Very excited, because this is a very good car to work on. It has all the makings of a great racer, all you have to do is sort the gremlins out.
Two things that stand out to me as is: 1. the home piping job, oil might not flow right like you said 2. the roll cage looks ok, but at the same time, there's some weird things going on with it. Almost as if it wasn't finished. So maybe give it a careful inspection.

No. The blue Chevy is a unique experience and has nothing to do with being crazy.
It’s a very very smart buy.
For example, the driver sits lower in the car than most cars. Just this 1 feature is worth buying the car to experience that superior driving position.

No, it’s all about perfect cornering with rapid acceleration up the rev range WHILE achieving maximum grip on the road surface so you experience all the tension between the road surface and the chassis.
There’s NO extra turning force caused by a rear mounted engine or slow cornering effect caused by all wheel drive, etc...

FWIW I'd start with some confirmation on the oil pressure to get some information. Most often the oil pressure signal is tapped off the back of the block by the distributor. Normally this is fine as it's directly after the filter in the path. But with all the extra oil plumbing it could be restricted by the time it gets there. I'd start by getting an oil pressure signal tapped off closer to the pump before additional oil path, probably at the oil filter/adapter. Or if it's already one, then the other. The difference between the two could tell you a lot. Need to find out if it's low due to restriction, low pump volume, or just reading low due to bad signaling.

If you combine all the worlds car collections, I’m still better than them.
I actually drive my cars FLATOUT and they’re perfectly tuned to within an inch of their lives!

A friend of mine’s father years ago, was a huge Ford guy in to 4X4s. But everything he built had a small block Chevy. I ask why, and his answer was just that. “I can break down on the trail and can find the part in the woods that can get me home. You can’t do that with a Ford and god forbid with a MOPAR!” While I’m not a Chevy fan, I never forgot that lesson

Everything is tuned on a car including the paint.
Put in a bigger motor and ALL your track position around corners goes out the window!

Those brake balance gauges can cause problems. Being hydrolic, they can make the brakes feel spongy and are an extra thing to go wrong in a critical system. The electric systems are better as they have no moving parts and if they do go wrong, the brake operation will not be effected.

I wish my C5 had an adjustable brake bias. I hate the factory fixed setup.. Had so many failures of the ABS, we bypassed that.. which dramatically improved the braking predicability and stability..

    • @dreyn7780
      @dreyn7780 3 года назад

The factory knows you more than you do.
They tuned it for racing but you don’t realise that yet.
You say, so many failures, but that’s all caused by you.
You’ve never spoken to an engineer about motor design.
You don’t realise that other components are dependent on the ABS feature working.
If you change 1 feature on a car, you’ve screwed up multiple features on the car too.
GET THIS in your thick head; with ALL GM cars, they’re designed to FINISH BRAKING before you enter a corner.
You’re suited to another brand of car cause they offer braking while cornering.
A Ferrari is the most extreme in that feature.
Even as a slot car, Ferrari won’t brake when you ask it to brake. That car finishes braking halfway round a corner. They’re most extraordinary.

When I was young and with little experience, I put an HV oil pump on a Chevy street engine with a stock pan because I thought more is better. After about 45 seconds of hard driving, the oil pressure would drop when the pan went dry. That and the anger of my apartment neighbors over no shielding on the plug wires taught me to not put racing parts on my street car.

Why do you keep dragging out this stuff so many years in a row?
I just drove my Holden for 2 hours and got out and touched the bonnet and it was COLD.
I was in perfect shape. The car did what I asked it to do at every position of those 2 hours of driving. The interior was perfectly quiet. I was totally refreshed at the end of 2 hours of driving through city driving.
So, you go buy an old Holden and don’t comment to any Chevy corvette owner.

@@dreyn7780 Ummm...WHAT? We're talking about a RACING CAR. It is loud, hot, uncomfortable and not a fun place to be (well, it is fun, but not pleasant). Driver comfort is secondary to car performance, which means niceties like sound and thermal insulation, ventilation and air conditioning systems, etc. get deleted to save weight and increase performance.
I'm not entirely sure what your argument is here, or how driving your Holden down the road for two hours has anything to do with the interior of a racing car.

@@CaseyPutsch yes you’re right but GM knows something you haven’t seen yet.
The old way to view what you’re going to be doing is, you’re a engine operator. Engine operating demands lots of your time.
The more suffisticated the Motor the more of your time it demands.
The way it drives it causes you to give it more of your time.
The Porsche is designed to give you a FUN and easy/lazy experience.
      Not the same as GM.
GM is serious. Serious about being the most brilliant.
Ford is luxury. You spend the money to get totally spoilt and experience great luxury. Rich paint. Maximum power. No stress while driving, etc...
This corvette is going to grab onto the road and send you rocketing down the straight. Nobody else offers you that experience.
My GM Holden has a sequencial firing order which gives the V motor a totally non linear power increase.
Increase the throttle by half an inch and the motor starts whipping the revs faster and faster and by the 3 or 4th revolution you get a shove in the back by the seat.
Unfortunately your motor doesn’t have a sequencial firing order. You won’t get that compounding increase of speed.
Ford pulled their finger out when they saw this V motor and designed their trademark version.
      Good luck!
You understand they’re cars, Now you look into the details and explore them.
