This is really closer to 1974 as it is January 75, Hotter Than Hell tour. I am on disability so can't donate. You really should check out 3 shows (as a fan since 1976 at age 3 , Gene calls me Queen of the KISS ARMY Trans Division, as you see on my vids I am an old school metal Tgurl. ) I hate Peter Criss with a passion. I love ALL ERA's of KISS. In January 75, they had a cult follow that was a bit bigger than you would think. True story, don't give a fuck if naysayers do not believe. They opened 2 times for Sabbath and they blew Sabbath of the stGe, just read the quotes from Ozzy and Geezer. Here is the deL. Check out 1975'LARGO, MD. The full show just surfaced. I have over 750 KISS bootlegs. Eric Carr is THE drummer, member that took them to a next level. You must check out: LARGO 1975, ANAHEIM 1976 AND A MUST...MUST BOTH RIO AND MONTREAL 1983 CREATURES TOUR with Eric on drums and Vinnie Vincent in lead guitar...talk about METAL KISS....THAT IS THE ERA.
Oh, also if you want to hear another good song with Peter Criss the drummer on lead vocals try "Strange Ways". I always really like Peter Chris's vocals. Cheers
This was at the Winterland Ballroom in San Francisco. Great show. KISS was still several months away from breaking out with the release of the Alive! album. Great era.
The whole Cobo Hall concert from 1975 (it's on youtube) it's just the best from the "raw" KISS before they hit it big. It's just aaaaamazing. Then there's a lot of great concerts after that as well, but Cobo Hall '75, it's just a blast :)
Thanks for bringing the nostalgia 🤘🏽 I saw KISS in Detroit 1978. First concert ever when I was just 11 years old. It was like seeing real life superheroes. What an amazing experience! My ears were ringing for three days afterwards. Looking 50 years back with 2024 eyes doesn’t appreciate what KISS did. Almost every single rock band going forward has been influenced by something KISS invented
Been a KISS fan since I was a teenager in the 70 s , I had a huge crush on Ace, my top fav songs are Strutter , Cold Gin , Rock n Roll all Night and Black Diamond hard to name a few love them all . ✌️❤️💋
The "Alive" era was definitely my favourite from KISS. Like you said, they were hungry. No-one except initial fans wanted anything to do with them. Their music wasn't being played on radio, and the music press did nothing but put $#it on them. Their first 3 LP's failed on the whole due to weak production, but the songs that were on those albums were some of their best. It wasn't until they took the huge risk of releasing a double live LP, "Alive!", that things really starting moving for them. Glad to see you enjoying your KISS journey so far.
OHHH YEAH!!! Now you're gettin into the good stuff my friend!!! Nice work Bro!!!🙌🤜🤛 Ace also wrote Gold Gin....even though he was a chronic Beer guzzler haha. Gene sings that one for him!
HELL YEA!!!!!! this is the famous winterland gig!! my god they were hungry right here! if anyone wants the blueprint on how to put on a rock & roll show and to do it right....this is the concert to learn from, killer show from start to finish.
This entire show is great. Kiss had not broken yet, so they were definitely hungry. If you want to check out Kiss right as they were breaking big, check out the January 1976 Detroit Cobo Hall concert. They still had the Alive! costumes. Later that year, they would go into the studio to record "Destroyer," and the rest, as they say, is Kisstory.
@@jeremiahrose4681 Yes, "Alive!" was the breakthrough. But "Destroyer," "Love Gun" and "Rock and Roll Over," cemented their popularity and showed that "Alive!" wasn't a fluke. The original band probably peaked in popularity, showmanship and musical ability about 1977-78. One could argue that they were still crazy popular in 1979 with the "I Was Made For Lovin' You" single and "Dynasty," album, but, in hindsight, concert ticket sales weren't all that great and the band was clearly falling apart.
If KISS had followed the path set by Hotter than Hell instead going more pop inspired, the band would have rivaled Black Sabbath and others in the new heavy metal scene. Parasite, Strange Ways, Hotter Than Hell, and then they followed that album with Rock n Roll Over which is probably their best original band album. It started deteriorating after that. I did love this era of KISS.
Love Watchin’ You react to classic KISS! Strange Ways off Hotter Than Hell is SO Heavy! You’ll love the drums and that Peter is singing. Peter kills the vocals. Ace crushes the lead guitar! and Gene is holding some excellent chorus background vocals. Loving the KISS content (especially since it's something other than "I Was Made For Loving You" tho I'm cool with you giving that a whirl too if you like). KISS Army for life!!
At this time they were traveling to gigs in station wagons, sleeping in not so nice hotels opening up for other bands like Blue Oyster Cult / those that had been around a while. KISS became the headliners after their Live Album KISS:ALIVE!! was a major success for them & their record company Casablanca
Sorry, one more thing to pass along that will BLOW your Mind! Please react to "KISS live on the Mike Douglas Show 1974!" he had an afternoon talk show in the 70's and had TONS of great bands on going all the way back to the 60's! Anyways, the KISS episode is UNREAL. Gene comes out and talks a bit and afterwards they play Fire House COMPLETELY live...insane. Ok thx Bro!!
Dude, I saw your first two videos reviewing the band from the 70s, and I was absolutely loving it and feeling like I was in the room with you because you had so much excitement! Thanks so much for doing these videos, they really hit home with some of us who have knownthis band since the beginning. Hell, I even play lead guitar because of Ace, and I became a full-time musician in the late 90s, and it wouldn’t have happened had I not gotten turned on to kiss when I was a kid.
@setonhillstudios I can't do what you do. I was 20 in the 70s and now 70 in the 20s. So I grew up with Beatles influence and it grew to hard rock but kinda stuck there. Your scope is impressive.
People have crapped on Peter and Ace's "technicality", (which did start to decline when the chemicals started to set it), but in that time, NOBODY was playing or sounded like Ace and Peter was a BEAST. Check his snare hand through the 6:00 - 6:26 mark. So quick! Also...although Peter and Ace were wrecks as the years went on, they were THE TWO guys in the band who you knew their unique sound or beat in 2 measures.
I actually covered that on the channel not too long ago! Go to our homepage and search the playlist ‘Bands • Groups’ or type it into the search bar on our homepage! Such an amazing vocal performance!
Hell yeah dude. Back to raw shit. Absolutely love this era and just how hungry they were. The parasite riff was one of my favorites to show off when I was learning guitar. One of my favorite tunes from back then was Love Her All I Can off of Dressed to Kill. So groovy, and the solo is cool.
Great reaction. When it comes to kiss, you need to do three or four songs in a row. Or, you could do two or three versions of the same song, one studio version, live version, and a different live version, or something like that. KISS is like Pringles. It’s hard to have just one. Good job on the channel. Keep up the kiss rabbit hole.

You gotta check out the live version of his signature song, Shock Me complete with flaming guitar solo. He actually wrote Gene's song Cold Gin on the first album and they wanted him to sing it but he wasn't confident enough in his singing ability. Even when he recorded Shock Me for the 1977 album, Love Gun, he sang it laying down in the booth with the lights off. And that song took on new meaning when, in Lakeland, FL, he was walking down the stairs on the stage. Some wire wasn't grounded properly and he got electrocuted, was unconscious for at least 10 minutes. This was at the beginning of the show, it was 77 or 78. Not only did he not go to the hospital, when he woke up, he played the rest of the show even though he could not feel his right hand at all. A right-handed lead guitar player who played almost an entire show when he couldn't feel his right hand and after being unconscious for 10 minutes.

Peter Criss and his signature shuffle beat. He uses that beat in several songs.

“Let me go rock n’ roll” from alive 1
My favorite Kiss tune!!
Their best song. Im surprised it hasn’t been copied.
Another KISS banger, and another one that Anthrax covered, to awesome effect.
Alive! Has been my favorite Kiss album for years.
Parasite is one of my favorite songs by KISS
“Watching You” from this same show is absolutely legendary.

Watching You...on KISS ALIVE is equally great in its incredible guitar hooks and drumming.
Dude, you have to spin the album KISS ALIVE! That made so many people a Kiss fan. Orgasmic.
That dark gritty tune (and most of the HTH album) blew my mind when I was a kid and I was hooked.
Right here they were about to loose their asses. Then KISS Alive came out! From then on it was a wild ride.
