- Casey Putsch and the Genius Garage team may have pushed their 1989 IMSA Corvette ready too hard in qualifying for a road racing battle against a Mustang at the Mid Ohio Speed Tour. In car video from qualifying, friendly smack talking between drivers, and supportive competitors continue a very adventurous weekend in racing!

"HIIIIIII sweatheart!!!" killed me. LOL
Definitely felt some bro energy there
that was them catching up on the past 20 years probably
You can only push an old monster so hard. That was about it! What did you find the most interesting about this video?
Am I first
Love the videos keep it up 👍
I thought it was pretty cool how you had a couple options to choose from in the way of what to do for the rear wheels locking up.
Always love in car footage on the track. That was great.
That 'old monster' held up well despite all of what your team was stacked up against . Good job GG. Don't beat yourself up bout this .
Casey needs a Brakes sponsor so Genius Garage can do some upgrade work and we can get a brakes video.
love the racing content. You've given me a new appreciation for vintage racing, and I find myself enjoying this sort of racing more than "professional" racing as a result.
Great looking race suit
Hinchman!
Awesome work! Saw your Aston is up for sale. Good luck selling it and whoever gets it will be thrilled I’m sure.
Hope you didn't get yelled at too hard by the track :). You really do have an amazing group of students there. Everyone there looked like they where more worried about doing their job and finding solutions to the team's problems vs pointing fingers. Thats rare to see even on professional teams!
They are a pretty amazing group of young guys. Old guy me has learned something from every one of them.
Anyone else watching his pedal work? or just me? Tap dancing at its finest..
I was distracted by how much the steering shaft would flex. Has to be distorting the sensation of grip in the front. Also, awesome being polite after going off. Lots of guys would be rude when theyre frustrated.
"...by going to the beach." That line cracked me up! Kudos to you on the edits- something most people wouldn't notice, and them not noticing is a sign of good editing. If I didn't know better I'd have thought 2 camera live feed to a board with a selector, like my old DJ set up, for smooth transition between cameras. I'm sure your editing is helped by the fact that you're the driver, but still... great job! At this point I'm on the edge of my seat waiting for parts 3 and 4 like someone at Lucasfilm in 1977 at the end of "New Hope" knowing before the rest of the fan base that "Empire" and "Return" are still to come! (But with no Ewoks and more Dancing Girls!)
my man casey with THE FOOTWORK under braking. This video is beautiful
Man that thing sounds amazing.
Absolutely great to watch! (That sound of the gravel made me squint.) Send it!
great vid Casey and team, also nice footwork, tapping the brakes before a corner reminded me of some my old racing days, good stuff SEND IT MATE! ! ! ! !
Love the fact that you were wearing your grandpa's ring.
Overshooting that turn is a right of passage at Mid-Ohio.
Sure looks like it from the skid marks on the asphalt!
The smile on Casey’s face makes me want to do the same stuff as him
Do eeet
Get out there man. It's so much fun.
If you're not breaking stuff, you're not pushing your limits, and if you're not gonna push your limits then there's no point being in a race.
At least now you know what needs improving in order to go faster.
This reminds me of an Andretti quote. If you do not feel like you are about to lose control then you are not driving fast enough.
I love the sarcasm before concern so many drivers get that backwords after a crash ❤
I really admire the way you react to things not going as planned. You're a model for all of us.
Personally, I would much rather chase down the car in front of me than chase split times. I'm sure other drivers have different preferences. Love to see the track footage!
SEND IT, INCHY!
Yeah I enjoy chasing another car too, it pushes them to drive harder, then we both drive harder. 😀
Glad you weren't injured Casey, sick to see the project play out and perform
"Let's hope nobody else goes off" Yup know that feeling, been there done that too many times for my own good
Looking good out there Casey@!
Waaay better to find that out before the race day then during race!
Send it!
Upgrades n u will be fine true u need the car but the driver is the most important
Lol that's me in the blue shirt, besides the skid you looked great that day
Casey tired and feeling like crap=Still more energetic than most people are after 10 hours sleep, a pot of coffee, and a line of coke.
I could listen to him change gears all day in that box, least you know your brake limits now, no guessing needed and no inch worms were injured in the process 🐛😅
Great job Casey!
Ole Wally Dallenbach , met him when I worked at Road Atlanta. Pretty nice guy.
Oooh,left foot breaking...snazzy!
Hey Casey, glad you're OK. Came in a little hot and couldn't quite make it. Had to wince when I heard the gravel. Hope the car's OK and will race another day. Well, thems the brakes. I could hear in my mind the Garman voice, "You missed your turn." #Inchwormlivesmatter
Enjoying the racing, and the stuff in general. Better camera for the racing would be great.
I loooove that car!!
#inchworm gang
Whats the story behind the coin taped to the trans tunnel next to the shifter? I don't think that was in the last video?
Hell yeah. Learned some things and had fun. Didn’t tear up anything. That’s a win in my book. Take the Riley next time and they won’t stand a chance
The Riley isn't vintage yet, but I like the way you think. Maybe we can convince him to try the DP on Saturday at the Detroit Grand Prix next year.
Love what you're doing. You guys need to come to Pitt Race for the PVGP!
Would enjoy that!
When your crew chief said: "Send it", I don't think he meant to the beach!
Or were you making an agricultural expedition?
So, I guess that was 11/10ths?
Is the upper 3/4ths cockpit view a 360° camera? Or just a wide-lens go-pro?
Wide
I'm guessing modifications like water spray into the brake ducts isn't legal in this class? Its a really common brake cooling addition in a lot of australian motorsports. It seems your competing in a class that looks more like time attack than circuit racing. Your defiantly pushing the car more and seems you have moved your shift rpm 500 higher.
Wow, are you upshifting with out the clutch? How does that work?
Dogbox, probably.
Just curious, what is the reason for not using the clutch on up shifts? Don’t know much about this project as I mainly follow the 944
There's actually a lengthy and fascinating answer to that question that was explained to me by the GG students when another race car's engine/transmission were disconnected so the clutch plate could be seen. It's worth googling, and is also something that would be neat to hear Casey and the team talk about.
Kill da Wabbit, Kill the Wabbit.... (My apologies to Richard Wagner's "Flight of the Valkyre"). Of course, you wouldn't think a Billy Robert from the Deep South would know such things as classical music and composers and trash a fellow southerner such as a Wabbit at the same time! But when said Wabbit is such a pill, like the kind from a rabbit's be-hind, then 12 out of 10 southerners agree in such circumstances that trashing a Wascally Wabbit is justified.
Welp, you sent it... xD
Are you going to be at RA the weekend of the 16th?
Well, he did say send it... Would have loved to see them running the keyhole.
The keyhole? He went off at turn 4.
@@hilanddoug he went off at China Beach. They weren't using the keyhole....thus the reason I said would have loved to see them run the keyhole.
@@bradklingensmith "China Beach"? Is that what it's called? Nice! lol. Thanks for the clarification!
@@hilanddoug yes Sir.
Did you guys get to see the super trucks race?
I appreciate the racing content, but I wish I could see a little more!
lil green worm just wanted to get a closer look
He just wanted to be sure the cooling ducts where cooling and no better way to check it out
5:04 To start it up you should turn alternator on, fuel pump on, crank it up until the rpm stabilizes then turn the ignition on 😂
Is that a quote from a bad racing movie?
i gave you some smack on facebook but the truth is, if you dont go off in the dirt now & then, you're not trying hard enough brotha
Spoiler alert the rusty wallace painted nascar got smoked by the mark martin nascar. That thing was pretty sweet.
I wonder what would happen if you gave it just a little bit lower rear gear and added 500 rpm to your shift point??? I think that would get it all the way up on the cam and get rid of that bog in the corner.
Hi I like your videos and the little lkan I have
Damn right in the crap
So my tinnitus acts up after a range trip even with plugs....did Taylor say you were forgetting your head?
I know you've been racing for a while and have your preferences but why no Hans device?
Silly me. If i kept watching i would have noticed you do use one
If you don't repair it with duct tape and bailing wire, you did it wrong =P
Definitely losing time (or at least efficiency) from misfires mid throttle, sounds like it's too rich at partial throttle. Might be coating the plugs and thus reducing max power.
If rules allow, I would update to a modern PCM (which might also allow an upgrade to ABS, which Casey OBVIOUSLY needs,,,lol J/k you are a great driver, just couldn't pass up the chance for a dig!).
Kind of sad when the c4 corvette is the oldest car in your field at a vintage grandprix weekend.. Or am I really getting that old?
Yeah, now that you mention it, that does make me feel pretty old, lol
Casey needs to ls swap or SB2 Nascar engine in that corvette.
Oh geeez you yeeted it right off China!
Well, you drive good Casey, but what about that pre charging of the brakes? Are you having brake knock off?
That’s what happens when you are on the edge of what the car is capable of doing. Because any mistake even a little mistake turns huge!
whew I was afraid the motor trans or diff puked
He beached it!
Dude check out the new SRX racing series!
Good concept, not into the execution.
I really wish that they’d make mid Ohio a viable surface to take motorcycles onto again. 😭
A roof mounted GoPro would have made the video
Would it be possible to put a GoPro on the outside of the car? Would be cool to see the race from the "car nose" perspective as well.
It got taken out when the car went in the gravel
@@CaseyPutsch ah crap! Well, these videos are really fun to watch anyways.
I'm so upset that youtube unsubscribed me from your channel
Well I’m glad you’re back. I don’t get that…
@@CaseyPutsch me too! I love your channel
I don't think I have ever seen more see-sawing of a steering wheel in a racecar! Smooth it is NOT!
Watch Senna and say the same thing
Damn Casey can drive? 😂
Heckin-A! The good news is he drives better than he crashes!
Crazy right? He's actually a race driver that's good at fab work and engineering. With funding he would have been in single seaters in Europe.
hate hate hate to dnf
Shave your head dude
Learn some manners dude
Still wrestling with wondering why I have an aversion to the owner of the "non-profit" being the driver.
because you think its not a job, respectfully
Because he has the skill and necessary licences, which would be cost prohibitive to provide to someone who is only going to be there for 6-12months
Something from childhood u haven't worked on? Just a guess.
@@dyent thanks! Those are logical reasons!
@@john-vy1ml Just seems self-serving as though the non-profit is the way to get himself in the seat. But JYt's reasoning is solid.
Vintage Racing is not "Real Racing". Just a bunch of rich novice guys playing with their toys, and going 65% of the cars full capability. Vintage Racing is kind of like show and tell, and one step above a weekend warrior taking the car for a Sunday drive.
Yeah…. And that is why our car from the 80s is still running top 10 times for current Trans Am TA1. Troll elsewhere
