This idea of yours, of making the, rather dark, shadows transparent by carving into them with darker, structural elements, like doors and windows, is gobsmacking. Thanks a million.
I appreciate your time in making these videos and other resources available through RUclips and your website. You’re a great instructor, easy to understand.
So appreciate your generosity in teaching. I am certainly seeing my “beginner” mistakes and its great to have someone mention these common mistakes! Love your work.
Great demonstration, great tips, great thoughts. Loved your wise, encouraging words: "if you don't know exactly what you're doing, pretend that you do..." I can see how that really helps.
One of my favs of your Gary. Been a follower since I took up painting 19 mths ago. Why do people give a thumbs down ?....why don't they just scroll on...probably live under bridges !
Thanks Tom - I appreciate your taking the time to write me - I’m glad the videos are helpful...I guess my wish is that the thumbs down folk spoke up so that I might be able to improve what they feel is lacking...best Gary
Thank you Gary for post the demonstration to audience. I did tonal study, black and white to familiar your subject and watched few times than I did colour one.Your video always like learning courses help me how to handle the tonal value and watercolour consistency, that showed up by your brushwork and your shadow ply.
Thank you I found this particularly inspiring as well as daunting -loose painting is more difficult for me. Your plein air in Italy was good to watch too. Looking forward to seeing the Venice videos too -I live very nearby. I have a photo buildings of Uzes in Provence with lots of shadows. I should try it. Thanks again.
Beautiful location paintings and recent footage! Btw transferring the reference photo to black/white might be helpful for a "visual" tonal study as well.
Interesting approach, easy listening, great communicator and teacher! Ok enough about my CV heading - 🤣 Only Joking 🙈 Brilliant video, have subscribed! 👍
Gary, you are the best artist and teacher in this age of youtube. You are doing a great service to the aspiring artists, thank you.
working ON location... super awesome as always
Thanks for the kind words

You're a watercolor genius! I try hard to not make those perfect shapes but I guess there's years of unlearning to happen.
