Apple should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves. There are probably hundreds of thousands of old apple computers sat around like paperweights. Amazing machines with fantastic screens and speakers, most of which will go to landfill. It’s pretty diabolical that Apple don’t come up with a way to recycle them to be honest. Thankfully there are people like you helping people to keep using them ❤

I have a 2007 iMac that has a Broadcom network controller BCM4321. I can't get a wired, or wifi, connection in pre- and post-Ubuntu installation, therefor no internet connection. Advice anyone?

is this a dual boot or does it remove and overwrite the mac disk?

revisiting this after 2 years. the 765 is only 2gb of ram. is there any possibility to upgrade for more? when making my comment 2yrs ago, i was clueless, but it did acutally swap out the gpu for a newer one, and got everything to work though.

Curtis, any suggestions on how to fix older iMac that I had attempted to delete all the information and data so I could give it away. I did something wrong, but not sure what. Ended up not giving away and now want to install Lenox. When I tried to install Lenox with the boot up disk and held the option key, screen went dark and nothing happened. Can you point me in the right direction?

That is excellent for all outdated Mac's. Even with maximum ram and 1 to 2TB SSD is cooler.

Hi, im having an issue, maybe u can help... when starting the iMac, i can hear the chime and then iMac restarts. Chime is heard again and then iMac restarts. This situation repeats over and over, it cant boot normally neither with the option button pressed! Any idea why?

I recently came into possession of a 2010 mac pro desktop that does not have a hard drive of any kind. I have a bootable usb with unbuntu on it, and I cannot get the mac pro to get to the boot menu. Do I need to get a hard drive with a copy of mac OS first, then boot into Ubuntu?

I always come back to this video, tens of time. I have a imac mid 2011 27" but running with ubuntu 22.04. Is amazing working with it. I mounted a Quattro K3000M 2Gb RAM. The only note about it is it has to be very fresh, because it gets too hot if no envoriment refrigeration is available.

I know this video is 4 yrs old but it came in clutch for installing Ubuntu. I picked one of these up at a yard sale for $10, dropped a 1tb hdd into it and installed Ubuntu. Still alot of life in this old thing!

I have succeeded to install ubuntu 22.04. Thank you for that. However, i must have made a mistake with the password because i cannot login. So i like to do this again but i can't get Ubuntu to start in recovery mode or re install from the usb stick. How do i get into recovery mode with an original apple magic keyboard.

about for hdd fan and temp sensor of hdd. i do this : find the 2 pins on the hdd and measure with ohmmeter ( this process do it on room temps ). and the ohms in my case are 5.7 komhs.. some sensors are 5kohm some 10kohm... and after just add a resistor with the value from ohmmeter on the motherboards 2 pin cable ( hdd temp).... i do this trick and the fan of hdd work at the lowest point. and i dont use fan controll app . cheers

Mine recently died after performing this upgrade. well the xeon 1280v2. The PSU fell and hit the motherboard (top part above the CPU) and it made a pop followed along with a orange/redish spark. It literally just sits with the green LED lit now, like you press the power button, nothing happens. The green LEDs which are supposed to light up only one stays and thats it. Tried a new PSU to no avail. So please be very cautious. I've built PC before but these iMacs are no joke haha

so you can download ubuntu and etcher onto a laptop you currently use and flash the drive without it messing with the computer you do that on? then use the usb on my old macbook?

I installed Ubuntu 24.04 on my iMac 27" late 2013 using my wife's wired mouse and keyboard, the bluetooth/wireless iMac keyboard and touchpad don't work. My wife took her mouse and keyboard back, so now, the iMac is a door stop. Thanks for stating how easy it is. I wish I would use it. On a downside, from "me", I have to give the video a thumbs down due to not being able to use the machine at all.
