    Love your tips on jewelry making. I have 2 questions. 1. Do you glue your layers together or just let them hang loose? 2. Could you do a video on how to put together the double holed earrings? What size "O" ring do you use and the trick to get them together. Thank you.

    • @AmyRomeu
      @AmyRomeu  4 года назад +4

      Hi, thanks for your comment! If the layers are thin and the same size and I’m trying to make the earrings thicker, then I will glue them together. If the layers are staggered sizes, I like them to gang loosely. I will cut those from thicker leather. And yes, I can make a video for you about that! :)

    • @AmyRomeu
      @AmyRomeu  3 года назад

      Hi, Denise! Thanks for your question! Yes, when cutting faux leather, you don't want the star wheels rolling over the material and making impressions in the faux leather, so you want to move them out of the way.

  • @pamh6014
    @pamh6014 3 года назад +2

    I tried making a pair of faux leather earrings using the pebbled leather. I added the iron on vinyl to the back side. But the heat made the pebble design on the front disappear on part of the earring. As if it melted it? I don't really know what happened. The earring looks fine until you look at it closely and see that part of the pebbles are missing. What did I do wrong? I use a regular iron. I love your videos!

    • @AmyRomeu
      @AmyRomeu  3 года назад

      Hi, Pam! Sounds like a little too much heat and maybe too much pressure. Iron-on over faux leather doesn’t need the same high heat and pressure that vinyl on a shirt does. I would reduce the temp and also press firmly but not hard for about 5 seconds at a time. Let me know if that helps! I’ve done that myself so I understand! :)

      Hi, Stephanie! Thanks for your comment! I would probably use E6000 or something less smelly like Bearly Art Glue. Try to spread the glue as evenly as possible and get it close to the edge but not all the way. Be sure to put the glued pieces under something heavy like a book for several hours, overnight is best. • @AmyRomeu

      Hi, Hailee! My mats get some cuts in them, it happens, as long as they aren't too deep it shouldn't be a problem long term. You may want to go back to using Default pressure and then repeating the cut by pressing the C button before you unload the mat. You can also play around with creating a custom material setting with less pressure. Let me know if you want some more info on how to do that. :)

    Do you have any trouble with the d-ring hole breaking? I made a pair of earrings and the wind caused the faux leather to rip. I was thinking of adding iron on or vinyl to the back before I cut?

    • @AmyRomeu
      @AmyRomeu  2 года назад

      Hi, Megan! Yes, adding iron or vinyl will help making the earrings sturdier. Also, you can adjust the earring hole yourself in Cricut Design Space and move it further away from the edge as another tip. I have a video on how to do this here: ruclips.net/video/iu9nutN7Vzw/видео.html

    • @AmyRomeu

      Hi, Jessica! It depends on the design. Designs that have text, or something else that needs to be seen a certain way, should be mirrored. If they are just shapes, then they don't need to be mirrored.

    Hi Amy - I just cut my first set of earrings and there were sticky residue from the mat on the front of the faux leather. Any tips on how to prevent that or clean it? Thanks - Mao

    • @AmyRomeu
      @AmyRomeu  3 года назад +1

      Hi, Mao! Thanks for your message. I have never heard of that happening until the first time earlier this week. I'm so puzzled as to what could be causing it! Is your purple mat brand new? Is it the Cricut brand, or something else? But one thing you can do until the mat becomes less sticky is apply clear transfer tape down to the mat first, sticky side up, and then press the faux leather onto the transfer tape. I do this when I cut chunky glitter sheets to protect my mats from glitter residue, and it may help you in this instance as well. Let me know how it goes. :)

    Do you ever use faux leather that is not the Cricut brand? Do you think the Cricut can cut an intricate 3-D mandala patterns?

    • @AmyRomeu
      @AmyRomeu  3 года назад

      Hi, Jan! I use faux leather that is not Cricut brand all the time. In each of my tutorials I link to the exact material I used - usually the faux leather is from Etsy or Amazon.
      That being said, if you wanted to cut a mandala pattern from faux leather, using Cricut brand would be my suggestion. It is thin and dense, so it makes intricate cuts better than other materials.
      I did a snowflake earring design last year with a delicate scalloped edge, and Cricut brand faux leather was the only material that would make the cut cleanly. You can see the snowflake design on my blog here: amyromeu.com/diy-snowflake-earrings-cricut/
      Another idea is to cut the mandala from foil iron-on or heat transfer iron on and press it on a faux leather base. That way you get the intricate design but you don't have to struggle cutting it from faux leather. Here's an example from my blog of a more intricate design cut from foil iron-on and then pressed onto faux leather: amyromeu.com/diy-cricut-boho-faux-leather-teardrop-earrings/
