The part where you play as the Joker is actually part of the game not DLC. Is explaining one of the most know Joker Origin story. He was a bad comedian that got involve with the mob and had to use the Red Hood helmet to commit a crime but he was not really capable of it, Batman try to stop the crime but made the mistake of dumping Joker into the chemical plant and that how the story of Joker started in one of the old comics.

the reason for cutscenes ending for players to make an input just for the inpout to start the cutscene again is so that players are active and feel like they are apart of the story, like when batman got over copperhead's poison and it cuts to gameplay so the player can get the last hit in, even if it makes the hit a cutscene. if the player had no input it would just be a glorified movie and gamers don't by games to just watch cutscenes (unless it's a hideo kojima game but that's the exception not the rule)

If you want to watch the rest, the chronological order is, this game. Arkham Asylum, Arkham City then Arkham Knight. Just so you know in advance. Also this game was actually the 3rd in the series. It came out in-between City and Knight.
Also the camera is high during most of the fights because you're usually fighting multiple people at a time and the developers wanted you to be able to actually SEE who is hitting you.
@@scottmemelord6130 yeah but this is a "prequel" idk how canon in arkham lore... It bothers me that in none of the playthrough videos they haven't disabled 'counter alerts' and 'silly effects' (like stars and random vfx during gameplay)
@@TheRealBillix It's canon. No idea why this is debated, the original Rocksteady devs have never said it isn't canon. I think people just don't want to like it because it wasn't made by Rocksteady. Honestly people rail on Origins all the time and I have no idea why when it's honestly pretty good.
Kevin Conroy was working on Arkham Knight alongside Mark Hamill. Another Studio was working this while Rocksteady developed Knight. He said it somewhere at a con why he wasn't in this game if i'm correct. The characters are younger so it kinda makes sense anyways and Batman being voiced by my fav VO, Roger Craig Smith! This game is highly underrated. 😎🤘🏻
Yeah, WB Games Montreal knocked it out of the park with origins. But, they actually developed arkham city armoured edition for the wii u before they did anything with origins
Early Batman is a very angry and depressed human being. He's pure "vengeance" here. Later, he becomes more of a hopeful figure too, being someone the police can work with and who regular people see as a hero. When he becomes more calm and sure of himself, that is when he truly becomes a force of nature in Gotham. The anger is great, but a calm Batman that knows he's already won each encounter he gets into, love it. Also, I agree that they take it way too seriously when people think batman killed someone. Why would Gordon (Who just killed 2 Joker henchmen) give a shit if batman DID kill Bane, when he did it to save him and Warden Joseph?? They did that in the Dark Knight Returns comic/animated movie too. Where batman finally kills Joker after Joker kills like 300 people in 2 days. And the media and police are like "OMG He's a killer, he killed someone! He must be arrested now!" Like, I agree that normally Batman shouldn't kill and should stick to his gimmick and not want to cross that line. But why in the world would anyone care if he did kill these terrorists, rapists, murderers, and hired assassins?
The same reason Batman himself chooses not to kill. Once Batman kills, he becomes judge, jury and executioner. He becomes less resistant to killing, meaning he could go on to kill more. He becomes a rogue element (moreso than he is now).
@@Xeno_Solarusbruh ur explaining it way too complex if Batman crosses that killing line then he’ll jus keep killing that’s it, its more for selfish reasons then anything else he won’t kill bc he knows if he does he won’t stop n that’s when it kinda becomes a problem.
2:40:25 In regards to "They should have left that as a cutscene ... pulled me out of it, the quick time event", dont forget that your watching a video of someone playing it. In contrast to being the person playing it, when playing it yourself, the quick time event, similar to the 'on rails' fight against deathstroke you had in the beginning, being the person driving the action makes a big difference. Doing it yourself, when the character wants to punch the enemies, or when your trying to revive your friend (alfred) it makes it more immersive in my opinion, rather than just leaving it as a cutscene. At the end of the day, in my eye, a single player game is just an interactive movie. Taking that interactive element away at these key moments can hurt the immersion more than help it.
This was a very good game. It was just once the "fans" saw it was made by a different studio, different voice cast, different look from the other games. They completely hated it. You know people, if it's different they can't handle it. If I remember right once it came out the haters became silent, but the damage was done. Not for me, I bought the big collector edition on day one.😁
@@kaizammitIt had some baggage when it was announced. The aforementioned VA and studio stuff, plus it was the 3rd installment in the series, but was a prequel. It felt like it risked being a cash grab, but aside from a lingerjng impression of some rough edges, I'd say it worked out well. Still probably the weakest of the 4 games in the series though.
Well, arkham origins got a lot of mixed reviews back then because of how the map was too similar to arkham city's and how the joker was in the game as the main villain instead of black mask. The map thing wasn't WB montreal's fault, though, because rocksteady let them take the lead on the game while they worked on arkham knight and they didn't want to make too much changes or deal any disrespect towards rocksteady's games.
The opening cinematic for this game was TOP TIER for real. I would love a reaction for the other Arkham games. RIP Kevin Conroy, you are sorely missed.
7:53- That would be the late Kevin Conroy, but he didn't do Batman: Arkham Origins as the time period is years before Arkham Asylum even occurs. Roger Craig Smith, - best known for his roles as Sonic the Hedgehog and the best assassin of Assassin's Creed, Ezio Auditore da Firenze -, is the voice of a much younger Batman, though he also did Batman: Ninja and is to reprise his role as the Dark Knight for the upcoming Batman Arkham game.
Sadly Deadshot and Lady Shiva were side quest fights, which is why they appeared on the TV’s in the meeting. In terms of DLC, there’s a fun Mister Freeze one that’s pretty cool. Arkham Origins can be played on Xbox, PS3, 360, and PC. Btw if you want some amazing cinematic game experiences, look up Alan Wake, Quantum Break, Control, and Alan Wake 2. You won’t regret it.
Bane is actually incredibly intelligent, in that very early cutscene going over the assassins it shows his IQ, I didn’t look at it but I believe it’s like 170 or so Which is how he figured out Batman
Okay...that was epic. The other Arkham games when?? 😂 Perfect timing too, I recently found some small model kits of Arkham Knight style Batman and other characters from that game. I've never much considered that games use the same or similar methods as films to make them feel like an actual story. Thanks for doing this breakdown! 3 hours is no small feat!
Hi Kai just wanted to say that might be your magum opus so far- sort of seeing a whole game through and giving details that go beyond the cutscenes and extend into the gameplay. Granted you've done that before a lot, but this was a video where the mix between custcenes, gameplay and storytelling is blended really well but also easy to seperate into different pieces. De-constructing the lighting and how the camera moves from gameplay to the story and so forth, really great analysis! I also want to say i'm so glad you liked this entry, it's not the first game made in the series- it's a prequel to the series in fact. So it suffers from trying to be different but also trying to feel recognisable, it was made on a lower budget by a different developer and it serves as a stop gap between the penultimate and last entry, so it's here to keep that vested interest. Now i'm a sucker for underdogs and I went into Arkham Origins not knowing it wasn't a traditional entry into the series and I loved it, the feeling of establishing the characters and the christmas setting. It was able to set up its own stakes and take more risks by not being part of the 'Arkham trilogy' so in turn it had fun with the creative directon and took gambles with the story and gameplay- some elements work and some don't but it feels distinctive among the Arkham games and it stands out because of that. A great story that finds the heartstrings to set up some emotional investment ready for the final installment in the Arkham series.
When you think about it, this game has a very similar way of treating Batman as Matt Reeves' version. Both year 2, young and focused on the idea of inflicting vengeance, not as preoccupied with their lives as Bruce Wayne, all their time is focused on being Batman to the point where it's an obsession. Alfred gets almost killed in both as well. Both have Riddler and penguin in important roles. And ofc the "becoming hope" arc that they both have.
Late comment, but after many playthroughs of this game, I only barely realized while watching this video that Batman tells Bane at the end of their first fight “Looks like you just ran out of time.” Which is the exact line caught on camera that he says to the reporter as Bruce Wayne. So I think that’s supposed to be the moment that Bane realizes his identity.
Fun fact: when Bane says “You have *one* minute” when talking to Joker. If you count the rest of the cutscene and the quick time event where you punch the Joker right after. It’s precisely one minute before Bane shows up again and absolutely disrespects Batman.
Not sure if anyone else has recommended this yet, but if you plan on checking out the other Arkham games, there are two DLC stories here as well. One set during Bruce's training before becoming Batman, and the other being one set after this story during New Years Eve.
You definitely need to do the other Arkham games. They are works of art in more ways than one. Use Batman Arkham Videos for the gameplay since he makes sure to get all of the details.
24:39 There is actually a DLC for this game called Initiation where you can play as a ninja Bruce Wayne training to become Batman 😂. There aren’t any cutscenes though, so don’t worry, you didn’t miss out on anything. It’s just some Challenge Maps that are pretty fun to play since you have a limited arsenal of gadgets, so you’ll have to plan more.
Now watch Arkham asylum, then Arkham city, then Arkham Knight! Best comic book adaptation I’ve ever seen! I truly can’t wait for you to see Mark Hamils voice acting as joker in the next game! P.S I love your channel and all your insight into cinematography has been incredibly useful to me!
I know I’m late but im so happy the Batman series is being covered. These games set the premise for Superhero games and world building. There’s so many “Easter eggs” in these open world games that paint every corner of the DC universe and all that surround Batman. I know all won’t be covered but take special note of how the mind of Batman changes as time goes on. Remember! Batman with Prep time Beats anything! Also, the DC animated movies are also worthy of praise.
Just watched the full video and needless to say it was perfect. it was awesome you mentioned the names of the camera angles and certain aspects that make the game feel as special as it is. Looking forward for your review of the other Batman Arkham games since they're just as, if not, more visually fantastic than this one haha
Each Arkham game takes place over the course of one night. But you might need a day or two between covering to recover. You should also give them a shot and play them as well. Maybe on stream?
7:52 it’s not actually, the original voice actor, Kevin Conroy (rip) is the voice actor for Batman in the Rocksteady trilogy, Mark Hamill being the voice actor for the joker in the rocksteady trilogy. Kevin Conroy is the va in the animated shows Ect… as this game Arkham origins was made by a different studio. I definitely recommend covering the other games, the original rocksteady trilogy is as follows; Batman Arkham Asylum (released on PS3/2009) Batman Arkham City (released on PS3/2011) Batman Arkham knight (released on PS4/2015)
Mark Hamil did do the voice for the joker in the Batman Arkham series, I don't believe he did all of them but a lot of them, its been awhile since I played the games. @KAI ZAMMIT
He did all the Arkham games except this one, same with Kevin Conroy voicing batman. Mark Hamil famously loved working with Kevin Conroy and always said he's the only Batman to his Joker.
I believe when bane rejected the jokers plan at around 1:42:56 and insisted on waiting, you can see for a few seconds how the joker was scared of bane. The camera angle that was above and behind bane feels like it is meant to make you feel the joker being intimidated. The disaster that is the suicide squad game was made in this game-universe. Did batman and Kevin Conroy dirty.
You defeat dead shot and shiva in side missions, just while roaming the city you meet them. Seeing as you loved the ‘worst’ Batman Arkham game I’m excited for your reaction to the better ones 👍
@@kaizammit the wider community reckons this is comfortably bottom or second from. You will most likely agree after seeing Arkham city and Arkham knight 😁
@@GumCuardian I personally enjoyed Origins as much as City. City has a lot of good qualities, but so do the rest of the games. Asylum is my favorite in overall tone (it's the darkest, and I think DC is at its best when it's dark), but Origins wins against the others on cinematography and sound design (it's the most movie-like / cinematic). I loved Arkham City when growing up, but still, I don't personally understand the overwhelming hype Arkham City gets. The narrative and overall concept is absolutely banger (It's the most worldly of the Arkham games), but I didn't feel like it pushed the other games out of the water in any way. It's not necessarily even my favorite. To me, I feel like each game has its own appeal and niche: Asylum: Dark atmosphere, Grittiness, nostalgia bonus City: Overarching Narrative, general worldbuilding, most DC-like, nostalgia bonus Origins: Tightest experience, Best cinematography and sound design Knight: Best gameplay / mechanics, most well rounded
Great vid once again! My only question would be to when are we getting to see you live doing the all playthrough yourself as you tell us about the cinematography and storytelling?
Play throughs are hard for me at the moment as I don't have time to actually play. The main reason I'm hesitant is when I play a game, my brain can't talk about filmmaking. I'm simply enjoying what I'm doing and thinking about controlling the character etc. I've tried it before and I'm left apologising if there isn't enough filmmaking talk within the video. I'll keep thinking about it though.
@kaizammit most video game content creators just play with 0 insights. Just getting those during cinematics for instance and getting live engagement would be great. Keep it up mate, the channel is awesome, cinema and video game enjoyers love you.

Bit late on this one, but when I think of Cinematic I think of The Metal Gear Solid series. I look forward to more Arkham series cinematic reactions and breakdowns!
I really hope you see the cutscenes to the rest of the Batman Arkham games (Arkham Asylum, Arkham City, and Arkham Knight). There are really cool moments in those games and for a lot of young adults have been incredibly memorable. I hope you take the time to view them. Thanks for reading.
I believe the reason people (myself included) didn't like this game at the time was because it wasn't Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill voicing Batman and the Joker. It's still a fun game.
There are several characters that the side missions introduced or wrapped up their story: Anarky Bird (Bane's right hand man) Black Mask Deadshot The Mad Hatter Penguin Shiva and of course Enigma/Riddler
the Electrocutioner "fight" went the same way as the Mysterio fight in Spiderman 2 on the PS2. Massive build up, giant health bar, goes down with one attack.
Arkham Origins Batman was voiced by Roger Craig Smith it was controversial at the time of launch as Kevin Conroy is the main voice of batman but Roger smashed the role.
To explain the joker story more There is a comic where he was a normal man with a wife. She was pregnant and they needed Money, so Joker made a deal with criminals that he would help them break into Ace chemicals (he workded there once). But the day before they would sgart it he got the massage that his wife died due a electric shock from their toaster, but he wasnt able to get out of the deal so he did it and for his disguise they gave him the ,,Red Hood,, but not jason todd here more the eadly version. He hardly saw anything and then they got caught by Batman. Batman chased the red hood to a dead end and because he had a lack of vision joker fell into the acid and that made him mantaly more broken and his skin white, hair green and lips red
You should definitely do the same with the other Arkham games. I recommend following the supposed continuity, although there are inconsistencies from this game to Asylum.
I recommend watching and/or playing the others. I especially recommend City and Knight. I prefer Knight personally, but City is objectively good, I just have certain things regarding memory and how I feel and/or felt about things I haven't returned to in awhile, and I only replay Knight. Mainly because of the Red Hood DLC, which I recommend playing and/or watching, but understand it's pretty short. (Edit): If every sexist were to go missing, there wouldn't be a second Holocaust underway.
yes you should try the others. this game is actually the 3rd in the franchise but obviously takes place at the beginning. the next should be "Arkham Asylum" then "Arkham City" but make sure you do the "Return to Arkham" versions as they are remasters of the originals then you should do "Arkham Knight" and if you want you should cover the DLC's as they have more cutscenes and different perspectives from different characters i.e. Harley Quinn, Robin etc. much love from Canada ❤️
This one has the best boss fights but I like the story in the other 3 better....Deadshot and Shiva were more like side missions that didn't really affect the main story
I would suggest the Batman: Arkham City - Hugo Strange Trailer ( ruclips.net/video/muCtJsy-d9w/видео.html ) & the Batman: Arkham Knight Announce Trailer - "Father to Son" ( ruclips.net/video/wsf78BS9VE0/видео.html ). Given the quality that is put into these trailers, I still say we could get a great full CGI film for Batman and others like Superman. It would help free up some of the limitations that come with real film making. And since for a Superman film, there will a sizable amount of CGI anyway, it just be better to make the whole film that way.
This game released between Arkham City and Arkham Knight, and is the first game in the timeline. It got some fierce criticism on release and is still considered the worst in the series. I think a big part of it was that Alfred’s fake death and Bane discovering Bruce’s identity fell flat because we already knew those things would be undone by the end, so there was no tension. Further, due to events you’ll find out about in Arkham City, people were wanting Arkham Origins to have a character other than Joker be the villain, so Black Mask actually being Joker was disappointing for a lot of people.
As a new gamer I bought Batman: Arkham Knight because I thought the gameplay looked the best of the Batman games but these cutscenes are making change my mind.
@@kaizammit Off topic but I'd love to see you watch Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. I haven't started it yet but I know that about the first hour of cutscenes/gameplay is wild.
3:04:03 - Suicide Squad from 2016 was dogshit, but The Suicide Squad from 2021 was an absolute masterpiece. I can definitely recommend that movie; it’s very stylistic.
Just to ease your mind the voice of batman is not Kevin Conroy this might say origins but it's not the first arkham asylum is the first But this voice is roger craig smith who's a talented voice actor his big roles are ezio from assassin's creed and sonic the hedgehog But for Kevin Conroy he voiced in arkham asylum arkham city and arkham knight
I really enjoyed going through that story again, I forgot how good it was, and many consider it to be the weakest in the entire arkham series. (They get better from here) Also there are only some assassins that are required to finish the game, some are side quests. This whole thing felt like an entire story from the Animated Series, or at least it reminded me of when I watched them religiously as a kid.
Just a heads up I think Arkham origins has the best story so the rest of the games might seem a bit underwhelming but the gameplay in Arkham knight is unbelievable
Arkham origins is by a different studio and the third arkham game by release date (2013). Arkham asylum is by rocksteady and was released 2009 and it might look dated, so I'm curious how his first impression will be. Arkham city was released 2011 and went open world, I don't want to reveal more though. Both asylum and city got new versions on PS4 and Xbox one in 2016, but those are, despite some graphical / tech improvements, worse than their originals - in my opinion. So I'd suggest footage of the respective original versions from 2009 and 2011. Arkham knight was released in 2015 and is still to this date a graphical showpiece. Batman and Joker are voiced by different actors in origins compared to the remaining 3. Asylum, city and knight are voiced by Mark Hamill and Kevin Conroy (rest in peace).
Nice vid btw if youre going to do a full series on this the order is Batman arkham origins Batman arkham shadows Batman arkham asylum Batman arkham city Batman arkham knight

@@TheRealBillixit’s 100% cannon. Origins is directly mentioned by other characters
@@TheRealBillix cause it's not a big deal
Kevin Conroy was working on Arkham Knight alongside Mark Hamill. Another Studio was working this while Rocksteady developed Knight. He said it somewhere at a con why he wasn't in this game if i'm correct. The characters are younger so it kinda makes sense anyways and Batman being voiced by my fav VO, Roger Craig Smith! This game is highly underrated. 😎🤘🏻
And for Joker I believe they got Troy Baker?
@@scottmemelord6130 yes
He must be arrested now!"
Like, I agree that normally Batman shouldn't kill and should stick to his gimmick and not want to cross that line.
Yeah I'm glad he's doing arkham games!
I'm glad he's doing Arkham games too! 🔥💪🏻
They hated it!? That's crazy, I loved this!
I will be covering all the Batman Arkham games so stay tuned! I hope you return.
I'ts actually great that you started with this because chronologically it's first game among the other 4.
Noted
Bane is actually incredibly intelligent, in that very early cutscene going over the assassins it shows his IQ, I didn’t look at it but I believe it’s like 170 or so
Which is how he figured out Batman
any time you didn't like something it was the persons gameplay and camerawork with a controller
Yeah, these videos are getting longer nowadays haha. The model kits sound interesting!
I'm glad you enjoyed the video . I'm very excited to cover the other games now, absolutely loved this entry.
YEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSS you finally did it! Best Batman game I've played
No way!!
Your videos give me so much insight on video making. It's so interesting.
That sounds amazing! You've basically sold me the game. You're a true salesperson!!
@@kaizammit Always happy to get more people into the Arkham games haha!
Since middle school i would replay this the week of Christmas to get in the mood
Would love to see you react to the whole Arkham series, it's amazing!
Thanks for doing what you do much love mate
Thank you for being apart of the community ! I appreciate it.
The Batman in this game is voice by Roger Craig Smith, the voice of Sonic the hedgehog the other games Asylum, city, and, knight was Kevin Conroy
7:52 it’s not actually, the original voice actor, Kevin Conroy (rip) is the voice actor for Batman in the Rocksteady trilogy, Mark Hamill being the voice actor for the joker in the rocksteady trilogy. Kevin Conroy is the va in the animated shows Ect… as this game Arkham origins was made by a different studio. I definitely recommend covering the other games, the original rocksteady trilogy is as follows;
Batman Arkham Asylum (released on PS3/2009)
Batman Arkham City (released on PS3/2011)
Batman Arkham knight (released on PS4/2015)
Awesome Kai! I was hoping at some point you'd cover this! Especially that teaser trailer!
Thank you! Been waiting for you to watch this, keep up the great content👍
Awesome vid. you will definitely love the others in the franchise. Look forward to seeing you cover them
The other games are better games. But cinematically, you don’t beat origins. It’s a Perfect Adaptation of Batman.
Origins is better than Knight. Knight is awfully overrated since most people started with that one.
There’s dialogue during the credits that leads into Arkham asylum that wasn’t included
There are also Extortion files (audio logs) that give insight into various characters and lore
Next you gotta react to the Arkham Asylum Cinematics
You defeat dead shot and shiva in side missions, just while roaming the city you meet them. Seeing as you loved the ‘worst’ Batman Arkham game I’m excited for your reaction to the better ones 👍
This is the worst!?!
To me, I feel like each game has its own appeal and niche:
Asylum: Dark atmosphere, Grittiness, nostalgia bonus
City: Overarching Narrative, general worldbuilding, most DC-like, nostalgia bonus
Origins: Tightest experience, Best cinematography and sound design
Knight: Best gameplay / mechanics, most well rounded

This is probably the best cinematic Batman game. Arkham Knight is a close second.
I'm looking forward to covering the others.
I believe the reason people (myself included) didn't like this game at the time was because it wasn't Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill voicing Batman and the Joker. It's still a fun game.
There are several characters that the side missions introduced or wrapped up their story:
Anarky
Bird (Bane's right hand man)
Black Mask
Deadshot
The Mad Hatter
Penguin
Shiva
and of course Enigma/Riddler
So I've got some content for me to play then, sweet!!

To explain the joker story more
There is a comic where he was a normal man with a wife.
I Love this Game!! Great Work!
You should definitely do the same with the other Arkham games. I recommend following the supposed continuity, although there are inconsistencies from this game to Asylum.
Next batman game coming soon!
@@kaizammit Cool, dude. Hoping and waiting for it.
There all this good. Next is asylum, then city, then arkham knight.
The girl with the red hair is Barbara Gordon. She eventually becomes Batgirl
By the way, the director of the promotional video for this game went on to direct the first Deadpool movie.
No way, that makes total sense!
I'm looking forward to seeing the others and comparing the differences when it comes to creative/cinematography flair.
@@kaizammit Off topic but I'd love to see you watch Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. I haven't started it yet but I know that about the first hour of cutscenes/gameplay is wild.

Just to ease your mind the voice of batman is not Kevin Conroy this might say origins but it's not the first arkham asylum is the first
But this voice is roger craig smith who's a talented voice actor his big roles are ezio from assassin's creed and sonic the hedgehog
But for Kevin Conroy he voiced in arkham asylum arkham city and arkham knight
I thought this VO Artist was fantastic!
I missed these games so much the only thing I didn't like was they didn't get Kevin Conroy as the voice
Just a heads up I think Arkham origins has the best story so the rest of the games might seem a bit underwhelming but the gameplay in Arkham knight is unbelievable
React to all of the Arkham game trailers!!!
You should watch the devil may crys series cutscenes for vergil and dantes rivalry alone
Nice vid btw if youre going to do a full series on this the order is
Batman arkham origins
Batman arkham shadows
Batman arkham asylum
Batman arkham city
Batman arkham knight
