If you would win 10 million you wanted 20 million. This answers all of your questions. A newer bike, camera or whatever would never satisfy you. Focus on what you have instead of what could have been. Beautiful wife that respects your hobby, a healthy family, a garage to store multiple bikes and work you love doing for a living .... the list goes on. What's more to wish for than this ? Friends and family is all we need, the rest is just a big bonus. Greetings from the Netherlands 👍

I also hit 54 recently AND I have a 2008 VFR800 that I deeply love. I find that I feel content with most things, but what makes me satisfied is knowing I don’t feel EMPTY. I’m recently a widower and not happy with it, but I’m still WHOLE. Maybe that helps me. I’m content in that I’m not missing any THING that’s important.

Blimey Dave , what an open no and honest sharing of your thoughts.
I sat here watch and listening to a guy who could have been reading my own mind so to answer your question, yes others feel the same.
I look at what I have, my own home , a wonderful wife, a job I enjoy. I’ve a Brand new GSA, a Himalayan and an XJR1300 and I’m still
Looking for something else, it’s bloody ridiculous.
I think this was a great vid mate, it gives us the occasional kick up the arse we all could do with. 👏🏻

As long as you have a motorcycle no mater what make or size. They are antidepressants takes your mind away from the troubles in this world. I am 80years old in a few months and ride an MV Brutale 750s 2004. I am Happy with no rider aids as have grown up without any starting in the 50's. The bikes today for me are much too heavy and the electronics mean you have to be a computer wizard or get ripped off by the dealer network when they go wrong For me less is more!

What a beauty she is! Thing is it has loads of tech on it - the engine and ABS are marvels in themselves. Great value for money and how many V4s are out there? We love riding motorcycles - having radar cruise and adaptive ride night does make taking a bend well any more fun, it’s about the basics. The main thing is finding ways to spend more time on the bike all year round not having more tech. The most important upgrade I got was a heated jacket to make winter more pleasant so I can ride more!

Love your honesty. Very few people admit to themselves these things, let alone say it out loud in front of the whole wide world. Don't beat yourself too much about wanting things. I know what you're saying, but it may be a case of how we were brought up. Our generation, as I'm approx. your age, a bit older in fact, were brought up to appreciate what we've got, mend and maintain, make our purchases outlive us. That has some value, the fact that you're appreciating what you've got and being content. But like all things, balance is key. We're not living in those times anymore. If you have the means why should you not explore new things? It's not to be overdone but there is pleasure in appreciating technology, advancements and gifting yourself for the hard work you've done. The fact that you realize the way the current world works, all things made with redundancy programmed in so that we buy the next generation of it, is peace of mind that you're aware. If you're buying new things doesn't necessary mean you're an addict to the system. You appreciate the VFR and know that it is good enough for what it does, so if you no longer have the means to buy new stuff you know you could sell everything else and be relatively happy with it. We are never fully happy my friend. Things don't move forward if we are. People who say they are always happy are either bluffing or delusional. It's just the way it is.

Hey Dave, we all fall foul of peer pressure where everyone says you should have this and that latest new Bike / toy on the block .
But sometimes we all crave to have the latest things but reality it’s that they are just too far out of reach. When I look back at my journey through Morocco and think of the biggest smiling faces of the locals who would give you their last peice of bread wanting nothing in return humbles you and makes you realise material belongings isn’t everything.
But it’s great friends like yourself and other fellow Bikers that enrich our lives and no one judges what you ride be it new or old but value the friendship and common interests.
Enjoy what’s in your reach and don’t worry about dreams of bigger and better things, we are all human and all would like more, but sometimes these things are not possible! E joy the younger years of 54, wait till you catch me up 🤣🤣 #itsgoodtotalk

Interesting vid Dave. I regard myself as pretty content - I think the key for me was realising that enough is enough.....basically having your health, family, some cash and a few toys is all that's needed (for me anyway) and constantly striving for more will only end in dissappointment......there's always someone with a bigger super yacht than yours. Once I got to that realisation, in my forties, it was enough of a push for me to no longer chase "stuff" (money & more toys) but just enjoy what I had and do what I loved (make youtube stuff) - I've regarded myself as happy ever since. By the way the best book I've read on the subject is "Happy" by Derren Brown, great read if you've not read it.....
PS Thanks for the shout out re Japan!

Dave I'm the very same, constantly looking at reviews for new bikes, action cameras, drones bike gear etc. I'm on a R1250gs my dream bike and still tempted by the r1300 gs for no other reason other than its the latest. I often justify my mad purchases by saying "ah sure I don't go out" or"its my hobby I could be into worse". I have gave up rattling my head as to why I want to have the latest and greatest and I've just accepted that exploring, biking, touring planning routes and researching everything bike related is just my therapy and that I'm not harming anyone and in todays world of madness it's nice to be in our own little bubbles. Keep up the good work 👏

My best mate has had just one bike since passing his test and is perfectly happy and has no desire to get anything else. About 18 years ago, he was set on getting a 600 hornet. I convinced him to go for the 900 and he has never looked back. I have since added one to my garage but feel I must try a VFR800!

I have a 9 year old GS which I love, it doesn’t stop me wanting the 1300 but every time I ride it it cures me again. I think the answer is to focus on the bikes you have rather than on those you don't have. They're all beautiful machines and cater for all your needs.
I'm sort of the opposite in that if I like the bike I have, I keep it for years and am reluctant to change it in case a new one isn't as good.

Thought provoking Dave; I’m 81 and own an immaculate silver 2002 VFR with 21k on the clock, I’ve been contemplating selling it for a couple of years but somehow I can’t make that decision….I think I’m in love with her! I agree with you it’s a great bike in every respect.
A few years back I bought a Honda NC 700X as I thought I fancied a bit of touring but I soon found I much preferred riding the VFR and hardly ever rode the NC (the NC was a great bike though apart from not having the ‘enjoyment factor’).
Although all the available tech on bikes is very clever I’m not convinced it’s necessary for enjoyment, also too many sensors that can fail.
Regarding increasing your subscribers, I personally don’t think it’s about having more bikes; for me personally I like travel stuff, long distance touring adventures and also local rides in Ireland and UK with a bit of history.
Just check out how many subscribers Noraly has plus, for the most part, only one bike……
I’ll stop rambling now…..all the best from Cambridge UK 🇬🇧

Same. I've a cupboard full of the "latest" old crap which I'm selling off. Some of my fave bikes are nearly, or over 40 years old now and I love the relative simplicity (although one's a 6 cylinder and the other, a turbo). There's no bike on the market today that I want now.
I never ride without a camera as it's my witness in the event of a crash, I currently can't be bothered with new uploads but may find my mojo soon. Have fun.

You’re not alone with the feelings of discontent even though we’ve achieved so much and have so much to be grateful for. I once thought that having multiple bikes would be a dream come true, only to find keeping them all running an immense chore! Part of the problem these days is the accessibility we have to most things compared to previous generations. We have much more disposable income even in these “hard times” than our similarly working class parents or grandparents ever had. We need to reprogram ourselves to be as happy as they were with so little and appreciate how much we have and don’t even realise it.

Wow, you hit the spot this morning! I’m a bit older at 60, just back into biking with a 1983 Honda VF. 42 years old and going well. Now own a 400 Peugeot scoot AND a VFR800-2. I 63 years of Honda technology right therea. I admit I go to the local moto cafe and fall in love the latest, b 16:32 ut I consider myself lucky. The Hondas always turn heads as does the trike so an opportunity to chat. Looks much better without the rack. I do need a set of panniers though………there see, done it again. I feel the same regarding just looking at my bikes when I tuck them to bed. Generally it’s the VFR I’m on mostly it’s just so nice to ride, even compared to the VF. Thanks for putting this video together I also make and edit video so know how much time it takes. And yes my attic is full of the old latest Sony HDR stuff.

I owned the original VTEC in 2002, quite honestly probably my favourite bike, but at 64 with arthiritis I’m happy now to ride an adventure bike in comfort. After three GSs including a 1250 GSA and now retired I’m simplifying my biking and have downsized to a complex but reliable Multi V2S. As I get older my bikes are going to be simpler and I’m going to keep them longer….partly because I won’t have the disposable income.

Hi Dave, probably one of your best vids to date. I think if we're all honest we have this wanting better things eating away at us all the time. The trick is to realise its happening and somehow try to shake it off, no matter how difficult it is. I've been in the position myself and came to the conclusion that buying a new bike only excites you until you realise it's not new anymore and the newer model comes out. Its a deliberate ploy and designed to make you greedy for more. I've now given up on all that and went back to older bikes and cars that dont cost the earth but in their day were considered great vehicles. I get much more enjoyment now taking care of them and riding/driving them than even a new model could. And at the same time knowing i've saved a packet and depreciation in them is done (in some cases they appreciate).

Riding is also therapy for me but so are your videos that I watch at the end of my messed up work day. And both things can be true, we can have gratitude and still be wrapped up in our genetic nature of always wanting that next thing that’s just over the hill. Call it discontent or whatever but it’s what drives people to explore the world as much as it is to keep looking for the next purchase on Amazon or the local motorbike dealer. It’s our nature. I had a similar issue a few years back - kept swapping and changing bikes, losing £1000s in the process. In the end I realised it wasn’t the wrong bike, I just wasn’t enjoying riding anymore. Had a 10 year break and started again- 125… 250… and now into the 3rd year on my Interceptor 650. Back to basics pure biking pleasure! As much as I enjoy looking at the latest hi tech machines, nothing puts more of a smile on my face that blatting off into the sunset on my no frills air cooled 650! I do love your VFR though, if only I had more room in the garage…. Keep up the videos, therapy for us all!

Never a truer word Dave, a proper honest video, respect to you…many many of us are the same and can relate, I only sat on a GS1300 in the showroom and was working out in my head how can I make this work? And I’ve got 10 years on you!..I’m also sticking with my now 10 year old multistrada…too many memories to let it go.

I’m totally agree, I really do not understand why there isn’t two or three modern equivalence of this type of bike, you get touring with sport. As you know from previous comments, I have a Ducati Diavel V4 with panniers, BMW RT1250 R and the hooligan BMW S1000 R, but the Modern equivalent of the VFR is for sure what would be first in my garage. I’m taking the RT to Vegas and back, nearly 6000 km, on the 13th of April, one stop each way, from Kelowna British Columbia and wish I had your skills to Vlog. I’ll do something just for the record but it won’t be very polished. Looking forward to your route 66.

I get it, I have the same street triple as you plus three other bikes. Although the street triple is a great bike, I still really miss my old 2014 675r that was less techy. Every time I ride my '97 vfr750 is a real joy and bringing it back to life after 8 years sat, means there's more of a connection. I'm itching for a new project bike to get stuck into so something will need to go. For me, I get as much pleasure working on bikes as I do riding them. 😊

Nice one Dave. The VFR800 is a great bike. I owned a 2006 version black. Was first bike after almost 20 years. But prior to that worked in the motorcycle industry so had a good chance to ride on some of what we now know of classics lol. But as I loved mine it's electronic gremlins kept playing up. 3 stators. RR battery and wiring. But that was sorted to the end of the bikes time. Where I got it serviced from the same place as a other you tuber Richy. 😊. But yes still a great bike and so so photogenic as u know. Once again good video. 😊

Lovely video, really enjoyed. Much of it I could identify with. About to tell my VFR 800 story albeit a gen 5. My perfect bike of these would be the gen 5 gear driven cams, with the looks of the gen 6. Not sure if Vtec and gear driven cams would have gone together, maybe I am being dull lol. It wouldnt be the first time, or the last.

I am 69 and still thinking of ways to persuade the wife I need to add a trials bike and a 765 to my already not ridden enough Tiger Sppirt, CRF 300, AJS 16M oh and an old project bike. I don’t think it’s greed, it’s an addiction. L😅ve the VFR.

I'm from NI and spent so many of my summers down in the depths of Co Kerry and crave a return to that... Being comfortable in your own skin no matter what you have. A simpler existence.... I'm hopefully closing a deal today on a 2005 6th gen VFR. Of everything I've ridden over the years, that's "the one" for me. Hondas best IMO. Keep vlogging....👍🏻

As others have said...its like you read my mind. Its normal to be (slightly) discontented, its how we evolved. Its the same as the reason we tend to be negative. The overly positive people were staring at the gazelle when the sabre-toothed tiger crept up from behind! Enjoy your money and your bikes. The clock is ticking. Great video...and the I absolutely agree about the tech fest on bikes being a turn off.

Corporates employ specialists and spend billions to convince the public that they need these new products. I've mates who must have the latest iphone etc. It's like an addiction and it's easy to fall prey to it.
Look around at what you have at home. You're winning and doing much better than many. Not being content kind of wastes the joy of what you have.
Don't get hood winked. Just enjoy what you like 👍

Good frame, good engine, just keep an eye on the suspension and it'll keep up with anything except the 20-30K 200bhp.
I'm the same, I see a review and think "yea, I need that in my life" and go check out pricing- we are only human ;-) I have a 3 year old bike, it has all the gizmos (QS, adaptive cruise, front
ear electronic suspension) , but I still think there is a better bike out there for me LOL.
Truth is, we need to watch less and ride more.

Hi Dave, Firstly, you have a car with electric windows? Show off.😂 We tune in for the chat and the craic, not necessarily the bike you ride, but it was the GS that brought me to your channel. You are right, marketing forces us to want the latest, but unless safety related, do we really need it. The throttle works both ways, think that's a James Whitam quote. Very honest appraisal of what drives you, and it's something we bikers all share. Publish, it's an intellectual summation of your feelings for bikes. Cheers Arthur

New bikes have run out of ideas, most of the stuff isn't needed now, electronic fuel cap openers, self cancel Indicaters, suspension settings... Huge amount to go wrong and big money when it does.
It's good to have a bike that grounds you much like my BMW r850.
That's why I like the royal Enfields so much... Pure simple affordable riding👍

Hi Dave. I'd love to meet you. We seem alike in many ways. I have however got over wanting the latest and the greatest. You have answered the question of why yourself. You are selling yourself the idea that you will need it! Rubbish! I would not want to watch your channel to see you on the latest 2024 BMW GS. I watch your channel to see you and what you're up to! If you are interested in riding in Germany, do look me up. I have a couple of bikes and I do a bit of Bike restoration.
