The super-long trailer was made to show off the huge Importal Empires campaign map's features, where all the factions you've seen are on the entire map. Ingame it is in fact really huge, you start on a specific location of the map depending on which faction/faction leader you're playing as, so it's interesting to see (for people who are already in the know) where each leader/faction will start. It's more like an overview video than a pure marketing trailer imo.
Yeah, that trailer is for people who are already very bought in because it's showing where basically everyone you already own is going to start and showing off the big world map instead of actually selling anything.
@@kaizammit This game conditions you to become immune to eyestrain. Battles are so fast paced that blinking at the wrong moment, while your opponent is launching a spell that you miss, will mean a loss.
I love your reaction to the vampire coast! I Had execatly the same reaction when I first saw that. "Are those pirates?" "Are those Vampires!" "Those are crabs!" :')
I'm impressed that you picked up on that quality drop in some of the Warhammer III trailers! Around that time the parent company of Creative Assembly, SEGA made a massive financial bet on a Battle Royale game akin to Fortnite. The development of that game was an unmitigated disaster that cost the studio upwards of $100 million in losses and led to severe financial strain on the budgets and development of all of their subsidiary studios. Unfortunately that really seems to show for a period in those Warhammer III trailers despite the game and gameplay remaining relatively strong. Appreciate the insight you give to these, been following your channel since you covered the Bungie Halo cinematics!
it was not similar to fortnite it was however similar to say overwatch for example no idea why CA thought it was a good idea to enter that market lol. it was also not sega making a financial bet on it it was CA making the bet but it got canned along with alot of CA staff getting cut cause CA could not pull it off.
First of all this guy has done his research and knew a lot in advance, don't be mistaken. Ironically when he called redemption, was when they were struggling the most (shadows of change). I personally think the chaos trailers from warhammer 3 were some of the best ones and not at all worse. Cathay and Kislev centered trailers rightfully were bad, but I blame that more on the poor execution of those factions. Champions of chaos combined was really good and would've closed the gap of lackluster content, but it's not included.
@@berendvanbeerschot1472 To be fair, the SoC trailer was decent, but the actual DLC didn't live up to it - heck, the DLC heavily foreshadows a direct conflict between the Changeling and the other other two lords, which never actually happens in the DLC (all of them have their completely separate campaigns pretty much). Though I'd say it probably also makes a difference if y0u are or aren't a TW player on how you rate the individual trailers because showing off the new units tends to be a big plus for players (for obvious reasons).
@@berendvanbeerschot1472 WH3's announcement trailer was cool imo, and so was the first Cathay trailer. Really disliked the overviews for both factions, you're right on that... "Bear bear bear, Elsa, bear!" and "dragon dragon dragon, harmony, dragon!". It's a lore issue. Champions of Chaos... meh. Festus's bits were boring and Valkia was pathetic, the others were pretty cool tho. SoC was a good trailer dragged down by bad prices, and ToD was an okay trailer pulled up by a good update.
45:50 "I wasnt looking at the leaders, i was looking down there at the blood" Yeah...i think that one was on purpose. The dlc "Blood for the Blood God" is literally the small dlc they bring out for every total warhammer which just increases the amount of blood and mutilation in the fights :D
Its been a staple of every single total war game since rome 2. The way they justify selling blood is so they can keep the rating. Fans hate it At least with warhammer you buy it once and you unlock it for all 3 games
As one of the people who worked on the trailer at 1:47:58 (which I consider one of the best and most fun) it was good to see your reaction, especially for the middle part as the tension goes higher and higher with a build-up! :)
I just watched it again that part and seriously, you made a movie trailer! You made me want to part with my cash to pick up the game/product and that means, not only have you done your job correctly, you've made me a fan of the game itself! I'd watch that as a feature. I really liked the camera movements you put in there too, really felt that dilemma and world problems the characters are facing, not to mention you made this trailer look expensive! Thank you for commenting, epic !
This trailer is a masterpiece. The build-up, the joke, the tension… but for me the best thing is that for the first time in the franchise you can see factions fighting together. When you recognize the units of different factions fighting together, is absolute cinema.
if you dont mind me asking, how'd you get a opportunity to work on something like that? i've been working on film for bit now and always wondered how people got jobs making game trailers
@penial_smasher_500 most of the time they'd use someone in house. Makes sense and saves money. If a game does require additional marketing needs, they sometimes out source it. I've seen that with indie studios but they'd do a full marketing campaign, not just the trailer. Best thing to do would be to reach out to the studios directly. Find the in-house team members. Maybe become fans of their work via social media channels. Strike up conversations and don't forget about LinkedIn.
34:32 "Are these famous lore characters in Warhammer?" You had to ask that during the "Grim and the Grave" trailer. 😂 For every other character, yes. Helman Ghorst was a one-off character from a supplement. His inclusion induced a lot of head scratching and jokes. His gameplay is great, just a literal "who?" character.
The long, one-shot "trailer" that you watched (and hated) wasn't really a trailer, per se, but a full campaign map reveal. It was riveting for fans of the game, because it showed both the extent of the new Immortal Empires map as well as many new starting positions for new and old factions alike. Not the most riveting for newcomers to the series, who, understandably, don't know what they're really looking at.
1:47:48 that a PROPER trailer for the Immortal Empires - the grand summary of all campaigns and factions from 3 games. There are 96 Total War: Warhammer 3 factions spread across 24 different races. It's so good and cinematography, I want a movie/series at least this good.
@@Dreamscythe1 I agree that the idea of the "trailer" is neat, but 12 minutes is just too long. If I was unsure about playing TW:W and I launched the game only to get a 12 minute expositional video on a map I would just close the game again. I like TW:W and have played the franchise, but that got too long and I think this feeling would be shared by many people that don't find lore-dumps that riveting.
The trailer length I can deal with but to have it as one long take and almost repeat the same motion was frankly boring. The eyes get bored after 7 seconds, they need to be refreshed. I also believe it was a trailer made for fans, not newcomers or coldcallers.
@@kaizammit Yes yes. This trailer was made to build up anticipation for a big Immortal Empires trailer. All fans of the 3 games wondered what the global map and starting positions of the legendary lords (factions/campaigns) would look like. This is interesting only for those who have played 1-3 games. The 3 "blood for the blood God" trailers is just payed "blood and gore" dlc for each game (from 1 till 3) they do not introduce anything new. CA can really make a cool faction introduction and story telling trailers like Chaos Dwarfs, Immortal Empires, Scavens, Tomb Kings, Vampire pirates etc.
So, since you asked. In the third game you do in fact get all the factions from the first two games as well, there's, as far as i know, 96 different factions spread out through 24 different races.
*provided you bought them with the previous games and DLCs. Neat for returning players, it makes you feel like you're getting value out of your old games going back years. But inordinately expensive for newcomers.
@@k.v.7681 I have always suggested to friends coming new to TW:Warhammer to start with the 1st game, if you like it, invest in DLC and the subsequent games. If you don't like it, you've saved yourself a boat load of money.
@@aaronwald9417 I always tell people to think about the faction they want to play and get the game with that faction's introduction, then pick up DLCs on sale if they want to expand. That said, you can get TW3 and pick up the DLCs for beastmen, wood elves, vampire coast etc just as easily as if you bought TW or TW2. Unless they specifically want to play the release factions for TW or TW2, may as well just get TW3. Even then you can play high elves by buying Warden and the Paunch for TW3, or Empire by getting Huntsman and the beast. Also helps that it means you can do co-op with them in immortal empires.
@@k.v.7681 Newcomers can actually get things much cheaper than people who bought it full price in the past. You dont have to buy it all at once. You can play the base game factions, then buy a dlc on sale to play new ones. Then buy another on sale. etc etc and its thousands of hours of content for a couple hundred bucks over time.
fun fact that scene with "cyberpunk rats" as you've called them is almost one to one shot scene from Predator also the huge fat goblin is a funny character in warhammer. He once been in eating competition and eaten a plate of raw troll steaks which kept regenerating in his stomach. He got insufferable indigestion but in the end managed to digest the stake but grew to the size of an ork
@@90skidcultistas far as warhammer lore goes, theres a lot of times a goblin has eaten troll meat and the result is it end up exploding. This was the one 0.01 chance case in wich the stomach acids could keep up with regen, but gigving infinite food to a gobbo makes it extremely fat.
What i find really interesting is your reaction to the lackluster trailers for Total War Warhammer 3. At that point in the lifespan of the game, the developers for the game were the ones who made the base game for the first and second games, having next to no interaction with the game as it evolved during it's 8 or so year lifespan . After some backlash from the community around questionable design choices. The developers from Total War Warhammer 2's dlc cycle came in and took over, and the trailers took a different approach around the same time. Watching your reactions to it was like watching a microcosm of the communities sentiment as a whole.
gotta remember this game was made as a strategy game so the models aren't as modeled as they would be in fps and such as you won't really look that close at them most of the time. and ye the game 3 really struggled for a while to find its stride its looking really up now tho.
Part of the changing nature of the trailers is due to the content of the pack they're selling. The rivalry ones are selling a DLC pack where you get those two characters and the units that feature in it to add on to their races. The ones that show a single faction are usually showing something that's either in the base game or a new race pack. There are three "blood for the blood god" trailers because, for daft reasons, they offer blood and extra violent animations as a separate download pack and they did one for each game (though you only need one and it applies to all three).
fun fact, the voice actor who said 'something stirs in the worlds edge mountains' in the Dwarf trailer, that you called Unicron...is none other than the voice of Daddy Pig from Peppa Pig 🤣
Ok, a few things to mention, as there were some misunderstandings: 1) The person who put the compilation together didn't do a particularly good job, as a few were missing, and he added in some stuff that didn't really have a place in such a video, mainly - the long tour around the TWW3 map, which you didn't like. No surprises there... because it wasn't a trailer, plain and simple, that's why it killed the flow of the whole thing, and it wasn't supposed to be there in the first place. 2) You didn't like some of the short ones among the 4 Champions of Chaos videos. Fair enough, however, the guy who made the video dropped the ball again, as there is a proper trailer for the DLC that combines all four of the short ones, and it has an awesome ending. 3) Finally, if you are thinking of picking up the game - yes, all the DLC's combined cost a ton of bank, but if you buy only TWW3, you already get access to the combined map of the three games, get a feel for it, and then you can just pick up bits and pieces that you really want.
01:30:00 Those trailers featuring 2 factions head to head were for DLCs based around a specific rivalry, usually based on the lore from the tabletop game. WH2 had loads of them by the end, WH3 has only had 2 so far. All WH2 base game factions had their own trailer focussing on them as well but there weren't so many.
I'm usually a lurker, but I wrote a huge post helping explain a lot about the franchise and trailers. I'm a huge fan of the entire Total War franchise, including the Warhammer games, so hopefully I can help explain some things about it! I actually commented on your last video about how I wanted you to react to these, so when I saw your community post about it, I immediately became a member to get that early access on it. Warhammer Fantasy has a loooot of factions as you saw here. And within those factions, they all have quite a lot of legendary figures that you play as, whether that's Karl Franz of the Empire, or Malus Darkblade for the Dark Elves. So each DLC focuses on either introducing a new faction, such as with the Wood Elves, Tomb Kings, Vampire Coast, etc, or showing off the new legendary lords that you play as. The latter is more prominent with Warhammer 2, where you saw that titan build up between the two characters. The lords DLC as they're called introduces two new lords and new units for that faction, so they have to show off the new units alongside building up those characters. At base launch, the game was limited to only the four base factions of High Elves, Dark Elves, Lizardmen, and Skaven, but Mortal Empires took the map from Warhammer 1 and combined the two together. For Warhammer 3, while it's my personal favorite game, many people did not enjoy it because of various bugs and other problems at launch. People also didn't enjoy the story campaign, and so they were waiting for the Immortal Empires to launch, which took the maps from Warhammer 1 and 2 and combined it together. The big gameplay trailer that made you feel so exhausted was for Immortal Empires, showing off just how massive the map was and what factions were in each region so you knew what to expect. It was meant for you to go "okay, I want to play as Grand Cathay, so what can I expect to see there?" But the game started off with 7 total factions: Kislev (the Russian/Polish faction), Grand Cathay (the Chinese faction), the 4 individual Chaos Gods, and Chaos Undivided. Kislev and Grand Cathay were both completely original; while the developers had the help from Games Workshop, they had to completely make a roster for them and come up with general themes for them (the same thing happened with the Vampire Coast, actually). So they had to show off each faction separately to give them their time in the sun. The same can be said for the Champions of Chaos, which introduced 4 new Chaos Champions for the DLC for the Warriors of Chaos faction. Plus there's far more gameplay trailers than in-engine/cinematic ones, because the game introduced many new locations that we (as fans) have never gone before, or there's very little information about, to help explain why there's so many trailers in open fields rather than in tighter areas. It's all to help show off these factions, their aesthetics, and help with world building. For example, Grand Cathay is only mentioned in lore, so they had to build them up from scratch using Chinese and Asian mythology. You were also going into the realms of each Chaos god, which, while we have heard about these locations before, we have never seen or gone to them in any games before. The Brass Citadel of Khorne, the Gardens of Nurgle, the Crystal Labyrinth of Tzeentch, and the Circles of Seduction of Slaanesh, fans were incredibly curious to see how these places would look in game. However, it's funny that you asked if the series had problems, because that actually came with Shadows of Change, where you asked that question. The DLC had to be raised up in price because of global inflation, and because of Warhammer 3 having so many factions, they're doing these lord packs in groups of 3 rather than 2. So with Shadows of Change, you have a new Kislev, Grand Cathay, and Tzeentch lord. But with that, many people felt like they weren't getting as much as in the past, the new lords felt too powerful so there was some power creep/pay to win complaints, and with a huge PR failure from the developers, it caused massive outrage amongst the fans. Thrones of Decay had to be delayed while the developers released a free expansion/patch for Shadows of Change to make it better for the fans that nearly doubled it's size, and since then they had been working on making their expansions better as well as having more free things, such as with Harald Hammerstorm. That's why you also noticed that the Thrones of Decay trailer wasn't as good, because a lot more time was being put into the development of all the new units for the expansion and they had to help show off all of these new toys that you would be getting. The Empire and Dwarves were especially two factions that people have been wanting reworks for, so you noticed a lot more time was spent showing off their units rather than the new Nurgle ones. Like you said, it's more of showing off all the brand new toys you get rather than an overall story. With all that said, I would still love for you to take a look at Total War: Three Kingdoms in the future. Way less trailers, first of all. It has a lot more voice overs and overall storytelling and titan building as well. It's based off of the Three Kingdoms period of Chinese history, which is heavily romanticized and you can see the characters in other games like Dynasty Warriors. There's also a ton of really cool cultural and history-related things in there, such as the use of poems from the historical figures themselves for the lyrics of the background music! I don't want to spoil too much about these trailers as I do enjoy watching you go into them blind, but I do recommend these next if you want some more Total War. It even came out around the same time as Warhammer 2, if you need more incentive for what to expect with these.
Thank you for the comment! So does this mean you're a lurker no more? You mentioned the campaign of 3 but do all of them have a campaign and are they good? Does all the dlc content also have campaign segments? Out of all of them, I really want to play 2 from the stories that they told but if I picked up 3, can I experience some of those extra bad arse factions from 2? I love the Egyptian looking faction. Instantly sold me on it!
@@kaizammit I guess that depends on what you'd want out of a campaign 😄It's much more about a "sandbox" experience, so you pick a faction and you're trying to take over the world through conquest or diplomacy. The campaign part of it comes from what happens to you during it, the ways you achieve your greatest victories or suffer your worst losses. It's much more player driven and about what stories you create from playing! You can think of it like other grand strategy or 4X games like Civilization. But Warhammer 2 and 3 both have a more "story" focused campaign, though they just have 2D art cutscenes rather than animated ones. The campaigns aren't anything like Halo or Gears of War, though, and it's still very much player driven in how you succeed in the campaign. I would say most people enjoy the more sandbox campaigns though, as most people enjoy interacting (and playing) with all the various factions and don't enjoy the timed aspect that the other campaigns have. Let me break down each campaign though for you: Warhammer 1 is a complete sandbox campaign pretty much. Warhammer 2 has two campaigns: the Vortex and the Mortal Empires. The Mortal Empires campaign is a sandbox experience again; you can pick any faction from Warhammer 1 and 2, and try to take over the world once again! With the Vortex, basically the base game factions (High Elves, Dark Elves, Lizardmen, and Skaven) are all trying to corrupt this magical vortex for their own means. Tomb Kings and Vampire Coast have their own objectives though. The Tomb Kings are trying to get the Black Books of Nagash, the first Necromancer, and use them to open up the Black Pyramid of Nagash to take over the world. Warhammer 3 has three campaigns actually: the tutorial campaign, the Chaos Realms, and the Immortal Empires. The Immortal Empires is once again, that big sandbox mode that takes Warhammer 1, 2, and 3 and combines them all together. The Chaos Realms is the more story focused one for Warhammer 3, where you have to go into each realm of Chaos to help (or kill) the bear god Ursun. The tutorial campaign actually follows the rise of the Daemon Prince, which you saw the trailer for! He was the guy that changed appearances and had the metal song playing in the background. But if you buy Warhammer 3, you can purchase all the previous factions as DLC, or just the ones that you want to play as! So if you want to play just as the Tomb Kings, you can buy that expansion and play as them in the Immortal Empires campaign 😄
@@kaizammit All the DLC factions you buy for 2 will carry over into 3 for their global campaign which includes literally every single faction you've seen in the trailers. The campaigns are fairly story light - a bit like playing Civ with some overarching goals depending on which faction leader you chose. Each "race" can have several factions, so there's several ratmen leaders you can play that each have a different starting location and campaign goals, for example.
@@kaizammit generally, to play the BIG map of every single thing you saw (and more) you play game 3. basically the games stack. So when game 2 came out the map of 2 combined with 1 and 3 with 2 and 1 forming one massive map with everything on it. The thing is tho is that games 1 and 2 don't get updates while 3 gets everything and is up to date. So if you want to play the Tomb Kings (the Egyptian faction) you would buy game 3 and the DLC from game 2 (I'm actually not 100% on this because I don't know if you need game 2 or not but I think it would tell you if you try to use tomb kings without getting the DLC for it in game 3). You can then play the game 2 DLC IN game 3. This isn't the case with all factions though since something like the dwarfs who are a game 1 race you would need to own game 3 and 1. Some units are also locked behind DLC like the air ships from the last trailer. So technically if you want to play the FULL faction you would want game 3, the game the faction you want to play is in, and the DLC for said faction if it has any (Tomb kings don't have any other DLC other than the one they come in, but something like the woodelves have 2 dlcs, one with the "race" and one with some extra fun toys + a new lord/faction for them) its a bit weird and pretty hard to get into which is why they made the full map free in game 3 instead of needing you to buy the other 2 games since that would mean you would need like 180$ just to play the big map. (this way you only need game 3) So to summarize again because i rambled, If you want to play Tomb Kings i would sudjest getting warhammer 3 since that's the best version of the GAME (mechanics visuals map faction balance etc). The load up the game and try playing the immortal empires campaign as the Tomb kings. At this point one of 2 things will happen. 1. the game will tell you you don't have that DLC and to go get that DLC (this is the good choice since you don't need game 2) then just go get the tomb kings DLC and you're good to go. 2. the game will tell you you need Warhammer 2 and the DLC. If this happens my sudjestion would be to look for some game keys or wait for a sale for game 2. Its generally like 60-80% off during sales since it adds a bunch of stuff for game 3 and kind of functions like a DLC. Once you get game 2 you can get the tomb kings DLC and you're 100% good to go. but I'm not even sure you need to do that you might just be good by getting the DLC but i would sudjest first downloading game 3 and checking if that's the case. in the mean time you can play around with game 3 and learn total war :)
@kaizammit I would recommend buying Warhammer 3 and then go from there. If you buy the previous games, the factions from those games (excluding unpurchased DLC) will be unlocked for you to play in Warhammer 3.
One might take a look at a Slann Mage-Priest like Lord Mazdamundi-the giant toad on the flying palanquin- and scoff, even laugh. But that is only until you hear about how he shifted & pushed some tectonic from the other side of the world because he thought "Nah, this is misaligned" which caused the fall of the entire Dwarf Empire. Yes, you read that correctly. He inadverdantly crippled an entire race and shattered their "Everlasting Realm" from the other side of the sodding planet.
2 hours??? Spoiling us today, are we? I want to add that I've been a long time fan and player of the Total War series. As far as my knowledge goes, the in game cinematics have always been a highlight for the series. Every time they released a trailer or teaser, they always blew me away. It kind of sucks that most are done in engine but I think that might've allowed the team a bit more freedom with what they wanted to do, especially in the budget department. Most of these are wonderful and I still go back and watch a few, even now, years on.
As someone who knows the warhammer world, every trailer was precious when they came out (excluding the blood ones, for reasons). Good to see another perspective, even though you shat on the game 3 ones. Good work!
man it's been 9 or so years as i saw first trailers, man that was A W E S O M E. Even now, given bigger and better trailers i feel those goosebumps again. I'm a big Total War fan, and warhammer series just amazed me so much, i still remember the hype and anticipation. Total Joy.
and i can tell you why this was hype. When i got into warhammer 40k fantasy was dying, they made end times and Age of Sigmar already, literally no people played tabletop (only total fans) Then they completely stopping releasing tabletop, and there were only occasional PC games found on the internet about warhammer fantasy. Some of them were reasonably good, but most of them were shitty, and some were garbage, no less. But i didn't come at any masterpiece per se (also if anyone knows really good warhammer fantasy games other than total war ones, please recommend me). So we got: really fucking good studio (Games Workshop) that makes warhammer in multiple settings and they are both fantastic, and by the time i was total war fan like totally (pun intended), and i knew that The Creative Assembly was really fucking good at making their total war games too. They all, at the time, were at least "reasonably good" but amount of masterpieces is big. And I already knew that they like modding, they endorse it. And when i heard that "Total war will get a shift in reality" or something along the lines, we geniunely thought it was Lord of the Rings or something like that, that is more classic and "alive". And we had LoTR mods for TW: Rome, so it was purely logical to conclude that it would not "shift reality" this much. I remember announcement which i read in disbelief, was thinking like "what were they thinking", then i remembered that its "really fucking good studio" and started believing in them, then i watched first trailer and it was a BLAST. Man those are one of my core memories. When i saw hero-units, i didn't know what to think, "how would the do them, they would just get shot by the arrow, don't they?" - i didn't know how much they were shifting perspective with this one. And then i saw magic and it was "i'm done, if thiss won't become the best game of my life - i'm not me". First game was really enjoyable, but it started to get uncomfortable for some reason. Then i've heard that i'm not alone, and CA really tried to fix some things and shake things up. Modding wasn't here yet on the first day i think, that added to the uncertainty of the new series, but i really liked it, despite all. I enjoyed smashing as orks, raising undead and there was already so much that i touched main campaign only once, every time playing as some other race. Then there were second game. I didn't expect much, was ready that it will be disappointment. But i, again, forgor, that CA is GOAT at this type of games (at lease they were). And they released it. Main campaign again for 1-2 times, (that will happen again in the third game), but mainly it's starting to get boring, even when trying new races, and then they expanded to Mortal Empires. THIS WAS HYPE. No goal, but so much to do. Old total war style campaign where you have set of missions, but there's nothing stopping or punishing you for NOT doing them. And they've done everything right, from placing factions, to the sheer size of the available world. And then trailer for the third game. This bought me, i've watched all demo matches, and after release even with shitty campaing i played it for hours and hours non-stop. This has finally become the game of my life. Mortal Empires is still good, but the modding scene in wh3 is just sprawling, i really enjoy replayability even without mods, but with them - it's a new level TL;DR; Some parts of the story are about the inevitable problems when company tries 90 degrees turn and develops something totally new. But mainly it was real joy and hype, it was really a journey, one can say. Sometimes even emotional rollercoaster.
I think the difference in quality for some of the cinematics came down to the purpose of them. There is a clear difference between the videos made to promo the new stuff vs the videos made to demonstrate gameplay and give you a sense of how things would look in game. Like the one that went around the entire map, it really did show basically the entire in game map.
Dude you're so right with the Khornate champion of chaos Valkia that trailer did make her look weak and thats how everyone received it i'm glad you caught that.
I don't understand why or how they thought that was a good idea. "Here's a champion for you players but at the same time... She's not the best!" Terrible
@@kaizammit Especially considering in game she would probably barely even notice a whole unit of 60 throwing axes hitting her let alone 1 while on the ground like that. They turned one of the worlds best fighters, who killed a deamon prince while still mortal in a 1 on 1 duel, into a weakling who gets overwhelmed by a few basic marauders surrounding her and an axe in the back. This after she became and even better fighter when Khorne made her a deamon. "Ohh and please buy the DLC."
1:58:02 Part of what you're noticing is that the team that made Warhammer 3 were not the same people that made Warhammer 2. The team from 2 were brought over to work on 3 after it launched, which is why the style fluctuates a bit. As it happens Warhammer 3 wasn't as well received at launch (and had a few bumps since too), so it seems there was a correlation between the level of detail for the trailers and the quality of the game.
I think you're the first person I've seen that enabled a time skip for your intro ad and i wholeheartedly appreciate that! That alone made me subscribe!

Cathay (the Chinese inspired faction) don't tend to be flashy with themselves. They pride themselves on harmony and practicality since it is the ONLY thing keeping those lands safe as on the other side of the Great Bastion is chaos and if the bastion falls then that whole part of the world would be at great risk of being lost to chaos forever
1:20 thank you, sincerely, for doing this sponsorship. I literally just bought the same earbuds and have been contemplating on whether or not I should get one of the protective cases and this was a wonderful demonstration. I normally don’t really pay attention when RUclipsrs do sponsorships but this actually came at a convenient time lol
I hope you used my link and saved yourself some pennies! The Green outer shell would have been messed up by now if I didn't have the protective case on. Glad I got one!
1:53:06 this character is an old series character called Harald Hammerstorm (nicknamed Harry the Hammer), and he wields The Warhammer. That weapon is where the brand comes from.
One of my favorite game series of all time, I have thousands upon thousands of hours. So much replayablility and the lore is amazing. Thanks for the reaction, this’ll get me through my work shift :)
When you asked was Warhammer struggling, man you nailed it. TW Warhammer peaked with II and the trailers reflect that. It fell off a bit with III, quite a bit if you ask me, but in the past few months since the Shadows of Change expansion it has really bounced back and as you pointed out that is reflected in the trailer. Warhammer is again on top of it's game and the community is excited. May I also say you did a wonderful job on the video, thank you very much. I've really enjoyed it.
A little less known fact, the CGI cinematics for Warhammer 1 and 3 were made by Platige Image, Polish studio that also made the Witcher 2 cinematic. Edit: Since you enjoyed Warhammer 2 cinematics (as did most of us) you could (and should!)give a look to the "Introducing..." videos from it, they were pretty great. For example Introducing Sisters, Introducing Medusa, Introducing Hellpit Abomination, Introducing Poison Wind Mortar, Introducing Sphinxes are among my favourite. You should also take a look at the Tomb Kings intro that plays in game, its one of my fav cinematics in the whole series. You can find it under "Tomb Kings campaign intro | Total War: Warhammer 2" from PCGamesN channel here on YT. I also recommend Introducing... Isabela von Carstein and Introducing... Master Necromancer from Warhammer 1, they are a bit aged, but I love these two.
What I find so cool about these videos is seeing *why* some of these always felt better than others. Like, I knew and felt some were so much higher quality but thanks to you I actually know why I watched some on repeat getting hyped and forgot about others lol. Keep up the great work man, its so interesting to learn about.
so the girl at 39:36 is actually his mother, and I actually like both warhammer 40k and this warhammer. the games are pretty interesting and fun, there is so much you can do and the trailers are just a cherry on top. im really hoping they end up getting the permission to push out a total war: warhammer 40k
"they are making it look enormous!" thats because it is. The campaign map in total war warhammer 3 is currently so big and has so many factions that you realistically will never meet more than 40% of the factions that are on the map in one playthrough. If some faction on the other end of the map declares war on you, you will likely never see them because the distance is just too big. It is MASSIVE. As for your question of factions: yes, all the factions that were available in the earlier titles of the series are available, however you still need to have the previous games AND buy all the dlc factions to have access to them. It's honestly whats kept this game so small, as joining in as a new player you will be greeted with a massive bill if you want everything. Ofc, you can wait for giveaways and sales and buy it little by little, but it usually just scares off many potential new players. It's a bit of a shame because the game has a thriving and helpful community (even though it is very small).
Game 3 significantly improves that dynamic by making the long-asked-for decision to make Immortal Empires accessible with just the purchase of game 3. You don't need to own all 3 games to play on the map with all the factions, and it helps new players get their foot through the door with only the base game buy. There is still a tremendous amount of content locked behind a large sum of cash, but at least they can take a solid look at the game and all it's factions and decide on any specific ones they would like to pick up, rather than needing to blindly purchase several games + DLCs before even knowing if they wanted to properly invest like in WH2.
52:33 - There is a reference to the iconic scene from the movie Predator with Arnold Schwarzenegger. I recommend watching these 53 seconds: "Prophet and the Warlock trailer side by side with Predator" - (on yt) Masterpiece.
I love how exited he got when he realized the Tomb Kings are in fact based on ancient egyptian culture and mythology. Right in the beginning he is like "if this got egyptian stuff im on board" and when he sees the Settra, the necrosphinx flattenening some poor infantry and then the Hierotitan appearing, you can see it in Kais eyes. Like a child on christmas eve. Priceless reaction :D
One clear difference between Warhammer Fantasy and Warhammer 40K is Fantasy has some actual good guys. The Empire, Brittonians, Elves and Dwarves bicker and have conflicts but they are generally united against the forces of corruption. This is in contrast to 40K where everything is depressing and almost everyone is either evil or xenophobic. I love my space marines but sometimes its nice to go to simpler times when there's clear lines between good and evil.
The third game's trailers were mostly about showcasing the battles because for the first time, it wasn't just a 1-2 player campaign, they allow you to play up to 8 players, in this MASSIVE campaign bringing together all 3 games. It is absolutely insane just how much content is packed into this game.
@@WreckItRolfe Yeah, it's really a thing you pick up parts of during sales. I never really recommend people buy everything at full price because all the games and DLCs are still sold at full price on steam.
Hell yeah! I love total war warhammer so to see it covered is a dream come true. I would have suggested it but i wasnt sure they were something kai would have covered
Thrones of Decay also lacked story telling as it used a narrative event that happened in warhammer fantasy as its story, so those that knew had that narrative experience through the trailer, while those that don't know about it lacked it
I recommend you watch the Tribe Trailers for Shadow of War. It's a lord of the Rings Game by Warner Brother Games aka the creators that made Hogwarts Legacy with the same combat system that God of War uses. The Game went under the radar of a lot of people. The orc tribes each got their own theme and fitting trailer. I recommend you watch the video: Shadow of War - Definitive Edition | All 9 Tribes (2018 Update) by RedTieGuy
vilitch the curseling is soo much fun to play,he's the big brute with the parasite-snake looking guy attached to him, mage and melee character and if you obtain an item called the vessel of chaos his spells only have 1 second cooldown
You aren't familiar with Warhammer, but at 8:25 the soldiers are backing up in fear, but when Karl Franz arrives they start advancing again. Truly a gigachad
The thing about Warhammer Fantasy I really love is that they take real world inspiration translate it into a vast fantasy setting and turn everything to 11, and total war really let me play and enjoy them all.. Wanna play as fantasy glorified brits, boom high elves or as psychotic Americans obsessed with their whatever, boom dark elves… sometimes you fancy china, et voila grand cathay, or a medley of fantasy slavic people, we’ve got kislev for ya… Roleplaying as Holy Roman Empire ? Sure here is The Empire of Men, or maybe a bit weird undead eastern cousin, gotcha with Vampire Counts… Fancy a fantasy scandi flick ? We’ve got Norsca and their crazy pillaging culture, but what about the glory of ancient egypt ? Tomb King is right there on the desert. Hate Egypt and want to Launch a crusade to take back fantasy Jerusalem ? Bretonnian crusader kinda let you do that, or you rather eat croissant and onion soup in feudal France ? Come to mainland Bretonnia, you got to tax your peasants to infinity there lol What about ancient mid and south american cultures ? We’ve got them lizard people across the great ocean… The Fantasy Spain, Italy, and Portugal ? How about the infamous Border Princes… Middle East you said ? Well because CA kinda being a stingy on giving us Araby, we’ve got Waaghh! of everlasting conflict with the Orcs instead on that part of the world… Oh you said fantasy India, Japanese and South East Asian mash up ? Well if CA wants to make smart decision, we should get Kingdom of Ind, Kuresh, and Nippon in the future… legend says there are Snake people lurking in the ancient jungle of fantasy Thailand mate. And at last there are Demons if you fancy them. See what a game with rich lore, thats why I love it
If you are interested in the Total War rabbit hole. Might I recommend the Total War: Three Kingdoms trailers and the Total War: Shogun 2 Trailer. Both of which I believe were some of CA's best cinematic works. Shogun 2 is really old but has aged extremely well. Three kingdoms I believe has that Total War Warhammer 2 energy that you were missing after the 3rd entry. As always, thanks again for your great insights into the cinematic world.
@25:35 I love the Norsca trailer, definitely gave me a stop motion sort of feel with the odd frame rate. I think it’s meant to make you feel sort of off balance while watching it? It’s an unsettling effect to just have dropped on you unexpectedly.
with the beastmen trailer, they seemingly just used the helmets to give the image of heads on spikes without having a higher pg rating, which works very well to me
Wow, it was nostalgic seeing some of these again with your fresh perspective. You called so many things so well too. There was a change in direction for W3, and the drop in quality was happening along with a troubled launch. The immortal empires release trailer was the start of them dragging it back up to W2 levels in both cinematics and gameplay. Also, the DLC format of W1 & W2 (two lords per DLC) really leant itself to straightforward opposition story telling/world building. PS: I don't know why you were given the W3 IE informational location video along with the cinematics. You really had to know all three games to get much value out of that.
If you want to do a sort of case study on this I would recommend talking to some content creators who focus on this game, especially Loremaster of Sotek. He's a great fan of the series since launch and often talks with the devs behind the scenes so he could really tell you some stuff from what the developers and art direction were thinking, as well as how the game was doing at certain times. Plus I think he would love nothing more than talk about it.
There are also quite the lot of really good fanmade Cinematics about TW:W1-3 here on YT. Surely worth a look. Edit: Engagingbear has a lot, and "Guardians" from Paul1748 is also really cool.
There's also intro cinematics for each of the new factions in TWW3 that play when you start a realms of chaos campaign with them. They're pretty good and a closer look at some of the characters and factions. I don't know if there's a playlist with the newer ones but there's a video of the launch ones just called "Starting Cinematics for All Legendary Lords. Total War Warhammer 3".
5:34 - I believe that is a Demon Prince of Tzeentch, they look like giant, humanoid vultures with Egyptian-esque themes. 26:47 - "Blood For The Blood God" are the blood and gore updates, also the battlecry of Khornate soldiers, "Blood for the Blood God! Skulls for the Skull Throne!" 38:30 - That is Malekith, he is a dark elf. He is wearing ceremonial armor that is fused to his skin via fire, thanks to a failed ritual/test because of his over-eagerness. 43:40 - Three factions. Skaven, Dark Elves and Lizardmen. 45:55 - That was the blood and gore update again, the blood was the focus, not really the heroes, so it did it's job I believe. 46:34 - Khaine is an Elven god, he is also in 40K as one of the Eldar's surviving gods. 1:14:40 - Tzeentch chaos faction. 1:35:18 - This massive map belongs to the Immortal Empires campaign, which is all maps and factions from all three games, combined into one grand campaign. 1:50:30 - That tiger bird is one of the most powerful griffons in Warhammer Fantasy, raised by it's rider, Emperor Karl Franz. It's name is Deathclaw. Creative Assembly was/is struggling with Total Warhammer 3; Some kind of background changes took place. They started charging higher prices for less content, which pissed off quite a few in the fanbase. I'm sure there's more info, but that's all I know. Well... that's two hours spent. Enjoyed well enough I suppose, otherwise I wouldn't have stuck around.
The war hammer (which is the series icon and namesake) is Ghal Maraz, Skull Splitter, famed weapon of the legendary founder of the human empire Sigmar Heldenhammer. A dwarven ancestor weapon that he gained after rescuing the then Dwarf King Kurgan Ironbeard from the goblins, he was also given his name Heldenhammer, "Hammer of the Goblins" from that said event.
Yeah that long one is just something they made to refreash everyone who returned to the game on where everything was and what everyone were doing since all these games have built on each other, so it's massive. I wouldn't call it a trailer at all, it's more just extra content for those who are looking into getting the game. I remember loving stuff like that when I was a kid and couldn't just buy any game I wanted right away, watching as many videos about it as possible was alot of fun, but it is really bad as a viewer experience.
Just a note with those 4 trailers around the 1:28:00 mark (the purple, then green, then blue, then red characters) they were the first 4 faction "lord pack" dlc (a dlc that adds to an existing group rather than creating a new one. For a previous example, the new rat characters Vs the introduction of the Egyptian group of factions) and had 4 separate trailers rather than the previous single trailer for 2 rival factions.
1:56:00 - Yes, at launch warhammer 3 and CA/ Sega in general struggled. As established in WH 2, you got an exclusive campaign with the new factions centered around a campaign map objective (conquering the maelstorm in wh 2) and then they combine the sanbox campaigns from 1 and 2 in mortal empires. They planned the same for wh3 with the chaos realms campaign. And it was a messy release with bad optimization and more experimental campaign features than the majority of the fans could accept. There was a lot of backlash and negativity in the community, mostly centered around that the storytelling features of the campaign took to much from your total war sandbox experience and forces a certain approach on you. In addition, the content felt rushed. CA tried to branch out into more titles like riot and failed to assign enough ressources to its main spearhead title. In retrospect, its amazing that you feel a drop of quality without knowing and guess there must have been struggle behind thge scenes. Youre right, CA was good to tell stories in their trailers, but post announcement cinematic trailers were just a beautiful but hollow showcase to show of new units and content rather then to tell a story with it. And right with "short?!?!" cinematic trailer they got back on track. It was a rerealese of the big campaign map. They got critized that "the good campaing" demands you to have all 3 titels to play it. They changed that to regain goodwil from the community and made this awesome trailer to announce that. Behind the scenes they closed other projects and refocues their efforts and restructred the projects and communications. And you see the change of heart back to the roots in the trailer quality. Glad i watched your video. I would have missed that cuz i would have never watched all the stuff in chronologically order.
I'm sure people already commented plenty about it, but all those factions you saw, if you own them, you can play them in the third game. If you don't own them, you can still fight htem with the ones you do own. (see: The trailer at 1:48:00 ) Technically they're chronologically in reverse order, where the old adviser dies in game 1 and starts his journey in game 3. Every Warhammer 2 trailer also is based on some movie or set of movies like Jurassic Park, Mad Max & The Dark Knight, Pirates of the Caribbean, the Mummy as you noted, so if you didn't guess it was a reference for one of them you might find it neat to go digging and finding out which ones are which. They continued doing it around the Chaos Dwarf trailer for 3, if memory serves. Taking scenes from stuff like Dune which was big that year. Funnily enough, they were struggling around Shadows of Change, they massively cheaped out, hiked the prices and people boycotted the company, their next DLC was do or die and they're slowly getting back player trust. As for the blood for the blood god stuff-- Creative Assembly sells blood separately in their games about war and slaughter with a literal blood good in one of them I gotta say, personally, the Vampirates are still my favourite trailer
almost every time you asked what happened to the quality... it had just seamlessly switched from cinematic to in-game visuals... impressive that you didn't notice the moment of transition
41:55 A neat detail about the shaven trailer is that, in lore the number 13 is sacred to them, and there are 13 bell strikes, with the last at the climax towards the end of the trailer.
It's amazing to see all this more professional analyzing! I've always thought the trailers done well and while I got some skill in 3D lighting and creating such scenes (and the effort to get something right), it's fun to hear someone who truly knows it than just my gut feeling. It's interesting as well you say it fell off during WH3 for a time, which not only did the game itself disappoint fans with its ups and downs in quality of the game itself that makes for an interesting parallel, but I did feel myself there weren't that amazing shots. It could've been for number of reasons, but once the trailers started picking up that's when the game started to pick up itself as well and hopefully with the last ones it'll keep on going with the next big DLC trailer coming up in the following months. The game itself is a blast, even if you're not an RTS or turn based big campaign nerd, you can enjoy it merely for what it offers: all manner of fantasy races, factions and big characters you can surely find something that resonates with you, and then just have fun progressing these massive campaigns, exploring a world you'll not touch all of in one, two or three playthroughs and then what drives most of us into Total War games: the giant cinematic battles where, yes you can play it like a RTS game (albeit it plays slower), but you can also just have fun smashing your forces into the enemy forces while you zoom in, look at all the incredible models and heroes ducking it out!
Was a blast to see you enjoy these for the first time. Also, you totally picked up on the fact that the cinematics were starting to kinda lag around the champions of chaos, and the game was struggling then too.
The Thrones of Decay trailer bein' a "throwing all your toys in" trailer is probably as a direct response to the reception of Shadows of Change, where Shadows of Change came with a hike-up in price while having less over-all content in it. ToD focused a lot on having more content and the trailer made sure to show off that content, so yeah, throwing all the toys in. It also came with some *very* anticipated units and characters.
You definitely should react to the Black Myth: Wukong game trailers. Its made in Unreal 5 and the cinematics are beautiful, the character models are unique, all the trailers are awesome.
Maybe somebody wrote it here but. Mortal Empires is TTW 1 + 2 map put together and Immortal Empires is TTW 1+2+3 map together which means the whole Old World Map. About factions, there are differences but WH40k and WH Fantasy have almost the same factions. Also Blood for the Blood God is DLC to add more blood and gore, each one of the games have this dlc. The Egyptian stuff. They are WH40k Necrons in Fantasy. Also sry for edits, im commenting this as i watch this video :D Yes Vampire pirates and yes something like cyberpunk rats, Skaven are something like cyberpunk rats but they are fueled with warp energies, they are alinged to chaos. TTW3 about cinematic quality. They are changing between cinematic, in-game trailer and true in-game video (those are the worse in graphic quality so to say) Yes there are many SP campaigns in all of those three games
If you want to know Warhammer Fantasy released BEFORE Warhammer 40K. Furthermore, Warhammer 40K at the beginning was only a possible future/world that existed in a book in the great library of the magic school of Altdorf (the capital of the "Empire", the human empire). Warhammer 40K gain in popularity as a figurine fighting game while Warhammer Fantasy more as a tabletop rpg like D&D. After that Warhammer 40K and Fantasy drifted apart and both became "official" world seperate from each other like alternative universe. Like "What if the empire but Spacemarine ?" That's why each race are the "same" or there are equivalent, that's why EVERY SINGLE GOD are the same. That's why the "blood for the blood god" that you say was in 40K is wrong and true at the same time. It's the catchphrase of Khorne the chaos god, so he exist in both world. I like both world but personally I prefer the fantasy one as I'm more of a tabletop player than a figurine fight player and I prefer sword & magic than sci-fi.
Talking about the Voice Over in the trailers and the shift in direction as far as that specific aspect goes for the later trailers of Warhammer 3 - that old gravelly voice belongs to one of the unique characters in Total War Warhammer 1/2/3 (meaning he doesn't appear in other Warhammer Fantasy stuff) called The Advisor. In addition to being Trailer Voice Over, the Advisor also did the tutorial "You should build, you should recruit, you should start a second army, etc" elements alongside having plot relevance within the storyline campaigns for all three games as you progress through them - you can visually see The Advisor in the base game Warhammer 1 trailers as the Old Guy with the Bird Friend, and the Warhammer 3 trailers as the not-so-old guy with the Book. All that is to say that the reason why the Voice Over direction has changed partway through Warhammer 3's lifetime is because the Voice Actor for The Advisor, Sean Barrett (whose been Acting/Voice Acting since 1952 and voiced characters in Labrynth (1986) and Dark Crystal (1982) and other games like Dark Souls hence why it probably sounded familiar to you), retired in 2022 at the age of 82, and now spends his time sipping tea in the british countryside. Since then Creative Asssembly has occasionally brought in Liz Sutherland-Lim to do some Trailer/In-Game Voice Over work (as you hear in the Harold Hammerstorm trailer) since she has worked for them in the past with Total War: Three Kingdoms and other Historical trailers, but especially with them changing Vocie Actors to a new male voice for the Karanak trailer it could be a sign that they are eithe still looking for the new "Voice" to permanently take that place for the next few years of Total War Warhammer 3's development, or they are just going to change Voice Actors as needed to fit the 'feel' of the content. We won't really be able to tell until more content gets announced/released.
The blood for the blood god dlc (which was released seperately for each game) just adds blood, decaptiations, etc. So it wasnt trying to sell a story, but to sell in game visual effects.
1:20:46 if you buy only the third game you only get the faction of that one, if you buy any previous game and dlc, the faction of those game/dlc are also playable. The AI get all the factions and even the unit that you don't have access to
Awesome commentary that actually adds to the video. Also that blood for the blood god trailer was a for a dlc that basically adds for blood and gore to the battles, all 3 of the TW WH titles have one

Staying in the same subject, check out the tww2 cinematic trailers by engagingbear. Fan made trailers for these games that are far better than what CA did. Particularly Faith, steel, and gunpowder
Recently played total war 3 again due to this video. To answer your question about number of factions. In total including sub factions there are over 200 active factions on the map turn 1
Damn! So if I want to play it, jump to 3 yeah?
@@kaizammit for sure number 3. All factions previously shown in the trailer are in 3 as far as I know. Hope this is helpful
My pc use part from 2012 and wh1 runs just fine
"Oh, mate, he's like a fantasy darth Vader"
You didn't know how close to the truth you are😂
3rd degree burns on every inch of his body? Check
Trapped in a suit of armor that's keeping him alive? Check
Disdain for the society he grew up in after they refused to give him the status and recognition he felt he deserved? Check
Attempted coup with the aid of darker powers? Check
"I hate snow"
I mean, Vader didn't had a thing for his mom, but the rest checks out.
As a comment in a PancreasNoWork video about him once said(ish)
"Darth Vader and Malakith are similar, Vader has problems with his mother, mentor, lover, and superior; Malakiths problem is that they are all the same person"
For those who don't know, Malekith was also burned all over his body and put in a suit.
Yes, that one was definitely targeted towards existing or returning players, not new ones.
@@regal_eagle717 I thought that might be the case but that one shot killed my eyes! I don't know how you guys n gals do it!
Yeah, that trailer is for people who are already very bought in because it's showing where basically everyone you already own is going to start and showing off the big world map instead of actually selling anything.
I didn't even know this trailer existed until now....
@@kaizammit This game conditions you to become immune to eyestrain. Battles are so fast paced that blinking at the wrong moment, while your opponent is launching a spell that you miss, will mean a loss.
The fact that you figured out the franchise was struggling in the beginning of the launch of tww3 just from the trailers is very impressive.
I can tell a lot just by watching but then again, I've been doing this for years.
Yes accept it hasn't really gotten better and SoC had a good trailer but was worse then getting cancer and ToD had a mid trailer but was amazing
@@LordPajzl It has really gotten better after SoC ironically.
@@LordPajzl It is substantially better, easily on par with TWWH2 at the end of it's life cycle minus some graphical issues.
Nah Warhammer 2 is peak
I love your reaction to the vampire coast! I Had execatly the same reaction when I first saw that.
"Are those pirates?"
"Are those Vampires!"
"Those are crabs!" :')
I mean what could be cooler than vampire pirate zombies with giant crabs?
@@TitanDarwin Yeah, like for throne of decay I was far more excited for the nurgle rework and new units making it quite a good trailer for me.
That CA logo at the start is for Creative Assembly, you likely know them for making Halo Wars 2, but Total War is what they're known for.
He does say it at 28:54
@daepappy Yeah, gotten past that point in the video now.
@@daepappy I figured it out eventually, I knew I would.
@@kaizammitHahaha love the kaiba emoji !
45:50 "I wasnt looking at the leaders, i was looking down there at the blood" Yeah...i think that one was on purpose. The dlc "Blood for the Blood God" is literally the small dlc they bring out for every total warhammer which just increases the amount of blood and mutilation in the fights :D
More like adds it in the first place lol
Its been a staple of every single total war game since rome 2. The way they justify selling blood is so they can keep the rating. Fans hate it
At least with warhammer you buy it once and you unlock it for all 3 games
It's also to its also so it can be sold in some countries. Different countries have different rules for violence in video games
I love that trailer i still watch it thanks for the great job my best part is 'shoooort?'
This trailer is a masterpiece. The build-up, the joke, the tension…
but for me the best thing is that for the first time in the franchise you can see factions fighting together.
34:32 "Are these famous lore characters in Warhammer?"
You had to ask that during the "Grim and the Grave" trailer. 😂
For every other character, yes. Helman Ghorst was a one-off character from a supplement. His inclusion induced a lot of head scratching and jokes. His gameplay is great, just a literal "who?" character.
Hahah the timing on that got a laugh out of me too.
It's hilarious that a complete nobody has become the most OP lord in the game 😂
It's so good and cinematography, I want a movie/series at least this good.
yeah watching him spaz over the length was getting annoying, was an awesome trailer to show you where every one starts and what the world looks like
@@Dreamscythe1 I agree that the idea of the "trailer" is neat, but 12 minutes is just too long.
@@kaizammit it wasnt really made to be entertaining but just to give us (the current players at the time) more information
@@k.v.7681 Why I always recommend people buying on sale or key sites. Never pay full price for dlc
@@k.v.7681 Newcomers can actually get things much cheaper than people who bought it full price in the past. You dont have to buy it all at once. You can play the base game factions, then buy a dlc on sale to play new ones. Then buy another on sale. etc etc and its thousands of hours of content for a couple hundred bucks over time.
fun fact
that scene with "cyberpunk rats" as you've called them is almost one to one shot scene from Predator
also the huge fat goblin is a funny character in warhammer. He once been in eating competition and eaten a plate of raw troll steaks which kept regenerating in his stomach. He got insufferable indigestion but in the end managed to digest the stake but grew to the size of an ork
I knew it was close to predator! That's an awesome fact about the fat goblin
Actually, it keeps regenerating faster than he can digest it. Then he bloated up to what we know him as today.
Thought the exact same while watching this.
Also laughed at him becoming a Lizardmen main without playing the game
@AiR1DaN I see greatness in those bad boys.
That's interesting observation! Thanks
someone apparently purchased warhammer on sale on steam and got hooked on it lmao. just like i did this summer
gotta remember this game was made as a strategy game so the models aren't as modeled as they would be in fps and such as you won't really look that close at them most of the time.
and ye the game 3 really struggled for a while to find its stride its looking really up now tho.
To be honest the graphics are WAY better compared to some fps games.
So in other words, Highking Thorgrim Grugebearer is Daddy Pig.
Peppa Pig belongs to Warhammer Fantasy then
@@AD45 Then what faction would she fall under?
Sure wasn't expecting you to watch all of them, what a treat!
Go big or go home right!?
They actually filmed the first cinematic trailer in life action first, the bits with the wizard, to use as reference material for the animators.
39:30 ''She's like his sorceress or something'' Yeah and his mom among other things... 😅
Sweet home Naggarond, I'm comin home.
Ok, a few things to mention, as there were some misunderstandings:
1) The person who put the compilation together didn't do a particularly good job, as a few were missing, and he added in some stuff that didn't really have a place in such a video, mainly - the long tour around the TWW3 map, which you didn't like.
Yea I felt this too, it was a bad compilation of "trailers" lowering some of the trailers quality and frames per second in the process.
Let me break down each campaign though for you:
Warhammer 1 is a complete sandbox campaign pretty much.
So technically if you want to play the FULL faction you would want game 3, the game the faction you want to play is in, and the DLC for said faction if it has any (Tomb kings don't have any other DLC other than the one they come in, but something like the woodelves have 2 dlcs, one with the "race" and one with some extra fun toys + a new lord/faction for them)
its a bit weird and pretty hard to get into which is why they made the full map free in game 3 instead of needing you to buy the other 2 games since that would mean you would need like 180$ just to play the big map. (this way you only need game 3)
So to summarize again because i rambled, If you want to play Tomb Kings i would sudjest getting warhammer 3 since that's the best version of the GAME (mechanics visuals map faction balance etc).
And only because he thinks a mountain range looks off.
All I'm going to say is Total War 2 , Oh my... my pants are still wet I hope you enjoy the total nonstop action that the 2 hours provide.
43:16 these are skaven which have the holy number 13 and that is why you heard the bell 13 times because the bell is also holy

@@kaizammit I feel like the one after (hunter and the beast) is a Jurassic Park reference, I seem to recall a T-Rex chasing a jeep at some point.
As someone who knows the warhammer world, every trailer was precious when they came out (excluding the blood ones, for reasons). Good to see another perspective, even though you shat on the game 3 ones. Good work!
Well, I tried to be a little respectful Thank you for watching
man it's been 9 or so years as i saw first trailers, man that was A W E S O M E.
Mortal Empires is still good, but the modding scene in wh3 is just sprawling, i really enjoy replayability even without mods, but with them - it's a new level
TL;DR; Some parts of the story are about the inevitable problems when company tries 90 degrees turn and develops something totally new. But mainly it was real joy and hype, it was really a journey, one can say. Sometimes even emotional rollercoaster.
at 1:58:11 when he said there was shit coming at the screen you could see nurgle projectiles. so shit was literally coming at the screen.
@@kaizammityea that was wierd but in game she can Be one of The better leaders
@@kaizammit Especially considering in game she would probably barely even notice a whole unit of 60 throwing axes hitting her let alone 1 while on the ground like that. They turned one of the worlds best fighters, who killed a deamon prince while still mortal in a 1 on 1 duel, into a weakling who gets overwhelmed by a few basic marauders surrounding her and an axe in the back. This after she became and even better fighter when Khorne made her a deamon. "Ohh and please buy the DLC."
They really did do Valkia so dirty. Between the three, I've enjoyed nearly 3000 hours of playtime. Glad you had fun with the cinematics!
Sooo dirty. Made me satisfied to see him have the same reaction I did without knowing any of her lore. *resists the urge to rant*

Your work shift , you're ! I love it
When you asked was Warhammer struggling, man you nailed it.
Thank you for watching!
It's crazy to me you only have about 37k subs. With the quality of your videos and your breakdowns, I believe people need to know about you.
Well I've only been going a year and a bit so early days I guess. Maybe one day more people will know about the channel and the community.
so the girl at 39:36 is actually his mother, and I actually like both warhammer 40k and this warhammer. the games are pretty interesting and fun, there is so much you can do and the trailers are just a cherry on top. im really hoping they end up getting the permission to push out a total war: warhammer 40k
Don't forget to mention the big part about her being his mother. That they were apparently born in Alabama.
@@shadowstep1375 thats dark elves for you
2 hours?! Damn man thats some endurance. Props to you.
I recommend watching these 53 seconds:
"Prophet and the Warlock trailer side by side with Predator" - (on yt) Masterpiece.
"70% of picture is sound." What a wonderful thing to say.
For a price
@@WreckItRolfe "All pleasures have a price..."
@@WreckItRolfe Well yes, if you want to play the factions of all three games you have to buy all three games.
I got you
@@kaizammit 🤣 master cheeks stamp of approval
@@beccadixon1943 You should have read my comment in the Master voice too, reads better !
The orc tribes each got their own
theme and fitting trailer.
Finally I been waiting for this !
I remember commenting on one of the break down video about this. And it’s finally happening I’m so hyped
You aren't familiar with Warhammer, but at 8:25 the soldiers are backing up in fear, but when Karl Franz arrives they start advancing again. Truly a gigachad
I'm glad I watched this, thanks for covering it! Well done mate.
Thank you so much for watching !
The thing about Warhammer Fantasy I really love is that they take real world inspiration translate it into a vast fantasy setting and turn everything to 11, and total war really let me play and enjoy them all..
Wanna play as fantasy glorified brits, boom high elves
or as psychotic Americans obsessed with their whatever, boom dark elves…
sometimes you fancy china, et voila grand cathay, or a medley of fantasy slavic people, we’ve got kislev for ya…
Roleplaying as Holy Roman Empire ? Sure here is The Empire of Men, or maybe a bit weird undead eastern cousin, gotcha with Vampire Counts…
Fancy a fantasy scandi flick ? We’ve got Norsca and their crazy pillaging culture, but what about the glory of ancient egypt ? Tomb King is right there on the desert.
Hate Egypt and want to Launch a crusade to take back fantasy Jerusalem ? Bretonnian crusader kinda let you do that, or you rather eat croissant and onion soup in feudal France ? Come to mainland Bretonnia, you got to tax your peasants to infinity there lol
What about ancient mid and south american cultures ? We’ve got them lizard people across the great ocean… The Fantasy Spain, Italy, and Portugal ? How about the infamous Border Princes… Middle East you said ? Well because CA kinda being a stingy on giving us Araby, we’ve got Waaghh! of everlasting conflict with the Orcs instead on that part of the world…
Oh you said fantasy India, Japanese and South East Asian mash up ? Well if CA wants to make smart decision, we should get Kingdom of Ind, Kuresh, and Nippon in the future… legend says there are Snake people lurking in the ancient jungle of fantasy Thailand mate.
And at last there are Demons if you fancy them. See what a game with rich lore, thats why I love it
High Elves are Atlanteans. Albion is Britain.
You hit the nail bang on the head, for a period of time warhammer 3 really was struggling quite a lot. Amazing to see you pick up on it!
It’s an unsettling effect to just have dropped on you unexpectedly.
with the beastmen trailer, they seemingly just used the helmets to give the image of heads on spikes without having a higher pg rating, which works very well to me
@8:36 "They" didn't backlight Karl. Sigmar did. :)
These games are dangerous, man. I've easily spent 5000+ hours on all three Warhammer Total War Games.
They're brilliant!
Valkia (the demon lady with the spear and the shield) looking weak in her own damn trailer is actually something a lot of people noticed.
53:11 JACK FUCKING POT - that's a direct rip-off (ok, "inspired") by the old Predator movie :D
54:15 this is the part that has forever sold me on Skaven. I remember watching this trailer when it came out, still love it to this day.
Skulls for the Skull Throne!"
38:30 - That is Malekith, he is a dark elf.
You stayed for the whole thing!? Big respect to you!!
42:02 a very cool detail on the Ratmen "Skaven" trailer is that the bell tolls 13 times, and 13 is their unholy number. Really fun video!
Creative Assembly now: Lets just make a cinematic video with pictures
Creative Assembly then: Lets make a whole movie
Fun Fact the voice of the king dwarf (Thorgrim) is peppa pigs dad
On 1:55:20 Harald Hammerstorm is basically why Warhammer have a hammer on name
The war hammer (which is the series icon and namesake) is Ghal Maraz, Skull Splitter, famed weapon of the legendary founder of the human empire Sigmar Heldenhammer. A dwarven ancestor weapon that he gained after rescuing the then Dwarf King Kurgan Ironbeard from the goblins, he was also given his name Heldenhammer, "Hammer of the Goblins" from that said event.
@@RayvenQdid Ghal Maraz even exist during first edition? Because Harry and his hammer did, they were on the cover
This was awesome to see you react to! It's crazy just how close to my own thoughts on release you were at for almost every trailer
You are absolutely spot on about just about everything, and Warhammer 3 was really struggling for a long time. It’s in a much better place now
I'm sure people already commented plenty about it, but all those factions you saw, if you own them, you can play them in the third game. If you don't own them, you can still fight htem with the ones you do own. (see: The trailer at 1:48:00 )
Technically they're chronologically in reverse order, where the old adviser dies in game 1 and starts his journey in game 3.
As for the blood for the blood god stuff-- Creative Assembly sells blood separately in their games about war and slaughter with a literal blood good in one of them
I gotta say, personally, the Vampirates are still my favourite trailer
almost every time you asked what happened to the quality...
it had just seamlessly switched from cinematic to in-game visuals...
impressive that you didn't notice the moment of transition
41:55
A neat detail about the shaven trailer is that, in lore the number 13 is sacred to them, and there are 13 bell strikes, with the last at the climax towards the end of the trailer.
Like "What if the empire but Spacemarine ?"
That's why each race are the "same" or there are equivalent, that's why EVERY SINGLE GOD are the same.
I have loved these games since the beginning and watching this with the commentary of a filmmaker is very insightful love it!
Thank you so much for watching, I hope it was fun!
YES, I HAVE WAITED FOR THIS!
