- Casey Putsch and the Genius Garage team worked on their 1989 IMSA Corvette and get it ready for the last race of the year after failing brakes the day before. Can you believe this car from the 80s is still running top 10 times in TransAm TA1?! Our sponsor this month is a leader in manufacturing. Check out their site and products in the links below

I had no idea the camera was rolling when you all snuck up on me while I was napping in the Viper. And can you believe I only heard one person? I was shocked to see everyone when I opened my eyes! Too bad you couldn't include video of the team and I with our cars on the track for the parade lap- that was just too cool. Thank you again for letting me be a part of one of the greatest teams I've ever been a part of!
How was that was that drive home to Toledo, Doug?
@@jeffreyoldham55 And another hour north of Toledo before I got home! Got rained on exceptionally hard for a few minutes, but at 80mph not much water gets in a Viper. I was quite surprised and happy!
I have a feeling you heard the person who did a roll across the gravel
@@omega1575 ROFL! I completely missed that until I saw the video here! That was Aaron, and no, not who I heard. The first sound was from just in front of the right front fender so I thought it was only one person on the passenger side. They actually got pretty far before anyone made a sound, but the cars passing not far away were covering a lot of their advance.
Casey, totally badass…. One of my first mentors taught me, “if you cannot provide excellence in standard equipment, don’t try it with top shelf equipment, because you haven’t understood the physics in handling the equipment in general!” Or a great racer is great in EVREY car presented 😉. That Casey you can’t Google LOL. Keep rocking!
Doug we both know that Viper is improperly parked, that is NOT a ditch!
ROFL!
You signed a Lykan model for a kid? That's so cool!
Their Dad commented on the previous video about it as well. The kids also got to sit in the Corvette. They were pretty awed and star struck. Something they'll remember for a long time!
@@hilanddoug absolutely! So cool!
@@hilanddoug how did you know my dad did that?
Dev I was him
I still have the car
This video captures how it doesn't matter what level you are racing at the thrill and sense of achievement you get from putting a car on podium with a group of good people is terrific and special! I encourage any young person with a desire to get involved at whatever level and type of racing you can and seeking out local race shops that campaign non professional cars in amateur racing is easy and great way to get experience.
And not once but TWICE did the team podium!
Congratulations, team. Jacob got COOKED though. I felt that through my screen.
If it weren't for the sunblock I brought Sunday morning, we'd have all been pretty burned!
@@hilanddoug I'm so white I was afraid my kids would come out clear. I've done way too much getting cooked over the years.
@@ScottJ175 lol, we were all peeling the following week. At least I was.
Casey, it was great to run with you all weekend. I look forward to the next time we are on the track together. I also look forward to the next great project to come out of Genius Garage.
By the way, dry cleaning bill on the way…
We all look very forward to the next time as well! Thank you for being supportive of our program and the students.
Congrats Casey! A second place win with a car from the 80's. Great showing from Genious Garage and their skilled driver. Just shows you don't have to have modern top shelf equipment if you have ingenuity and skill.
This is my kinda ASMR. The IMSA Corvettes are all icons.
that mustang sure handls great on the straight away! Good job Team GG
Hahahahha! Well said.
LOL!!! It sure looked like ol' Yeller #3 was hangin' with John's Mustang in the twists and turns, that's for sure. Just might be that those new custom KW shocks had something to do with it.
Thanks for not deleting the footage this time. Looks like you all had a great time!
Casey you show that you can do anything as long as you put your mind to it and that's a real big inspiration to me and I'm guessing to a lot of people who watch your channel because you are even if anything goes wrong you just put your mind to it and fix it and I thank you for being a great person and showing you can do anything with just a great team and a great mentor.
Thank you kindly
It's an absolute joy to watch you drive mate. Excellent job to you and the team!!
It's just proof that all the money in the world can't buy you skill you haven't earned. You go Casey! Real races are won in the corners. YEEEEEEEES!
Congrats guys I asked for a podium and you guys delivered 👏 you all should be proud nice job 👍
Congratulations to all the membres on genious garage for all the hard works that they put in this project 😁🥈
Congratulations Genius Garage on a great result, looks like a good time was had by all. That's what racing is all about.
I knew the vette would shred! Congrats Casey
That is the definition of a great day !!!!
Great job guys . Casey don't worry all this goodness your investing in these lucky kids will come back to you in ways you'll never expect.
Thanks Team what a great showing 2nd place is fabulous Casey looked so much more comfortable in the car last race. Better Brakes abit more power and track down those couple of other Gremlins you guys can take Top step no problem. Casy you teach them well and they show with there talents. Go Boomer.
Congrats to the GG crew & nice driving Casey!
That car is so awesome. Great job to everyone for getting it doing what it's meant to do again!
awesome fellas, congratulations.
Congrats to Genius garage team!
It's overly hot and fading in places, but still fit enough to bring the fight and podium -- in the right hands of course!
love ole yeller a car i have watched on tv BACK IN THE 80 S
love it - the sound is just epic! did the fuel pressure give out in the carousel? or did you switch over a different tank / fuel pump around 7:34? Nothing like a gentle banging on the dash :)
I wish there was a Genius Garage around when I was growing up. I would have loved to have been able to go to a Genius Garage course.
You guys are SO COOL!!! Congrats on the podium!
Congratulations on the great finish! Really warms my heart to see what you are doing with young men and women with genius garage! Wish I lived closer would like to help out.
Great job Casey I was very impressed with your run and your professionalism keep up the good work.
I think it would be an interesting video if you went through the corvette a little showing post race inspection and storage prep. We all hear nightmare stories of fuel gumming everything up and seems like you guys never have much issues.
Aahhhh. Thats a heavenly engine, its singing to me. I might have to build one myself.
Car is older than your crew working on it lol. Great work to the whole team. Keep it up.
Congratulations!
Y'all did a great job and you're entertaining too.
Great race to watch on Sunday from pit enterance!
Well done Double G racing team. Loved the videos
Damn, wish I was in Genius Garage/ racing cars.
Great fun to watch and see all the hard work!
Great job guys!
This channel is simply amazing!!!
awesome day
Great job team, would be great to add voice over during the drive
Nice footwork twinkle-toes!! I really enjoyed watching your pedal-craft. TY!
I Love that sound!
Great job team!
Awesome job Casey and team!
this story has the makings for the next Disney film!
It sorta WAS a Disney story. Put the car in the gravel before the first race. Have serious brake problems but finish third. Team makes repairs to the brakes Saturday night and Sunday morning, then get to take a parade lap around the track in their street cars before the race. Team then places second in Sunday's race. Benefactor John is so proud of the team he helped support that he gives his bottle of Champagne to Casey while still on the podium.
Friggin Awesome man!!!
Congratulations guys!
That’s pretty cool man !
Well done!
Your A Lucky Man casey!!!!
awesome casey !!
So only clutch on the downshifts? That must be pretty convenient. How does that work anyway?🤔SUPER COOL!
Dogbox race transmissions can pretty much go right into the next gear when upshifting due to their straightcut gear design. Downshifting still needs the clutch as well as a rev match though because of the need to match the gearbox speed with the engine.
Essentially, you want to be very direct with it. Theres no feeling around for gears or taking time. You literally slam it into the next gear with a split second of being off the throttle and its good.
NICE!!!
Class!
Good Job Team Genius Garage! Did any of the race crew film you on the track at all or just in car footage?
I got similar footage for this race as I got, and Casey used, for Saturday's race but didn't get a chance to give it to Casey.
Sooo bad ass!
Dude can shift like nobody's business.
@caseyputsch nice driving and team effort! Can you elaborate on the transmission and clutch setup? Only wish I could row gears like that!!
Man that Corvette is cool, what’s the up and down on taking it for a drive?
L.L.P. GG and CP. Q'apla!
Adorable driving. But with good brakes and tires. How don't have the ponies. Congrats.
It will have much more on straight when they fix the fuel pump.
I'm a simple man, I just came to listen to race car noises.
If you're on the continent, you owe it to yourself to make it out to the Vintage GP weekend at Mid Ohio. Its like a car show/concours de elegance with several vintage race classes that race all weekend. The vintage engine sounds are glorious music to the ear and the beautiful vehicles cover just about every niche you can think of. As an old car nut, I was drooling the entire weekend.
Hey Casey, were you out there running against Kevin Smith (KSR Fabrication) a Red Dodger Viper ACR?
Just curious because both of you guys freaking rock bro.
At Mid Ohio that same weekend? There was a green Viper racing, but no red.
Boogity Boogity Boogity!
Where can I get that hood and front bumper for my c4???? I know it’s 2023 but I’m restoring a c4 and I really want that bumper and hood
There are Protofab chassis?
That Porsche at 6:39 with the yellow-on-black 72... anyone know what that is? Much appreciated.
I tried to find it in the paddock but never could. I was disappointed in it's performance but wow, did it look beautiful. Casey lapped it both races.
I'm guessing the tech inspectors didn't know about the brakes condition (barely functional) after the original inspection?
Could they have black flagged (disqualified) you if they knew?
Start saving for some new rotors and shoes, maybe a cap, plugs, points, condenser, rotter, wires and carb kit... Wait, you've likely already replaced those tune up parts? ;-)
Was Mark Donahue or the other faster car/driver not in this race (earlier, both pulled away quickly)?
Ok, the brakes weren't the issue this time, but fuel pressure was.
Despite that, congrats on second place, hoping to see a first soon.
Why do racers double pump the brake pedal??
To make sure we have brakes
hey casey i have a merch idea.
yellow shirt with black and red no.3
no text nothing
Is it just me or does it sound like the car is breaking upper under part throttle below 5 grand
Sweet
Badass
Is that a,,,,,,,,,,Viper :)
Awesome job guys!
