 12 rings. The surviving Forerunners fled to the Greater Ark but the Flood followed and destroyed the Greater Ark along with the other 6 rings the Forerunners had from the original 12. The few survivors of the Greater Ark fled to the Lesser Ark ( the one from Halo 3 and Wars 2. ) and activated the smaller array that we see in the games. It’s the more significant ring in the lore.
the little moment of chief and the pilot together on their knees is probably the best part of this entire campaign. “how have you ever failed chief” To the one who the UNSC only tells stories of his victories, not the constant people who he’s lost and missions he couldn’t finish, especially with loosing Cortana “We all fail, we all make mistakes. Its what makes us human” John 117 is almost known for being everything but a human, to both his species and others. So to him wanting to express that he is still a human is such a good and deep detail that a pretty decent amount of people know but still cool regardless.
The reason cortana switched sides is because she destroyed the brute homeworld, and to get back at her he was going to kill chief by attacking the infinity, and activating the ring to kill him as they didn't have anything to lose anymore, so cortana switched sides only to save chief, not bc she felt bad for wanting to dictate the universe
Spartan Griffin's death is so much more. Seeing chief fade into shadow in silence is such a reward ot those who know the weight of being the last spartan takes on the chief. Again, he has to ocme to terms with being the last spartan.
blue team is still alive. they were sent on their own mission after blue team got the info to dupe cortana from reach. locke is unknown. while his helmet is on the shoulder of one of the brute bosses as a trophy, there is rumor that he is still alive and running around without armor (and a few less fingers due to them being on the same brutes necklace). spartan palmer status is unknown. the rest of Osiris is unknown. from an audio log, there was some interaction between chief and griffin which loosely points that they were somewhat close. so that might be why chief was more angry than usual
@@maestrubaldur9645 I like the thought that both the player and chief doesn't know. Just like through the original trilogy he was on his own, the last spartan, and then throughout this he is too late to save these spartans with little word on the others. They even play the last spartan track in the ending. I think it s a nice nod.
@codexphil9207 maybe it was more towards the "last spartan on the ring"? I know 343 wanted to bring back the wonder of discovering the unknown by yourself with just you and Cortina like in the first game. I have a feeling that they will slowly introduce more character in the next game. They won't go fireteam style like guardians, but maybe halo 3 style with bringing back arby
In the book, Halo: Shadows of Reach, the Chief and Blue Team return to Reach a bit after the end of Halo 5 when the Infinity is in the run from Cortana. They head into an ONI base on Reach to recover Halsey's cloned brains, which was then used to create the Weapon.
answering your final questions. Lasky and Palmer, the last thing we know about them is through some collectible audios in the game just before Infinity fell. After that, I don't know what else, maybe they are in the ring. Regarding the Halo 4 Spartan Ops characters, they were not mentioned again Locke's whereabouts are unknown, it is only known that a Brute Boss that we defeated in the game has his helmet as a decoration but it is unknown if he is dead or alive. As for Blue Team, before leaving for Zeta Halo, Blue Team was assigned a different mission away from Zeta Halo.
@@kaizammit , I mean, it is amazing seeing how you get so excited, how you totally embrace and enjoy that "Halo essence", I'm enjoying every second of this video, and you, sir, just gained a new sub!
It's really touching how delicate Chief is with the fallen Marines after he jumps out of the Pelican at the start. This game, while flawed, does a really good job of showing Chief's character and humanity through simple body language. I love it.
What I like about the deletion passwords at 1:14:20 is they are mentions to lore. Red Flag was an operation to capture a Covenant Prophet to force peace that was meant to happen right before the Fall of Reach and Cortana was a huge part of it, its why you see Noble Team delivering it to Keyes at the end of Halo: Reach. And Samuel-034 was the first Spartan killed in the Human-Covenant war.
@@andylastname566 I had looked this up a while ago, so I assume this is still the case, unless a retcon happened, but both the story of the book and the game are true, Cortana had split herself, with the larger of her core being on the Autumn, with a smaller part with Halsey and the data she had.
@@CringeKing103 I don't think the book and game are simultaneously canon, and obviously the game takes precedence being a game series, but for starters the timelines don't match, the game takes place over a month or two, while the battle in the book takes place over something like a day, I think it's more impactful, you see that despite the fact this is humanity's best defended world besides maybe Earth, with all of its super MAC cannons and fleet defending it, the covenant fleet still just completely overwhelm them with hundreds of ships, not caring about their losses. Plus the Autumn never reaches the surface, let alone launches from it, they arrive just in time for the battle and flee from Reach just after picking up chief from the space station he's on. I think both the game and book are great in their own ways, the game does a great job of humanising the deaths of all the Spartans for example.
Honestly Kai, absolutely loved to watch every single reactions you did on Halo. It's really refreshing to watch someone (re-)discovering Halo games and lore that actually ALREADY knows much of the basic lore (and that even read some books). It was also really a lot of fun and pretty astonishing seeing you putting everything together so fast and calling out what/why was something happening (you correctly preshot lots of the plot at the beginning of most games loool it was impressive). Would love to see you playing the games now ! If not, see ya in a few years for the next installment 🫡
Also the thing “worse than the flood” is the endless the species of the alien that froze chief armour the harbinger, for some unknown reason they are completely immune to the effects of the halo rings, so the forerunners locked them away somewhere so they can’t escape.
The ring in this game is Zeta Halo. You won't know much about it if you don't know the lore, but it has the deepest lore out of any Halo ring in the universe. Its such a shame that they didn't expand upon any of it in the game itself, would've been so interesting to hear about Mendicant Bias and The Primordial
Somehow the ring has a giant hole on it from some type of damage yet somehow not one flood got out? Logically doesn’t make sense since that’s what would happen
@@jjglazed4852 It has a hole in it because Cortana detonated something. And the Flood could just as well not even be on that part of the ring. They weren't exactly spread out across the previous rings. And the Forerunners wouldn't risk putting the Xalanyn who can survive the Halo's within reach of the Flood. It's possible that any Flood on Zeta Halo were removed.
@ it’s a halo ring man it’s gotta have flood on it they showed a containment holder for a popcorn flood but that was the only reference of flood in the game but they definitely are on that ring 343 just never liked adding flood halo studios seems to like flood a lot more though thank god
It honestly makes me sad because you can see the studio (343) absolutely nailed a lot of the aesthetic on so many levels. The body language, art style, lighting, dialogue, music and sound design, all the aesthetics were finally met for Halo fans. But unfortunately Infinite suffered from lack of rich and basic content and the narrative yet again relied on people learning from outside sources such as books and lore guides. Infinite was definitely a bittersweet moment for us in the Halo community because there is clearly so much potential and finally a step in the right direction and tone for Halo. I'm hoping the new studio (Halo Studios) can capitalize, evolve, and provide. The direction was finally met, but now they need to make it rich in content - something almost every modern game today is struggling to fulfill.
The problem with 343/Microsoft are their hiring practices, they want 6 month contract developers that couldn't be done effectively because new hires needed to be trained to handle the slipspace engine, wich lead to many technical limitations and changes of direction on the game plot, delegating plot points for other media, these problems are supposed to be solved by the halo studios change to unreal engine, keeping the shitty hire practices of Microsoft
I really enjoyed the story of infinite, but my favorite part of Halo has always been the armor I loved the armor in Halo Reach and 1 2 and 3. I hated the armor in four and five I love that they stepped back to the old style of armor in infinite, but when they made every set of armor paywalled instead of unlockable from playing the game that sealed the fate of halo infinite, as just not good. For me anyway
Microsoft and their stupid, corporate greed, lay off policies is what made this game feeling a bit lacking. There's so much cut content, simply because the people working on it kept changing every 6 months. That's how long a contractor worked on the game. Then they get laid off and replaced by others, right when they start getting comfortable with the tools they have. Honestly, with policies as such, this game is a masterpiece, for simply existing and the people that worked on it should be rewarded for somehow clobbering up a pretty good story.
The Ring is Zeta Halo, the oldest Halo of them all and once part of the ORIGINAL Halo Network (which featured much bigger Halos), which got destroyed then the new smaller Installations got build. Zeta was the only Ring that survived and then got scaled down and integrated into the new Network. The Halo from Halo Wars 2 is Installation 04C ( Canonically Installation 09) yet another replacement for the Ring Chief destroyed way back in Combat Evolved)
The thing I love about these videos is that you have a very good eye for detail, knowing it was Atriox at the beginning, most reviews, reactions etc they just miss so much obvious things that I end up frustrated, you are one of those channels not just here for the $$$ and it shows, keep up the great videos, said it before and Ill say it again, you should have 10x the subs. Id love to see more reactions on the great franchises of the past like Quake 3, or absolutely Call of Duty Black Ops 1 and Call of Duty WaW, they have the most amazing stories and cutscenes that they should be top tier movies. Seriously mind blowingly great.
Thank you so much for watching and commenting! I'm only part time doing this, saying that it's more like full time hours but I fit it around my filmmaking job. What I'm saying is I'll eventually get to all those titles you said. Just give me some time and again, thank you for watching. I know it's Atriox now but I've made mistakes in past videos with some characters because I was still learning or got the character confused with another. I'm getting there.
You have to react to the liveaction ads for this game. Called 'UNSC Archives'. It's a great live action short ad for the games and it's various 'updates' that Cheif gets in the game for new mechanics and systems. And you will cry along with the character on the grappling hook one, my favorite.
wow, that final cortana/chief convo works as a really good send off from 343i to Halo Studios as they talk to chief who represents to community/players.
On another cool note- Jega (black elite with red swords) is the only enemy in the game you defeat that instantly cloaks, implying he didn’t actually die & will return in the next chapter (hopefully). He’s also the only elite we’ve seen with prosthetics, as the covenant considered it heresy to augment yourself in such a way. Hence the reason they never tried to make their own Spartan program
I don't know if you caught onto it, but in the very ending cutscene, when the Grand Edict(a Forerunner who survived the first firing of the Halos) said "If Halo cannot stop them, it must imprison them", it's because Forerunners who survived found a species who also survived the firing of the rings and were not cataloged, so it's speculated that The Endless are totally immune to the Halo's, the Flood was not.
Wow, your comment sold me more on the endless than the game did, why? You told me exactly what I'm getting. Sometimes with these games which I hate, it's to cryptic!
@@kaizammit Basically the whole premise of them getting imprisoned is control. The Forerunners vision and plans were at stake. And it's likely known that The Endless are somehow immune or connected to the Flood in one way or another...giving how much worse they could be. Or could be just a simple fact of if The Endless somehow ever got infected, no one knows what could happen. It's such a sad shame they never went deeper into the lore/story with the original "The Endless" dlc that was canned for the live service multiplayer instead
@masterbuilder675 from what I've read it's more likely that the forerunner thought that if the endless ever got assimilated by the flood, the flood wild possibly become immune to the rings as well
Yeah, a problem a lot of people have had with 343’s halo games, they fill in a lot of what happens between games in books and stuff and expect you to either read them, watch RUclipsrs tell you about them or just accept being lost.
Halo infinite its the only game of 343 that for the first time it doesn’t need a lot of books compared to halo 4 and halo 5 For infinite you just needed Rubicon Protocole and shadows of reach
Well, this is cause at first by the critics they receive from the players... so to finish the story they start with each games but which was dislike, they used book to cover that and follow up with something new with the new game...
We are so locked and loaded! Been a long road indeed and I was there for it! Halo Infinite had one of my favorite of Chief. We get to see much more of Chief’s humanity here. He was speechles whenever Cortana was brought up when he wasn’t ready to talk about her. He mourns his fallen spartans quietly and fights for them honorably. Willing to rescue his pilot against all odds and Spartan Killers. And was slightly smug when he hops in the first tank he finds on the Halo. And who says one can’t express emotion behind a helmet? Also finding dead Spartans in Halo Infinite’s campaign really set the tone. My blood boiled whenever coming across one when I played. Chief said what everyone’s thinking. “We’ve got a score to settle.” That line has been used in other places but here it’s cold and carries so much weight.
Funny fact bout the inverted calibration in the beginning. If you take too long to look at the light, Fernando will have a reaction after a few awkward seconds pass, he will silently nudge his head towards the flashlight, gesturing you where to look before closing his eyes in annoyance, taking a deep breath and resuming the normal animation before repeating after a few more seconds of no response from the player haha
Lots of details and questions asked such as what happened to the other characters like Blue Team, Lasky and Palmer and Dr. Halsey, Fireteam Osiris, all of them have been partially answered by finding data file recordings scattered throughout the campaign's world. They also fill in other pieces of world-building as well. Basically many of the UNSC were scattered. When the UNSC Infinity was destroyed by the Banished, many of it's crew were scattered. Lasky was sent to safety aboard a lifeboat and is alive somewhere on the Halo. Locke was also present on this mission and his helmet can be found in the open-world, mounted on a Banished monument, implying he is dead or lost the helm to the Banished. There was also a recording of a conversation between Lasky and Halsey. He reassigned Blue Team to a secret mission, against the wishes of Halsey. Halsey herself is most likely in UNSC hands away from the events of Infinite, and sent Chief on this mission to deploy The Weapon (This is the name used to refer to Cortana's copy in the subtitles). Many other SPartan Teams were aboard the Infinity but whether or not Majestic and Crimson's teams were assigned is left unknown (to me anyway) There was a cut dialog or ending I heard that depicts Fernando receiving a spotty transmission from the UNSC Spirit of Fire from his Pelican radio, which would have tied Halo Wars and Halo Infinite together in this small but important moment. Since this was cut, I'm afraid the info isn't clear and it's unknown if this was officially written into the story, but just imagine that? Chief's small band of UNSC members he managed to rescue on the Halo meeting up with the long lost crew of the Spirit of Fire.
Wow, all that information... So good! Thank you for being here on this journey, been a blast! Oh my goodness, imagine seeing Spirit of Fire and its Spartans. I must install this game immediately!
The open world was such a nice feature but my one critique that many people share is that it’s not as rich as it could have been. It’s full of many points of interests and secrets but the trailers show a much more vast and diverse environment. Dense forests, sandy desert biomes, rocky shores (though you’ll find plenty of rocks and the occasional lakes), and a diversity of wildlife, but instead sits mainly one biome of grasslands mountains and patches of woodland and scattered forerunner and Banished structures and ruins of UNSC ships and equipment. Even the Halo rings from the Bungie trilogy had such biomes, even snowy climates. One could say this is the limitation of the game’s engine which was a major problem for the development team. Halo Infinite runs on the Slipspace Engine. An engine that was made from the ground up for the game but this resulted in nobody knowing how to use it well. Switching to the Unreal Engine was a great move for the new Halo Studios because lots of folks know how to work with it since it’s an Open Source engine. Many wishes and prayers now ride with the new Halo Studios and hopefully we’ve seen the last of it’s development hell and poor leadership it’s been stuck under. It’s not just a fresh coat of paint over the former 343 Industries, but a new team of developers and leaders who should (I hope) know how to bring it back to the light. I mean Halo Infinite is seeing better days recently with new content added with Halo 2’s anniversary to make the occasion
One of the reasons why I love Chief in Halo Infinite is that he treats everyone as an equal, from friend to foe. People hated the Spartan IVs because they were mere "imitations" of Halsey's Spartan IIs. To Chief? They were Spartans regardless of version and treated them like equals. To Escharum (apologies on spelling), Chief treated him as an equal on and off the battlefield honoring him in life and in death. To our friendly pilot friend? Scared out of his mind and wanting to go home? He worked with him through the entire fight and showed that even Spartans are human....they make mistakes, but they try to fix the situation....while making amends to those they may have wronged.
1:41:17 I believe it's sort of the logic of: Cortana realises that her plan is no longer viable, Atriox has her beat, The Weapon was already prepared to lock her down, she knows her whole "for the greater good" plan no longer matters. What does matter, though, is that her actions have led to the Banished acquiring the ring, a weapon they can point at the galaxy to cause untold damage. Cortana's time is up, and she knows it. All she can do now is help Chief stop a greater evil one last time.
I always loved that the second Esparza was in trouble the pair instantly dropped whatever tension was between them, because saving him was the only thing that mattered in that moment.
38:30 If you're playing on a controller, it will vibrate with the Spartans heartbeat and you can feel it getting slower throughout the conversation. It stops when the camera moves to Chief.
curiosity about the Spartan 4 training center station that Cortana exploded, the person in charge of training the Spartans 4 was one of the co-founders of the Spartan 4 program and the last survivor of the Noble Team (with the exception of Rosenda A-344 - former member of the Noble Team), Jun-A266. In the books we discover that he managed to evacuate the station before it was destroyed. Another thing, it was Jun who convinced Buck to become a Spartan 4. p.s.: Sorry if have any problems with writing, English is not my first language.
I think the biggest takeaway with The Weapon’s origins reveal hits harder when you realize Cortana in Halo 4 was like “they’ll pair you with another AI. Maybe even another Cortana model if Halsey lets them. It won’t be me, you know that right?”
I don't know if you caught it, but in the beginning when chief gets the pilots gun, it has one bullet left. Its implied he was saving it to take himself out. Heavy stuff.
I still appreciate how they conveyed Chief's... strength? durability? here in the intro as he mostly doesn't flinch if not at all. I am glad Infinite came because it showed that 343i/Halo Studios clearly can, but I am sad and disappointed it never went fully there.
I think one of the reasons it also looks a little less cinematic like you mentioned is because all of the cutscenes were gameplay cutscenes/animations. You probably noticed it in the video but the camera constantly zooms in and out of the back of Chief's helmet which is often a transition from cutscene into gameplay, but it's seamless as it's all rendered in real time. This way of doing the cutscenes added to that "one-shot" feeling which I liked. From what I can recall only the first cutscene is the proper cutscene with much higher quality assets and rendering etc. Loved your video
Loved that you've covered Halo Infinite and as well as the rest. I personally think Infinite has one of the best cutscenes, other than Halo 2A being my favourite out of them all. Halo Infinite gives off an expansion feeling where you can tell its going to be big and it was with the open world, the boss fights and the banished itself being no joke especially when they don't fear the Master Chief. Those rings scattered on the halo ring holds ancient data dating back to the Precursors. Halo: Shadows Of Reach is a good read that ties into Halo Infinite from Halo 5. Zeta Halo lore, Offensive bias, maybe Mendicant Bias and the Forerunner council would be a good read to get some backstory around Halo Infinite.
Yes absolutely from the very first moment chief jumps into open space and crashes through the bodies of the aliens vs the delicacy and respect of him passing by all of the marines that have died you can feel the respect he has for all of them and humanity in general. The scene of him dropping to a knee and comforting the pilot who logically tells him how and when would chief ever be scared of anything or ever make a mistake? Then chief drops that line of just they’re all human and so is he. Like that’s what makes chief such a good character is this idea that he is not devoid of humanity and I really respect 343 for giving us the human element to what’s behind the helmet for chief. It wasn’t always perfect but they always treat chief with respect.
The thing I like the most about this is when Chief first leaves the pelican to go to the banished ship, the pistol had only one shot in it before he had to reload, which implies that the pilot had saved one shot all that time for you can probably assume what.
For the newer halo games the story bounces back and forth with the books so I agree it's hard to follow but the books are amazing. But I'd highly recommend Rubicon Protocol because it gives information for before this game
I've been excited to see you react to this. Some of the moments in the game really hit you in your feels and I really hope HaloStudios keeps this story line going. This is probably my favorite campaign after Halo 2. This ring feels really alien and alone which I really loved. The problem with Halo Infinite is how 343 handled it as a live service game. There were obvious issues behind the scenes at 343. I really hope they don't take that criticism and scrap this story line. I really love the idea of The Endless and I want more deeper lore in the gameplay. The music is probably my favorite OST that this franchise ever put out.
Best thing about this game is the addition of the grapple hook. You can not only use to reach higher areas but grab weapons, gernades & barrels from afar. You can also use to zip into an enemy & punch them. If you upgrade it, it will also stun enemies too.
In the 2nd scene where Chief meets the Pilot, this was part of the "Discover Hope" trailer that came out in 2019. They modified some of the voice lines. For example, when the pilot says "We need to run" Chief originally said "No, we need to fight" (which I thought was better). Also the entire calibration bit was absent in the original trailer.
There are a lot of complaints about this game, but it seems like most of them are relevantly levelled at how short the campaign was, and Atriox being introduced as the main antagonist, then being bait and switched for Escherum, which was really disappointing. Despite that, I still give this game a positive review, it's worth a run through, because so much is done well and the gameplay is really fun once you get used to swapping the gadgets. Also, this is a much more emotional story, like Halo 4, but somehow even more intimate and the 1 cut feel is really good too, it makes us feel like we are on the journey/mission with Master chief. Also I can't understate the music, it's really good and is filled with motifs from other events and games in the franchise, yet something new as well. I'm very interested to see what they do with the next one, (they have confirmed that the next Halo is already being worked on and I hope they keep some of the story threads in this one, or at least have some involvement of the endless, which could be a new enemy faction that you have to fight, along with the inclusion of the time travel element that they illuded to in this) since they canned the idea of story progression through DLCs and addons that they simply add to the this game. I really hope that Atriox is the main villain in the next one. (tbh I didn't dislike Escherum, but I actually found his Elite Spartan hunter more interesting, as well as the Harbinger) Also some of the weirdness with chief's first person arms is because of FoV settings of the person recording this, at least we don't get clipping. I also wish the editor had shown the introductions to the bosses, but not made them look easy with just cutting to the final hit. Some of the bosses in the game were actually challenging, especially on heroic or legendary difficulty. Ultimately, the only real negativity I have from this game is that I wish there was more, the story kinda just ends and they were doing so well. Also I think this takes place some time after halo 5, of course, but they take the approach of exploring what happened between games, and during the 6 months that Chief was floating in space after his loss to Atriox, through cutscenes and audio logs that you find when helping the surviving crew of the Infinity, which was destroyed by Atriox and his banished fleet. I can't help but wonder, watching this back, that this is the end of Master Chief's story, (Or getting there) since there is so much reminiscing and extended universe lore dumps which uses nostalgia to pluck at your heart strings. I think long time Halo fans likely loved this, since it feels a little like a purgatory love letter to the fans, whereas anyone entering the franchise here are not going to get any of that and will think it's a slow, short campaign with too much monologuing and an abrupt ending, with repetitive open world objectives; it's a totally different experience for those of us that have played and replayed the Halo games throughout our lives. Also, I think Cortana flipped back at the end because she lost everything and was humbled by Atriox and Halsey's plan. This forced to analyze and entertain introspective thought, and remember Ais think far faster than any human does. I think this helped her realize was she was doing all of this for and boil it down to 1 thing, her love for the John and so she used her last possible act to do everything she could to help the Chief, even if it was from the grave. She gave him the tools to stop the Banished and hamstrung them in the process. Also Atriox at the end has a big 'ole scar on the left side of his face, (More like aburn of some kind) I'm shocked I missed this when I played, especially since I replayed it a couple months back with coop. (They added coop after release, because it was apparently hard to make it work with the open world segments)
I agree, my only concern was the sides missions, Atriox pretty much absent form the game and, the fact we didnt know anything about the characters from H5.
I don't think they showed this but once you defeat Jega Rdomnai, the sangheili spartan killer, his body disappears so its very likely he's still out there
One small detail I love is how the pilot tells Chief that there's only one round in the pistol. It's subtle, but it really shows how hopeless the pilot felt, drifting in space thinking he'd never go home.
The reason why some times there is like a "Wide angle lens" from the Chief's POV is because the person playing this have their Field of View in High values. The game cinematics were made on the same engine so that is why some times you get those weird looking angles
12:56 my favorite part about that too, is seeing how careful he is with the dead humans, but you can see with covenant, he's fine tossing them, pushing them away, ect. you see it in halo 5 too, a grunt was on the console in the first blue team mission, and he just shoves it off. we see it also in halo CE, when Mendoza falls on chief before you meet the flood, he carefully puts him down. i like the consistency of him caring for the other humans, and not caring really at all for the dead covies.
A massive portion of Infinites story has been cut. There are some cut cutscenes on youtube that are quite interesting to see. Also, Agent Locke's helmet is on one of the brutes shoulders that you defeat in-game, and there are some dialogue in-game that mention Locke but it is uncertain he is KIA Great video!
I just noticed that the back of chief’s helmet lights up when his radio is going off. Specifically the port where he would put Cortana’s chip. It glows green when he’s talking to the Pilot, and blue when he’s talking to the Weapon.
If you were playing this game on xbox the controller would vibrate to the heartbeat of griffin as it slowly stopped beating as Master chief himself can hear it.
The ring in Halo Wars 2, is Installation 09. The replacement for Installation 08, which was destroyed at the end of Halo 3, which was the original replacement of Installation 04 that was destroyed in Combat Evolved.
i love halo infinites story so much, its a beautiful send off to the terrible set up of 4 and 5, im praying they continue it and dont just forget about it
The story of Infinite was such a refreshing change from 5. It was super buggy but I still loved it, and I’m so disappointed they seem to have just forgotten about the campaign.
There so much beautiful lore background in some scenes. Some of the spartans you find are in the book Rubicon Protocol written by Kelly Gay. They're given a badass story. Even Zeta Halo, Installation 07 has amazing history told in the Forerunner Saga. Even the book Halo Epitaph helps bridge the gap between Halo 4 - 6.
the passwords at 1:14.00 red flag was an operation that was meant to happen just before the fall of reach which didn't happen because the covenant attacked reach and 034, Samuel was his best friend spartan Samuel-034 which sacrificed himself in destroying one of the first covenant ships. the passwords are both his greatest failures which show the gravity of the situation when he has to use it to try to delete his AI.
It's crazy how much better the story beats hit when they're closer together in this format. Having hours of open world stuff in between really killed the emotional energy when I was playing it.
From what I can gather from this. After Cortana destroyed the brute's home world, atriox and the banished dealt a great deal of damage to Cortana's empire. Due to this power vacuum the banished took on the infinity and took the ring. Essentially allowing them full control of the ring. Then after seeing the cheif defeated she then realized that she was no match for the banished who essentially had a gun to the head of the whole universe she then desided that destroying the ring and herself would give Chief his best chance to save the universe once again. I think that this does make sense for Cortana to switch sides if this is the case. (Love the vid! Been looking forward to this one!)
Something I loved about Infinite was how all the Banished structures look like they were dropped in from orbit, there's the legs that deployed, the odd positioning, etc. Also, I had a ton of fun playing Infinite and rescuing Marines. The score was done by 3 people, including Gareth Coker, who did the music for Ark and Curtis Schweitzer, the guy who did the music for Starbound. Both of them are absolute legends.
Hey fella! I'll be sad not to see your name and display picture come up in future videos now we've finished halo. Love the brute architecture comment, very true! I'm excited to jump in on this game, to excited.
@@kaizammit Oh I'll be around still! I don't often know about the other games, which is why I've been watching your other videos. I'm eagerly waiting for your God Of War Pt 2 video! Loved the first one
the parallel of this between the weapon and cortana - offensive bias and mendicant bias is so beautiful to me😂 mendicant was regretful in halo 3 and cortana being remorseful here mendicant bias helped chief in halo 3, offensive bias in infinite
1:11:30 Yes. Because these are real-time in engine cutscenes on an open world map, models and textures jitter more and more the further away from the centerpoint of the map you are.
Ever since you started doing halo content i have been waiting for this, really glad you finally covered it and enjoyed it as much as I did, can't wait to see what you're going to cover next, keep up the great content❤
For as unstoppable and badass the Chief is, he always shows respect to soldiers and humanity especially. He's been fighting so long to protect humanity
Not everyone liked Infinite's story but as a year one fan of Halo I really did enjoy it. I thought it did a good job of rebooting things, but it really is just a beginning. It's how the studio runs with the new start they created that'll make all the difference.
The wobble at 1:11:03 is actually an error with slipspace the engine used to make the game that was built off of the original blam engine from all the previous games it happens when an asset is too far from the center of the map I'm pretty sure there's videos about it if you want to learn more
Jun was confirmed to be on that station that the AI Leonidas blew up, he had learned of the betrayal before hand though so there’s no telling if he and some IVs made it out before it blew.
The Halo ring at the end of Halo Wars 2 is Installation 09 "Ander's Ring" which is the replacement of the previous replacement ring of Installation 04. The ring in Halo Infinite is Installation 07 "Zeta Halo" also shown at the end of Halo 5 and was constructed from the Greater Ark making the ring larger than the ones built by the Lesser Ark.
1:50:00 that was atriox, the dialogue was from thousands of years prior. He’s either releasing or killing the endless (we honestly have no clue people just thought he was releasing them), theyre immune to the halo array and are related to the flood in some way. The offensive bias name mentioned is the smartest and strongest AI ever made, it was essentially the weapon (the ai chief has all game) to mendicant bias as cortana (the ai that brought you to the ark and talked to you in the terminals in halo 3). The silent auditorium is the execution grounds of the primordial, it was essentially the last uncorrupted remainder or the precursors (the race that made the forerunners). Its consciousness is now every single gravemind. They had to kill it by forcing time itself through it which is how chief time travels at the end. (In a recent book its revealed the flood are just the precursor’s second phase of life where after they create the life inside a galaxy they consume it for biomass, this lore doesnt really make much sense though as they seemed to be innocent until they were corrupted by the forerunners genocide of them)
There's a scene that was cut from the end when they're introducing themselves where they pick up a new UNSC signal and it's implied that it's the Spirit of Fire, or at least that's the common theory
The worst part of Halo Infinite was they claimed that the endless were somehow worse than the flood. Then refused to elaborate or justify how that was possible.
im gonna explain a lit of bit about the history and his inspiration. During the end of Halo 2 and the beginning of Halo 3 in the novel Halo Evolutions there is a chapter that narrates the torment and how the Gravemind corrupted Cortana with the logical plague and everything that happened in Halo 5 and Halo infinite is produced by a Cortana . corrupted by the Flood. The story is inspired by the Ancient War of the Forerunners and the Flood millions of years ago, the Forerunners took into custody a precursor/Gravemind and put an AI to guard it, study it and seek to extract information that Forerunner AI is Mendicant Bias, which As time went by, he was corrupted by the Primordial and turned against his creators, almost taking them to the ropes. To counteract and stop Mendicant Bias, the Forerunners created Offensive Bias, who It serves the same purpose as The Weapon, stopping an AI that was corrupted by the Primordial and became a threat to the entire universe and its creators.
Personally not the biggest fan of making Cortana a villain, but it is very cool how Cortana/Weapon mirrors Mendicant/Offensive Bias - history repeats itself. Which is also sort of a theme throughout the game. In the audio logs, Escharum talks about how the Halo rings, the universe, etc. is all cyclical, repeating itself, which could also be a tease to the time manipulation powers The Endless appear to have
I loved this campaign and most people do as well. people are just upset because there was no DLC but tbh they never said there would be any. Also loved the video, really liked your analysis on the cinematography, lighting, posing. You got my Sub!
You know after watching the cinematics together 343 really did an outstanding job with the cinematography, music, ambience etc. Even the core story was about as good as it could be after they derailed it in Halo 5. Just wish the gameplay and plans to expand on the story in campaign add ons would’ve matched it.
I absolutely love almost all of the directions they took with this instalment. The story really hits hard for me. It was a proper Halo game. The only thing that I hate about the whole Halo IP is that to fully understand the whole story is to read the books and comics. But it has made me read more tho lol
Don’t know if anyone has commented this already but in case no one has. One of the enemy mini bosses in the game, you can see spartan locke’s helmet on his shoulder armour like a trophy sorta implies Locke is dead. Love your reactions as always! Still waitin for more Batman Arkham 😬
A new batman is on the cards soon. The Spartan Locke helmet is a cool touch. No way he's dead though. They pushed that character way to hard to bump off like that.
If the ability of time is introduced, you know there will be people who will want to use it as a 'canon' method of resovling the problems in the universe by simply, going back. And preventing cortana turning 'evil' etc.
also the ending with medicant bias is like one of the greatest cliffhangers Halo could have done, i am just really worried it wont be in the next game now

Wow thank you for the insight, didn't catch that after several playthroughs!
A detail I love is the way the monitors in this game have that “pulse” VFX when they talk that Guilty Spark in Halo 1 had or the male Monitor who says “oh hello” as his greeting… one of Guilty Spark’s nasty habits
Yeah, that is cool.
yo i just saw your art diretion video lol
I feel like CTN-0453-0 being in the scene with Fernando and Chief lowered the impact a bit.

I have always loved the detail of the pilot struggling to open the pelican cockpit doors and then Chief easily opens it with one hand later. Such a great detail I feel a lot of people miss.
Devil in the detail fella!
I really like how you picked up immediately on how delicate with the dead Marines and Spartans. Chief is more than just a run and gun tank.
All that cool lore behind zeta halo and they incorporated basically none of it into the game or its main story.
Not to mention that Chakas, an ancient human, became Guilty Spark on this ring in order to help it survive when it had to pass around a moon.
@@acnash27 Well the Silent Auditorium was included at least. It’s where Mendicant Bias stood trial over his betrayal of the Forerunners.
the little moment of chief and the pilot together on their knees is probably the best part of this entire campaign.
“how have you ever failed chief”
To the one who the UNSC only tells stories of his victories, not the constant people who he’s lost and missions he couldn’t finish, especially with loosing Cortana
“We all fail, we all make mistakes. Its what makes us human”
John 117 is almost known for being everything but a human, to both his species and others. So to him wanting to express that he is still a human is such a good and deep detail that a pretty decent amount of people know but still cool regardless.
i like the weapon, its the best way to reintroduce cortana without reintroducing cortana
the trio is perfect
Protect Baby Cortana
You can really see that later on with the final shot of Cortana and Chief together. Their little baby which will learn from their past mistakes.
Wait really? It wasn't cuz she wanted to save the galaxy? See now that's love
As a Halo fan since day one, I loved Halo Infinite’s story and the new characters they introduced like the blade master, the weapon, and the pilot.
What happened in Halo Infinite really?
In the book, Halo: Shadows of Reach, the Chief and Blue Team return to Reach a bit after the end of Halo 5 when the Infinity is in the run from Cortana. They head into an ONI base on Reach to recover Halsey's cloned brains, which was then used to create the Weapon.
I'll have to read that book.
answering your final questions.
Lasky and Palmer, the last thing we know about them is through some collectible audios in the game just before Infinity fell. After that, I don't know what else, maybe they are in the ring.
Regarding the Halo 4 Spartan Ops characters, they were not mentioned again
Locke's whereabouts are unknown, it is only known that a Brute Boss that we defeated in the game has his helmet as a decoration but it is unknown if he is dead or alive.
As for Blue Team, before leaving for Zeta Halo, Blue Team was assigned a different mission away from Zeta Halo.
His reactions are the most "Halo Fan" reactions I've ever seen! I absolutely love it!
I have no idea what I'm supposed to look like but I get it 😂
@@kaizammit , I mean, it is amazing seeing how you get so excited, how you totally embrace and enjoy that "Halo essence", I'm enjoying every second of this video, and you, sir, just gained a new sub!
Funny thing in The Fall of Reach book...Cortana was already on Pillar of Autumn when the covies attacked Reach.
@@andylastname566 I had looked this up a while ago, so I assume this is still the case, unless a retcon happened, but both the story of the book and the game are true, Cortana had split herself, with the larger of her core being on the Autumn, with a smaller part with Halsey and the data she had.
@CringeKing103 interesting.
@@andylastname566halo reach cortana was a fragment that halsey was using, the original one was on the ship

@@kaizammit In fairness, I think this detail comes across more clearly with the full gameplay experience rather than just through the cutscenes.
And they're incapable of actually finishing a story
Halo infinite its the only game of 343 that for the first time it doesn’t need a lot of books compared to halo 4 and halo 5
For infinite you just needed Rubicon Protocole and shadows of reach
Well, this is cause at first by the critics they receive from the players... so to finish the story they start with each games but which was dislike, they used book to cover that and follow up with something new with the new game...
Halo Epitaph also fills a small gap
@XD-zg1cr you seem to have mixed up halo 4 and infinite in your comment friend
That "insert chip" moment at the start with New-tana is probably my favorite Halo moment ever.
Many other SPartan Teams were aboard the Infinity but whether or not Majestic and Crimson's teams were assigned is left unknown (to me anyway)
There was a cut dialog or ending I heard that depicts Fernando receiving a spotty transmission from the UNSC Spirit of Fire from his Pelican radio, which would have tied Halo Wars and Halo Infinite together in this small but important moment. Since this was cut, I'm afraid the info isn't clear and it's unknown if this was officially written into the story, but just imagine that? Chief's small band of UNSC members he managed to rescue on the Halo meeting up with the long lost crew of the Spirit of Fire.
Love that!
The reason his arm looks weird is because the player has turned the field of view all the way up so it looks very zoomed out.
“Missions change, they always do” makes my eyes tear up everytime man. So many memories of campaign missions with friends and family in those 5 words
I didn't catch that no, wow.
That's cool!
Oh I’ve been waiting for this! I absolutely loved how you are now coming full circle with all the halo’s… sending it out with a bang 😮💨🔥
Thank you for coming with me!
(tbh I didn't dislike Escherum, but I actually found his Elite Spartan hunter more interesting, as well as the Harbinger)
Also some of the weirdness with chief's first person arms is because of FoV settings of the person recording this, at least we don't get clipping.
Another valid complaint was the lack of diverse biomes. You had Washington state forestry and some forerunner stuff, that's about it.
@@benetnasch2096 true
Also, Agent Locke's helmet is on one of the brutes shoulders that you defeat in-game, and there are some dialogue in-game that mention Locke but it is uncertain he is KIA
Great video!
51:40 one of the best sequences Halo has to date. I felt like a kid playing halo 3 again.
I love the detail of the battery slowly dying on the recording of the pilot's family
Dont know how he didnt comment on the screen shake when chief takes a knee!
Tomorrow you'll be pleased to hear. Enjoy it!
the parallel of this between the weapon and cortana - offensive bias and mendicant bias is so beautiful to me😂 mendicant was regretful in halo 3 and cortana being remorseful here mendicant bias helped chief in halo 3, offensive bias in infinite
1:11:30 Yes. Because these are real-time in engine cutscenes on an open world map, models and textures jitter more and more the further away from the centerpoint of the map you are.
An absolutely tremendous journey and iirc the first franchise whose video I saw on your channel. Great video once again.
Hey Kai, just wanted to say I love the work and insights. I'm a film student majoring in animation and the perspective is invaluable
That's awesome to hear!! Thank you for your time and I hope it's a good trade, you time for some entertainment and education/tips. ✌🏻
@kaizammit its always a good trade man. The only bad information is information you don't have.
Ever since you started doing halo content i have been waiting for this, really glad you finally covered it and enjoyed it as much as I did, can't wait to see what you're going to cover next, keep up the great content❤
Thank you Alex! I do wonder.... Another franchise on the Xbox, is exclusive still coming this month. Starting from the beginning. Oh boy.
I just wanna say that your advertisement for the desk and chair is extremely well made i was entertained just by that
For as unstoppable and badass the Chief is, he always shows respect to soldiers and humanity especially. He's been fighting so long to protect humanity
At 1:31:00, someone took a LOT of time making that bridge, and was super proud of it. Of course they had to show it
Not everyone liked Infinite's story but as a year one fan of Halo I really did enjoy it. I thought it did a good job of rebooting things, but it really is just a beginning. It's how the studio runs with the new start they created that'll make all the difference.
The wobble at 1:11:03 is actually an error with slipspace the engine used to make the game that was built off of the original blam engine from all the previous games it happens when an asset is too far from the center of the map I'm pretty sure there's videos about it if you want to learn more
Adore your vibe and your content as always, Kai
Jun was confirmed to be on that station that the AI Leonidas blew up, he had learned of the betrayal before hand though so there’s no telling if he and some IVs made it out before it blew.
Been waiting for this one!
8:01 You can see the charge dying, it goes from green, to yellow, to red. Also note, his pistol had ONE bullet left.
The guy who voices the main brute bad guy (don’t know how to spell his name) also voices revenant in Apex legends
Also throughout the campaign/gameplay you find UNSC audio logs that explain some backstory on the UNSC Infinity during after Halo 5
In the audio logs, Escharum talks about how the Halo rings, the universe, etc. is all cyclical, repeating itself, which could also be a tease to the time manipulation powers The Endless appear to have
I wish they'd done more with Cortana and the Weapon interacting in game. It would have been so much more interesting than what we got.
Oh boy I've been waiting for this one...
And preventing cortana turning 'evil' etc.
also the ending with medicant bias is like one of the greatest cliffhangers Halo could have done, i am just really worried it wont be in the next game now
Im so glad you're doing Halo Infinite. Unfortunately the game is very underrated due to what happened to the halo community.
Nothing happened to the community, play this game in multiplayer vs older halo games you'll know why.
Oh really, I loved it fella! Granted I've not played it but from this, I'm in love.
