I almost broke down hearing this. I'm 48 and this takes me right back to being a kid in the 80's. What a decade. What a time to be young. It was pure magic. The invent of home computers and gaming consoles, The movies and music, the TV shows. Good times
As a grown man with Kids when I heard this intro I thought I had to go to bed, because I would have to go bed when this show came on...I am now crying because I miss my parents.
You're not alone man. I miss mine too and reminiscing about old shows like this and my childhood probably doesn't help much, but it is something we do.
Takes me back to being about 12 , this theme would mean time for bed , I'd kiss my mom and dad goodnight and as I went up the stairs to get ready for bed I'd hear the episode begin , my parents are gone now and I miss them so much .
There will never be another decade like the 80s. The vibe was just out of this world. So much hope for the future but yet we still had family values that stood the test of time.
Yeah. Like how on most episodes, the opening scene would be at A M. Roll Call with the chief briefing the officers of days events, concerns, and BOLOs As well as other things happening at the station, citizens making reports and such Then, the closing words from the chief, "Hey, let's be careful out there".

@@user-cr8dq7sc6h All those old "very special episodes" were pretty preachy too, but they were still well written. I think the big difference is writing quality.

It’s 2024 and I’ve been in law enforcement since 1987. Hill Street is in many ways one of the most realistic of police shows. It shows the chaos and unglamorous aspects of what it is like to be a police officer in a big city.
Hill Street Blues.. Oh they don't make shows like this anymore! All the great memories of the good old days this show brings back. Life was magical,, life was good..

Hill Street Blues may be the most influential one hour drama in television history. Before this, cop shows were Starsky & Hutch and Mannix and crap like that. After Hill Street came St. Elsewhere, the most influential doctor show, which set the stage for E.R. and others. The writing, acting, everything they did on Hill Street Blues changed the direction of television. I still remember it to this day, 30 years later.
