    Creating USB installers for older versions of Mac OS X can be tricky, so I decided to put together a more detailed walkthrough. High Sierra is similar, but you actually want to use a different date timestamp!
    El Capitan Create USB Command:
    sudo /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ El\ Capitan.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia --volume /Volumes/el-cap --applicationpath /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ El\ Capitan.app
    El Capitan Date Change Command:
    Date -u 0923020415
    High Sierra Date Change Command:
    date -u 0818025919

    Brother Thank you so much 😊. You covered every steps that needed to be done for this process to work. I lost a lot of time trying to figure it out from others.

    I have an official El Capitan installer but each time I try to install I got this annoying error message: "This copy of the Install OS X El Capitan application can't be verified...". Any idea on how to solve this issue? Thx [ Problem solved. You have to input the date of the day you downloaded the .dmg from Apple]

    There's one important thing in the text string that you HAVE to change for this to work. In the string, his thumb drive is named "el-cap." You HAVE to change that to whatever you named your thumb drive when you format it.
    Also, changing the date string to the one listed also caused issues - I changed it back to the current date and all was well and everything is working fine now.

    Hi! Trying to do this for my old MBP 2010. I am on OSX Catalina, and whenever I mount the el capitan installer, it wouldn't want me to open. It says warning. I can't mount it to the Application. Any recommendations?

      I had to download an El Capitan image file (from where I cannot say...) and run it in VMWare (you can get a trial version that works fine). Then download the dmg from Apple within the virtual machine, unpack the pkg and finally create the install media from that file. All in the virtual machine. I tried several methods of unpacking the file using various terminal commands but the resulting installer simply wouldn't work. It was a real pain but I got there in the end.

  • @MikeyC314
    @MikeyC314 3 года назад +2

    Hi, where did you download the dmg with the El Capitan installer? When I get it off Apple's site it's a dmg with a pkg file in it. Thanks!

    • @ideasanli4925

      You have to install the app by executing the pkg, then an El Capitan APP installer will be created at the apps folder

      @@ideasanli4925 Thanks but this only works if unpacking the pkg on El Capitan or older. In the end I had to download an El Capitan image file and run it in VMWare. when installation starts it prompts that "copy of install OS X El Capitan application can't be verified" and cancels the installation. I couldn't get terminal open (no "utilities" -tab at top panel, only "edit" and "window" shows up) while in install OS X, so I did it while in OS X utilities (prior to install OS X). Is this the cause of install error?

    • @messing-with-computers
      @messing-with-computers  3 года назад

      Yeah - you have to set the date in the installer or it will fail like you have mentioned.

    • @embodiedsoul5179
      @embodiedsoul5179 3 года назад

      @AI If you go with the mouse to the top of the screen you get a menu and you can disable the Wifi and then do the change on the date. Make sure you have unplug the network cable if you have it connected. then restart and it should do the installation. I wasted a ferw hours till I found this: apple.stackexchange.com/questions/394259/mac-stuck-in-el-capitan-installer-loop-no-packages-were-eligible-for-install

      You have to rename the memory stick without spaces, then where it says volume change his el-cap to the name you give it. I renamed mine Elcap. It found it and worked but it failed to install. So now I'm stuck.
