Hey there, given your situation, where you've lost access to your 24-word recovery phrase and are unable to view the screen of your old Ledger Nano S, the path forward is quite limited but there are steps you can take to attempt to regain access to your crypto assets. There are some tutorials online you can find by searching, but this would be your adventure to do it. Ultimately, as long as you have your 24 words recovery phrase back in your home country, then there is no risk, worst case scenario, it would be worth it to visit home and try to find the 24 words yourself, and make sure to have it with you, since self custody comes with self security, and no one has your 24 words besides the one who wrote it down during it's set-up, which is you. Hello, you can find the steps below! 1. Unstake and send all your coins and tokens to temporary accounts. 2. Enter 3 wrong PIN-codes to reset your device to factory settings. 3. Set up as a new device with new 24 words 4. Add new accounts in Ledger Live. 5. Receive your assets. We hope this helps. Let us know if you've more questions for us.
Hi 👋 when you create your accounts with your Ledger device, all the private and public keys for these accounts are derived from the master key that is your 24 words recovery phrase. So even if you lose or break your Ledger device, your 24 words will help you recover your account on another hardware wallet. More info here 👇🏻 www.ledger.com/academy/crypto/what-is-a-recovery-phrase

He, i got a problem i bought a new Ledger and i used by excedent the old Ledger adress to deposit some MATIC, now it's in my old ledger that i have but i thought i did not know the pincode and phrases anymore so i totally reset the ledger. Now i found out that in the new data is no funds of MATIC (because that is probaly in the old login) now i have found the old pincode but because it's been reset it does not work anymore. Were in the heck is this MATIC transaction? And is there any chance i can get it back somehow? It's deposit from bitvavo a Dutch exchange, and of course i got all the transaction details. Thanks for your reaction, that could be really helpfull. Many thanks.
Hi, as it turns out that your 24 words seed phrase gives you access to your accounts. Since your Ledger device got reset and you do not have your old seed phrase it will not be possible to restore access to your accounts linked to your old seed phrase. We hope this helps clarify.
New laptop. Downloaded ledger app, connected device, tried three times pin number failed. Tried using recovery phrase twice said invalid on nano x device and always getting message on laptop not connected with ledger offering troubleshooting advice. Tried different cables, ports, turned off firewalls and vpn to no avail. Any advice appreciated. Can i set up as new device and regain my property in ledger or should i keep trying to recovery phrase after creating new pin number?
Thanks for the question, yes you should also remove compromised or "lost" accounts from 3rd party wallets, each wallet has their own method for removing accounts that should be described in their documentation. It's usually no more than a few clicks and won't require using your Ledger device. Hope this helps!
Thanks for the question - yes you can but you'll need to unstake your funds first, transfer your funds to your Ledger wallet, then re-stake from there. This article lists all "stakeable" coins supported in Ledger Live: support.ledger.com/hc/en-us/articles/5961622776861-Staking-crypto-with-Ledger-Live?support=true Hope this helps, Thanks!
Are you saying that you can use the Ledger go back on and then re-stake? This would be a good sales point that your website and videos don't talk about a very big sales point many of us thought once you put it on Ledger it's just cold storage and you're not going to be able to state, but if you're saying you can stake please tell more this should be home video
I set up my nano s plus on my samsung s10. I now want to also set it up on my laptop so that i can use both devices. Do i just follow the procedure for restore? And enter the same seed phrase?
Hi, you do not need to enter your seed phrase to set up Ledger Live on your computer. You just need to download Ledger Live from our website here 👉🏻 www.ledger.com/ledger-live and set it up using the instructions mentioned here 👉🏻 support.ledger.com/hc/en-us/articles/360014053240-Use-Ledger-Live-on-multiple-devices?docs=true we hope this helps.
Does that also mean that if somebody had a custody of your ledger device, s/he could just do the same (reset) and then took the permanent custody of your ledger account?
Hey Hoa - no, your crypto is tied to your recovery phrase. Anyone getting access to your recovery phrase could clone your private keys on their own Ledger device or any crypto wallet, access your accounts and steal your funds. If someone were to get a hold of your Ledger device the following will happen: 1- If they know your PIN code, they'll be able to access your accounts 2- If they don't know your PIN code, they can try 3 guesses after which the device will reset and "forget" your private keys This is why having a strong PIN is just as important as keeping your recovery phrase safe. So you see, while you only need someone's recovery phrase to steal their funds, just having their Ledger device will not be enough to access their crypto provided their device is locked with a strong PIN. I hope this makes sense but let us know if you have any other questions, Thanks!
@@Ledger Thank you for your quick response. What you meant is that if somebody got hold of my device, they could reset it and use it but couldn't access or 'see' my accounts there? I guessed so but just want to make sure. Thanks.
Hey! If someone got hold of your Ledger device, they wouldn't be able to do anything with it unless they also had the seed phrase. The device will wipe itself after 3 incorrect PIN code entries, so they wouldn't be able to get into the device. Someone else would only be able to access your accounts if they got hold of your seed phrase!
Can i simply go to settings in ledger live mobile app, select help, select reset ledger live then input 3 incorrect pin attempts? Or is it critical to manually delete each account before completing the steps mentioned in your video? Thanks
@@Ledger sorry, my problem not that i lost my recovery phrase. My problem is that i used my recovery phrase to import my ledger accounts to Trust wallet (a hot wallet), although trust wallet has encrytpion, i am worried that my private key is was briefly exposed online in the soft wallet application. Should i create a new private key for ledger or am i being too paranoid about online security?
Yes you should, once your seed phrase is displayed online you risk that an attacker has access to your seed phrase. When entering your seed phrase in a hot wallet, you defeat the purpose of a Ledger device. Therefore, it is crucial to change the seed phrase
Hey Jay - yes, if you still have access to your Nano S and PIN code, you should definitely create new accounts with your new device and transfer the funds over to your new accounts as soon as possible. Once the funds are safe in the new accounts which you have the recovery phrase for, you can: 1- Remove the old accounts from Ledger Live 2- Reset the old device 3- Type your new recovery phrase into your old device This way you'll now have a backup device becaus both devices now held the private keys to your new accounts. Does that make sense?
@@Ledger yes but if I have to log in on a new laptop that I haven’t set up the ledger live will I still be able log in on my old nano s without the back up phrase or will they ask for it
@@jaycole3807 Hey Jay, thanks for your reply - Ledger Live by itself cannot move the funds from your old account, for that you need the old device and the PIN that secures it Your old device doesn't care if it's being connected to Ledger Live running on your old or new computer it can connect to Ledger Live on any computer. What's important to keep track of is: do i have the recovery phrase that secures my accounts. In your case, the answer seems to be no. This means that the only copy of the private keys that secure your account is held into your old device. If you ever lose access to that device, your funds will be lost This is why it's super important to move your funds out of the accounts secured by your lost recovery phrase, create a new recovery phrase with new accounts and send the funds back to these accounts you now have a backup for. Does this make more sense :)
Hey, great question - yes seed phrase, recovery phrase and secret recovery phrase all refer to the same thing. The terminology varies depending on the wallet, which can be confusing. But at the core, these phrases are "human-readable" private keys that you need to keep secret at all costs This article can help: support.ledger.com/hc/en-us/articles/360005514233-How-to-keep-my-24-word-recovery-phrase-and-PIN-code-safe-?docs=true Hope this answers your question!
Can you do a video showing us how to send crypto from one ledger nano x to another nano x (both in my possesion) . Im sure its easy but Im terrified to do it wrong. I would like to send some crypto stored on my nano over to another one I own so I can give it to my son. I also bought some crypto for another family member and they just bought their own nano x and I need to send them their crypto. My family was too afraid to buy it so they gave me the money to buy theirs and now I need to give it to them. If that makes sense.
@@PHEE_5 I wouldn't imagine that you would you just need the other ledger's address. Perhaps copy them to a word/notepad and make a note which is which. When you copy the address in double check it's correct. Good advice prev to send a small amount first
Sure - basically the security of your Ledger accounts hinges on your recovery phrase because the recovery phrase represents all your private keys. If someone ever gets a hold of your recovery phrase they'll be able to clone your private keys onto their own wallet, access your accounts and steal your funds. The problem with storing your phrase digitally is that you cannot know who has, had or will get access to that copy. This is why we recommend to never create a digital copy of your phrase, it's not worth the risk especially if you're planning on storing your life savings into your Ledger accounts. More on how to protect your phrase here: support.ledger.com/hc/en-us/articles/360005514233-How-to-keep-my-24-word-recovery-phrase-and-PIN-code-safe-?docs=true Hope this answers your question!
@@theonlyandone7301, I prefer the digital way because I have nowhere to physically secure them. I set up a multi layer encryption though. Anyway, that is not life savings, so no worries and thanks for advices
Hey, if you restore from your 24 words recovery phrase on a new device, then you are restoring your XRP account, meaning the locked reserves there as well! Everything tied to the 24 words will remain, they are on the blockchain, protected by 24 words which were generated by your device. All tokens, NFTs, Stakings etc will be recovered We hope this reassures you!
WRONG! You are so wrong. In a perfect world YES you would need to send your crypto to an exchange reset your ledge then send crypto back. Thats in a perfect world. But here is the problem. If a new software update comes out or a new firmware is released YOUR SCREWED. Because you wont be able to get any balances until you either, update the software or update the firmware or both. And until you do that, you wont get balances. Now if you go ahead and update the firmware and its been 1yr 2yrs or longer since you last logged in you will find that your entire device will be wiped clean. And since you dont have your recovery phrase your screwed. THIS IS HOW I LOST 10K in BTC from 2017 and when i looked at my Nano S again in 2020 i was forced to do software and firmware updates. I could not see any balances i could not find my recovery phrase and i went ahead and update the software and firmware and POOF! Lost everything. Iv been looking for my recovery phrase now for 6yrs. My 10K is now worth 44K

Unfortunately i share my 24 phrases with my friend and he has stoleny assets ... What should i do to change my 24 words?
Hello, you can find the steps below!
1. Unstake and send all your coins and tokens to temporary accounts.
2. Enter 3 wrong PIN-codes to reset your device to factory settings.
3. Set up as a new device with new 24 words
4. Add new accounts in Ledger Live.
5. Receive your assets.
We hope this helps. Let us know if you've more questions for us.
Is it necessary to send coins to another account if I just want to change the recovery phrase?
how is it possible 24 words (seed phrase) can recover 100+ Crypto portfolio ?
Hi 👋 when you create your accounts with your Ledger device, all the private and public keys for these accounts are derived from the master key that is your 24 words recovery phrase. So even if you lose or break your Ledger device, your 24 words will help you recover your account on another hardware wallet. More info here 👇🏻

Can u please ad LUNC so i can transfer mine on the ledger !!?
Hey there, $LUNC is already supported on the device but not on Ledger Live. This means you can safely connect your Ledger device to a third-party app like Terra Station to create a Ledger Terra Classic account

Can i set up as new device and regain my property in ledger or should i keep trying to recovery phrase after creating new pin number?
same here but most content creators do not answer to old videos
Hi. At 5.00 you mention that we have to delete the accounts from the ledger. Should we do something with the third party accounts?
Thanks for the question, yes you should also remove compromised or "lost" accounts from 3rd party wallets, each wallet has their own method for removing accounts that should be described in their documentation. It's usually no more than a few clicks and won't require using your Ledger device.
Hope this helps!

If you are staking on the exchanges. Can you still transfer to the ledger ?
Thanks for the question - yes you can but you'll need to unstake your funds first, transfer your funds to your Ledger wallet, then re-stake from there.
This article lists all "stakeable" coins supported in Ledger Live:

Are you saying that you can use the Ledger go back on and then re-stake? This would be a good sales point that your website and videos don't talk about a very big sales point many of us thought once you put it on Ledger it's just cold storage and you're not going to be able to state, but if you're saying you can stake please tell more this should be home video
Can you send crypto on the ledger live phone app without having the ledger device with you?
No you can't. You need your Ledger to sign the transaction!
If someone were to get a hold of your Ledger device the following will happen:
1- If they know your PIN code, they'll be able to access your accounts
2- If they don't know your PIN code, they can try 3 guesses after which the device will reset and "forget" your private keys
This is why having a strong PIN is just as important as keeping your recovery phrase safe.
So you see, while you only need someone's recovery phrase to steal their funds, just having their Ledger device will not be enough to access their crypto provided their device is locked with a strong PIN.
I hope this makes sense but let us know if you have any other questions,
Thanks!
@@Ledger Thank you for your confirmation.
Of course - happy to help!

hey, I have the same issue like yours, have you fixed your problem yet?
Can i simply go to settings in ledger live mobile app, select help, select reset ledger live then input 3 incorrect pin attempts? Or is it critical to manually delete each account before completing the steps mentioned in your video? Thanks
Hi, we didn't get your question correctly, could you please provide a bit more information about your query?
If lost 24 word recovery phrase but still have the nano s device with password can I log in on new device to transfer funds to other wallet
Hey Jay - yes, if you still have access to your Nano S and PIN code, you should definitely create new accounts with your new device and transfer the funds over to your new accounts as soon as possible.
Once the funds are safe in the new accounts which you have the recovery phrase for, you can:
1- Remove the old accounts from Ledger Live
2- Reset the old device
3- Type your new recovery phrase into your old device
This way you'll now have a backup device becaus both devices now held the private keys to your new accounts.
Does that make sense?
@@Ledger yes but if I have to log in on a new laptop that I haven’t set up the ledger live will I still be able log in on my old nano s without the back up phrase or will they ask for it
@@jaycole3807 Hey Jay, thanks for your reply - Ledger Live by itself cannot move the funds from your old account, for that you need the old device and the PIN that secures it
Your old device doesn't care if it's being connected to Ledger Live running on your old or new computer it can connect to Ledger Live on any computer.
What's important to keep track of is: do i have the recovery phrase that secures my accounts.
In your case, the answer seems to be no. This means that the only copy of the private keys that secure your account is held into your old device. If you ever lose access to that device, your funds will be lost
This is why it's super important to move your funds out of the accounts secured by your lost recovery phrase, create a new recovery phrase with new accounts and send the funds back to these accounts you now have a backup for.
Does this make more sense :)
Is “SEED phrase” the same as 24 word phrase?
I have heard people use that term.
Hey, great question - yes seed phrase, recovery phrase and secret recovery phrase all refer to the same thing.
The terminology varies depending on the wallet, which can be confusing. But at the core, these phrases are "human-readable" private keys that you need to keep secret at all costs

You would just send from the one address to the other, like you do when transferring between accounts
If you are scared to make a transaction then do a very small amount as a test
@@samanthaosborne1039 oh ok. So I dont need both ledgers plugged in at the same time?
@@peedot39 I will for sure!
@@PHEE_5 I wouldn't imagine that you would you just need the other ledger's address. Perhaps copy them to a word/notepad and make a note which is which. When you copy the address in double check it's correct. Good advice prev to send a small amount first
Hey,
Can you explain the problematic of digitally storing the passphrase
I know you disagree with it but I just feel it more secure to my case.
More on how to protect your phrase here:

@@theonlyandone7301,

If you do this with Xrp, will you lose your reserve Xrp from the first account?
Hey, if you restore from your 24 words recovery phrase on a new device, then you are restoring your XRP account, meaning the locked reserves there as well!
Everything tied to the 24 words will remain, they are on the blockchain, protected by 24 words which were generated by your device.
All tokens, NFTs, Stakings etc will be recovered
We hope this reassures you!

Man, this sucks. I hope you find it.
