Paul Stanley wrote this song. When they went in to record Destroyer, producer Bob Ezrin said, "Gene is going to sing this song." Paul wasn't happy, but Ezrin's instincts were dead on the money. It became Gene's signature song.
...KISS ALIVE!..thats all Im going to say..brother bear PLLLLEASE listening to that album..and if you are a drummer you will LOVE 100,000 Years with drum solo...your channel ROCKS mate!
I'm a 57 year old lady now. But many years ago I taught myself how to play. The first time I picked up the sticks I was 9. the smallest set I started with was a 5 piece single bass drum. the biggest I played was a 10 piece with 2 bass drums. Of course these sets weren't mine. They belonged to my 2 brothers. I was 14 maybe 15 when the younger of my 2 brothers sold the last set we had.And yep I love kiss. I was 6 or 7 years old when they started. Peter Criss and Neil Peart are my 2 most fave drummers of all. They were the reasons why I started back then.
Super cool!! I love meeting fellow drummers! So awesome that you taught yourself to play, which is no easy task! Thanks for sharing and have a great day! 😁
Nice walk down memory lane. It's fun to see 70's KISS being discovered and appreciated by a musician in 2024! Ace was the reason I started playing guitar.
Hope you enjoyed my upscale. :) This was btw at the Madison Square Garden in 1977. At this show, they realized they had made it. You can tell because their energy was off the chart. Even their parents were invited to the show and they had a huge afterparty as well.
Let Me Go Rock n Roll as the closing song on KISS Alive! is the absolute best closer on a live album in history! Used to blast in in my dorm on my Technics stereo on a Friday late afternoon 1987 to set up the party weekend for our hallway group. We were a buncha rambunctious crazy 18 yr olds. Oh the days and the energy!
Мне нравится этот канал,у парня такие искренние эмоции от тех видео которые я знаю десятилетия,что я ему просто завидую!!!KISS величайшая группа всех времен и народов!!!
In 1981 Gene sings "A World without Heroes" from Music by the Elder. It's a ballad. But Gene has great singing voice as well. Not as gravely as his other songs,We have talked about Eric Carr making KISS heavier in the 80's.But Peter Criss tore it up on the drums during the 70's
To make it a quick answer. 13 pieces is the largest I ever played. This drum solo was what got me wanting to play drums. This came out in 77. I was 7 years old and a HUGE Kiss fan. I had the trading cards, the albums, posters. I even dressed as Ace for Halloween that year. I had a fascination with drums from around the age of 5, when I sat behind a drum set at my Aunts house who was in a band. I got my first drum set the next year. 1978. Birthday present. Standard 5 piece kit. I took to playing right away. I would sit in my garage and play along with records. Then my older sister started introducing me to her class mates when she was a Freshman in 1980. I started doing the occasional jam with the older kids. Kiss, Cheap Trick, Boston, Aerosmith, etc. By 1982, a few days after I turned 12 the band I was in played our first gig in Santa Monica at the Starwood. The rest of the band was MUCH older than I...ranging from 18 to 25. A year later, with a different band I played my first show in Hollywood at the Troubadour. From that point until 1989 I played a club in L.A. almost every weekend. I was in multiple bands during this period, sometimes as many as 3 at the same time. My kit had grown to 9 pieces, including a double bass kit and 2 floor toms. The largest I ever played was 13 piece, including a 3 piece roto-tom set. This was the 80's...so I lived a life of excess during this time. I quit in 1989 because I knew I was going to die if I kept partying like I was. To get away from the drugs, I joined the CA National Guard. Then in 1990 I shipped over to Regular Army just in time to go to Desert Shield. Anyway...my last acoustic kit was a Mapex 9 piece kit. I had spent my time after the military in bar bands in Tucson, AZ during the 90's until I moved in 2006. I didn't play drums again until I bought my current Roland TD-50 electric kit (7 pieces but I could expand if I wanted) in 2018. I no longer play with other people. I just jam with my headphones on with drumless tracks on a 6 piece configuration (My digital snare drum currently needs to be repaired so one of the 2 floor toms is actually being used as the snare until then)
Love seeing you get hyped-up over this and recognizing Kiss' musicality. You picked a great clip here. They were really hyped-up on this, especially Gene. How many times did he jump? You should probably check-out Kiss live in Rio 1983. I think it's the biggest crowd that I have seen for anything and these guys were super-hyped up!! Jumping, jumping and more jumping!! Did I say Hyped-up???
I've been a drummer for 48 years now and my biggest drum set was a 9 piece black CB700 with 3 crashes, a ride and chimes! That was back in the early 80's. Had that set til 2006 when I got a 5 piece Tama rock star kit. I now have a 5 piece Ludwig backbeat. Red sparkle.
I play in a Kiss trib band and if you play it right there is nothing easy about nailing these songs , let alone an hour or more before the show to put on the make up and costumes! Kiss are one of a kind. Only the Beatles and Kiss had 4 lead singers/writers , save Queen who had 4 writers and 3 lead singers. BAM! KISS!
KISS Alive!!! MAN. KISS Alive!!! Greatest live album ever. The album that started the live album craze in the 70's. The album that broke KISS into the mainstream. The album of the entire 70's. This IS the one to go to!!!
As the story goes, Elvis Presley's step-brother was listening to KISS Alive! when The King himself walked in and asked to listen to a few songs. When Let Me Go Rock and Roll came on he asked to hear it a few more times, then said. "Ok, I get it." He got the whole concept, and thought the make up was a good idea so they could walk around anonymously.
Anytime kiss does this song it's the centerpiece and highlight of the show! They pull out all the stops. It's so funny Paul used to mouth the words and I wondered why? Duh he wrote the song, and when it came to recording it ezrin said Gene would sing it. This is easily my favorite kiss song
I’m a drummer and had a Ludwig 13 piece kit. 2 bass drums, 1 snare, 4 floor toms, and 6 mounted toms. I also had 3 Roto-Toms, and a set of timbales. This was in the mid 80s. I was a teen and didn’t mind moving it around. :)
Right on. That was a good choice. There’s a bunch more to see. Another good one is Shock Me with Ace singing. Then there’s Hotter Than Hell, C’mon and Love Me, Rock Bottom, She, Cold Gin, Calling Dr. Love, King of the Nighttime World….the list goes on and on from the 70’s.
I love the faster paced version of God of Thunder. That is what I call Gene's Slime Lord voice. Let Me Go Rock 'N Roll has always been one of my favorites! Thanks for the double reaction!
Kiss is so under rated. My fav. They mixed 60s..Beatles and stone's mixed it with what was happening in N.Y at the time. Great vibe. No band gave more for Live shows. Influenced all behind them like it or not!
God of Thunder is always a crowd pleaser. You should check out "Let Me Go, Rock And Roll", C'mon And Love Me", "Mr. Speed", "I Love It Loud", and "Rocket Ride"--Ace's song from Alive II. You can't go wrong with any KISS song. They're all Klassics!
Peter didn't have octabans, I'm not sure if they were even invented yet at this point, anyways they're made by Tama, and Peter was endorsed by Pearl, this is just a matching set of Pearl concert toms, small 6 inch and getting bigger, not sure how many or what sizes exactly, but a beautiful kit, He played a black chrome kit after this, which was just as big. I have a big set up, 8,10,12,13, toms up front, 16 & 18 floortoms, 2 bass drums, snare, another 16 floortom on left side, and another smaller snare beside that. Cymbals starting from my left, 18 crash, 16 crash,13 hi hats, 10 splash, 12 stack ( china sitting on a small crash) 17 crash, 22 ride, 14 china, 15 right side hi hat, 17 crash, 18 china, 4 cowbells, 5 plastic jam blocks, wind chimes, and 6 more drum kits sitting on the shelves, what can I say, I'm a Rush fan, but KISS was my 1st concert back in '77.
Kiss drum cover must be 100,00 Years!!! Gene has a great ‘rock’ voice, but if you haven’t heard him sing “When You Wish Upon A Star” from the 1940 Disney “Pinocchio” you have no idea how good he is! It’s on his 1978 solo album.
Here's a fun fact for you. Let Me Go Rock and Roll was Elvis Presley's favourite Kiss song. There was an interview with (if I remember correctly, it was either his Nephew or Great Nephew). He was playing this song for him.
My favorite drum kit of all time is the one I actually found your channel on - the live performance of Xanadu by RUSH. At that time Neil didn't have any electronics on his kit. Of course his most visually impressive kit was on the Frankfurt drum solo
If you're looking to do a drum cover, check out Love Her All I Can from dressed to kill. The tune has a bit of everything. Great beat, interesting fills...mini drum solos and cowbell. you'll love it
Alright first off when I clicked on this video to watch. My instant thought was “oh no don’t click off the song after the drum solo like last time” lol. Glad u finished it this time around. And second when u said “alright imma keep it going, next is let me go rock n roll” me: “YES!!!”
I got some bangers for you. Check out "Love 'em, Leave 'em", "I Stole Your Love", "Take Me" and "War Machine". I know you already did Eric Carr but his Animalize live drum solo is so badass.
When you want a drummer there a group called starz the drummer from that group the best of all time and the drummer from the buzzcocks there show supersonic
For a while in the 70s the classic rock drummers tried to outdo one another with the size of their drum kits. It was a status symbol. Even we fans talked about it even though most of us had no clue how to play.
Speaking of large kits.....there is a video of RUSH you should check out, Neil has two kits in one that spins around for him to access each one.......one of if not the most amazing drum solos you will ever see.
Still need to check out Songs sung by Ace Frehley!! " SHOCK ME", ROCKET RIDE", 2000 MAN", " TALK TO ME", "TORPEDO GIRL", and " DARK LIGHT". ( Dark light is off of one of their most controversial albums, " The ELDER")
08:33 No octabons. Those are straight up TOMS. And if you want to see some really cool drumming, do a review of “missing persons“ live in the 1980s. Terry Bozzio has the world’s biggest drum set. It wasn’t big back then, but look at his videos over the last 20 years. Let’s go! 🤘🏻😁🤘🏻
Another KISS banger. "I stole your love" live in Largo 20. Dec. 1977. Alive II tour. First song of the show with a very cool stage entrance. ruclips.net/video/RRj_XHujZV8/видео.htmlsi=PGNrl2Ct6tAFIICs
For a drum cover, heck, just do "Let Me Go Rock-n-Roll"! ... take a listen to the studio track, but play at the tempo of the live show you just watched!
A huge pink PEARL drum set. Please remember, it was mid-70s, KISS finally made some money. Alive, Destroyer, and R&R Over are released. Love Gun will be released in a few months. Lots of money to put back into the stage show.

Rush opened for Kiss early on second and third albums, so Neal Peart and Peter Criss played together some
Someone has likely mentioned this already. Peter's drums were custom made for him by Pearl. I'm not sure there was any other kit like it at the time.
