I know this was 3 years ago but this is the most outstanding how to video ever! So much detail on the description, and describing what tools are right for the job, you deserve more than you’re getting, keep it up!!!
I just finished the installation of my PPE long tube headers on my 2012 370z Nismo, and this video was a huge help. I ran into an issue at the start of the installation when I realized that my engine block does not have pre-drilled stud locations for the studs that you are supposed to swap around, but I was still able to install my headers. I'll be making a video on the installation soon.
11:38 I definitely recommend getting the special socket, but if you tore your car apart and can't get to the store you can use the double nut trick to remove and replace studs. Put one nut on the stud, and then put a second one on. Loosen the first while tightening the second to jam them together. Then loosen the stud with the bottom nut to remove it from the head, and tighten it back into the head with the top. Remove the nuts and you're done. :) Using the socket on the splined end is better though. You may also need to do the nut trick if the car's really fucking rusty and the E-torx or allen head of the stud is not usable anymore. :)
I did the same for cams and headers for a 350Z years ago. I was used to old Ford Foxbody prices ($189 for headers) and the $1500 price tag shocked the system. But in the era of OBDII that is the cost to play.
Just a heads up, Blox, OBX, CX racing, Megan racing are all pretty much glorified ebay brands. If you wanted to get something more high end I would have recommended the Z1 headers with your choice of test pipes/cat back combo or get yourself a set of Nismo 15+ headers as these were redesigned and don't really gain anything with an aftermarket header. Either of these two headers plus your pick of a test pipe/ cat back combo are your best bet IMO. Besides that, for anyone wondering, this is the hardest bolt-on to perform on the Z33/34 platform because of the limited space. I also recommend getting an UpRev tune to maximize gains as well as get rid of that annoying CEL from the cat malfunction code.
My header of choice would have been PPE headers, but those are MUCH more expensive. I want to see if I can get my hands on some, but in the mean time, I'm quite content with these headers.
Same with ISR long tubes dont come ceramic coated but the studs match priced at 600.0. I love mine but getting extensions for upstream 02s is a bitch during these times of coronavirus.
I love your videos! You explain everything very well, even if I do not have the same car, but the auto mechanic fascinates me! Keep it up, greetings from Argentina!
great video my dude... a lot of people dont realize how much of a pain VHR headers are to put on.... on a side note, anyone who uses z1 shorty headers, you will need DE flanged cats/test pipes to bolt up to the z1 headers
Looking forward to doing my G35x next year. I opted for ceramic headers with Berk HFCs personally, can't wait to see how much harder the passenger side is with the AWD :P It'll be a blast either way.
6:45 Do you know about the box end wrench trick to add leverage? With a socket wrench though, a metal pipe works better. I have a 1-2ft metal pipe that I keep for situations like that. :/ I finally got it wayyyyyy back when a breaker bar wasn't enough to remove a friend's lug nuts. If you don't have a pipe, you can put the closed end of a box end wrench over the handle of the socket wrench to give yourself more leverage. It's awkward because it isn't perfectly straight, but it does help in a pinch. You can do it with another box end wrench by putting the closed end of your second wrench into the open end of the wrench that's on the bolt. Maybe this comment will help someone else.
Given there were wires and other sensitive parts in that area, I didn't want to put too much leverage, but yes that trick has helped me throughout the years.
This job is quite a lot easier than doing it on a 3000gt. You have to disconnect the engine and lift it up, remove cv axles, and have to work between the engine firewall to get to the bolts, on a much older car..so more rust as well.
Great video mate. I am about to get some headers for my 2014 Q50 and I was looking at the drivers side install and just thinking what a nightmare it's going to be. Thanks for all the pointers. Will let you know how it turns out. Need to get them first lol. Cheers!
I ordered (type 1) o2 extenders… just to let everyone know, I believe the nismos have type 2 cause thats what my Nismo has… Put that in ur description so people know that they are different from yours to a nismo, thanks!
Nisformance says to check before ordering, for that exact reason. It is different from year to year, trim to trim, and where the vehicle was to be sold.
Actually it worked out well, I cut my wire ends, swapped the ends and they turned out great, 😂🤣I forgot I’m great with wiring… I’ve done two motorcycles with extra wires through ape bars with heat sleeves on my wires, I’ve done the same with these just no soldering. The results turned out Great!!! Love your video man, it really helped tremendously! 🔥🤘🏼 plus the OBX Headers I received has plenty of room for my steering shaft to turn and I never had to swap studs over for the manifold… its a str8 direct fit!!!😄🔥🙌🏼
I just picked up a set of PPE headers and am going to tackle the project tomorrow. The detailed list of tools etc. in the description is wicked helpful for less experienced folks like myself... thank you for including that! Also curious how different my 370z nismo will be to do this install... I plan on using this video as a step-by-step guide for the process from start to finish.
Sorry to say you got the wrong longtubes bud... The sound your after is an Equal length longtube or a Equal length Shorty on this car such as PPE & Z1 but OBX does make a more affordable V2 LTH.
Love your content. If i might make a suggestion, you should use a slower lens (or slower f stop number like f4 if well lit) for some shots so everything is in focus. anyway, still great content
The trumpet noise is good lol, exhaust is meant to sound like an instrument, otherwise more rasp, just sounds high pitched racket, plus more drone, but surprisingly it sounds nice, does the longtube headers get rid of both catalytic converters or not?
I seemed to lost track, you said at the start your dyno results are with the cat-back exhaust pipes only. I thought you removed your cats and installed test pipes. Now with this complete exhaust mod, you will likely be running too lean, this will damage the top end of your engine. I'm impressed your jump on this project after fighting with the cats
16:30 im helping a friend on his 350z and from the looks of it. everything that is on the driver side, in terms of water lines, is on the passenger side of his 350z. all in all, the engine design and placement of parts truly sucks in those cars. i know by designed those components arent meant to be uninstalled once installed but damn this car is not upgrade friendly for being a sports car.
I read you're not supposed to ceramic coat and wrap, it's one or the other. I also heard putting a wrap can ruin headers by making hot spots and not letting them dissipate heat causing dents and cracks over time
Great install video...but I would spend the extra money to get better made headers. Those welds don't look very good, doesn't look like they back purged them during the welding process. They could fail at anytime.
Fantastic video mate. Really well filmed and the tuition is nice and clear. Def subbed as Now I want to do this to my HR. I'm doing the rear subframe bushings tomorrow, do you think the headers are a harder or easier job?
It's hard to say. Some cars, the bolts come out nicely. Others are stupid! If you've installed test pipes on your car recently, you shouldn't have any problems doing headers. It's just a tight space.
I've seen people soak the exhaust wrap in water before wrapping it. Is that a thing? Going to be sick when you tune it. Removed pretty much the biggest restriction. Headers, cats, biggest difference maker when you swap those out. Sick vid.

Awesome detailed Video Milan.. 2 years or so on Have you experienced any manifold leaks or change in power/sound etc? I'm really thinking about doing this exact upgrade OBX but hesitant with which brand or header type I should go for..
So I did have an issue with the OBX headers that I experienced after using it... one of the driver side runners comes in contact with the steering column while the engine is under load. It pretty much holds it in place and is quite concerning. They can be modified to clear, you can run solid engine mounts so the engine doesn't move, or you can run something different like PPE.
[BB] Pikachu I don’t know why you say that. I didn’t say my car was super fast. I simply said, 350whp for an exhaust and intake change + tunes doesn’t add up. Don’t get me wrong I wasn’t insulting you !

WOuldnt it make sense to upgrade everything at once. Air intake, ported manifolds, long tube headers, exhaust. All at once is what im doing and its gonna seem so much easier.
I have a 2015 Nissan 370z and I will be using the ISR longtube headers but in unsure if I need the same NISformance O2 Sensor Extenders (Type 1) or another type. Can you help me with this?
Wow what a pain in the ass, I gotta give you props on this install it looked pretty intimidating. You never gave us new hp & tq numbers. Was it worth it?
@milanmastracci Hey great vid love your channel. After following your channel for a bit I have some questions I wanted to run by you. 1. Do you get any drone on the highway or any unusual rasp? 2. After installing the OBX headers do you feel the noise level is ok for the a daily driver? Or is that not a concern for you since this is you're project car 3. I think this one is for all of us when I say, dyno sheet please!!! thanks !
I’m about to order my long tube headers & wanted to clarify the right type of O2 sensor extender I would need for the secondary sensor in the defouler area
What type did you get? I went on the website and according to my o2 sensor I need type 2 but they’re not available yet. I figured all Zs would be the same type. I have a 2010 nismo
these cars spew out an unbelievable amount of black shit without cats. You're blessed to be in a state that doesn't require it. IE state that doesn't give a shit about the environment. Not judging I used to live in Arizona. In California I don't have as many options anymore.
Good video my dude. I'm building my Z fully. New episodes each sat @10am cali time. If you ever get a chance check it out. I'm going full build. And this platform isn't dead ppl. It's just a $$$ platform. So if you do decide to build a Z just be ready! ;)

Very similar, however the Z1 header only replaces the manifold, where my long tubes replace the headers and catalytic converters.
@@milanmastracci thank you bro. Appreciated
Wow what a pain in the ass, I gotta give you props on this install it looked pretty intimidating. You never gave us new hp & tq numbers. Was it worth it?
I would 100% say it is worth it! I am getting it tuned and dyno'd to see what kind of figures these power mods make
This guy must be Canadian
If I get long tube headers for my 370z would u recommend I scuff it n add the ceramic coat and wrap it with the exhaust wrap?
@milanmastracci Hey great vid love your channel. After following your channel for a bit I have some questions I wanted to run by you.
1. Do you get any drone on the highway or any unusual rasp?
2. After installing the OBX headers do you feel the noise level is ok for the a daily driver? Or is that not a concern for you since this is you're project car
3. I think this one is for all of us when I say, dyno sheet please!!! thanks !
will those extensions fit any longtube headers ?
Nice 👍👍👍
I’m about to order my long tube headers & wanted to clarify the right type of O2 sensor extender I would need for the secondary sensor in the defouler area
I love this build
What type did you get? I went on the website and according to my o2 sensor I need type 2 but they’re not available yet. I figured all Zs would be the same type. I have a 2010 nismo
Did you need two sets of 02 extensions? Or just one set?
I needed one set of them 👍
milanmastracci thank you that’s what I figured just wanted to make sure
Which Y pipe is that? It had the cats integrated into them ? Or was it custom
I would like to know that answer too
these cars spew out an unbelievable amount of black shit without cats. You're blessed to be in a state that doesn't require it. IE state that doesn't give a shit about the environment. Not judging I used to live in Arizona. In California I don't have as many options anymore.
What about swapping the downpipes out for HFCs?
You will never get your low to mid range back no matter what you do
Good video my dude. I'm building my Z fully. New episodes each sat @10am cali time. If you ever get a chance check it out. I'm going full build. And this platform isn't dead ppl. It's just a $$$ platform. So if you do decide to build a Z just be ready! ;)
I finish mine, got the service light on, said that is a misfire cylinder 5, did you get the same code when you put your headers on?
Of the six nuts on driver side header which were the hardest to get to/remove?
Where did you get the oxygen sensor extensions at?
