i think you're going to win, this is superb!
Omg. I’ve seen a LOT of ugly furniture “upgrades” by “civilians” but this is definitely the ugliest. This now gorgeous again piece deserved you coming back into its life. Fabulous job!
You wonder what "improvements" they rejected before deciding that faux brick wallpaper was the best idea!
@rosehughes599 😂😂😂😂😂😂💩😂😂😂😂😂
Thank you 🤩
You didn’t see the upright piano my mom painted and wallpapered in the early ‘70s…
@@janvafa9959 share that gem please 😂😂😂
"I've always wanted a glasstop vanity with faux brick sides and fire engine red drawers!" said nobody, ever.
Lovely restoration of a furniture abomination.
The fact thatmit existed means that ONE nutjob said it....
If I had to pick a project that encapsulated how much you've grown as a furniture artist...this would be it! I love everything about this desk! Wonderful work my friend!
awwww so kind of you Emily 🤩 thanks 😻
I remember the 60's and 70's very well. Most of it is best not remembered - a lot of avocado green and shag orange carpets that made me ill, even back then. But this is what the best designers were aiming for; a futuristic look with clean lines and functionality. This would look at home in a bay on the S.S. Enterprise! Very well done!
The shag carpeting was excellent when playing with little plastic horses, especially the green carpet. Prarie as far as the tiny toy horses could see😂
Thank you 🖖🏼😂
I remember all the green and orange and dark brown! My parent's bedroom was dark blue shag - thank goodness they didn't have shag all over the house!
I don't know...not sure this would go well with the aesthetic on a space ship. Wait, wrong Enterprise? 🤔🖖🏾
@@Restorology 😂😂😂😂
I do not care what style it is, this came out beautifully! It was a real eyesore to begin with, but your TLC brought it new life!
You gave this piece its dignity back. I imagine that Travis, wherever he may be, is grateful to you. Gorgeous! just enough brass accents to set this beautiful desk off.
“Dignity” -perfectly said!
🤩
Walnut, walnut, walnut. I am sooo tired of it. I like these restorers, but honestly, have a little imagination!! Does anyone ever. Like any OTHER kind of wood or wood veneer??!! 😖
@@aaabbb8812 Lay down if you’re tired 💁🏻♂️ diet change perhaps?
@@Flippingdrawers Well said! (maybe they should cut dairy from their diet?) 😉🤣
Anywho, I love what you did and blends very well with the rest of that room. This piece is stunning!
The brass rods are perfect. Yes, the black edging was the right choice. Since I grew up with MCM, I don't care for it. But you truly shocked me with the amazing upgrade on it. Glad Hugo was there as your cheerleader to lift your spirits in the tough spots. Now off to see the rest of the lineup.
much appreciated 😻
This turned out SO well. The black beveled edge was a choice decision. My desk is an old kitchen table. I'm jealous now. 😂
Well, Ive seen comments saying that your dresser was one of the favourites in this challenge so there's that 🤩 and if it works 💁🏼♂️😂
I've read through a lot of the Comments and everything I wanted to say has been said already Jay. So, Congratulations on yet another Masterful Makeover, and I hope you do well in the challenge. A win would be so well deserved.
Much appreciated 🥰
The brass rod supports were genius, and look like they’ve always been there. A desk is a much more useful piece of furniture than a vanity. When you first put the top on, I was thinking it didn’t look very mid century, and said to myself, “those edges need to be beveled”…and seconds later that’s what you said! I didn’t think of edging in black, but you’re right - it makes it look thinner, and echos the black at the base. Great piece!
😊 Glad you liked it , Thank you
We had a stereo cabinet from the 70s made of MDF covered in veneer with black edging. This is so much cooler.
As a mid century lover, I have to admit that you did a fabulous job on this piece, but I also loved the original dresser too. The floating glass shelf was killer imo. None the less I do like the desk and I know you did this for your own personal piece and that's what matters..
I binged all 13. I’m torn between your project and Restorogy’s, both are exceptionally well done. Thanks for spearheading this, what a great way to spend my last day of being 59!
Thank you and yes I think Matt did a cracking job @restorolory
I agree, I am torn between these two as well.
I was voting for @Flippingdrawers until he removed the brick paper. I would have left it on for the win! 😉😅
That’s lovely! It looks so different now without the paint and wallpaper, with the lovely brass details! You’ve done an amazing job ❤🇬🇧
😻
Love the brass "supports" you added under the desk top
That is one unique desk. Perfect for you, Jay. So many techniques were used on the desk. I realized at the end that there was space for objects under the desktop, on top of the drawer boxes. So much stylish storage space and worktop space.
Thanks so much! and yes , I love it
Absolutely BEAUTIFUL . Travis had his vision and you elevated it to it's perfection.
ha ha 💪🏼thank you
You would never realize this was ever that design abomination someone "transformed" a fairly nice vanity into - very well and nicely done, with a modern interpretation of MCM. I think the elevated desk top is genius as it definitely gives an intentionally airy look to this piece. The brass posts were a nice touch too!
Thank you 🤩
Jay, that is one of the most beautiful desks I’ve seen! Everything about it is perfect!!!
🥹
I like the black apron smart The creation is as usual amazing
Another wonderful transformation. It's a very special piece, which you can use and be proud of for many years to come.
Thank you so much 😀
Hard to believe this is even the same piece, there is such a huge transformation. Stunning work!
Thank you very much!
It looks nothing like where you started. Thank goodness! Just beautiful. I can't wait to watch all of the rest of the videos.
😻
This is brilliant! Thank you for giving this lovely thing a better life. Whomever wrecked it needs to take a long, hard look at their life choices.
😂😂😂I will tell the that 😂 and thank you 🙏
I love your very meticoulous way of working. Never taking the short cut, never brushing over imperfections, but working away until it is as perfect as it can get. I love what you did with the floating top and the black rim, suits a computerdesk very well. And I really love your quiet way of working and talking in the voice over. You are my favorite furniture restauring channel. I have watched you working away on the curbside and now look at your setuo!
Looks fabulous! I never would have thought it could have been restored/renovated to such a high standard.
Jay, you’ve outdone yourself on this one! BEAUTIFUL!!!!
Thanks so much!
Шикарный стол получился! Вы великий труженик и умелый мастер! Браво!!!❤
Looks great! And I LOVE seeing these restorations actually being useful pieces rather that just pretty decor "fillers." Great job!!!
I love the one thousand years later - an eternity later 😅😅 great job 👍👍👍
Thank you so much 😀
The attention to detail is incredible. Massive success!
🥰
Ugly duckling turned into a gorgeous swan. Wow Jay beautiful. Well done
🥰🤩
This has to be one of the most amazing transformations I’ve ever seen. It’s now a truly gorgeous piece of furniture!
🥹🤩🙏
What an absolute treasure that desk is now. Wonderful job!!!!
I agree 🤩
Another major win! Congratulations on a superior and well-designed product!
😻
WOW. It looks amazing. I'm so glad you kept the original handles and legs. You've given them a new lease of life in themselves as well as being kept as an original feature. Another great project.
Oh, WOW! That’s beautiful! No one would even know it’s the same piece! Bravo!
Outstanding. Not only are you a talented wood crafter, but can think creatively.
The original hardware looks perfect on your new desk!
A friend from southern France once called a former design in a house before I refinished it with him as You Glee. Spell I said. UGLY,says he. This was the thing before. Now your best companion is Magnifique! I thank you for believing the image you had. And Hugo for his constant help encouraging us all.
Ah, Jay, your creative bent always shines through! None of us could have guessed what the final reveal would be. The color is spot on for MCM, and the floating table top gives tons of eye candy appeal. You're a lucky guy to have this for your new desk. Many thanks to you and to Hugo, your General Manager. Cheers from Oklahoma!!!
Thank you 🤩🐾
Hi Jay, You came out smelling like roses again. A few dozen this time!!! A terrific artist you are. The monster it was is now better than it was new!! The floating desk is wonderful with the added height for your desktop computer in between. The brass posts and black edge are great ideas!! BTW i love yiur dry humor in the beginning. God bless and take care from your long-time California subscriber.
Thank you kindly ;-)
Wow. Seriously great job. It's so common to remake a vanity into bedside tables. This was a wonderful, unique idea and a fantastic result.
🤩
Gosh, I'd love to be let loose in your workshop to learn how to use all those amazing tools! I nearly didn't watch (but I know you can do miracles) & as ever, this piece is absolutely lovely. The original creator of it would be so proud now
Omg, Jay.... You definitely worked your magic on this one. What was once the absolute most ugliest piece of furniture in the world, is now the most stunning! Extremely gorgeous job! 😊❤
Wow, thank you!
I’m telling you this is the most stunning transformation I’ve seen! You brought this MC vanity back from the dead & turned it into a Beautiful Desk! My Husband who is sadly no longer with us, was a master craftsman woodworker he is applauding you too! Your workshop is the most organized I’ve seen amongst all the YT contributors & I love it! Great job & thank you for not painting this beautiful wood I love the brass tub😂es you used to enhance the floating look & the tasteful black edge to the desk top making it look thinner.. Blessings from Dozer Butter Bean & me in Texas, USA
I love how you paid attention to spacial dimensions and design. You truly hit the wow factor!! Well done.
Fantastic job. As always Jay, you've turned something so bad into something so beautiful. It always amazes me. You're an inspiration👌💝
Wow, thank you! This was such a cool project 🤩
This is a remarkable rescue. It looks very smart and very useful, which you attest to by taking it into your own home. I like Hugo also, as cats add a sensible down-to-earth vibe in a loving way.
You are so kind
Definitely mid-century, and exquisite! I don't blame you for keeping it for yourself. What a masterpiece!
Really wonderful "renovation" of a hideous monstrosity. Creative envisioning of its potential and well executed!
A TRULY MAGNIFICENT MID CENTURY MODERN REMAKE REMODEL PIECE...WELL DONE
!!!
🤩
It is glorious! I have to say that you caught the spirit of the sixties perfectly. So so well done. Chapeau!
Thank you so much 😀
Здравствуйте,как только натыкаюсь на ваш канал,знаю, что это будет очередной шедевр реставрации.Результат просто восхитительный.
I do like the brass dowels you added. They make it look very mid century modern. Very unique and a fantastic job as usual.
I love watching the beautiful original woods appearing as you remove all the excess paint and other finishes. You then sympathetically treat and rebuild each piece and they always look fabulous. Thank you for saving these amazing pieces of furniture - you have so many skills.
Thank you very much!
OMG Jay, you must have the most organised and spotlessly clean workshop I have ever seen ! I wish my husband would take a leaf out of your book . I can’t even find a screwdriver in his shed !
Wow, thank you!
Eyesore to Fabulous! I love the finished desk. Mid-century is not usually my favourite period for furniture, but this piece after all your love and care is a stunner. ❤
So beautiful!!! Beveling the edges and painting it black is brilliant. So is moving the support to the rear - it really does look like the top is floating. I love the lines of this desk/vanity. The final product is a thing of elegant, beautiful simplicity. You are a very skilled artisan.
Wonderful job Travis! I wanted grey carpet in the early 70’s. Everyone thought I was nuts. The ‘floating’ top is very much of the 60’s/70’s and emphasizes those clean futuristic looks. I will admit I am not quite sure how you could see the finished desk in that brick papered horror, but that must be your inner artist showing up. Great job, very interesting video and thanks so much for this channel.
Who is Travis? 😂 Glad you enjoyed 😉
So astonishing! I may never toss out another piece of worn out stuff again! Thank you for all the time, effort and energy it takes to share your craft. Your channel is one of my very favorites. I felt the loss of your feline visitors when they moved, but Hugo is still there! Catty inspectors are always welcomed in my home!
Wow, thank you!
Beautiful. I realized I need to train my eyes to see what is under all of the “mess”. 🇺🇸.
WOW!!!!!!!!!!! So amazing, what a stunning desk, Great Job !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you very much!
Stunning result!!!! Amazing how you started with the most uninspiring piece of furniture and turned it into a beautiful and modern desk!
So glad you kept the brass legs. They're way cool. Mid-century modern... Maybe. I'm no expert. It looks VERY modern and beautiful to me. I hope it will be very useful for you. Good luck with the competition.
Glad you like them! Thanks ☺️
Мой любимейший рестовратор Браво,восстановили и сделали очередной ШЕДЕВР.Спасибо за прекрасную работу.❤❤❤❤
Awesome restoration, and so much more purposeful. You do beautiful work, Jay. ♥
Thank you very much!
The work you do goes beyond restoration, and how to bring to life something that has been forgotten in time. Congratulations on the beautiful work and keep it up. A hug straight from Brazil
Wow wow wow! What an amazing upgrade you gave it!! Love!
Glad you like it!
What a transformation! I didn’t think you’d be able to do anything with that mess. At least the wood was in pretty good shape. That is amazing! Congratulations. Bless you
🥰
Ont dit que les goût ne sont pas à discuter mais franchement ce meuble était vraiment laid felicitation mr vous avez fait un travail exceptionnel ❤👍👍👍👍🥰
It really was a beast, but as usual, you've done an outstanding job on it! It's much lighter and airier than I thought possible, based on its original incarnation. Stunning work, and thanks for sharing Hugo with us!
😻 thank you 🤩
After watching you take on many "A lot of work" projects I could not imagine how much more involved it would get. But it did.
Glad you enjoyed 😉
The original hardware is stunning and really completes the look. AMAZING transformation, Jay! Good job with the new camera too.
Much appreciated 🤩
Used neverdull when I was in the Navy. Great stuff, didn’t know they still made it. Nice work! Love the MCM style. Reminds me of when I was a kid.
Oh my goodness! You Sir, have vision. I couldn’t imagine anything on earth that could make this piece worth keeping. You turned it into a valuable, elegant, stunning work of art!
Thank you 🤩
Well that’s an improvement ❤
You are a genius and I am so mesmerized just watching you work your magic. I can’t count the times you cracked me up with your antics. Keep up the great work.
Thank you ☺️ much appreciated
Wow! You've got ALL the tools! What fun you must have. You even have excellent eyesight! I hope you have offspring who would love to inherit all those fine tools. Beautiful work! ❤️
I never would have seen the potential in that and you turned it into a functional piece of furniture that will probably be useful for years to come.
Thanks 🤩
That brass polish is the same kind my drummer husband uses to polish his cymbals!
One of the pleasures of watching you work is the neatness of your shop--it can't be easy to keep it looking tidy. I'm not usually a MCM fan, but I love everything about this project and you've done your usual excellent job. The design of the desk top edge is perfect and the brass legs and fittings look fantastic. (Great camera work, too, btw.)
Wow, thanks!🤩
WOW! WHAT A UGLY DUCKLING TURNED SWAN PIECE! You always do really excellent work but this time you outdid yourself sir! 🤩🤩🤩
Your video is my favorite of the whole MCM series. What a wonder restoration you did, with some unique touches. Great work as usual!
Can’t argue with that 😂🤩
Sapele veneer is not my fav but it is interesting design. Good work!👌
Thanks Ahti 🙂
Jay, if this desk doesn't win this competition, I'll eat my hat!!! (Don't worry, I don't even own a hat.) This is probably the best makeover I've ever seen. Kudos to you, and your brilliance! I absolutely LOVE this desk....and I know you will enjoy it for a very long time.
so kind of you 🤩 thank you 🙏
Wow! The walnut colour really made all the difference. The end results was AMAZING! 🥰😍❤
Thanks so much 😊
I haven't finished watching and have not read any comments yet. I am predicting a desk with shelves. That's all I can think of, other than 2 separate nightstands so I can't wait to see!
Wow!!!! That turned out so awesome!!!! Love it, and it's a desk and a beautiful one at that!
👏
🥰 thank you 😉
Wow Jay what a beautiful transformation from the old ugly vanity, to your new Desk.😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Thank you 🤩
Holy Moly! That turned out nice!
Thank you! Cheers!
Your fur baby knows his job very well. As cats go he seems actually willing to indulge in your affection 😊
Your new desk is beautiful. You’re a very skilled & talented artist/craftsman and I enjoy watching you rescue furniture from the trash and reimagining it’s use. Thank you for your channel 😊
Dude!!!!! I want this!!!! Just beautiful!!! ❤❤❤❤
Ha ha thanks 🤩
Wow, learning how to use the camera in only 2 days! that's fantastic! no judgement from this observer 😀 well done!
🥰
Ha! I thought you were gonna make these pieces into nightstands…..which obviously would have been a total waste. Never imagined what you accomplished here. Your wood finishing is perfection as is your veneer work. An exceptional piece. As always, but even more so. Congratulations Jay. 🤩🤩🤩
🥹 thank you 🤩
@coloredcaboosecreations NAILED IT!! I wish I could vote for her, like other build-off challenges on RUclips.
Thank you for setting this up! I was fortunate enough to add 4-5 new subscriptions to VERY talented people!!
Thank you so much!!
I love the brass in the front! It puts the icing on the cake! This one is one of my favorites as well. Beautiful!
Amazing! The ugly duck became a beautiful swan. Great job!
Jay, I’ve watched many of the videos in the challenge. But yours is the winner as far as I’m concerned, second was Mayfield’s dresser. Congratulations!
Thank you 🤩
Absolutely gorgeous!
I think you achieved the mid century modern design perfectly. I love this upcycled piece. Of all the videos I have watched I think this is my favorite piece
Thank you 🙏
