For me, the family is going too far on this issue, she was not divorce when alive, why should the divorce be done in a demise. They should leave God to judge the matter since Osinachi served God all her days while alive. Proper burial involving her husband will be better. Thanks

I support the motion of divorce after death! That should teach all women staying in abusive and dangerous marriages that they can still die and end up divorced in death! Maybe this will help them choose life as a divorcee instead of death and burial as a divorcee!

Divorce is not so tragic for a woman in my country ...

Osinachi had humongous red flags but ignored all of them.
The divorce in death will teach her daughter and sons the divine lesson their parents failed to teach them, that is to value themselves above anyone else and remove themselves from toxic situationships including marriage.

Sis Osi wanted to remain in the marriage and be abused, her family didn't choose that, they wanted to rescue Sis Osi alive and sadly they were unable to. They now have the opportunity to rescue her remains, they should do what will make the living heal and move on especially her children. The children need to learn there are consequences for behaviour.

If Peter is sentenced to a death sentence, this will be in name only. I understand that in Nigeria, state governors do not sign death warrants because they do not want blood on their hands. I feel that a life sentence with no possibility of parole will suit him just fine. By the time mosquitoes feed on his sadistic body, and hunger dazes him, then his eyes will clear by force and he will be forced to recall his cruelty towards Osinachi.

Consequencies of domestic violence must be clear.. I also support Osinachi's family if their tradition allows because:
1: If Peter killed their daughter, then he automatically lost the right to bury her. You dont bury your victim.. even at war that is never done.. He wanted her dead, so he cannot pretend to respect her corpse.
2: Peter never let Osinachi's family into the Nwachuku's home/compound..So how can Osinachi's mother, sister and others visit the compound to bury their daughter? A compound they were never welcome when Osi was alive?
3: Peter's brother said Nwachuku is not their name... So its okey for Osinachi and her children to stop carrying it.
4: Osinachi stayed in her abusive marrige because she believed the husband would change one day... But since he has not changed, and ended up killing her instead, then let her leave/divorce him now if tradition allows.
5: The marriage was meant to last till death did them part.. Peter called the death himself, so let them part.
6: Peter never wanted Osinachi's family when she was alive... now that she is dead, what business will the two families have now that Osinachi is dead? What is the use??
7: According to Peter's elder brother, Peter never let Osinachi and her children meet and bond with the two families. Not even of the Nwachuku's.. So there will be no love lost if the divorce happens.
8: If Peter is sentenced to death... Let the children understand that there are deeeper consequencies of abusing women... Something which he falsely indoctrinated them to believe...
    Rest in Peace beautiful Osinachi!!

One of Osinachi's desire was for Peter to changed. The best he can do for her now is for him to be born again & accept Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior whether he faces death penalty or not.

I doubt if Osinachi will have agreed with her family’s desire to ask for posthumous divorce. However, Given how the ex-husband Peter treated Osinachi’s mother, he doesn’t deserve any better. Osinachi’s family have the right to preserve whatever is left of their daughter’s integrity.

My dear the family should remember that she has four children with the man. They can choose not to attend the funeral but allow the body the be buried where she was married till her death to avoid future disasters in the family because of igbo culture tradition. The children will grow up and go back to their father's compound. Let the family keep their emotions and do the right thing for Osinachi's children.

Excuse me, the family compound he NEVER took Osinachi or his children to while she was alive. The family compound he has not visited in almost 20 years himself not even for his own father's funeral. The same family he did not introduce to Osinachi and her children while she was alive!!!
Abeg leave matter for Mathias, he doesn't even bear the family surname, having renamed himself Nwachukwu whilst his original surname is Okekenwa. Peter himself had cut ties with his own family for so many years, he is likely to remain in jail for a long period of time if justice prevails, so the only family the children will effectively have are their maternal family who will take full responsibility for them and their welfare since they have chosen to go the route of divorce simple

Osinachi is at peace and no longer can say yes or no to any decisions made by her family. Since the senior brother of her husband said their family name is not Nwachukwu, then she cannot be buried in the husband’s compound if he even has one.
If this is what will give her family peace then they can go ahead. After all, Peter had said she would go back there dead.
Although I have never heard of divorce after death, if the Igbo culture allows marriage after death, then divorce after death can happen. As long as her children are looked after properly and are fully educated, let them go to their maternal family. Were I in their shoes, I would change my surname kia kia.
I just pray that they receive therapy to allow them to lay this trauma to rest.
May God Almighty heal their innocent minds and not let this become a generational curse. Amen.

Osinachi died, the two families are alive. There is this mistake we make. Idana in Yoruba; whatever Ibos call wine carrying in the language is never an engagement. With an exchange of dowry, the significance is that the two families "married each other first" then gave their children in marriage. It is not a case of boy meets girl. It is the two families now cutting ties by divorcing culturally. Finish.

The family of Gospel Artist Ms. Osinachi, did right by using "divorce in death", most of us know how hard it was to get a legal divorce in Africa, most victims of Domestic Violence are terrified to do anything to help themselves. Her murderer should have nothing to do with her burial. Am happy that African countrys are now moving to do something about domestic violence against women. God help and bless her children, may they not suffer from the trauma of knowing their mother was murdered at the hands of their father

I have told some persons Osinachi family will not allow their daughter to be buried in Peter's but in her father's compound no doubt. Am super excited to hear the "confirmation"
The disturbing words that rings louder.... Peter refused her mother for omugwo x4, disconnection Peter did btw herself and family
The testimony of her best friend the period osinachi came to minister in lagos...
That she will be carried death to her father's home and his mission was accomplished.
    .....and more.....
Peter "don't" really have family. His kicked all his family members out. Let's hear what his "wives" 1st wife will say one day perhaps the 1st wife children. They must have grown.
So annoying how Peter concealed that. I believe it was 2nd reason why he didn't allow/give access to osinachi family.

My beautiful Barester, I really love your analysis so much, well my option on Osinach's wicked husband deeds towards his wife, may God Almighty deliver us from husband but enemy
Don't you think this actions will cause problems later, because the Osinach's children are still small now, they are little children, they don't know the right thing or action to take, they have no voice now as children, what if they grow up to say no to the their mother's family actions, let Osinach's family think twice, if they take such actions, automatically the children will not bear their father's name anymore, the children are 4; not one, when they grow up, it will be a different story, i support the family to buri Osinach in her father's house, but not such action that will later cause big problems when Osinach's children grow up, then the children can reason better.

100% agree that the family should. If they couldn't save her in life, the least they can do now is separate her in death. It will also cut off the man from the children's lives. They need to be as far away from him as possible so they can heal and lead better lives in future as God helps them.

It is a good decision for the family cos in the first place even the husband is not using his original surname. He lied to his wife about his original name. She can't decide for for herself;her family has all right to decide. It's a very good lesson for all men who don't treasure their wives. The bible says "He who finds a wife finds a good thing.

They should do what will make their family happy even though their daughter is no more.

Ladies, watch out for your lives. Leave while you still can. Your life is too valuable to put it at stake in the name of sustaining an abusive marriage or relationship.
Stop praying for him to change. And if you must pray for him, do it while in a safe distant place where he can't reach you.
What a painful situation. I pray we all especially women can learn a bitter lesson out of it!

One of the reasons they are pursuing the divorce after death might be to gain permanent custody of the children and whatever else Osinachi left behind. That way, they can always have direct access to the children and Osinachi's things without being stopped by Peter, as in the past, or his relatives.
Let's also not forget that Peter is said to have been previously married.

I think the family can do whatever gives them a bit of solace. But I really want to know what becomes of her children since the family wants to annul her marriage to their father. Will they still be his children or will the family of their mother adopt them legally?
My opinion is that their mother's family should adopt them because I believe they would get better care and affection from them. Secondly, it will be a constant reminder to their father's siblings and family of their negligence towards them.
This is truly a big lesson to all. Let's do everything in our powers to save children from drastic life situations when we can and not in death.
May her soul rest in peace, Amen.

To be honest, I could suggest OSINACHI children should bear OSINACHI's father's NAME to avoid the curse on that name peter nwachukwu. Under circumstances, changing name is allow, and even GOD changed name, so I think the children will be fine for the change because they too testified what lead to their mother's death and is good that people should let them understand the main reason for the change.

Neze, you are articulate . I think the divorce is right to do. Look beyond vendetta and get real. If they like let them expunge, annul or whatever. Okekenwa was his real identity, that was not disclosed to her or the family so the contract of duplicity needs to end. Overseas people lay flowers, like we just had a Memorial Day yesterday. How does her family have access to her from time to time? This lady was a twin, do you realize a part of Amarachi died with her? She needs many trips to her grave just to be able to regain sanity. Amarachi needs a lot of energy for the journey. With the divorce they have rights to her children who need to be de-programmed and raised correctly, who do you think will do that in his family? He has cowered his household to submission, that exposes them and the children to more danger. With a customary divorce and an annulment of the supposed wedding by the act; they should file for full custody with restraining orders. Ibo culture needs to accept that they did not buy a slave when they pay the bride price, however exorbitant the tag may be.

Wow. Here in the USA, you can't divorce after one of the parties is deceased so that is so interesting. If Osinachi wanted this marriage and did not leave the marriage while alive (if she was able to leave & wasn't being threatened by the husband), I have no idea how to handle that situation especially since she allegedly murdered by her husband. Seems as if the Nigerian govt. is attempting to make statements with prosecuting these husbands as Osinachi was a public figure and the other woman was married to a non-Nigerian. I would hope that ALL instances of domestic violence will be handled more seriously by the Nigerian govt from now on!

    • @glitzingold8647
      @glitzingold8647 2 года назад

We marry twice or thrice in Nigeria. Our traditional marriages in a normal flow must precede any church wedding. We used to get married before the white man came. This is our traditional marriages according to the practice in your tribe and it is classified as the non-act marriage . Non-act marriage split into 2- (a) restricted(Muslims can legally marry 4 wives) and (b) unrestricted you are legally a wife after a dowry is paid, this can be paid on unrestricted number of women). You can go further to marry in church or court. This is marriage by the act. Non-act must/should precede the act. This means your families consent and they entered in to a covenant by giving their children to each other. In your culture it is "my husband and I". In our culture, the two of you are the faces of that covenant, you marry into a family. This step now, is a transition into unraveling of the current relationship that would set each other free of impediments at family level.
