I almost never comment on any video, but I have to say THANK YOU for including the V65!! It is an overlooked and forgotten motorcycle. I own one, and am in absolute love with it.
I'm not a cruiser guy because they always look like dogs who have worms and dragging their ass on the floor. The low back makes them look stupid to me. But the V65 is the only one who has a raised back that actually doesn't look too stupid I must say.
I started on a 70 hp XS2 Yamaha that I build into a 763 cc 10:1 sleeper. It looked like a stock XS2 and The stock cam for it was amazing and I filled and ported it added forged pistons and oil cooler 70 hp and most importantly 74 lbs ft of torque! For the time at 46ci it was a beast! Lectron carbs and all I could get Shell Thuet to talk about. It was funny that it looked like a stock XS2 but a bunch of subtle differences….
Had and rode an '82 KZ1000LTD--one of the original power cruisers--for about 15 years. Back then, all the manufactures did was take their typical UJM and put a stepped seat and higher handlebars on, and PRESTO!
I’ve had a Honda vtx1800 and now for almost two years have a Yamaha raider 1900. Was looking for a warrior but ended up with the raider. I love it and really a great looking bike!!! I need a naked 700 tho cuz it sucks in town. Lol
Not into cruisers, but some of the V-rods were pretty cool. When I went to a local dealer to through a leg over entry level sport bikes, they had a used one in show room. Sharp lookin' bike in person.
I owned for four years a 2012 Triumph Thunderbird 1600, a bike introduced in 2009/2010 and discontinued eight or nine years later. Triumph and the media called it a muscle cruiser, and so did we owners, but looking back on it I really don’t know if it fits that descriptor as well as some of the examples in this video. But it was a great bike, even if it was yet ultimately another failure to crack the HD lock on the cruiser market.
Funny you never mentioned the 1984 Honda V65 Sabre 121hp 90ft/lb 10.5 second quarter mile@154mph and 0 to 60 in 3 seconds.. Faster than most still to this day.. Yes I own one ! Cheer's !!
Despite not always digging the vibe of JN I have to take my hat off - constant high quality Footage, informed and on point, and probably the best monologue writing along with FortNine. And in any case a friendly wave to all the Riders here& out there, feels good not to be alone!
I remember riding a 1st gen VMAX over a super twisty mountain road here in NZ, it was hilarious, all wheel spin, fork flex, ground pegs and scary crap brakes.😆
VMax was kind of state of the art in 1985 and even back then no one claimed that it is perfect in the twisties. I remember that the German motorbike magazine in 1985 or 86 exercised a race on a racetrack between the hottest racer back then, the RG500 Gamma and the VMax, which the RG500 won with a blink of an eye only. All in all, even the 1st Gen VMax is not as bad as people always try to tell me. Bikes like the GT750 or the CB750 four had just disappeared from the market when the VMax stepped in. Compared to these Bikes, the VMax was on another level. Some people forget for how long the VMax is on the scene.
The tariff busting Magna was 700cc down from 750. You missed the kawasaki ZL600/900/1000 Eliminators. Very quick in the 0-60 range, but not so much in the 1/4 mile as the engines were "tuned for torque" and really lagged on power in the high revs.
i have a sabre v65 which is the same bike as the magna v65. very fun and old school muscle bike. other riders are astonished on how fast the bike is. another great muscle bike is a Kawasaki ZRX1200r
and price tag - Ducati. That was totally lol! I'm only on the low end of this with an 06 Yamaha Roadliner. I LOVE my high compression, 4 valve, 1854cc Hemi! It is as much as I can deal with at 62 with a bad back. But it sure is fun.
Papa Yam I'm going have to (respectfully of course) disagree with you on the Diavel being released to sway Harley riders, since this bike is capable ripping up twisties and because of its light-weight and lack of chrome. Harley riders are not able to appreciate any of the aforementioned awesomeness.
say what you will, but when you got an built up harley it will have no trouble keeping up with other muscle cruisers, mine personally is a sportster with a Buell engine machined to 1340cc, got cams, bigger valves, ported heads, bigger carb, and 2 into 1 screamin eagle, putting out 120hp and about 100 ft ilbs, plus it was a lot cheaper than a new vmax.
Your off a bit Yammie..., Honda originally had a v45 magna (750ish cc) that got dropped to a 700cc and renamed just magna to skirt the tarrif. There wasn't any way to get around it with the v65... I had a v65 in the late 80's. Sold it when I got sent overseas (USMC). Wish I still had it, probly woulda eventually killed young and stupid me tho, wasn't much that could keep up with those in a straight line...
What about the Yamaha Warrior XV1700 performance cruiser. It had a light weight tube frame, USD forks, triple discs, monoshock read suspension and was nicely styled as a custom chopper. I used to go Harley hunting with mine.
I have an MT-01, don't think the U.S got them, its a modified XV1700 engine in a far more sporty chassis, with suspension and brakes from the same year R1. Mine came with the Yamaha stage 3 tuning kit ( Full Akrapovič exhaust system, velocity stack kit, valve spring set, stronger diaphragm clutch spring, high compression piston kit, high performance camshaft, and high performance ECU) already fitted, its a fun ride.
That picture when you mentioned the street rod while talking about the V Rod, is the underpowered modern namesake. The street rod back then was the V Rod, but with mid controls, and was available in orange and yellow. Then only reason I know this, is because I almost got one. 👉😉👉
I've got an m109r. It's fast enough. Not impressive compared to my gsxr. However this thing is like an old v8. Not impressive on speed alone. But impressive on speed for how much weight it could launch without a lack of performance. The M109R can haul ass the sake 2 up or 1 up. The suspension is best 2 up my 9er has just shot passed 100000km. Still purring.
I cannot believe you left out the Vulcan 2000 that was the highest production engine for years prior to the Rocket 3 but that may be because you tend to shy away from heavy bikes. A shame really.
Ik theres a lot of harley hate here, but i’m building mine to be a “performance” cruiser (yes i put it in quotations cause i know it wont be a sportbike…) throwing a stage 2 at it with ohlins and steel braided lines…gonna be a fun one
What about Honda Rebel 1100 ? There are more powerful cruiser bikes out there, but in this model, 87 horsepower really makes for a lot of power. Awsome bike !
Fact! When you say “China is nearly the size of the US” it infers that it is smaller than the US when it is in FACT much larger. The farthest 2 points in the contiguous US is 4500km where the same measurement in China is 5800km. Great video!
Anyone remember the Suzuki GV1200 Madura?😄 A 1200 V4 cruiser, it came out around 84 ish and was designed to go against the Honda 1100 magna, where Honda advertised the magna as having 116 HP (pffft yeah right😏) Suzuki said the Madura had....117!! take that Honda!🤣🤣
You stepped in it this time, Yammie Noob! Come on, this stuff isn't that hard to get right! The Magna came out as a 750 in 1982, and was called the V45 Magna. Its full name was VF750C V45 Magna. The 1100 cc V65 Magna came out in 1983, as you stated. 1986 was its last model year. It was always an 1100. Because of the tariff, and only in the U.S., the V45 was reduced to 700cc for the 1984 model year, and remained a 700 through 1987. It was called simply the VF700C Magna. In 1988, with the tariff lifted, it returned to 750cc, regained its original full name, and was once again called the V45 Magna.
Is the Indian scout not a muscle cruiser? If it has similar stats as the vrods as you mentioned in the video then I don’t understand why it’s not included on the list. Plz help
The good one was the Honda vf1100, same engine as the v65 Magna but with 121hp and it was like a sports touring. Looked a little funcky. I dont want a motorcycle that gets MPG;s like my Dodge Cargo Caravan or a little worst. But the V65 Magna was butt ugly and the VMAX was way better looking then either V65 Magna or the VF1100. Im still thinking if a good VF1100 ever shows up again ill buy it and sell either my st1300 or my dl1000 Vstrom. VF1100 is so much more fun then either. That st1300 i have is like the sports touring BMW I think like a year 2000, 1000cc - 1200cc some where in there. Ride one some day noob, I cant day for the V65 but the vf1100 that thing was a blast. And it sounded mean as hell.
Why not at least mention the Boss Hoss? I mean, if we talk constantly about really expensive bikes like the Ninja H2, the upper tier od Ducati, then why not the Hoss? It has two wheels and there are quite a few of them. What are the production numbers of the Boss compared to something like the Ninja H2? Maybe it is because it has an American V8 for motivation instead of aneuropean 3 cylinder car engine. Yammie, you profiled several bikes that you do not seem to care for, why not show us why the Boss is such a bad idea (besides the HUGE price tag)?
Because its not a production bike as has been mentioned many times. Its a hand-built craft bike. People have also built bikes with airplane engines and they aren't included for the same reason.
It's hard for me to consider anything that doesn't have a v4 as a "muscle cruiser".....either you know or you dont....96 vmax,85 madura 1200....haven't had the gonda tho
Except Ducati already have a whole 'streetfighter' class, so the Diavel would be more like a sport/cruiser, kind of in the same sense that for eg Kawasaki's ZZR is a sport/tourer, not a dedicated sports or supersport, but not a dedicated tourer either..
I almost never comment on any video, but I have to say THANK YOU for including the V65!! It is an overlooked and forgotten motorcycle. I own one, and am in absolute love with it.
Same with the xs1100. The specials were the original muscle cruiser

Agree with a few others that have already commented that the Suzuki M109 should also be on this list.
yes its pretty sad to miss the bike that built the genre
I’ve had a Honda vtx1800 and now for almost two years have a Yamaha raider 1900. Was looking for a warrior but ended up with the raider. I love it and really a great looking bike!!! I need a naked 700 tho cuz it sucks in town. Lol
If anyone has never ridden a bike with with higher torque than HP, it’s exhilarating, will make you understand light to light pull in a different way.
You forgot about the best muscle cruiser, M109R.
Not into cruisers, but some of the V-rods were pretty cool. When I went to a local dealer to through a leg over entry level sport bikes, they had a used one in show room. Sharp lookin' bike in person.
Love the V Max
I ride a 2005 Yamaha Star Warrior... love it!
02 here
Thanks Yammie, got completely hammered by end of the video 🍻

You stated the 1985 Vmax had 120hp, I assume you meant that as RWHP. Because the hp for 1985 Vmax was rated 145hp.
Definitely not a big cruiser guy, but I have to say the old gen and new gen VMAX look pretty damn sharp
I remember riding a 1st gen VMAX over a super twisty mountain road here in NZ, it was hilarious, all wheel spin, fork flex, ground pegs and scary crap brakes.😆

1600 magna I'm in. Love my 1983 V65. Riding it is truly an experience.
Love my rocket 3 especially when a built Harley pulls up on the interstate.
Vincent Black Shadow was a 1950s muscle bike, 150mph. Rocket 300 TTS Performance 2022, 340bhp, 177mph plus unable to hang on at a higher speed.
What about the Boss Hoss???😄
LoL exactly what's his beef with it
Yam is afraid of the Boss Hoss.
Dukes Of Hazzard?.
@@bryanmathew2079 it's a motorcycle with a v8 car engine.
@@nobodyimportant5978 you miss few v10 and v12 too LoL

So glad u start the video off with a ranking for the bike on riding experiences
what? nothing about the suzuki m109r?
The Rocket 3's engine is NOT transverse. It is longitudinal.
I had a 1983 V65. Great bike. Bring it back!
i have a sabre v65 which is the same bike as the magna v65. very fun and old school muscle bike. other riders are astonished on how fast the bike is. another great muscle bike is a Kawasaki ZRX1200r
I have an 84 sabre v65 it’s an amazing bike
Sabre was a vf1100 not a v65 and that thing was a rush to ride.
But it used a v65 v4 just like the v65 Magna but Had 121hp vs 116 hp for the v65 Magna.
I got a Diavel 1260 and it’s friggin mental. The bike is weird, silly and makes me say rude words loudly when I twist the throttle!
Yammie is great. Love his comedic banter

What I love about my Diavel is the wheelies
I have a 2020 Triumph Rocket 3 GT that a real muscle bike like you said i your video so torquey and powerful i just love it.
Largest stock muscle Bike made. Rode 1 once and incredible, a motorcycle with 4/ 6 cylinders?
just got a 85 vmax so glad to hear it mentioned.
Suzuki M109R a true muscle cruiser
Papa Yam I'm going have to (respectfully of course) disagree with you on the Diavel being released to sway Harley riders, since this bike is capable ripping up twisties and because of its light-weight and lack of chrome. But still less performance than a stock Indian Challenger w a tune. Silly.

My Vulcan Mean Streak is a “muscle cruiser”. It does get down a bit. But there are much faster ones at that timeframe like the Rocker III.
Vulcans will never receive love here. Not even my vn2000. It's a fact we must face.
AWESOME VIDEO GREAT ! ! ! ! ! ! !
Back in 03 I came close to trading my 748 for a V-Rod. It was a fun test drive and didn't come with the Ducati maintenance cost.
You missed the Honda VTX1800.
So mention of the Suzuki M109R B.O.S.S?
The HD Street Rod is not a V-Rod variant. It's a Street 750 with different ergo
Best Muscle Cruiser I ever owned was the 1900cc Yamaha Raider. In a different league to any others I've owned like the Vrod etc

I want a Diavel , but only if 2nd bike.

Actually honda made the magna in 1987-1988 I personally own a 1988 honda magna vf750c deemed the super magna
Did they eat their cams like the VF750F did.
