I read and watched all the negative reviews, and there are a lot of those out there. But the more I researched the EOS R I began to realize this camera is better than what the reviews are saying. So, I bought this camera and it is amazing. Great colors, great touchscreen, great customization, etc.... If you are a beginner or intermediate photographer/videographer you will not be disappointed with this camera. The more I use this camera the better it gets. And with the latest firmware updates(v1.6) the camera gets even better.
Hi Kelly! Glad to hear you had a chance to discover the great capabilities of the EOS R, in person. Be sure to follow us on all our social media platforms and share some of your best images! You can reach us at canon.us/y73q. Thanks for the feedback!
I can live with no ibis, no dual card slot, even the 4k crop, but I really think you guys should roll out an update to give it 120p in 1080p. My 1DX II is the only Canon camera outside of the cinema line that can do it.. Sometimes I want to take a smaller camera in the backcountry; please reconsider or release a mirrorless 1DX soon.
This is a great first FF mirrorless! When will the pro video version be available? Next year at this time? With CFast, 4k 60, 120fps in 1080, both in FF (I’d settle for Super35).
Hello: If the camera is in [A+] mode when you press the record button, the movie is recorded in [A+} mode with the settings specified in [Movie rec quality] menu option. IN other shooting modes movies are recorded using the [Movie C3] mode settings. If you have other questions, our camera agents are happy to help. You can reach them at at 1-800-652-2666 Monday-Friday: 9:00 am to 9:00 pm ET, Saturday: 9:00 am to 7:00 pm ET, excluding holidays. We hope you find this useful.
Does it record video for longer than 30 min? I'm using a Panasonic GH5 (with Metabones .64XL adapter and Canon EF lenses) and it doesn't have any recording limits. Don't let us down Canon. We do not want any recording limits.
I am not a Pro, nor a Video guy, so I am not concerned over certain items many people do not like. I like the other options and the size, for travel photo's and family video's.
Exactly. RUclips users don't even upload in 4k. Slow-motion is useless but people are adding to literally everything. We should be fine with one SD card slot, unless filming in 4k but it isn't our case.
i think there is not enough power to downscale from 6720x3780 (max resolution available from the sensor in 16/9 format) to 3840x2160..so the camera grab only the central part of the sensor (3840x2160) and write it to the one card without any image manipulation)
mmm Then why not give 6K 6144x3072 and let the user crop or scale in post. At least as an option. This would reduce the difference in the field of view.
I think the R has higher quality codec and 1.7X crop in 4k. that means that you can use EF-S(apsc) lenses here with decent wideangle.(the M50 did crop the APS-C lenses extra). and there is DPAF in 4K here.
Thanks Alex for clarifying. Even more reason for Canon to protect their 5500 USD 1dxii. The ONLY camera that shoots 120 fps in 1080... That shows how far Canon is behind right now.
@@williamsrdan pretty sure thats not true, since 4k is 9 megapixels. But, anyways..With sony and i think nikon, you can record in 4k in full frame but also in apsc mode
Hi, Sam! You can press the INFO button on your EOS R to display a live histogram while you're in video mode. The histogram and other information will disappear from the screen during recording to reduce clutter and to give you a mostly unobstructed view of your scene. Hope this helps!
Touch Screen interface and Canon Camera Connect my 200D does that, in fact the layout for video looks similar to my 200D. But still the EOS R looks like a bold move, I would take it over the Nikon Z series. I also find the filter adapter interesting. So is this a full frame Mirrorless version of the 6D series, sort of how I see the M50 as the mirrorless version of the 200D. (I could be wrong lol) I'm going to keep my 7Dm2 and 200D for a while, I already got EF lenses and my two camera bodies can share lenses which is one reason I bought the 200D.
How to access 60 fps? In my menu it seams unavailable due to crop, which I also can't find I my menu (not available for this lens). What should I do? There is also a lack of auto ISO in movie mode.
The options for setting the Movie Recording Quality are found under the 1st red menu tab under [Movie rec quality]. You can select 59.94P options from this screen. Details are listed on page 192 of the EOS R Advanced User Guide. Here is a shortcut. Canon.us/znq2r If you have more questions our EOS experts can provide one on one assistance at 1-800-OK-CANON (800-652-2666).
Not even, Canon user here....but the only Canon DSLR with 1080 120fps is the 1DX2. It is nothing they cannot fix with a firmware update but I seriously doubt they do that. By now they should have updated the 5D4 with it and refresh its life for the benefit of continuing to sell it. But nooooo....why do the right thing.
Same here, was waiting 6 months for canon to release this and finally upgrade my camera for video work. And this came out... I ended up getting an X-T3 for video... :/
Hi Jason! When shooting in Full-HD, you can set the camera to shoot at 59.94p (60fps) with ALL-I compression under the [Movie Rec. Quality] option in the menu. The rest is as simple as setting the shooting mode to [Movie Shutter Priority AE (Tv)] mode using the mode button and dial on top of the camera. This enables you to set the shutter speed manually, while the aperture and ISO speed are set by the camera automatically. We hope this helps!
@@MikedieONE That's great news. If it keeps focusing continuously while dragging it would be perfect for keeping composition while tracking subject. I cannot do that on A7iii cause it won't change the af point with joystick while focusing. I'm used to 1dx joystick for tracking while focusing and I can keep the subject on focus with that easily. Hope you could also just tap the screen with DPAF to track while your on viewfinder. On screen it is obviously possible.
shame shame shame! Canon is no where near Sony when it comes to video shooting. Why would i want a crop in 4k? 120fps in 720p? No IBIS, One card slot.. come on Canon. Stop drinking too much sake and come out with a real mirrorless camera. Not this.
they can. with the 1DXII since over 2 years already :P why didnt shoot sony with 4K60? ohh because they cant.. not even on the A9. the 1DXII did that too, already 2 years ago.
Calm down there fanboy... He asked about 1080 120fps (which should be standard on almost any body now a days). Sony and Nikon both have it on their $2,000 "entry level" bodies, but you have to spend $5,500 on a 1DXII to get this feature on a Canon. Sony and Nikon are also both offering full frame 4K on their entry level bodies, but Canon is 1.7 cropped 4K on anything less than the 1DXII... I've always been a fan of Canon, but the fact that myself and others are annoyed/pissed they refuse to offer the same features as their competitors at the same price point is completely warranted.
dezertedge9 But then nikons new cameras cant record log internally and sony cant output 10 bit video. They all are missing something. Hopefully one day we will get a perfect camera, but I doubt it.
@TJ Israelsen Yeah 10 bit is pretty cool, but that's besides the point. It's a brand new "Revolutionary" camera so it should have new specs/features like that. The fact that they left out 1080 120 is just ridiculous, it's not a new or revolutionary thing anymore. It's a more expensive camera than it's closest competitors, but is missing what has become standard specs for it's class (1080 120 and IBIS). I agree that none of them are perfect, but Canon is missing more in my opinion.
Cannon camera connect app works terrible with video. To much lag even when moving really slow. I still need to buy a extra lcd monitor with cable connection for video. They should be more honest in there revieuws!!

Do you get zebras in video or any real exposure metering while shooting video?
I’ve never seen this man more happy
Haha! Indeed!
I have never seen this man before :P :D
Solid Brix Studios I have seen him happy before :)
When he announced Canon C200
Sheez, I am happy too!!!!!
I seen some Iphone videos and they look awesome. I was impressed with my friends videos taken with it.

And a wonderful x1.7 crop factor for those narrow closeup shots in 4k
No mention of the heavy 4k crop. No mention of lack of slow mo in 1080p
He talks about all that in another video called 4K and More.

Still sad with the "NO 120fps at Full HD". You put just at HD.... Why?!!? =(
They are trying to sell their video camera line. I actually agree with you, but that is not their take on it.
Because its challenging u to become better??

Add a firmware update to unleash 1080/120p and I'm in. Otherwise, it's crap.
I'll wait for the Samsung S10 mobile. It doesn't crop 4k and should shoot at 60fps.

Its about import-tax-terms: Longer than 29:50 = Camcorder - thats why there is a limit.
@Paul, this is not a small compact high-res surveillance camera. it a film making video camera.

to protect the c700...and this is a typical canon move
Any difference over M50 video capabilities? Cropped 4K, 4K rolling shutter, lack of DPAF in 4K?
I think the R has higher quality codec and 1.7X crop in 4k. that means that you can use EF-S(apsc) lenses here with decent wideangle.(the M50 did crop the APS-C lenses extra).

Cool video
What is the crop factor in 4K? Does it shoot 4K full frame without a crop?
1.74 crop. Same than 5d4. But you can mount efs lenses, like 10-18mm
And it doesn't even have 120fps in 1080
MrDeadanon 5d4 doesn’t have 120fps in 1080, it’s in 720p just like this...which is terrible and nobody wants. Shame on canon

How does multifunctional bar work when wet or wearing gloves?
Why are the lenses on a chain swing?
How can I get proper exposure when shooting video without zebras? Does the histogram stay on while recording?
BTW, this could be added via firmware if you cared enough
