One more question. At about the 9:55 mark you show the glue up and have a small gap between the handle and strips. Did you close that up with clamping pressure or fix it after the glue dried with glue and saw dust or another technique? I hope to be gluing up my first net in a week or so.
I did close it up with clamping pressure. A better clamping setup would have been ideal. You already know how to fix any small issues too it sounds like so good stuff
Thanks for a great video. I tried it with steamed Walnut and Maple 1/8" strips. Walnut cracked like crazy. Did you use air dried or kiln dried wood? My walnut is from a 2" x 10" x 60" slab I've had for 40 years. It could be that it is super dry. Will go buy a new piece of walnut and try again. Also just ordered the slot bit. Have been looking everywhere for that!
I used kiln dried lumber. Did you soak the wood over night? You can also add some fabric softener to the water you soak it in to help soften the wood a little. That bit is great!
Musical Grade.... That's a new one.
Yea it’s a classification of figure. Holds great tones in instruments
Great job
Thanks so much
Looks good! I also build landing nets and I’ve learned a lot over the years on ways to make the process easier.
I need to build more and make it better and better
That turned out fantastic! Great job and awesome work on the breakdown for the step-by-step!
Thanks! Its such a fun build. Love watching yours come to life too

Hahaha. Thanks Gary. Dang, I needed that one lol.
Nicely done man!

Turned out great, very well put together video and explanation. I find it tough to explain what I'm doing sometimes and you did a fantastic job.
Thanks so much. Yea it can be tough to explain.
Nice job!!! I’m an avid fly fisher and I’m very interested in making one too!!
Thats awesome. You can do it! Nothing better than landing a fish in your own net
you got it down pat now make any changes that suite you good job TLG nets
Thanks! I will be making a couple changes but love this process.
I'm curious how this holds up. Looks like there's a very small amount of glued material holding the net onto the handle.
So far so good. He has been fishing with it for 2 years now it seems
That's awesome. Good to know the glue holds that well. I thought about using dowels but I'm going to scrap that idea if the glue holds it well.

Got a 2" PVC pipe and try #2 is soaking now with some fabric softener and water. Will steam and try again.
@@Statedwoods soaked in warm water and fabric softener for two days then 2 hours in steam box at 210F. It worked!
Nice net project! Do you have a link for the bit that cuts the groove in the hoop?
Yes. So sorry. flyfishingnets.net/products/custom-router-bits-for-landing-net-construction
goog job bro
Thanks!
Nice work. Have you ever tried just soaking the strips in hot water before bending? Just curious.
I have not. I have a friend that did that. It worked fairly well. The water did not stay warm for long enough.
