***** Yeah, in Europe its like AM,A1,A2,A which is respectively, 50cc, 125cc (15KW),35KW,any size. I think the 50cc should be dropped cos its fairly useless maybe even the 125cc 15 kw increased to like 250cc 22kw or 300 cc 25 kw or something like that and the A2 to like 50-60 KW cos right now they are kinda pointless, but yea simply i just want them to shift the limit upwards, tho it definitely is helpful to those newer riders

***** Motorcycle deaths/accidents, an example of this: USA motorcycle accidents were around 90000 for 320 million people (about 1 accident every 3500 people) while in the UK it was 6000 accidents for 64 million people (1 accident every 10600 people) (tho this is a very trivial comparison, the number of accidents/deaths in the first year of riding are dramatically lower too)

    • @Real_MisterSir
      @Real_MisterSir 7 лет назад +52

Well our requirements in Europe are harder, but hardly ridiculous. You learn all the basics and you feel safe from day one riding your bike. I took my license over the course of 1 and a half month, paid its cost, and never have to worry about that again. Got safety instructions, know how my bike will handle near its limits, all that good stuff that you otherwise have 50% chance at learning, and 50% chance at it causing you to crash before you get to learn it :)

Great video! I'm 26 and just started on a 600cc. It's amazing, but it's a lot heavier than most people expect and finding hidden sand and gravel is a harrowing experience. I love my 600 and wouldn't have started on anything smaller at my age and driving experience, but for now it's still plenty of power! I almost never leave 2nd gear unless I'm on the interstate. If you commute in traffic, you might not even leave first on some days.
Another big deal is, having a dark visor on your helmet is so freaking sexy! But if you take it out at night with a dark visor instead of a clear visor, it's terrifying! Especially if you're on the highway and there're divots in the road from construction or uneven lanes. Remember to swap visors if you go out anytime near dark.

  • @HeroRR

Great video! I was thinking about making one similar to this one for years. Now it looks like I don't have to! :)
One suggestion though, although it's advantageous to know a manual transmission before hand, it's not even close to being necessary. I learned manual on a bike and without any help from anyone. I just practiced in my back yard and got it within an hour. At my MSF course there were some people who had never used a manual anything and they picked it up pretty quickly, well within the first day. The MSF course is designed to teach people who have limited-no knowledge in all areas of the bike.

Just wanted to throw this out there for all the newbs and taller folks. I’m 6”4’ 180lbs and I have been riding my 2017 Ninja 300 for 3 months now and it’s fucking perfect. It fits me well. I never get sore while riding it. I don’t feel like I’m gonna die every time I ride it. I get to use all the bike’s power whenever I want to. It looks sick and it has an after market carbon fiber exhaust with a mean sound to it. This is my first bike I’ve ever owned and it’s been nothing but fun. When I told experienced riders that I bought a 300 as my first bike all of them were happy for me but I also heard a lotta them say one of two things (usually both):
you’re way too big for that.
Those things are slow as fuck. You’re gonna be bored with it and you won’t be able to ride on highways.
    Wrong and wrong.
I once rode my Ninja for three hours and I didn’t feel sore (I do yoga so maybe my flexibility helps me 🤷‍♂️) Also, I can easily ride on highways. I’ve never felt like it was too slow. Sometimes I need to downshift to pass but I’ve always felt like I’ve had ample power.
Buying a bike was seriously one of the best decisions I’ve ever made and it’s my new passion in life. It’s the first thing I think about doing after work on a sunny day. I’m only at the beginning of my journey but I’m so happy to have tapped into the unexplored realm of bikes. Can’t wait to see where this journey takes me.
Stay safe and have fun out there ✌️

You're right on par with this vid! haha, I was 19 when I did my msf, and bought my new CBR250 with the ABS June of 2014. Got all my gear, rode at night the first hundred miles to get away from traffic, and took off commuting for 2 years :) I did 6000 miles the first 3 months on the little guy, rode all around AZ going to college and doing a bit of touring Tucson and surrounding areas of Phoenix (college was up there) Bought a 2009 R1200GS in late October and put down 21,000 miles in a year and a half. Fantastic bike for any weather and commute style. 12hr days going to Colorado Springs, riding in snow, 117F summers, off road camping for my 21st birthday... had a great time. Had one or 2 close calls all in all. Never a crash or accident but I looked like an ATGATT Power Ranger with reflective tape all over my bikes and hi-viz gear. Always helped.

I've always wanted an R6, but you're right. It makes more sense to start out on an R3 or a ninja 300. Much cheaper to own, and you can really explore the limits before moving up to the 600. I agree that riding a slow machine fast is way more fun than riding a fast machine slow. I don't ride yet, but it's unbelievable fun pushing my First car the Ford Focus and its 130 horses to the limit, so I can relate. I don't know what I'd do if I started with something like the 400 horsepower mustangs. Beginner's skills are much less accessible to learn starting from the top. Thanks for the tips Yams! A twist of the wrist taught me so many valuable riding techniques. That book helped teach me how to ride my 97 katana 750 so fast that i was easily riding local back roads faster than every single honda shadow 750 in no time. Seriously, they didnt stand a chance.
Advice for new riders, I feel like glove choice is really important item that can be easy to overlook. Throttle control can be tricky enough to get right at first, and its a good idea to make sure the gloves feel right to you. The right glove can be the difference between feeling the throttle and being comfortable, or jerking the throttle worse than a 2006 fz1 with the factory fuel map. Personally i prefer a nice thin race style glove that gives me really good feel, but everyone is different! Be safe out there!

For folks who really want to get into sportbikes, I'd suggest not just the Keith Code videos (find them all and watch them) but also the California Superbike School. I'd also recommend a track bike, something you can thrash and crash and not be out more money than you can afford to lose (because you will crash)... and expect gear to cost at a minimum twice as much.

Motorcycle Roadcraft: The Police Rider's Handbook
Cops ride their bikes day in and day out doing everything from high speed traffic stops and chases to responding down twisty roads to extreme low speed riding. It won't teach you how to do dank whoolies or how to shave a couple seconds off your time, but it will teach you what you need to able to become a safer rider where it counts. $15 new on amazon, $18 on kindle
Note, this book is UK oriented. Laws may differ, teachings do not.

The nice thing about a v motor versus an inline motor is that it produces torque down low but not a high-end revline which can get New Riders into trouble. If you want to have a fast Supersport looking bike that's going to be safe for a new person the Interceptor is a great choice

I bought an old JAWA 634, 2 stroke, 350cc..... it's clearly from another era... but I love theese basic old machines, and I understand them. So for me its the best motorcycle ever!
