wonderful ! really astonishing! Please : may I ask You how to solve a sudden condition of MAC PRO 2009 = no tune chime , cause the OPT+CMD+R+P procedure appears not to offer a solution ? Best Regards
Curtis Gross Couple tips.. take a washcloth and feed it under the CPU and take part of it and kind of lay it on top so that when the CPU separates it doesn’t go flying. Also, try to keep the PCB as high up on the vice as you can go, you had it in about the middle of the plate, you’re more likely to damage the pcb that way.
wonderful ! really astonishing Please before May , I managed to solve a southern condition to my mac pro which is now 5.1 ; then I will try and buy a pair of x 56 75 Best Regards
Wrong. The only Mac Pro that needed to be delidded is the 2009 dual CPU 4,1. The Single CPU 4,1 and the 2010-2012 5,1 do not require delidding. Also I would never use a vice. I recommend the razor blade and heat method.
Interesting note on the 5,1 not needing the delid - I’ll look into it. As for the vice, I have done it on 8 different cpus from this generation and all 8 were a success, might be better with heat, but these chips are so cheap it isn’t a huge risk.
Two x5675 successfully delidded following your instructions. A little scary but easy. Thank you very much.
You’re like the Bob Ross Mac upgrades. “ and over here we have a happy little CPU”. Love the vids
Haha - Now if I could just create a computer out of a bunch of blobs of components.
Perfect instructions. I just delidded the x5675 CPUs I bought on eBay and installed them in my Mac Pro 2009. Thanks!
great advice thank you , what idi you use to clean off the solder on the CPU back to the metal ?
thank you Best Regards
How do you remove the black stuff left by the plate? 3:26
I think I just used my fingernail or... left it. haha.

It is not a heatshield but rather an integrated heat spreader or IHS for short.
Ah - good point!
I did this, worked quite well.
It’s the cheap garage solution!
