    I've owned and enjoyed multiple styles of bike, but at the ripe old age of 46, and having a body broken down through time and misuse, comfort is a tremendously important factor in selecting a bike for me. If I'm not comfortable on my 90-minute commutes, I'm not riding.
    Fun fact: For me, as I am now, bending over a tank on a sportbike is not comfortable. Sitting straight up and down, but leaning slightly forward, on a sport-tourer or adventure bike is not comfortable. I need to be able to lean back a bit, stretch my legs out a bit, and not put so much pressure on my lower back or my arms.
    I loved my old SV650S. It was my favorite ride for a while. Even so, after riding from San Diego to Julian and back (including some time on the mountain roads in the area, like Banner Grade), which totaled around three hours of riding, I was so sore (nearly numb) that I didn't want to ride again for a couple days. Later, I did the same ride on the Boulevard C50, and I felt like I could do it all over again immediately.
    Comfort is important, and no bike does "comfort" better than a cruiser, unless you want a full-bore tourer - the Winnebago of bikes .

    I disagree about sport bikes dumping you and cruisers doing nothing if you cracked the throttle too hard. A lot of cruisers make massive torque at low RPM, which means that power comes on instantly when you may not expect it, and you don't have to rev it up into the power band to make things dangerous. this is where number four comes in. Cruisers are specifically designed to have usable power at a very broad RPM range, not tunes for peak power only. Crack the throttle too hard on a torquey. V-Twin, and that back tire might just start spinning

    • @zorgzev96
      @zorgzev96 5 лет назад

    • @davisadams3120
      @davisadams3120 5 лет назад

      Eric Wheeler v twins have most torque at 6k? honestly they are torquey at any point and the comfort aspect isn’t always true when you have an older Harley with a little bit of rake to it not anything major like a chopper but some rake makes it a lil floppy where as sport bikes I imagine are a little bit more agile and snappy imo that makes it easier to feel and ride the bike idk mo

    • @zorgzev96
      @zorgzev96 5 лет назад

      @@davisadams3120 most of the bigger v twins hit peak torque around 3500-4000 rpm. Most sport bikes hit it at 7000-9000 rpm.

    There are more than 2 bike classes, adventure bikes and sports tourers are also popular. Basically people ride what they like and generally don't necesserily care for much of the others. I've never liked riding sports bikes as I don't find them comfortable and I don't want to ride on the edge all the time. I used to enjoy adventure bikes but now I just love large cruisers with comfort and power plus somewhere to stash your stuff. Mine is a 1500cc Honda Valkyrie and sports bike riders regularly slice me up to prove how fast they are but I doubt they will continue riding on from the UK to somewhere like Rome which is one of the places I've ridden to on it. There is no BETTER bike - it depends on what you want to ride and how you like to ride it.

      @@breakingthemasks I loved it, sadly I had a motorcycle accident (4 years ago due to a car hitting me, left me as a paraplegic, if I could, I would ride again). It was great, I used to go for cross country rides every chance I had. The first week I probably had a sore ass but after that I got used to it. Lane Splitting was a little challenging but I technically shouldn't have done it at all as I was on my L's.

    For me the most uncomfortable thing about sport bikes are where your wrists have too much weight on them and your legs are set too far back, creating torture in every joint. I can see this might be "fun" for anyone under 30 years old, but otherwise not. I like pegs forward and bars high, so for me sports bikes are out, quite apart from the fact that since most bikes above 35 hp can out accelerate almost all cars on the road up to the national limit, the only place for powerful sports bikes are the track. I find it astonishing that in some countries a learner biker who just passed a test can go out and buy a 100+ hp bike. Absolutely nuts. Equally, I find most cruisers too low. I think the most comfortable bikes are high bars, cushy seat and upright riding position.

    • @DMurray666
      @DMurray666 5 лет назад

      the naked segment is for the older segment of riders that still want to corner hard...you sit upright have oodles of torque, can do long miles in the saddle, no weight on the wrists and still exciting, not bland and boring like a cruiser. MT09SP or MT10SP are 2 wicked examples, I don't think you guys get the SP's in the states...pretty sad really, you are missing out on a well-rounded missile that is upright and comfortable

    I'm a new rider and I bought a Kawasaki Vulcan 1500 Classic which I love -- its comfortable, yes, has TORQUE, and is pretty. Downsides have been a lot of repairs (its a '98). So I decided to get a second bike while the Vulcan is 'offline' and picked up a Honda Shadow 750 Aero, also a cruiser that I bought at a local dealer. (My son was surprised I didn't get a sport bike for the second one.) I like the comfort of both bikes, and the agility of the 750 compared to heavier 1500; I'm not into speed so much as comfort, and I don't care if I look like an old grandpa -- I'm 59 so I AM old and enjoying the hell out of retirement with two cruisers and my 29' sloop the S/V Mary Louise -- life is pretty awesome.

    Once again, the short version of 5 reasons cruisers are better than sport bikes:
    1. Comfort
    2. Utility (more touring, but you combined them so what the hey)
    3. Sound (the whiney cry of a crotch rocket is hard to listen to once you’ve heard the sweet sweet sound of a well put together cruiser exhaust.
    4. Appearance (sport bikes are ugly. At least when compared to cruisers).
    5. Torque (it’s just more fun than power🤷🏽‍♂️)

    • @mr.b3168
      @mr.b3168 5 лет назад +3

      Torque is more fun in the real world. Yes.
      Fast bikes are only fun in the illegal world.

    Sport bikes are not designed for long rides!
    Sport tourer and Adventure sport bikes are better suited for long distance touring.
    Cruiser bikes such as Harleys are made for American road conditions, straight stretches of smooth highways.
    When it comes to cruiser bikes Honda Gold wing, Suzuki Intruder, Kawasaki Vulcan and Triumph Rocket, and Bonneville are really comfortable and has less vibes.
    For long rides in any roads in Asia, BMW GS1250 KTM1200 adventure, Honda NSX 750, Triumph Tiger are better than pure cruisers.
    Super sport bikes such as Fireblade, Ninja H2 are best on racing tracks.

    If you really want comfort, get a dualsport bike (like the Honda Transalp). You sit upright, in a natural position with your feet right underneath your butt and your arms held in a pretty natural way. Kinda like you sit on horseback. It's no wonder that riders love this sort of bike for really long trips (Long Way Down, anyone?)
    Seriously: Cruisers look comfortable with those big, sofa-like seats and a seating position that *looks* relaxed. But on longer tours, I was always getting desperate to get off my cruiser-bike and stretch myself. On a sports-bike, you're lying down on the bike head-first ... on a cruiser, you're lying down feet-first. Your body weight is spread all over the place, you can't use the pegs to stand up/stretch, and on bikes with more extreme ergonomics, you're forced to sit in a position that makes you look like the Hunchback of Notre Dame. Might look cool, but it feels horrible if you plan on riding longer stretches. Plus it's not a terribly good posture to be able to control the bike with your weight.

    Without the cruiser style of motorcycle a lot of older riders would not be able to ride. The trouble with cruiser bikes is they are so damned HEAVY. I have the lightest one that can be bought a XVS650 V Star and it is still very heavy to move around in my garage. I would like a cruiser style in a lighter motorcycle. The Vulcan 650 S is getting there but it is as ugly as my arse hole. I might be a 66 year old grumpy prick but I am still riding.
