    the title cards show the fighting styles was probably taken from the film Sweet Charity (1969). the night club scene used the same technique to name the dances being performed...didn't look that good then either.

    Books and paintings are generally the work of a solitary individual, and the likelihood of anyone coming between the artist and his pen or brush is infinitesimally small. Not so with a movie, a group effort which can be sabotaged by many parties along the way. Do you know anything of the history of this particular movie?

    Bad movie. Really bad movie. Got Doc Savage totally wrong. First off, the fighting styles done in this fight scene are completely off. Ron Ely had good training in Karate and Boxing before this movie and it shows, but the Sumo, Bojutsu, Tai Chi, and Gung Fu are nonsense. Secondly, the Doc Savage of the books had Super Strength from years of conditioning since he could walk. Doc would have just picked up Capt. Seas and thrown him across the valley if he wanted to.

    That's true, but I agree, the edit really does wonders. I think the cuts to the other plotlines are still a bit jarring, but the fight looks WORLDS better. I also just watched the newsreel opening. You're really doing a lot to make this farce look like an actual Doc Savage movie. Thank you!

    The Gung Fu, that's Kung Fu in Cantonese, uses "Judo Chops" and the Tai Chichuan (the person in charge of these titles was trying to show off, but botched it) looks like Praying Mantis Kung Fu. Wasn't the double kick at the end from Savate? I thought it was mentioned in one of the "titles".

      It’s a satire of Doc Savage, really, and obviously offensive to true fans. I remember seeing this in 1975 and loving it because I WASN’T a Doc Savage fan. If they had done this to Spidey I would have been livid.

    Since you are 'detarnishing' things, why don't you take a razor blade down to the local library and excise passages out of books you think are tarnished? And maybe you can head down to the local gallery with a brush and can of paint and detarnish some paintings. After all, it isn't the vision of the director that is important, right? I guess it is easier to berate and edit somebody else's work than to actually make your own.

    • @leftcoaster67
      @leftcoaster67 5 лет назад +6

      Some directors tarnish their own (cough..cough..Lucas...). It's a fan of Doc Savage. It's an option to see a less goofy movie. It's not like he's stopping you from watching the original. Relax.
