      @@johnstamw thank you. I really like your clean brown color tone but prefer a little lower contrast. So if I use your standard luts with eterna, I would archive an overall flatter image right? ;)

    Both options are good, but the way you interpreting f-log won’t give you maximum dr. It will replicate eterna mode if you use f-log to eterna lut, that’s why they look so similar. If you’d like to pull more dr with this workflow, you can try to create another node before lut and pull down highlights. But if you want to get maximum dr out of xt3, use f-log and color space transform tool in Resolve. It needs right settings, but the result is noticeably wider dr, about 11-12 stops without clipping.

      Not really, you wining dynamic range for sure, maybe half of a stop but you're loosing a lot of the colour information in the process and due the log curve adding tons of noise too, also nailing the exposure it's a huge pain compared to a standar profile. If you know what kind of mood or tone you want to achive it's better to stay with the internal.colour profiles or even better set your own profile

    i shoot a lot in f log, and just now im trying eterna. i think eterna is super good profile, it gives very nice base to work faster post grading. But in my experince if u shoot the same scene, and then covert flog to eterna and u boost shadows and bring down highlights, both to the max and turn image to monochrome (BW), u will notice that with flog u get A LOT more information both in highlights and shadows. In my opinion Eterna is super good for weddings kind of things. F log is for more detailed and for more information work.
    Im loving your videos, keep up bro :D

    You can really see the autofocus hunting around by looking at the digital clock in the background. Sometimes it suddenly jumps into focus. It's interesting how those little adjustments from small movements in the front impact the background sharpness.

    • @DesertCookie
      @DesertCookie 4 года назад

      It didn't, really. It's just a funny detail that just couldn't go unnoticed. Keep up the work.
      If anything, it's a judgment of the camera's autofocus, which you have nothing to do :P.

    Great video, I use 200% with eterna if I don’t have an ND filter. But if my project is purely filmmaking based then 400% seems to really match flog or give better dynamic range. I recently did an interior shoot and thought I’d go the extra mile and use flog. The dynamic range was worse! Also, being able to see my image without having to guess with graphs is super nice

    It's very helpful. I love Flog really, but for run'n'gun or handheld family and friends stuff without a monitor, it's just too hard to expose and white balance correctly (without the assist, am on an XT3). So, Eterna DR400 it is then, I had a feeling it was gonna be actually very capable after just running a few tests !

      @@johnstamw and on a further note about shutter speed in videos as a rule of thumb being 2 times the frames per second: this rule only applies to framerates around or below 30. At 50 or 60 fps, you don't have to adhere to this rule, actually the slight motion blur at high frame rates is disturbing and creates the sense that your eyes cannot focus well enough on the fast-moving scene. So, at high fps, it is even advisable to use auto shutter than a fixed one.

    Hey John, I'm starting to try shooting on F-Log with my xt4. When I bought it I did'nt know that the native iso for f-log was 640. By your experience, is a 9 stop vnd filter enough?! Hello!
    Really awesome content.
    Could you please tell one thing. I am a run and gun shooter, I do a lot of Promotion music videos, promotional video gigs, weddings and real estate videos. I’m planning to upgrade to a 4k 60p Camera like and I’m confused if I should buy Xt3 or BMPCC 4k. As I’m worried if I buy Xt3, I will have to buy a new computer as BMPCC 4k Raw is so smooth to edit on my machine. I have a 4th generation quad core i7 with 16gb Ram and 2gb Nvidia 960m Video Card. Do you think I can edit 4k 60p on this machine ?
    Really appreciate your time to answer.

      John Stambaugh hey thanks so much John for your reply. How about proxy, did you use them ?I mainly use Resolve for editing. I’m definitely leaning towards Xt3 recently due to the auto focus and Raw Bmpcc is crazy big file sizes. Also do you rely on the auto focus on Xt3 with the sigma 18-35 (fringer). Really means a lot. Thank you

      John Stambaugh Hi John, thanks a lot. Yes I downloaded the footages. So I found two folders there in the download link, one folder named Ninja V and the other names Xt3 footage. However, I uploaded all the footages on da Vinci Resolve and I found out when I put the Ninja V footages on the timeline, it shows that it’s Apple Prores 422. Did you transcode it ? Anyways, the Apple progress footages played like butter on my machine. Also if I transcode the h265 to Apple prores 422, do I lose quality ?
