Followed these instructions, used the fob with blue lift gate button. Left the interior switch functional so press & hold blue button also unlocks lift gate. Double pressing unlock button only unlocks 4 doors and not lift gate. Works just as I wanted it to. Thanks for posting this
Antonio, that’s good to know. So in FORScan, it seems that… Police Rear Door = ENABLED -> trunk button on fob unlatches the hatch with one button press / overhead button can also be used to release hatch Police Rear Door = DISABLED -> trunk button on fob unlatches the hatch with two button presses / unlock button also can be used to release hatch Thanks for sharing!
This was great! The tutorial makes me less nervous about forscan and I'll go ahead and do it. Now if you can do more FPIU tutorials with forscan would be awesome! How to do remote start How to turn on dome lights and anything else! Thank you again!
Thank you for commenting! I am very glad to hear it helped you and will continue adding more videos on FORScan as I can. Two are in the works right now.
I have a new to me 2018 Explorer PIU and wanted to add the B Pillar Molding Trim with Door Entry Keypad as I hate carrying keys, any thoughts on if that would work here too? Going to program my remote per your direction this weekend, awesome video, looking forward to more from you. Thank you!
Hi, Mary! Yes, you should be able to add exterior Keypads using the same FORScan process. The prompts actually seem to be written with Keypads in mind (probably because keypad installs used to be common at dealerships). When you get your Genuine Ford keypad, it should come with two numbers. 1. A 48-character TIC code just like the fobs I purchased in the video 2. A 4 to 6-digit master access code With those two numbers in hand, please try the process in the video. If you have any problems, let me know and I can recommend a couple of things. Absolute worst case is a dealer could do it, but it should not come to that.
I think our 2018 Ford piu does not have wire harness for door keyless pad, but in the module behind obd port it has key access number on sticker. So maybe harness needs replacement for driver door.
@SAVAGE-cg3ko I do believe it is possible. BCM has an sticker on itself-showing passcode. So I have changed that Molding trim and wire harness in the door..it is left to change or modify next wire harnesses going to computer BCM. Car is already in Europe, did turn signals in side mirrors and front fog lights looking like regular 2018 explorer.
Just called Northside Ford parts department here in San Antonio. I asked about the key fob for the police suv. They gave me a price of $45 and advised me to call the service department to have it programed. I just saw what you did and have no reason to doubt you, but I'm wondering how a fob could possibly be programed still in the bag. Doesn't make any sense. I have the one with the rear lid release. This one does not have a panic button.
As long as you get the right part numbers, it’s super easy for you or the dealer to program the fobs. Just make sure they get you the correct part number (my dealer didn’t understand that they were special fobs)! For these fobs with TIC codes, you just need to program the code into the vehicle’s BCM. The TIC codes are visible without opening the bags. The fob could be in another country. As long as you type the TIC code correctly, the vehicle will recognize the fob when you go to use it.
Hey i did everything in video correctly typed key code a total of 4 times and didn’t do anything or work mine had 4 other fobs registered to it and replaced one for new remote
@@SAVAGE-cg3ko based on other’s comments, it seems that FORScan is unable to remove or replace old fobs that are programmed to the vehicle, so you’ll need to remove them separately to make room for new ones. From what I have read, you’ll need a professional scan tool, Ford’s service software (IDS or FJDS), and security credentials to get the vehicle to “forget” those old fobs. Those amount to hundreds of dollars, so in this situation I suggest you go to an automotive locksmith or Ford dealer to have them help with this. If you want to save a few dollars, you could ask them to simply remove the old fobs and then you could add the new ones yourself. Side note: You’ll run into the same issue if you try to replace the keypad on the outside of the driver’s door (if your vehicle is equipped with that) because those keypads are essentially seen as “fobs.” Please let me know how you come out on this.
Hey you just made me the coolest officer in my department haha. I can now program all my fellow officers to have keyfobs and they love me! Out of curiosity, with the fob shown in the video (trunk button one) is it capable of learning remote start? If not, no biggie. Otherwise, FANTASTIC video!!
@@connerg8941 that’s awesome it is helping your department! :) Yes, both of these fobs can now remotely start my FPIU after going through the process shown in my Remote Start video: ruclips.net/video/CZM1De0bX44/видео.htmlsi=CVQU5cnn-m0Jybxx

Do you know what to do once all 4 slots are full. Forscan claims it will overwrite any slot picked once full and says it was successful but can only get 1 remote to work that programed into the 4th slot.
I have a question, I have a 2018 Explorer police interceptor and they previously had a key fob program to this car but lost it. I tried to program a new key fob from Ford and when I got into Forscan programming mode into my 48 character tic code it says all lots of full so I clicked on one of the slot to reprogram but still nothing. How would I be able to erase the slots so I can add this new key fob remote?
@@danieln1609 You are not alone. Others have been in the same situation. To my knowledge, you’ll want to go to a techy locksmith or Ford dealer to have them erase the old fobs. That is a process that requires more than FORScan last I knew. Once slots are truly available, you can add fobs (or have the locksmith/dealer do it while they are at it). The good news is that you won half the battle if you got the right fob. Even many dealers don’t understand which fobs are needed for these interceptor utilities. If you take the fobs to a dealer they can help you. Just explain that these have the 48 character TIC code and they must be programmed to the vehicle. They will be able to overwrite the old ones with their software.
Hi there, thank you for your video. I have a 2020 Ford Explorer Police Interceptor and the set up is diffident in mine. How do enable RF in 2020 Ford Explorer Police Interceptor ?
Hi there! Any luck? I have a 2020 police interceptor as well and even a very good locksmith who knows what he’s doing, couldn’t figure out why keys weren’t pairing up
Thanks for watching! 2011-2015 FPIUs: fobs were added using the very easy “ignition cycling method” 2016-2019 FPIUs: fobs were added by programming the TIC codes to the BCM as shown in this video (you can use FORScan for this). 2020+ FPIUs: The programming of fobs to the vehicle requires a professional scan tool and security credentials. A locksmith should be able you do this. That all being said, I do not know if the Interceptor sedans follow the same year breaks. You have a sedan, right?
Hi, De-policify! I have not noticed any way to view the TIC codes of fobs already programmed to the BCM. From what I have read in Ford dealer notes, IDS (possibly with specific security permissions) seems to be required for many key and fob programming operations. I’ll post a link if I can find those notes again. Then again, FORScan is routinely becoming more powerful and capable, so it would be worth downloading the latest version and looking through the menu options. Thanks for reaching out, and congrats on the new 2016 FPIU.
@@reidthemanual thanks, the reason I ask is because I was wondering if commercial explorer OEM keys have a TIC code even if not labeled in the fob. I thought if I could pair a key with a 2013-15 PIU and pull the TIC code on forescan, then maybe I could enter that number into the 2016 PIU on forscan. A bit of a stretch probably.
Good question. I wish that were an option, but from my research, Ford did not make a 4-button square fob for this generation of Explorer/PIU. I had a 4-button Ford fob, but it did not have the TIC code. It only worked on the older vehicles where you programmed via cycling the key in the ignition.
If your truck is like my Explorer, then you must program the fobs to the body control module, which requires either IDS or FORScan. There are no other options that I know of. Let us know what you find out.
On the 2016-2019 Interceptors Utilities, you must program the fob to the vehicle using a laptop. The “ignition cycle” technique works on all older interceptors though.
Thanks for the video My 2016 explorer pic locks work but wont open back hatch Holding down button for a few seconds or double clicking either way it wont unlock without key
Hi, Bob. Have you changed the “Police Rear Door” setting in FORScan? If you set POLICE REAR DOOR to “Disabled” does the fob’s unlock button open the rear hatch as expected?
Hi, Bob. I’m reviving this chat since you left a new comment saying your rear liftgate still won’t open with your remote and your lights don’t flash when you use the remote. Let’s talk about the lights first. Do your interior lights turn on when you open your doors (entering or exiting vehicle)?
Hi, Connor. On a 2013 Taurus (Police Interceptor Sedan), you should be able to use the older fobs and the “ignition cycling” method. It’s the same easy process used on the 2011-2015 Interceptor Utilities. No computer is required and the fobs are easier to find/buy. Just make sure you get the right fobs-they look nearly identical to the ones I used but do NOT come with TIC codes.
Hi thanks for the reply! I figured it out after a while. The 8 cycles did not work at first for me no matter what I tried. I had to go in with Forscan first and change some IPC BCM codes for it to program. Also I used an aftermarket eBay key fob. So as long as it’s for a ford it will work. I’m not sure why I needed to change things with Forscan first as in many other videos it worked right off the rip. However I got it done and am severely relieved everything worked .
I have followed the steps and made it all the way through program up until til it requests the specific pressing of button sequence. Obviously, I am unable to do so since the vehicle doesn’t have keypad entry. Have tried to just click next and states that program was unsuccessful. Can anyone please help me out. Thanks
Thanks for watching! To my knowledge, you need one of the following setups: 1. FORScan + laptop OBD adapter 2. Ford IDS/FRDS + J2534-compatible laptop OBD adapter FORScan is not expensive at all, but if you find a way to use only your scan tool please let me know.
Look for something like “Honk Horn on Lock” and “Lock Telltail.” You will want to enable those. Make sure your FORScan is updated and check all modules (not just the BCM). Let me know if you cannot find it and I’ll dig deeper.
Unfortunately my video only applies to 2016-2019 PIUs. Starting in 2020, the programming process changed and, last I knew, you had to go to a dealer or locksmith to get new keys and fobs programmed to he vehicle.
I have Forscan and a lic. but when I scan the modules I only see one the PCM and it only has 4 choices, Transmission and learning stuff. Any idea on how to see the other modules? I've tried two different cables.
Thanks for asking. At this time, I believe you will need a license for Ford Diagnostic & Repair System (FDRS) software and/or Integrated Diagnostic Software (IDS) and a compatible scan tool in order to program fobs to a 2020 or newer Explorer or FPIU. As long as you have one functional transponder key or fob,…. - there are some aftermarket blade keys you can buy that can reportedly be programmed using accompanying OBD modules - you can buy an OEM or aftermarket key or fob and have a dealer, locksmith, or other qualified professional program it to the vehicle
I do not have experience with the new (2020+) FPIUs, but make sure you have the very latest release of FORScan. They are adding features all the time. This job required that I update my copy.
I just bought a 2019 utility, I'm having issues getting it to update the tic code, it says I have 4 fobs programed and to overwrite one of them and no matter which one I pick nothing seems to work, there's no error it goes thru as if it was successful but doesn't get updated with my tic code? What should I do
Hey great video! I have a question, it seems as though with my 2013 PIU I can’t program key fobs. I’ve purchased 3 key fobs and none of them seem to register to my PIU when it goes into programming mode. I’m not entirely sure what’s going on with it. any suggestions would be appreciated.
yeah, i’ve used 2013 model key fobs from the simple 2 button clicker to the key and buttons in one and the fancy clicker for that year model, none worked. When the car enters programming mode i am hitting “lock, unlock. then cycling the key 8 times” which is making the locks on the car engage and disengage. none of the buttons work on any of the keys during that time. i’ve been searching on forums and so stumbled upon a youtuber named “de-policify” which has no problem programming keys to his 2013, used the same fobs he has too in the video. not sure if it’s just the keyless entry module or what but i haven’t seen anyone else with this problem for this year vehicle.
@@reidthemanual I found out on forscan that i’m getting a “no RFA module detected” or something along those lines. I’m going to have to get under the center console to see if it’s even there or if it’s not connected or something, thanks man
@@MikeP-ck8bi dealers have told me that some PIUs did not have the module for remote keyless entry (RKE). I believe it might be the same module that monitors the wireless tire pressure sensors (TPMS). So you have functioning TPMS?
If you have a Ford remote with both the blue liftgate button and the red panic button, then it probably has the older internal electronics that are not compatible with the 2016-2019 Interceptors. The only options that I know of are the part numbers listed in the video. Another check: does the remote come with a 48-character TIC code? If yes, then it has a good chance of working. If not, it definitely will not work.
Correct. For 2016-2019 Ford PIUs, you must follow the steps in this video (program the fobs to the vehicle using a laptop). The ignition cycling method only works on pre-2016 PIUs.
The prompts are worded for those number keypads on the exterior of a driver’s door, but the process will work for the fobs. You can basically ignore the pop-up instructions. In my video, I show that even with a dead battery (no button presses) the programming process works. If you have an authentic Ford fob but it doesn’t work after completing the program (entering in the long code that came with your fob), I would bet you need to replace the battery in the fob. As you saw in my video, they can be dead when you receive them. Go buy a new battery and try the fob again. As long as you have keyless entry activated in Forscan and you entered the long code correctly, you will not need to program it again.
For 2016-2019 FPIUs, you need the TIC codes. If there are no code inside the fobs or on the packaging, then you probably received the wrong fobs. Only the part numbers I show in the video and list in the description will work. Many older fobs look identical but do not have TIC codes (and will not work).
Thanks for asking. If you have a 2016-2019 Ford Police Interceptor Utility, then the two fobs in the video are the only fobs on the market that will work with the vehicle as-is. If you are willing to electronically modify your FPIU with hardware from civilian Explorer, then you can use the flip keys or even passive entry keys (with push button start). I have not done that, so I am not sure what all is involved.
If you really want non-police fobs, the easiest path forward might be to install an aftermarket keyless entry/remote start system that comes with its own fobs.
Steve, that used to be the case. Follow the instructions in the video to program the fobs for 2016-2019 Interceptors using FORScan. To my knowledge, you still need IDS (and other things) to program fobs on 2020 and newer Interceptors.
Hi, Hunter. No, your vehicle has a certain number (4, I think) of programming “slots” for fobs. When you add a fob in FORScan, it uses the first vacant slot it can find. It cannot (last I knew) overwrite or erase fobs that have already been programmed. This means that you can only add a fob if there is a vacant slot. If you need/want to remove a fob from memory (vacate a slot), then you will need to take your vehicle to a dealer or qualified locksmith. It normally requires software and security certifications to access those features.
Joel, if the codes are not inside, then they are likely not genuine Ford remotes, or they are the older generation of fobs (before TIC codes). Did you buy these from an authorized Ford reseller?
Hello friends, I am trying to program a key on my PIU 2017. I can't get past the place where it says to press keys 1/2, 3/4 etc.. what should I do? Sorry for my English.
Hi, Juan. I’ll try to help. You should not actually need to do anything on the fob when it prompts you to press buttons. You should just be able to click “next” or “OK” What exactly happens on your PC?
I have a 2016 PIU and when I use forscan I don’t get RF Keypad learning.. option on my screen I only have a few options BCM etc What do you think it could be ?
Hi, Dan. Two questions come to mind. 1. Are you running the most current version of FORScan? This programming feature came out around one year ago. 2. What model of OBD adapter are you using? Some adapters do not access all vehicle functions.
To follow up from my previous comment....sadly, a second key fob ordered doesn't work. The first one took Slot 4 automatically. When programming the 2nd one, the dialog box popped up asking me which slot to overwrite. I started with Slot 1, then moved to Slots 2 and 3. Still doesn't work. What's weird is the serial numbers it shows in the Slots are all different. Wouldn't Slot 1-3 show me the same serial number since I overwrote it with the TIC code of the 2nd keyfob? Confirmed battery is fine. It almost seems like that now all 4 slots are full, even though Forscan is saying it successfully overwrote the slot, it's like it's not actually taking hold.
If you are willing to experiment more, here is what I suggest: 1. Switch the batteries between the two fobs (just for good measure). If the dead one is still dead, move to step 2. 2. Overwrite slot 4 with the TIC code from the dead fob. If the overwrite process is in fact working, then the good fob should stop working. Then program the good fob back to slot 1. If the dead fob won’t program to slot #2, unfortunately the fob must be bad (or the wrong part number). Order a new fob (return old one to seller). If the overwrite process did not work and the dead fob is still dead and the live fob is still live, move to step 3. 3. Without a way to overwrite the slots, you will need to visit a dealer. Tell them you have successfully programmed a fob but the other slots are full and they should help you. They may initially say “interceptors aren’t compatible with key fobs… you need additional modules, etc.” but you will be able to show them that you have a functioning fob.
I'm having a very similar issue to @dstho3471 on a 2017 Explorer Interceptor . I tried programming 3 diff remotes. All were the exact part number specified as - GB5Z-15K601-C in Ford branded packaging. ForScan always says it wants to program slot 4, but never gives me a choice to program a different slot if the rest are filled. ForScan says it wrote successfully, and the message traffic is exactly like in the video, but none have worked. I changed the battery in fob 1, but not fobs 2-3, so will try that as well. I'll do some additional research and report back what I figure out. Thanks @Reid the Manual for the video!
@@reidthemanual Hey! Wanted to let you know I tried your suggestions and I've essentially attempted to overwrite all 4 slots with the fob that isn't working. Unfortunately, it didn't work. The first fob I programmed is still working even though I overwrote the slot with the other fob, so it seems despite what Forscan is saying, the programming isn't overwriting the slots. I'm sad :(
I’ll keep looking into this. Programming fobs to the BCM is a very new feature to FORScan, so there is not much information out there on the capabilities of the software in this area. You might need to visit a Ford dealer so they can use IDS to overwrite slots in the BCM.
@@reidthemanualgotcha, but I should have been more specific; Ford basically told me that mine can’t use a fob because it was never equipped, and I’m not sure how that is possible
@@griffinkarch8283 For what it’s worth, my ford dealer told me the exact same thing on my 2016… and then I did it myself and made the video. Some techs really are not familiar with what is required to add fobs. I have heard of cases where the wireless communication module is truly not installed in the vehicle, but I believe you then would not have a functioning tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) because fobs and tire pressure sensors often use the same receiver.
@@reidthemanualwell I do believe I have TPMS because I can see tire pressure from the FordPass app. Do you happen to know the process for 2020- PIU? I’m a little hesitant to do it myself because it’s a work issued vehicle, so if I bought the fob and took it to ford do you know if they would program it?
@@griffinkarch8283I think I posted about the fob programming process for 2020+ in another comment thread last year…. I would NOT do it yourself unless you have a lot of spare time and money. It is completely different and requires expensive tools/software. Reportedly some locksmiths can program new fobs for you. If your Ford dealer won’t do it, I would call around.
@@eddo116 there are three ways to honk your horn with a Ford OEM fob. 1. if you have the fob with the red panic button, press that once. 2. Leave a door open and press the lock button twice on the fob (this MIGHT require configuring in FORScan). 3. With all doors closed, press the lock button twice on the fob (vehicle must be configured to do this in FORScan).
What do you think about doing everything you did in forscan except mess with the TIC code? Instead I was thinking about trying those cheap Ford key fobs from Amazon. There is a video of a guy programing a 2013 Interceptor using the turning the key 8 times method. Do you know if this would work?
From what I understand, the “key cycling” method works on 2011-2015 interceptors. (sedan and utility). 2016 and newer require programming the body control module to accept a particular fob. As far as I know, the fobs I list are the only ones you can program to a newer interceptor. My Ford dealer tried the key cycling method on my 2016 with an old fob they had laying around and they had no success. At that point I decided to do it on my own (they were not very familiar with the process required).
I have never tried it, but I’ve read that the 2020 and newer Explorers require another process to program the fobs. Not sure if a DIYer can do it. 2011-2015: fob programming via key switch cycling. 2016-2019: fob programming via FORScan or IDS. 2020-present: take to a dealer??? Anyone here know differently?
if anyone ever wonders why ford interceptors honk twice when locking it is because the hood pin for the factory remote start was removed. the remote start is still installed by default in all new ford interceptors but ford removes the hood pin because the customer A.K.A the police department doesnt want to pay for that feature.
Thanks for commenting! That may be true for some interceptors. My 2016 FPIU did not have the security module required for remote start. I just added the module, hood switch, and programming so that the remote start would work. I will be sharing a video of that soon! Here are the possible outcomes (as far as I know) of clicking the LOCK button on the fob TWICE: 1. Horn does NOT honk and all doors lock (my preferred programming) 2. Horn honks once and all doors lock (standard Explorer programming) 3. Horn honks twice and some doors lock (one or more doors are seen as ajar) Here are the possible outcomes (as far as I know) of clicking the LOCK, UNLOCK, LOCK on the fob: 1. One or more doors lock (same as pressing LOCK once) 2. One or more doors lock, horn honks once, and all turn signals flash twice (remote start is active but not all requirements are being met) 3. One or more doors lock and the engine starts (remote start active and requirements are met)
Thanks for asking. No, adding fobs is actually much easier on the 2011-2015 FPIUs. You simply cycle the key a certain number of times in the ignition and then click button on your new remote(s). They require different fobs though, so please watch a video on those years for the correct part numbers.
Followed these instructions, used the fob with blue lift gate button. Left the interior switch functional so press & hold blue button also unlocks lift gate. Double pressing unlock button only unlocks 4 doors and not lift gate. Works just as I wanted it to. Thanks for posting this

Worked perfectly! This is awesome!
That’s great! Thanks for commenting, Stephen.
2011-2015 FPIUs: fobs were added using the very easy “ignition cycling method”
2016-2019 FPIUs: fobs were added by programming the TIC codes to the BCM as shown in this video (you can use FORScan for this).
2020+ FPIUs: The programming of fobs to the vehicle requires a professional scan tool and security credentials. A locksmith should be able you do this.
That all being said, I do not know if the Interceptor sedans follow the same year breaks. You have a sedan, right?
Do you know if Foscan will tell you the 48 digit tic code of keys already paired with that vehicle?
Could also get one that has both buttons together. Same ford key fob but with both options.
Good question. I wish that were an option, but from my research, Ford did not make a 4-button square fob for this generation of Explorer/PIU.
I had a 4-button Ford fob, but it did not have the TIC code. It only worked on the older vehicles where you programmed via cycling the key in the ignition.
Where do you change it in forscan so that the trunk releases with the unlock
Hi, EP!
Go into the body control module. Find “Police Rear Door” and set it to “Disable.” Let me know if that works for you.
@reidthemanual that's what rear door is for?! I'll give it a shot! When the cars unlocked I want that unlocked as well lol. Will advise

@reidthemanual merry Christmas man!!! Looking foward to more videos!
Forscan is the only hope for my 2021 F650. Can't find programming instructions anywhere else
If your truck is like my Explorer, then you must program the fobs to the body control module, which requires either IDS or FORScan. There are no other options that I know of. Let us know what you find out.
@@reidthemanual will do. Just have to wait for a new obd2 adapter
Any idea if the standard 8 key turn method for fords fob programing will work? I don’t have that fancy gadget to plug in unfortunately.
On the 2016-2019 Interceptors Utilities, you must program the fob to the vehicle using a laptop. The “ignition cycle” technique works on all older interceptors though.
Thanks for the video
My 2016 explorer pic locks work but wont open back hatch
Holding down button for a few seconds or double clicking either way it wont unlock without key
Hi, Bob. Have you changed the “Police Rear Door” setting in FORScan? If you set POLICE REAR DOOR to “Disabled” does the fob’s unlock button open the rear hatch as expected?
I believe I did but I’ll check
Thank you
Hi, Bob. I’m reviving this chat since you left a new comment saying your rear liftgate still won’t open with your remote and your lights don’t flash when you use the remote. Let’s talk about the lights first.
Do your interior lights turn on when you open your doors (entering or exiting vehicle)?
Really Helpful Video! Is the process the same for a 2013 ford taurus police interceptor?
It’s so nice to have key fobs, right!? Glad it worked out. :)
I have followed the steps and made it all the way through program up until til it requests the specific pressing of button sequence. Obviously, I am unable to do so since the vehicle doesn’t have keypad entry. Have tried to just click next and states that program was unsuccessful. Can anyone please help me out. Thanks
Great video . Do you know if programming is possible using a snap on scan tool without the Forscan program ? Vehicle is a 2017 explorer . Thank you
Thanks for watching!
To my knowledge, you need one of the following setups:
1. FORScan + laptop OBD adapter
2. Ford IDS/FRDS + J2534-compatible laptop OBD adapter
FORScan is not expensive at all, but if you find a way to use only your scan tool please let me know.
Was not able to program the transmitter with the Solis edge from snap on .
Can you elaborate on this. I just bought a 2017 and would like to have a key fob.
How can I engage the horn to beep when close and set the interior and and outside lights to come on when I lock and unlock in forscan ?
Look for something like “Honk Horn on Lock” and “Lock Telltail.” You will want to enable those. Make sure your FORScan is updated and check all modules (not just the BCM). Let me know if you cannot find it and I’ll dig deeper.
@@reidthemanualI found lockfeedback horn, enabled it and it doesn’t work when I double lock for confirmation
I don’t see the two Remote Keys as an option? I got a 2020 ford explorer interceptor 3.3l awd
Have you tried the cable I use in the video (OBD Link)?
I tried a vgate vlinker and a red one with a hs ms switch.
just brought one. Ill try it. I think it cuz I have windows 11
That one worked out of the box. Freakin Awesome!
Good video I love is any way to add key fob to 2020 piu explorer I can’t find rf learning w forscan
- there are some aftermarket blade keys you can buy that can reportedly be programmed using accompanying OBD modules
- you can buy an OEM or aftermarket key or fob and have a dealer, locksmith, or other qualified professional program it to the vehicle
Any thoughts on 2020+ models. RKE isn't anywhere in Forscan. All i can find is how many RKEs are programmed but that's it.
I do not have experience with the new (2020+) FPIUs, but make sure you have the very latest release of FORScan. They are adding features all the time. This job required that I update my copy.
Hi do u find how to do it on 2020 piu
I just bought a 2019 utility, I'm having issues getting it to update the tic code, it says I have 4 fobs programed and to overwrite one of them and no matter which one I pick nothing seems to work, there's no error it goes thru as if it was successful but doesn't get updated with my tic code? What should I do
I'm having the same issue. If you figure it out, please update here. Thanks
Your 2013 PIU requires a different (older, simpler) fob and is programmed with the “ignition cycling method.” Have you tried that?
yeah, i’ve used 2013 model key fobs from the simple 2 button clicker to the key and buttons in one and the fancy clicker for that year model, none worked.
@@reidthemanual i’ve had the tire light on since i got the car
Can you use a remote that has trunk button and panic button?
If you have a Ford remote with both the blue liftgate button and the red panic button, then it probably has the older internal electronics that are not compatible with the 2016-2019 Interceptors. The only options that I know of are the part numbers listed in the video.
Another check: does the remote come with a 48-character TIC code? If yes, then it has a good chance of working. If not, it definitely will not work.
@reidthemanual thanks for the reply I was looking at 2017 FPIU figure to ask
So there is no switching the ignition 8 times? Simply enter the code from the key fob?
Correct. For 2016-2019 Ford PIUs, you must follow the steps in this video (program the fobs to the vehicle using a laptop). The ignition cycling method only works on pre-2016 PIUs.
Also huge thank you for this video
Great video I just bought a 2017 and will do this ASAP
Glad it helped you, Kurt! Thanks for commenting.
first atempt failed what is a RF key pad press 1234 at the same time???
@@reidthemanual I installed a new battery and reprogramed the car and it works Thank you sir you rock
Happy to help, Kurt!
Just grabbed a couple fobs from ford and when I opened them there were no codes inside. Any other way to activate?
For 2016-2019 FPIUs, you need the TIC codes. If there are no code inside the fobs or on the packaging, then you probably received the wrong fobs. Only the part numbers I show in the video and list in the description will work. Many older fobs look identical but do not have TIC codes (and will not work).
@@reidthemanual gotcha! Thanks
Hi is there another control that i can use but to remote start my vehicle..
@@reidthemanual maybe I'll wait for a deal for a compustar and have it installed at best buy.. thanks.. sometimes they run at 240
Don’t you have to program the fobs using IDS?
Steve, that used to be the case. Follow the instructions in the video to program the fobs for 2016-2019 Interceptors using FORScan.
To my knowledge, you still need IDS (and other things) to program fobs on 2020 and newer Interceptors.
When you add a new key fob, will the other ones be removed?
My new fobs didn’t come with a TIC code. Is there anything I can do to figure it out?
It’s not on the inside and I already threw out the packaging…
Joel, if the codes are not inside, then they are likely not genuine Ford remotes, or they are the older generation of fobs (before TIC codes). Did you buy these from an authorized Ford reseller?
Hello friends, I am trying to program a key on my PIU 2017. I can't get past the place where it says to press keys 1/2, 3/4 etc.. what should I do?

Hi, Juan. I’ll try to help. You should not actually need to do anything on the fob when it prompts you to press buttons. You should just be able to click “next” or “OK” What exactly happens on your PC?
@@reidthemanual thank you, problem solved.

I have a 2016 PIU and when I use forscan I don’t get RF Keypad learning.. option on my screen

What do you think it could be ?
If you are willing to experiment more, here is what I suggest:
Glad it helped you. Let us know how it comes out!
Ford told me that my 2023 PIU wasn’t equipped for keyless entry, does that mean that this won’t work?
The process in the video only works on 2016-2019 FPIUs. 2020+ FPIUs require a totally different process.

Can I still be done this way for a 19+?
Here are the possible outcomes (as far as I know) of clicking the LOCK button on the fob TWICE:
1. Horn does NOT honk and all doors lock (my preferred programming)
2. Horn honks once and all doors lock (standard Explorer programming)
3. Horn honks twice and some doors lock (one or more doors are seen as ajar)
Here are the possible outcomes (as far as I know) of clicking the LOCK, UNLOCK, LOCK on the fob:
1. One or more doors lock (same as pressing LOCK once)
2. One or more doors lock, horn honks once, and all turn signals flash twice (remote start is active but not all requirements are being met)
3. One or more doors lock and the engine starts (remote start active and requirements are met)
You forgot that you need a compatible Forscan OBD2 module with High/Low modes.
I only recommend one OBD adapter. I show it in the video (at 3:09) and have a link to buy it in the video description.
It ain’t working for me
Hi, Austin. What year/model do you have and what part number fob did you buy?
Is this process same for the 2014 FPIU? Thanks
Thanks for asking. No, adding fobs is actually much easier on the 2011-2015 FPIUs. You simply cycle the key a certain number of times in the ignition and then click button on your new remote(s).
They require different fobs though, so please watch a video on those years for the correct part numbers.
Very helpful, thank you!
