A lovely fella who's absolutely made the most of his talents despite a very difficult start. The woke brigade will hate that he won't pedal the white privilege lie
He’s a pure British gem.
Democracy is white privilege though, stop acting like we’re not in this structurally racist society
Yep, lovely guy, how can you not like him. Makes me smile whenever I see him
@@firsttheycame0211 Well said Mark, couldn't agree more! Cheers.
Fantastic roll model for all people of every race a gentleman x
Kris was a legend when I was a kid, a serious role model. He still is.
@Paul Blackman role models are pretty subjective. If Joel sees Kris as one then that's his business.
@Paul Blackman Nothing to do with him being a sportsman, it is his drive to make something of his life and not fall into the trap that so many do. It could not have been easy for him to join the army when he did and to make his sports career from the back of it needs to be applauded.
@Paul Blackman not sure how you can can blame professional athletes for people ruining their health, what a strange world we live in. I too considered joining the army when I left school, I chose not to in the end, do I regret that decision, yes but I am not doing badly considering leaving a typical 80's comprehensive school with no qualifications to speak of. I could blame my parents for not encouraging or pushing me, I could blame the school teachers, but at the end of the day I was not very academic so it was hard for me, but no one is to blame for that, it's the card I was dealt with.
Can you explain a bit more around the "top level sports, these people force others to ruin their health" very intrigued to understand your thinking on this.
@Paul Blackman What on earth are you on about ? How can being sporty ruin your health 🤷🏻♀️ I’m now 60 and have been a runner since my early 30s, albeit, with a few injuries under my belt, but my health is certainly not ruined. My daughter and her partner cycle, run, surf, swim etc. they’re sports mad athletes and extremely fit and healthy.
@@steve_gooner0014 not to mention get to the rank of Sergeant Major. And everything he's done, he's done with a bloody great attitude. That's what makes him a role model.
Gotta love KA. He’s a great guy and a true British gent, eccentric and icon.
@Alex Awwwright!!!! 🤣
Age hasn't changed him, Kris has always been a great guy with a personality to match.
Respect to you Kris, nothing just happened for you, you worked hard to strive for success, whereas victimhood is today's success.
He was Sergeant in my Regiment
@@glosfishgb6267 what regiment?
@@simontuffs4106 A Pti with 1/Gloster
Good for this guy he's his own man and doesn't play to how a certain group thinks he should be.
Kriss has always been a top bloke
Kriss is just an amazing guy - full of life, charismatic - just makes the world a better place. Could listen to him all night......
Positive and the right mindset, top guy.
Blast from the past! Really good to see Kriss again, a breath of fresh air 😊
A perfect example of achievement, happiness and popularity brought about by his refusal to confirm to the stereotypes dictated to many...by those who would divide and condemn to a life of unhappiness and bitterness.
When I was in Primary school, Kriss visited us on two separate occasions. It was always in the summer and a day or two before sports day if I remember correctly. He was a stand-up bloke and all the kids used to get really excited when we were told he was visiting. That was back in the 90's. Ah man, the nostalgia! What a great decade and what a great sportsman.
He visited our school too, every kid got a photo with him, got mine somewhere in a biscuit tin. Top bloke!
Kriss a national treasure needs his own talk show
What a great idea!
Kris was a great Ambassador for the Military ,. Great style Sir 😉✌️🇬🇧
Akabusi....= Legend....
If ever you feel down just watch hime for 2 minutes...always a smile .
A man who has triumphed over adversity rather than spreading it throughout his community. Top man.
Well said Rob.Cheers.
TWO Solid Gold Bloke`s
What a Man! always liked Kriss
I think we need men like Kris to go into schools and talk to children. He is a man-made good. Well done Kris. Keep up the good work.
ABSOLUTE LEGEND!
Absolute bloody legend
I didn't know he was ex military. What a great framework it provided for him to shine in athletics.
He was sgt in my battalion 1/Gloster he made it to sgt Major wo2 highest rank possible
@@glosfishgb6267 oh wow I didn't know that..
He certainly turned his life around from a young lad
Fair play ..Thanks for your service by the way 👍
@@compostcorner5934 yes 1 of the physical Training Instructers attached to the Battalion from the Royal Army Physical Training Corps
A truly honest man,
Absolute legend......🇬🇧
Love this guy! He would be great for those with mental health! Always makes me 😀. His laugh his contagious just what we need now.
Absolutely right ..I suffer with anxiety but just watching Kriss just now has lifted my spirits.
Top bloke he is 👍
Kris asked a pretty decent army athlete if he could join him on a run ... he said fine - if you can keep up ... Kris kept up - the rest is history
Kriss looks in great shape for 63 years of age, he looks like he's in his 40s, his great enthusiasm must keep him youthful
63?! That's mind blowing isn't it?
Yep he definitely looks way younger ..I'm 61 and I would have put Kriss at about 54
@@compostcorner5934 I honestly would have put him at late 40s or early 50s if I didn't know who he was
I knew he'd been around a long time but had no idea he was competing in 84
National treasure
Amazing guy
Omg the left is gonna tear him apart talking about male role models
Tell fathers to stop abandoning their kids.
@@salaciouscrumb555 Fathers are often not allowed to see their kids. A succession of feminist policies, especially during Tony Blair's government, made Britain very anti-men, against dads and the traditional family.
@@therespectedlex9794 oh please, do stop blaming females for everything that's wrong with fathers. Feminists did nothing, nobody would stop me seeing my child. Weak males love using feminists as an excuse to be non existent daddies.
Want to know a secret, use a condom if you don't want to be a daddy or stop moaning and blaming everyone else.
@Alex right on cue. 🙈
@Alex You've never heard of feminist Labour MPs? Of the late 1990s? Of Harriet Harman and Father's for Justice? I'm not here to give you examples, or to point out the obvious.
Hehe , just imagining a teacher trying to tell Kris to stop running around - hilarious , one of my child hood hero’s growing up - brilliant interview Nigel 👍
It like drinking superior coffee watching Akabusi. Pure energy kick.
Brilliant 😊
A decent, honest interview. He even came back to the personal question about him taking the knee.
He is one of the best black role models in the UK by far? Absolute legend and he's a hammer🤣
He's the sort of bloke you'd love to have a few beers with down the pub.
I couldn't believe my ears when he said he was 63 years old WOW he looks incredible for 63 😎
Time to bring back a two year conscription not just the military but fire brigade, NHS etc.
Give some structure to youngsters 🤔
How was your conscription Paul, did you learn a lot from it?
What an inspiration. Such a contrast to the current victim mentality that is plastered all over tv. Thanks for your service Kris 🙌
Damn good runner. Kris and his team mates in the 80s would be top competitors now.
What a lovely man.
Kriss is a warm and lovely human being, you couldn’t fault the man.
He's before my time but what a character. I like how upbeat he is .
We used to have decent people like Kris on tv, look at the majority of them now. Shame. More Kris please.
This man is so infectious. I remember him anchoring a relay in Vancouver I think, bringing GB the gold. So much passion you can't help being moved seeing him win.
Love Kriss Akabusi's energy, what a positive role model
Fun animated discussion.. cheered me up. Thanks Nigel!
He’s never changed he’s always had that infectious laugh and smiling never full of it just a genuine nice person and was a brilliant athlete 😎
AKABUSI is what humanity is about.great interview Nigel
Strength and honour, what a great laugh he has.
63!? They say black don't crack. Same age as me, Chris looks amazing. Great guy to listen to - full of honest enthusiasm
He's a patriot I've always said it doesn't matter what colour you are to be British/English you just have to own it
a Positive representation to counter-balance ......😉😆 ...
Counter balance what
Kris is a genuine guy. Smarter than you might think and looking good for 63
"If my career depended on it... yep [reluctant]"
How many soccer players are reluctantly kneeling for the sake of their career and no other reason?
Not Wilf Zaha of Palace, but he gets away with it coz he's black, or , he sees thru the bullshit.
So emotional watching that clip. Haven’t seen it since the day itself.
I met Kriss Akabusi when he visited Broughton Middle School in Aylesbury (in 1993 I believe it was). All round proper amazing guy.
What a great thing it is to see Kriss on telly again. Love the man!
Well done GBN 👏👏👏
Kriss Akabusi brilliant guy who overcame his early adversity and triumphed.
I remember Kriss Acabusi representing us in athletics very well. I didn't know he'd served in The Army. Much respect.
Watching Kris he exudes confidence, motivation, joy. Above all a smile on my face. Thank you. Great man.
As a white person, Kriss was, and is, nothing other than a supreme athlete and role model for every young person. He's NOT a black athlete or any other glib personification. He's simply a great British icon. The man makes me cry with his life recollections and attitude. Society needs more like him. Isn't it peculiar he's not more prominent? Is it because he doesn't conform to the victim narrative?
Self made man.
What a lovely guy I could listen to him all day
Not laughing at you, laughing towards you.
A pleasure to see Chris who still hasn't lost his 'sparkle'..
Always just FULL of life...it’s great that he has done so well..and he gets pleasure from helping others too...oh..and making them smile...a living legend
Kriss is a legend, love his contagious enthusiasm for laughter and life 👍
What a man
Loved athletics at that time and still do, one of the reasons is this man!
Kriss Akabusi.. absolute legend. Will never forget that last leg in 1991 4x4 relay last leg where he ran down the world champ to take gold for the UK
a regular rewatch for me, amazing moment in British athletics
Top man, some people could learn alot from him.
What a brilliant interview Chris is infectious, fair play to him just brilliant.
Kriss Akabusi, a class act through and through!
"One going home to mama" had me in stitches
Love this guy he was a great role model growing up watching athletics
I think MrsT made a huge difference to the also ran attitude of the '70's in GB.
Akabussi is still a star.
90% of men in prison grew up without a positive male role in their lives.
He came from a children's home and sought security in the army, from there he prospered. Says something I think.
Thats why a huge proportion of them are black.
I remember Kris running up Gun Hill almost parallel to the ground. I was training for a BFT and he ran so fast just doing hill reps. Now on the odd occasion I am in Aldershot I smile. Those times in the early 1990’s were so fabulous for UK Athletics. A wonderful man with a big great heart.
Gotta love Kris, his energy is so addictive, I used to think he was a bit crazy but he's just high on life, I love that.
Lol, but we all remember him and with real affection! He is a legend in my book!
Love this man and what a great guest he makes
This man has the most infectious laugh and personality, if only kids of today would look at this man right here, and take a leaf or two out of his book.
An absolute joy of a man and he should be an advocate for kids of today in how to do things right.
Kriss, after watching this interview I have a smile on my face, thank you for bringing such honesty, and truth to this conversation. You are an inspiration to all the kids out there who think life has nothing to offer them but crime, if they listen to you, they will know there is a hell of a lot out there if they work hard. Well done to you sir.
The only thing I disagree on, is Bozza, I'll end it there.
Fantastic, lovely bloke.
When he said he carried that medal everywhere I said out loud “good on you mate”.
National treasure.
The most likeable British sports person one could meet. Now that he seems to agree with the evil Nigel Farage the woke brigade will probable attacked him. The Farage interviews are the best as he gives people the chance to speak and invites people from all side of the political spectrum.
I have been quite sick these last few days and this guy has really turned my optimism back on.
Nice guy..good Brit : )
Don't agree with alot of what agabusi said - but I would listen to this one hundred times just to hear that amazing laughter!
One of our true legends.
2 lovely guys.
I love Kriss. Proper old school bloke with morals. West Ham fan as well 🇬🇧🏴⚒
The British Army made me too, Kris. I was a very different person before I served. They made me a useful and functioning human being. I learned how to be a man that didn't need to be violent to influence my life. I am eternally grateful to my N.C.O's. Especially Cprl Bell and Sergeant Prangell.
Your attitude proves you were well worth the effort, good on you, cheers.
Kris your a legend 👍
He’s has the most infectious laugh I’ve every heard, I crease up every time as soon a he starts…. Adore him 😂😂😂 ❤️
Brilliant, just brilliant.
Always loved Chris. Such a bright fun personality.
I met this man a few times through my job. Great guy.
Brilliant Guy👍
Kris has looked the same since I was a kid....
What a pleasure to hear from a genuine success.
What a guy and a genuine person worked hard and what a winner 🏆
Great to hear fron Kris as a man rather than the TV caricature. What a truly inspiring bloke, and I mean inspiring through substance. Good health Kris.
allways liked that kriss
An amazing role model and super guy!
A real British success story.
Iv always liked Kriss A .
His energy and enthusiasm is infectious, and he seems like a real nice bloke ..
He is the sort of guy you'd want to have a beer with
