  • Welcome back to The Green Yard! It has been almost one year since we planted our Monstera plant outside here in Phoenix. To check out the planting video visit, • Planting a Monstera Ou... . Our Monstera is located in the Tropical Food Forest part of The Green Yard. It is in a well established microclimate that has helped protect it from our colder weather this winter. So far the plant has experienced 30 degrees and is still doing amazing. One of the most noticeable developments in the last year has been the creation of aerial roots. These roots will eventually attach themselves to our large male Mulberry tree that I have been using as a trellis for both this Monstera as well as our red Dragon Fruit. This tree has been pretty neglected since it was planted, only receiving water and fish emulsion. The only damage it has received was actually from our intense summer sun last year. There are several leaves that have sun burn on them but the winter does not seem to affect this plant. If you have any questions about our Monstera or any other plant please comment below. I am growing a similar sized rose apple and I put a tomato cage around it to help encourage upright growth

      Hello @AGardenWithWalls thank you for watching and commenting! That is some great advice for the rose apple. I ended up pruning a flopping branch last spring and I saw tons of new upward growth. I will have to try out the tomato cage.

    Nice garden. But you didn’t even talk about the monstera…. Lol

      Hello @Nopalitoss, thank you for watching and commenting! Yes, I realized I did not talk about the Monstera very much in the video. I'm thinking about putting out another longer update but I did put out a short recently, which you can view here, ruclips.net/user/shortsW9Poe_Ob45E.

    Does it have to be very near the tree ? I put mine but a little bit separated, not a lot, but not very very near

    • @thegreenyardaz
      @thegreenyardaz  4 месяца назад

      Hello @marianabarberena6986, thank you for watching and commenting! That is a great question! Through my research it was mentioned that they like to climb trees, walls, etc. to get more sun. But I have also heard that they do okay as a singular plant without climbing. I have another Monstera that I planted at the same time as this one and it is around 3 feet away from another tree. It is putting out new growth and seems to be happy without climbing a tree. So, from my personal experience it seems that the one closer to the tree is doing better than the one further from the tree. I hope this helps, let me know if you have any other questions.

    you should have tittled this garden update. Next time when you make a video stick to the topic of the video

      Hello @micahb-qb5wi, thank you for watching and commenting! I agree with you, I did make a mistake with this video and spent about half the time talking about other plants instead of the Monstera. I have worked on minimizing this in other videos and sticking to the topic at hand. I do appreciate you offering a suggestion as I did add in "garden update" to the title.

    you talked about EVERY single other plant EXCEPT for the Monstera for 3/4ths of the video. waste of my time

      Hello @wsaploker4267, thank you for watching and commenting! I appreciate your constructive criticism! I went back and watched the video again and you are right, I talk about other plants for just over half the video. I definitely need to talk more about the main plant in the video instead of others.

    After 1 year it only grew that much 😐

    • @thegreenyardaz
      @thegreenyardaz  4 месяца назад

      Hello @MrPsychoZ, thank you for watching and commenting! Yes, they grow somewhat slowly outside here in the Phoenix area. Most of our tropical trees and plants do not like our winter in Phoenix and go into an almost dormant stage with very little growth (especially if uncovered). I'm hoping that it starts to take off and climb more this year!
