Kind of disappointed. Me and so man other people were flipping our shit when Smash revealed the entire roster from previous games were making it to this one game, and he didn't even seem phased by it lol. Kind of killed my buzz.

I watched this Direct live earlier today and left feeling a mix of excitement about what was presented and a feeling of dissatisfaction from the lack of volume of information; I loved the little I saw, but was upset that I couldn't see more. Watching you go from manic anticipation to the realization that all of your predictions were wrong, I was stunned by your unerring positivity, gratitude, and level-headedness. Thank you for being you, and I hope I'll be lucky enough you thank you in person one day.

The Problem I have with this E3 Presentation is that they could have shown a little more.
Like last year a bomb at the end. Even if it was i.e. a Cinematic Bayonetta 3 trailer without gameplay
I was expecting at least something... since I am not really hyped for Smash Bros
We knew about the Xenoblade DLC, we knew about octopath and we knew about Mario+Rabbids DLC. Which means this Event had literally nothing for me.
I dont say the presentation was bad, maybe my expectations were a little bit to high, but as I said

They showed the roster, levels, tech, updated graphics, and showed the best smash players playing the game for a few hours. It doesn't come out for months I don't know how much more you were looking to hear. This was a perfect presentation and it still keeps things exciting come December

I'll just post this here so that everyone knows, after the Splatoon 2 World Championships ended Nintendo confirmed the Octo expansion is coming out tomorrow

I mean animal crossing or Yoshi's island 15, instead he bitches and doesn't care about true RPGs that take a lot more developing time like xenoblade Chronicles 2 dlc (practicly a new game changing maps, new cutscenes, gameplay and getting a fisical release) and fire emblem (worth 100000 animal crossings and Yoshi's)

He missed a lot. While yes a lot of the characters are not new. They are new to smash 4/ultimate and have the potential to change the potential. This direct was great for me because I knew it was mostly only going to be smash. I mean Nintendo said that themselves. People over hyped themselves. I personally still got two other game stuff from this being the new Mario Party and Octopath and the demo that is coming soon. Long story short never over hype a direct for yourselves. I feel he ruined this direct for himself with his predictions rather then just waiting to see what happened.
The problem here is arlo doesnt ppay smash. He said so himself. So him being as excited as most nintendo fans are is just not going to happen. That is also why he misses so much stuff about his favorite characters
I mean it is fair, but it just sounded like he was super disappointed because it didn't cater to him. I would feel the same if someone said something similar to when BotW was being shown a while back. The world doesn't always cater to you specifically. Plus it isn't like the year is over either.
Teh AnimeHQ yeah he was so biased but we'll everyone kinda is, for example I don't play animal crossing at all so I didn't even care that they didn't show it here, on the other hand a fisical release of the torna story and a fire emblem game? I'll take those 2 over some crappy farmville and starfox racing any time

But snake always had one of the most annoying playstyles in all of smash. They only reason people want him is the name. And that seems like horrible reason to add someone that focuses on constantly running away with projectiles and trucking your opponent with nearly invisible attacks into the game.
___ I3ambi They replaced Snake's nearly invisible downsmash. He does kicks now. The only thing you have to watch out for now is the c4, which is far more visible

Laura B Didn't help that they started with the two most boring videos in the lineup. I mean I'm sure that Xenoblade DLC is probably great if you've played the game but for those of us who haven't, it did absolutely nothing to grab us. It acted like we weren't there at all, and didn't care if we didn't know what was happening. I felt the same way during the Octo Expansion video but at least that was stylish and had groovy music and we didn't have to have intimate knowledge of the characters or story for it. And that mech fighting game just...that was a frickin snoozefest. It could be an amazing game at the end but the preview is snore.

I don't understand why people would be sad. We already knew they would strongly focus on Smash... and they did show new stuff, even a new IP! Also remember Nintendo has Directs throughout the year, so its not like we won't hear anything new til E3 or something like that :P

Just because they said they would focus on Smash doesn't mean we'll be pleased with it. This is the second E3 for Switch and this is when it should be hitting prime time but it doesn't feel like it. E3 is the time when they should go all out but instead, they try to temper expectations and only show off the bare minimum. It is very disappointing imo, especially for people who aren't interested in Smash.

You guys are forgetting that LAST year was when they should (and did) go all out. Showing all the games, including the ones so early in development they couldn't make cinematic trailers for them, to *prove* that the console is getting good games, so it would have a first strong year, and bring devs on board with strong console sales outside of the hardcore fans that bought despite a nearly empty launch library...THAT'S when they needed to go strong. They broke the new nintendo direct rule: *only show games coming this year.* The only game shown today that is not coming this year is the new IP, and it's slotted for early next year. And do you really expect them to have something close to finished (like prime 4) when it was so early in development they couldn't even show a cinematic?
Remember, all but one game shown today is coming out this year. *every single one*. This isn't an "e3 event" to nintendo. This is just another direct, really. The next one will likely have the big announcements for next year.

I was originally disappointed by the lack of content this direct, but after thinking a while.. I kinda shifted my tune. Nintendo has an amazing ability to keep their cards close to their chest, they don't feel the need to announce anything that wouldn't be released until years later(unlike a lot of other companies) which I admire, although frustrating at times lol.
I think they knew all they really needed this year was Smash, and they're right, despite any new announcements (besides Super Mario party) It was still the hypest conference this year imo simply due to smash. Having said that, I can't help but feel sorry for those who have no interest in Smash, and to them I'd say ''Hey, e3 isn't over yet, they still could announce more throughout e3''.
Are there some 3DS cards close to their chest, cause there was no noise about any.
I honestly have no idea, maybe they just wanted to focus on switch this year? No sure, either way I think they're beginning to slowly fade out 3ds content. I still suspect that they may have a few games in development, but I'm not 100%.

Well I only have Smash for WiiU, so Smash Ultimate has a lot of "characters that aren't in games I already own ".

Fair enough if you don't own the other Smash games it's good to have the full roster.
Nothings been officially said as I understand it but I read an article from journalists who did hands on and interviews seem to indicate that while the roster has everyone it's practically guaranteed that some stages and items will be cut.
I want to believe that the ultimate title means all the best features of the franchise up till now in one game and refined to their best, but that presentation and the focus on multiplayer and all the pure mechanical tweaks they made to the gameplay throughout E3 do not inspire confidence.
It's too bad that it's campaign is below Subspace.
About the fire emblem DELAY:
they said it was "Planed to release in 2018" more than a year ago without showing anything in between, there was no date or confirmation. And when the competition in the end of 2018 is POKEMON in November and SSB Ultimate in December, I think is better to release at the start of next year, specially because for the first time in a long time they are really risking and making a huge evolution for the series.

Honestly, I feel like you were really underselling how much new stuff is in this game. The game looks amazing and it's sad that you didn't think it was much more.
When asked, Bill Trenin said that Nintendo wanted to focus only on what was coming out this year and MAYBE sprinkle in some early 2019 announcements that had cemented release dates. Basically, they wanted to generate hype, but not waste it on things that weren't far enough along to have anything worthwhile to show.
I think ProJared said it best: _Don't judge the presentation based on what you wanted to see. _*_That conference doesn't exist._* Only judge it on what you _did_ get. In that regard, this was a good E3. Everyone's raving about Microsoft, but I didn't care all that much. I'm mostly excited for Fallout 76, Elder Scrolls Blades, Starfield, Starlink, Assassin's Creed: Odyssey, & Fire Emblem.
I think I might pick up this year's Smash. Maybe. I got 4-3DS, but I didn't get the Wii U version or all the DLC characters for them. The game didn't grab me enough to warrant spending that extra money. I honestly didn't believe it worthy of that because I didn't enjoy the grindy nature of the single player. Once I unlocked each character, I had no reason to continue playing because I'd get my rear handed to me in the online mode, and that'd just turn me off even more. But if I _don't_ have to pay to unlock every character that I'd want, then I may pick it up. That's a little more worth it.
Did this direct have everything i wanted? No. Am I getting super upset? No. Because I care about other people, and I can enjoy when others are happy.

Balian55 Everyone expects these wowzah amazing unbelievable reveals from Nintendo e3, but Nintendo spreads their announcements throughout the year. It's a pretty great direct, as usual.
The games they have shown actually look pretty great. I think it's just that they put so much time on Smash which put people off, plus that they announced Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu & Eevee early.

Because from E3 you expect variety, when a company says that will be focusing in a game you expect 10-15min of showing said game, not almost half an hour, and the fact that the whole thing is 45min makes it even worse, it's literally more than half the conference

AceArion that's the problem, those are few games (i still think there isn't that much really new shown, but im not sure)
Compared with Microsoft for example who shwon almost 40-50 new games that's a really little number, and other companies that wanted to focus in one special game didn't stayed more than half the conference talking about the same game, it can get really boring and disappointing if you're not that into the game
No Pikmin, Animal Crossing, Metroid, or Mario DLC... at least Smash Ultimate was hype

They are saving their announcements for another direct. On their website they say that 2019 and beyond announcements are being saved for a later date. I wish they would've said that in E3 so people wouldn't be so pissed.

To everyone who's mad about this being "underwhelming", Nintendo has used their E3 presentation as just a excuse to have a scheduled Direct for 4 years now. Why would they change something that's still proven to be working for them? Guess what, Nintendo has ALLWAYS only shown something off when they felt like it was READY to be shown, Metroid Prime 4 was a exception because they needed to do SOMETHING to win back goodwill after the WiiU flopped as hard as it did.
Been excited for this since I finished watching it! Can't wait to hear your thoughts.

It's nice to see a reaction from someone who isn't a hardcore Smasher. I've reached a point where I literally only buy Nintendo consoles when a new Smash comes out but it's nice to get a glimpse into the other side. I like your content. Keep up the good work.

I thought it was pretty decent. A lot of people were really upset about it but it honestly could not have lived up to last year at all. People go into these things with such huge expectations that all of their favorite games are gonna get revealed only to not have them revealed because they were expecting way too much. Then they get mad. Why they still do this I don't have a clue.

Gavadar Same with me! Seriously, the E3 website prepared people for a mostly Smash Bros. stream, but everyone’s heads run wild. My tip for every direct and E3 is “do not expect anything, that way you won’t get mad when something isn’t shown.”

Having said that, me watching it, I was simply smiling and golf clapping occasionally. I think most people had that reaction.

Yeah a lot of people are ridiculously stoked to have content sold back to them which they've already paid for in previous iterations, which was arbitrarily removed in the first place ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
EV Belluche I was still pretty excited during my own reaction for my standards. I don't think they were necessarily arbitrarily removed, I am glad to have them back. Does make me have concerns for the future of the series though, since now having every character is going to be an expectation going forward

No need to announce anything big. Smash would have buried anything else major. Games like Metroid, Pikimin, or Star Fox will have their time to shine in the future

Arlo, seriously, I gotta call you out on this. "Just Smash" is really your way of saying "I didn't care about anything that wasn't Smash, so I'm going to ignore all the other huge announcements they made." And you need to not be like that, because that's not only not fair to Nintendo, it's not fair to the fans of everything you're ignoring. You're basically telling them that what THEY care about isn't important, and all that matters is what YOU care about. So let's go through their announcements one-by-one, with the bigger (i.e. most popular) ones in bold. They revealed:
-a brand new exclusive IP
-story DLC for Xenoblade Chronicles 2
*-a return to form for Mario Party after it was terrible for the entirety of the Wii U era*
*-the new Fire Emblem game, including title, story, gameplay, and release window*
*-Fortnite (literally the most popular game on the planet right now, not an exaggeration, free to play, has made billions of dollars in a few months) is releasing on the switch as soon at the presentation is over*
-a few really popular indie titles coming to Switch
-a few really popular other titles coming to Switch, with either release dates or release windows
-a few release dates for some DLC and stuff, including Octo Expansion releasing TOMORROW, although that was announced during the Treehouse (but then again, so was Samus Returns)
You may not care about any of those, because (after years of watching you) I'm pretty sure the only games you care about are Paper Mario, Pikmin, and Metroid (seriously, you even make a point of saying you don't care about most series when you review their games), but plenty of people do.
Even if you ONLY count the Smash stuff, there's still plenty there. I'll put the most impressive/game-changing/highly-requested/"Oh my God, I never thought this would happen" ones in bold.
*-literally every character from every previous game is in it*
*-this includes Snake, who is owned by Konami, and I don't think I have to explain why that's a big deal (same goes for Bomberman as an Assist Trophy)*
*-Princess Daisy is playable*
-Echo. Fighters. (clones no longer take their own slots, making the roster look and feel less bloated)
-a boatload of changes to the actual "fighting" mechanics of this fighting game
-new moves/movesets for a bunch of characters, like Mario, Link, and Ganondorf (seriously, how did you miss his giant sword?), including an overhaul of Final Smashes
-a few character redesigns, new costumes, blah, blah, this one doesn't really matter, but what does matter is...
*-RIDLEY. IN. SMASH.*
That's a lot to take in, no matter how you slice it. The website shows that there's one more new character yet to be revealed, and if you want more, wait for the DLC. There's 66 characters (not counting Echoes) in this game, and at least 75 stages. It's not lacking for content, so DON'T ANY OF YOU WHINE ABOUT DLC! (Not you Arlo, you're good about that.) Then some trailers show off other stuff, like Knuckles the Echidna and Krystal from Star Fox as Assist Trophies (and possibly also an Armored Frog from Earthbound as an Assist Trophy; between this, Magicant, and the additions to Ness and Lucas's Final Smashes, is someone trying to tell Reggie something?) and what a bunch of the stages are. Nintendo showed a lot. People just don't notice since they actually talk about what their games are and how they play instead of showing off a bunch of cinematic trailers with little to no gameplay and then spouting buzzwords.

We already knew about Fire Emblem, Xenoblade DLC, and Smash. The big NEW announcements were Daemon (a cool but niche looking game with no release date) and Mario Party.
You cannot tell me it’s unreasonable to expect at least 2 BIG new announcements at the biggest gaming event of the year unless you have extremely low expectations.
Imposter Ditto We had no details about Smash or Fire Emblem, and I don't know about Xenoblade. Nobody was expecting every single character to be in Smash. No one thought they'd be building it from the ground up. And if you're going to complain about Nintendo not showing off enough things we didn't know about, you have to hold every other company to the same standard. I can't think of one game announced at any of the other conferences we didn't know about except for the Gears of War games, only one of which is something people actually wanted, and Elder Scrolls 6, which anyone could tell was coming and all we got was a logo.
Evan Peskoff 1. E3 is the place for reveals. I’m GLAD that they game us details on Fire Emblem and Smash (those are the only 2 games I wanted to see, so trust me I am happy), but that should’t be ALL that we see apart from some more indie and late 3rd party ports.
2. Smash is one game. One AMAZING looking game, mind you, but still one game. For Nintendo fans who aren’t into Smash (which somehow exist), more than half of this showing is a non-factor
(You can argue that “Why are you watching a Nintendo Direct advertised about showing off Smash if you don’t care about Smash?”, and I would agree with you, but there is MORE than plenty of people expressing criticism of mostly showing only one game that they aren’t interested in, and they aren’t wrong in saying so, so it is something to consider.)
3. Yes I hold all companies to the same standard, so this was a disappointing E3. EA, Square, and Sony showed of barely anything new (which is especially annoying with Sony showing off the same games they revealed back in 2016, 2 darn years ago.) It’s even weirder with Nintendo because not only was the direct mostly stuff we already knew about, they were missing alot of stuff we already knew about too (Metroid, Bayonetta, Yoshi, No More Heroes). I didn’t expect them to show off everything, but in a year that’s already lacking first party games, I did expect them to show off a few of there 2019 and beyond games, like literally everyone else does.

Also, this has been a trend for the past few E3s, I noticed. It's because developers can just announce what they're making during interviews and on social media and stuff.

I think it’s important to note that the direct said that it focuses on games coming out in 2018. We will probably get other big titles coming out during 2019 at the fall direct.

Brand new exclusive IP = lots of promise
Fire Emblem = massively popular series that makes a ton of money
Mario Party = massively popular series that's been in a rut lately and is returning to form (gee, what does THAT remind me of? Hint: you mentioned that Arlo likes it.)
Smash = possibly Nintendo's most popular franchise since it contains ALL the franchises, and it also makes Nintendo all the money in the world, and has sold millions of GameCubes, Wiis, and... well, maybe not Wii Us. When Smash releases, millions of people are going to buy Switches specifically for it.
In addition to that, the Switch is currently the most lucrative market for indie developers. In other words, all those indie titles they announced are coming to the Switch are going to make boatloads of money.
I'm sick of hearing "X company didn't show anything/anything big/anything good" when what you really mean is "X company didn't show anything that interests me, personally." Everything Nintendo showed is going to make them oceans of money, whether you or Arlo buys it or not. The notion that somehow this was somehow a "bad" presentation or "didn't show anything" or "isn't good for Nintendo" is patently false.

Metal Thrashing Mad Yeah, Sakurai said he hopes we're not expecting too many DLC characters, so that means that a few are likely but not as many as last time.
You should also remember, when Smash 4 was unveiled, the only newcomer shown in the original trailer was Villager, with Wii Fit being revealed later that day, I think. All the other newcomers were saved until later to reveal. This game will most likely be the same, though probably not with tons and tons of newcomers.

Don't want to edit a second time, but, eh. Also, here's another thing you have to consider. Super smash bros? LITERALLY nintendo's best selling franchise, even more than 3d mario games. Melee? Best selling game on the gamecube, full stop. Brawl? Numbers vary, but better or only slightly worse than galaxy. Wiiu is a weird story.

I totally agree man, it’s kinda painful how he kinda says yeah yeah whatever to great looking stuff, and then mopes for the whole video. Mario party, and fire emblem both look really good and I’m almost as hyped for those as I am for smash. We basically know pikmin, Metroid, and animal crossing are coming anyway, it’s not like we could get 5 great 1st party games at the same time I don’t know why everyone was expecting specific ones and got mad they got something different even though it looks just as good.
The first title they showed (Daemon X Machina) is a new IP but not a Nintendo IP. It not something that is taking up development time from Nintendo. Honestly this Direct was a let down. I would've taken a cinematic teaser for metroid like they did for Bayonetta 3 instead of having nothing.

I was watching Projared's E3 videos & he makes this point: you can't get mad just because of what you didn't see, you have to judge it based on what you DID see. I feel that Arlo won't be doing that, instead he'll be harping on the majority on Nintendo being Smash Bros & no Metroid Prime 4, Animal Crossing, or whatever else.
NumberOne#1 I completely agree with you, that's why I didn't like Sony's and EA's E3, because nothing there interested me, but Microsoft, Nintendo, and Ubisoft all at least had 2 or 3 things that got my attention.
Judge based on what's there, not by what wasn't there. It's taking your own expectations out of the equation & being completely objective. Just because a lot of anticipated games weren't showcased, that shouldn't be used to detract from what was shown, when there's plenty of games besides Smash to look forward to. We got DAEMON X MACHINA, Xenoblade DLC, Hollow Knight, Overcooked 2, Fortnite, Fire Emblem, Pokemon Pikachu/Eevee, classic Mario Party, Killer Queen Black, Octopath Traveler, Starlink, Mario+Rabbids DLC, etc. And yet, people are so blinded by the lack of Metroid, Animal Crossing, Yoshi, Pikmin, etc. that they're walking away disappointed when there was plenty to enjoy.

Blaze knight Expectations are a double-edged sword (and even more so when you have to write them down to create videos). Instead of being surprised when you receive something new, you have an (often unrealistic) list of games you want to see and you are painfully aware of any omissions.

Haven't watched the entire video yet but to those who were disappointed because they didn't show a certain game, I suggest taking a page out of Projared's book. "The E3 that you have in your head, doesn't exist." When they are ready to show a game, they'll show it and we just got to be patient. (Although, I do find it really strange that we didn't see any Yoshi since it was scheduled for 2018...and now that I just checked the Nintendo website, it's been pushed to 2019.)

Just... smash? Dragon Ball Z fighters will be on switch, new (and great) Fire Emblem, Mario Party, Fortnite... I think it was pretty good. I am happy. We DO know they are working on metroid prime 4 and more games they have been talking about. We shouldn't expect that they will spend all their bullets here. Nintendo has its own show, the Nintendo direct. It's ok.

I looked at the Nintendo website and under the upcoming game listing, it says Yoshi: Release Date: 2019, meaning it’s delayed. That kind of sucks because it’s the first notch in Nintendo’s perfect record this console generation. And, even before that they delayed the Dark Souls port, so I hope that this doesn’t mean that they’re gonna start slacking off in this regard.
