Excellent restoration!! Doing a Google image search on this beautiful piece took me to an exact match for sale on Cherish. It appears to have had a small hutch with sliding glass doors that sat on top. As far as the mystery wood under veneer, molded plywood was often used to create the curves on the industrial mass produced furniture called Streamline Modern that emerged from the more labor intensive Art Deco style in the mid 1930s, which I believe this piece is representative of. 😻

The anachronistic National Insurance card is not too hard to understand if you picture a lady with a shoe box of old papers from her dad, stuffing the box in that drawer, and then forcing it shut so that something got caught in the frame.
I have seen veneer where there was a knot in the board it was peeled from, that ends up with odd unmatching circles in the final finish. That's what this looks like.
Beautiful, as always. I just hope the value is sufficient to justify all those hours of labour!
I don't do coffee, but I could make you a nice cup of tea 😁

This is such a beautiful restoration. The repairs, in my opinion, make it look more authentic. After all, the average owner wouldn’t replace the entire veneer, either. I liked watching the laser, too.
The refurbished hardware is simply gorgeous, and it looks great. You made an excellent choice with the stain and oil, and the drawers and interior are beautiful. That restore a finish stuff is pretty nifty, and I always love the results you get with the feed & wax.

I’ve learned from you and one other flipper the importance of taking care of the the pieces with the idea they have integrity for having lasted as long as they have. And, then assuring their integrity will be in tact for the future. H Styles song: “you know it’s not the same as it was”, rings true here. These pieces are not once as they were, & it is a great honor to help them become what they will now be. Thanks always for choosing the old and broken and creating new futures for them.
