People say that you shouldn’t take your personal feelings into a review, but I think that’s unavoidable. We all view things through the lense of our feelings. If anything I wish more reviewers admitted to their feelings towards a game.
I agree with you. There´s no such thing as an unbiased review of an art form. The liking of something is subjective and if you like certain types of stuff, it will get difficult to not like more if that something does things that please you relative to other experiences. Anyway, in think is valid his opinion and review because, in reality, there will be people that will love that game because of the first one and that´s the reason we need the most amount of reviews possible of such a thing

What does someone that was maybe a fan of the roguelite genre but never was that into the original think of the game? I think this is something that ought to be discussed.
After 150 hours and hundreds of runs, today i finally beat the hell boss in the original Spelunky. This game is hands down my favorite rogue like and maybe even my favorite platformer. I cannot wait for the sequel!
@@KingPalico In the mines, somewhere between 1-2 and 1-4 you will find a chest with a golden lock and a matching key. Put them together to get this special eye. This eye will start giving a ticking noise and give off small blue signal in a jungle level between 2-1 and 2-3. That means you are close to a secret entrace to the black market. In the black market, either buy or steal the Ahnk. After that in Ice level 3-2 or 3-3 i believe there is a big indestructible blue statue head. In that level die with the Anhk to spawn inside the statue and take the hat that drops on you. In the temple 4-1 kill the anubis figure and take its sceptre and bring it to the locked golden door in 4-2, you will enter the city of gold. In the city of gold there is a cursed book that works kind of like the eye in the sense that it will help locate a new door. If you have it, it will start moving when you're above the door in the Golden boss room. Have the golden head fall in the lava under where the door is and you have found yourself in hell. There are slightly alternate ways of doings things but this is the "easiest".
I feel IGN is doing better with their reviews, with this and Marvel's Avengers and other recent reviews; I tend to see a more sense of honesty behind it.

Incredible review Mr Saltzman. I absolutely loved the original Spelunky and so I'm very excited to get my hands on Spelunky 2. The original is a masterpiece in its own right, so to see the sequel is an improvement in every way, whilst having great new additions, I could not be more excited to play this.
Thats actually kinda bad for the game's popularity Most people are probably going to pick this up on steam. People playing this on PS4 get way less attention because people want to avoid spoilers. That's why this game has been getting low views
@@Sonichronik Very few have. I mean, compared to movies, this is the most entertainment we've gotten. A lot of great games, as well, went unseen. Look at indie gems like Neversong or Among Trees or Spiritfarer. They're all deserving of an A, and yet not a lot of people know about them. There's been the most game jams and the most attended game jams so far this year. And game developers have had the time of their life.
No matter if you win or lose in a run, this game keeps you pumped up. There's soo much that's happening on the screen that you have to always stay vigilant. Its just one of those games that make you want to do just one more run, until you get it right, and that's why I love playing it!
Not just trying to be a fan of the series, but this game’s detail and precision, enhancements, playability, friendliness toward different play styles and runs, management of difficulty hinging largely on your error, and tidbits make it probably my favorite game for this year. It also helps that the art style is cute and the music and sound are stellar. A rare labor of love that manages to stay in my brain so well.

By adding frequent examples (with guided arrows), a deep understanding of what this game offers and listing the ways Mossmouth improved upon the original, you made this a solid review. A full gameplay walkthrough was the icing on the cake. I loved the masterpiece that was Celeste and I think it's time to venture through Spelunky 2. Trust me when i say 3 minutes is plenty. Most of the time you'll have gotten to the next level or died by then. The majority of the time that you don't either you're too cautious or are looking for something in the level.
this is one of those games that you play if you want to enjoy the day and just relax. though it can be a bit challenging, the gameplay is direct and straightforward. no cash shop etc, no boring storylines and cut scenes.

I get why you don't like it and it would of made sense to change that for the sequel but I kinda like the chaos that it brings forcing you guys to stay close together and coordinate.

If this game is anything like Spelunky 1, DO NOT play multiplayer first! I HATE Spelunky, but it's only because the only times I ever got to play it were multiplayer, and I could never make sense of what was happening to get better.
I always find it hard to get into the roguelike genre, even though objectively speaking I think Spelunky 2 got some nice new ideas and graphics to boot.

Spelunky is a game with the best level designs. Like it's rare to see a well-balanced game like Spelunky. I respect Spelunky as an aspiring game developer, and I think a lot of other game developers do love the game. I even almost attempted to steal from them-- but as a jealous artist, you only stare in awe and nod your head, enjoying and getting inspired by the developers of this game. Also 2020 is one of the best years for video games

Spelunky 1 should be THE game for me- its everything i like... except the rushing. That ghost, 3-minute limit simply made me give up what would otherwise have been my favorite game. I like to EXPLORE dammit. If you want me to rush make it a platform runner, not a non-linear maze. Seeing the ghost still here just killed any hope or hype i couldve had for spelunky 2
Honestly, just practice a bit more at it. There's a reason the levels are so small.... you dont need 20 minutes to fully and completely explore a level even in the first game. I usually fully explore every stage (unless there's a section I cant get into, you know, because I dont have ropes/bombs/whatever to get into it) and it's actually pretty rare that I have the ghost spawn at all. I'm not a speedrunner, either.... I'm too methodical and careful for that. I take my time dealing with hazards, I never rush. I also generally dont rob shops, so I'm not rampaging with a perfect build every run (because I get bored doing that). But I can still go over every level completely if I feel like it before the ghost shows up. It seriously just takes some practice and getting used to all of the game's different elements. If you put in the practice, you can definitely explore properly like I can, without having to deal with the ghost.

Trust me when i say 3 minutes is plenty. Most of the time you'll have gotten to the next level or died by then. The majority of the time that you don't either you're too cautious or are looking for something in the level.

I even almost attempted to steal from them-- but as a jealous artist, you only stare in awe and nod your head, enjoying and getting inspired by the developers of this game.

Spelunky 1 should be THE game for me- its everything i like... except the rushing. That ghost, 3-minute limit simply made me give up what would otherwise have been my favorite game.
I like to EXPLORE dammit. If you want me to rush make it a platform runner, not a non-linear maze.
Seeing the ghost still here just killed any hope or hype i couldve had for spelunky 2
Honestly, just practice a bit more at it. There's a reason the levels are so small.... you dont need 20 minutes to fully and completely explore a level even in the first game. I usually fully explore every stage (unless there's a section I cant get into, you know, because I dont have ropes/bombs/whatever to get into it) and it's actually pretty rare that I have the ghost spawn at all. I'm not a speedrunner, either.... I'm too methodical and careful for that. I take my time dealing with hazards, I never rush. I also generally dont rob shops, so I'm not rampaging with a perfect build every run (because I get bored doing that). But I can still go over every level completely if I feel like it before the ghost shows up. It seriously just takes some practice and getting used to all of the game's different elements. If you put in the practice, you can definitely explore properly like I can, without having to deal with the ghost.
