Why is it not possible just to create multiple users on one ledger live app running on one compuiter? E.g. similar as users on Windows account? It would make it much more comfortable.

Hey there - in this instance, the two devices actually have two different seed phrases set up for them. So the ETH account is secured by one set of 24 words while the BTC account is secured by another set of 24 words.
Of course, you may also use one of the Nanos as a back up. In that case, both accounts are secured by the same 24 words.

    • @Ledger

Hello, you would not be able to do that, Ledger Live is a visual interface, if you set it up with multiple devices it will show the combination total of every account you added on this Ledger Live regardless if the devices are set up individually
This because Ledger Live doesn't have local storage and your funds are not on it, it just shows you visually what this device holds and the tokens you can access
The best solution we can think of now if maybe use a separate mobile or PC, each has access to view their own respective nano device accounts
But we truly understand your point and will raise this to the dedicated team

WTF!! so i deleted an app on the Nano S and reinstalled the BTC on the Nano S just to see if I could utilize the Nano S to make a transfer... and YES the Nano S worked.

Why does he show Nano S and Nano X in example, is because (I am guessing) a lot of people started with S and NOW have X, and are sharing their S with another family member or friend. Hey - if you're using two multiple Ledger devices with two different recovery phrases then you can surely manage your accounts in single Ledger Live app installation. However, there is no way to separate them. Ledger Live will show you all accounts linked to both devices when connecting.
However, there is a workaround that we can suggest you that'll be useful to you. You can create a new user account in your computer > install Ledger Live on both user accounts > and then use different device for each account. This way you can keep your portfolios separate.

I was wondering when I plug in Nano X I just want to keep it separete from Nano S device and portfolio. This is only possible to create new account for your entire system Windows/Mac and then you can operate with Ledger Live APP. What A Shame. Hopefully they will update the app so you can just switch your account in the app as you switch and connect your devices. User unfriendly.
Question: Is Nano X black of such a poor made as Coloured ones ? Brand new device and the noise is like an old chair . Nano S is more durable made. Really Dissapointing.

Does not work. I have a Nano X and Nano S. Connect Nano S, all accounts are labeled with Nano S in the title. Disconnect Nano S, connect Nano X, restart ledger live, and the only accounts shown by Ledger Live are Nano S accounts. I suggest you determine why this does not work and re-record this video, especially if you work for Ledger. - Ahhh - I see, all accounts are always displayed in Ledger Live, even if the device is not connected. So you have to include the device name when you name the account in order to distinguish between an account on one device vs. accounts on the other. So it can be done. The issue is this is not a very user friendly interface IMHO. If you want non-technical people to join in the crypto revolution, you need to make these apps easier to use. If a user does not identify the device in the account name, how are they to figure out later that a specific account is for a specific device? There should be something like a higher level folder/container in the interface - a folder/container for each device, and the accounts for that device should be added to that folder/container automatically when it is connected. Since the software can obviously detect which device is connected, there should be an indicator in the software to show that those accounts are accessible (for Send at least which requires device confirmation). For Receive any account can be used as the user does not need to provide device confirmation. You guys need a User Interface engineer that knows what they are doing that is independent from the implementation engineers who apparently are not very good at user interface design.

Hey, indeed you can connect multiple Ledger device to Ledger Live's interface, the trick is to name the accounts correctly to avoid an error message, more details here 👇🏻

Doesn't work because the software is garbage. I've wasted days trying access a second ledger and just when I think I got it to work, it can't read my accounts.

And uninstall > Reinstall doesn't even wipe the settings... 3 years later and this app is still a joke.

You got two options here. To manage two separated accounts in Ledger devices in one Ledger Live you either need to add the accounts and name them differently or you can create a second user account on your computer and manage different Ledger device with each user account.

hi there, thx for sharing it was very clear. however, i was unable to set-up my 2nd ledger on ledger live. i have been using my nano s with no probs. decided to use a recently purchased nano x to get as many alts of my cex as possible. the nano x is setup with seed phrase and device pin. i plugged it in and ledger live recognised it. under the PORTFOLIO tab, it said a firmware update for 2.42.0 was available, so i clicked update. it said 100% complete, but continued to poll with "downloading update" indefinitely. i closed the app, tried again but same problem.
under the MANAGER tab i was able to connect to the nano x and I successfully installed a bunch of tokens. i was able to see them all on my nano x. Ledger live had all the apps with a green tick and installed. however, when i tried to add an account for one of them eg DOT, it asked me to confirm on my nano x which i did and it read "Polkadot ready" BUT on ledger live, i got APP UPDATE REQUIRED -uninstall and re-install app in manager. RETRY. i did this several times with same result?
any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
UPDATE: I tried the process for a different app COSMOS, but this time got a different error while trying to sync " Sorry Try again the server could not handle your request - try again later or contact ledger support.
i found in a forum instructions to manually re-install by running the ledger live .exe from the official website, i did this ok, but now instead of saying 2.42.0 is available, in a new gui and after i updated the nano x firmware, it says update firmware 2.0.2 available. i did this successfully, but it keeps coming up?? and i cant add any accounts as it says, "App update required" - i keep going round in circles - this is not very user friendly :(

Hi, We're glad to know that you liked our video. Congratulations on your new Ledger Nano X!! It can be a little confusing at times but don't worry we'll guide you through it. In your case, the Ledger Live Desktop application installed on your PC was outdated hence it showed you the pop-up to update the Ledger Live app from version 2.42.0, not the firmware version as explained here (support.ledger.com/hc/en-us/articles/4410960111889-Update-Ledger-Live-?docs=true).
When you have the outdated version of the Ledger Live app, it does not show you the latest firmware version for your Ledger hardware device and hence the apps installed on your Ledger device are outdated.
Based on the information provided, now you have successfully installed the latest version (2.43.1) of the Ledger Live Desktop application. The pop-up that is shown to you is an update of the firmware of your Ledger Nano X to the latest version 2.0.2 as explained here (support.ledger.com/hc/en-us/articles/360013349800-Update-Ledger-Nano-X-firmware?docs=true). Please update the firmware of your Ledger Nano X, then go to the 'Manager' section of Ledger Live and update all the installed apps (Cosmos, Polkadot, etc) as explained here (support.ledger.com/hc/en-us/articles/4404382258961-Install-uninstall-and-update-apps?docs=true). Once all the apps on your Ledger device are updated, you should not face any issue with the transactions.
Please make sure you have your 24-word Recovery phrase accessible as a precaution before updating the firmware of your Ledger device.
It is also possible that the firmware and the apps on your Ledger Nano S are not updated. You can follow this guide (support.ledger.com/hc/en-us/articles/360002731113-Update-Ledger-Nano-S-firmware?docs=true) to update the firmware of your Ledger Nano S to the latest version 2.1.0 and the update the apps.
If the issue persists, please submit a request with the "Help" button on this page -support.ledger.com/hc/en-us/articles/4423020306705-Contact-Us?support=true and share your case number here.

How about having Bitcoin accounts on each Ledger? Can you manage them together in Ledger Live ?
