Catoma EBNS bug out shelter setup and repair

- Dad picked up this Catoma EBNS (Enhanced Bed Net System: amzn.to/2OqgBOq) and we've been trying it out along the Roanoke River. The Catoma was used and we saw that some repair was needed before any fielding. For example, the stake-out loops on the rainfly had been ripped out, the guy-out loops on the rainfly had been ripped almost completely out, the seam tape needed to be completely replaced, and so on. At a purchase price of $45 we knew that these repairs were well within our capabilities and that we couldn't pass up on this Wolverine EBNS system at that price.
Dad made a few mods that I think really improved the overall usefulness to this Catoma EBNS such as adding a ridgeline, adding additional guy-out loops and even showing how the rainfly can be used as a stand-alone shelter. Did you know that you could do that? This system is ideal for when you need something bigger than a bivy sack but a bit lighter weight than another military tent like the TCOP (Tent Combat One Person).

I just got mine brand new complete with rain fly in eBay for $85 shipped. While that is a steal, when you consider i coulda got an ACU light fighter 1 for like $10 more, it seems like I got ripped off lol. I'm kidding I love this pop up bednet system, but the light fighter isn't heavier, stores as small and you can sit up inside and store your gear inside, plus you can make it a 4 season tent. I'll be getting that light fighter next. Still tho, I'll enjoy and use both. The bednet fits better when I use my 3 day molle assault pack; It's like that front compartment was made for the ebns. I also find the ebns a great item for surf and inlet fishing as a sun shelter to retreat to and rest. In that case it's way better to have a pop up system.

An old tube sock works pretty well for housing the tent stakes & poles--soft cotton material with slight elasticity prevents direct contact with the tent & fly. Great video guys!

Those tapped seams were coming up because it was not stored correctly. I am very familiar with this tent and it's different fly options etc. This was not from the factory. It looks like someone tried to add extra tape to the seams and didnt do it correctly and also it was not stored or left in the outdoors for an extreme season change. Great job fixing it up tho. The position of the paracord can be opened a little more during sewing,Therefore, when the camp nails are stretched, the opened position will be wider.
A layer of fabric is sewn on the back of the rain cloth, which can increase the strength of the seam.

Does anyone know the dimensions of the ridgepole?
If you need to replace the collapsible center pole, what is the total length and could you just purchase aftermarket tent pole if that length?
I know it has (2) 45 bends, but that shouldn’t make much of a difference

Could you possibly provide measurements for the center pole ( I.e., total length and distance from the ground to the 45 angles). I lost my pole on a hike. I have another easton pole but I need to bend it and I do not have any measurements. I have looked for the specs online with no luck

Is this the military version, or the civilian Wolverine version, as I think the current Wolverine rain fly is a different contour that (I think) doesn’t have the fitment issues that you highlighted around the bednet base, and it might therefore help keep the base bednet more water tight.
I'm not aware of a miltary/civilian variant. This could very well be an older version of the rain fly, though. I'll have to check and see, thanks for watching and commenting, Ronan!
Pretty sure that's an older military fly. The newer ones have kickstand vents on either side and the civilian fly has a third center vent
Tested in the rain?
Yes. Initially it leaked a little where the door ties are sewn in. I applied seam grip and that pretty much sealed it for me. I apply a coat of camp dry spray to the rain fly once a year and I've had great results.
How waterproof is this shelter?
This one does well for me. I spray it once a year with the 3M Scotchgard Heavy Duty Water Shield amzn.to/44YG45Z to keep it waterproof. The taped seams were the real issue for me as I bought this one used and had to replace the tape. Some of the tape didn't last as long as I would have liked, so, I used seam-grip to fix those areas. In all honestly, a tarp (or poncho) is the best way to go for this setup.

they replace mine after the fiberglass net poles bega to dlamites and stab me. YES make a bag for poles and stakes not worth MSRP..
