Excellent restoration!! Doing a Google image search on this beautiful piece took me to an exact match for sale on Cherish. It appears to have had a small hutch with sliding glass doors that sat on top. As far as the mystery wood under veneer, molded plywood was often used to create the curves on the industrial mass produced furniture called Streamline Modern that emerged from the more labor intensive Art Deco style in the mid 1930s, which I believe this piece is representative of. 😻
The anachronistic National Insurance card is not too hard to understand if you picture a lady with a shoe box of old papers from her dad, stuffing the box in that drawer, and then forcing it shut so that something got caught in the frame. I have seen veneer where there was a knot in the board it was peeled from, that ends up with odd unmatching circles in the final finish. That's what this looks like. Beautiful, as always. I just hope the value is sufficient to justify all those hours of labour! I don't do coffee, but I could make you a nice cup of tea 😁
The transition was impressive. In the be3ginning I wondered if it was different pieces cobbled together. By the end it made sense. And the color choices really worked. Nice piece. Love to see old things made beautiful and saved. Glad Rufus hasn't fallen down on his supervisory obligations.....
This is such a beautiful restoration. The repairs, in my opinion, make it look more authentic. After all, the average owner wouldn’t replace the entire veneer, either. I liked watching the laser, too. The refurbished hardware is simply gorgeous, and it looks great. You made an excellent choice with the stain and oil, and the drawers and interior are beautiful. That restore a finish stuff is pretty nifty, and I always love the results you get with the feed & wax.
The next project is "Cats of Flippingdrawers" Calendar -- Rufus and company lounging around looking nonchalant and cute on all your gorgeous restorations!
OH. MY. GOODNESS!! You honestly FLOOR me! This turned out amazing and honestly, I didn't think it had a chance...but sure enough.... "2,000 years later" you had it!
The restoration of the exterior is stunning and you did a perfect job making it beautiful. Equally impressive is the detailed attention you give to the interior, underside, and back of each piece. The total restoration/refinish is beautiful.
The restoration of this sideboard is fabulous. Your patience in finding all of the tiny repairs needed shows off your skills and talent in restoring furniture. Thank you for sharing.
I wonder if a local history museum would or could use the social security card. I've always found bits of history like that interesting! Lovely restoration as always. 💜
Your salvaging the top veneer is nothing short of miraculous! I looked very hard at the final result and couldn't see anything worth noting. If the repairs are visible "in person", they can't but give the piece character. I love watching you work.
I wish I could adequately express my amazement at how beautifully you have restored this piece. A pile of junk to something anyone would be proud to have in their home. Bravo!
You brought her back to life! Wonderful job! Very clever to use a laser to remove the burn spots . You just boggle my mind sometimes. Restore a finish is one of my favorite products of all time. Thanks for sharing this with us!💜
Initially I thought this piece could not possibly be saved. But then you let us know that Rufus would be supervising and I knew it would be exquisite. 🐈⬛
You are a very talented young man. I appreciate seeing how you use various tools and equipment to restore. I agree that it is an art. I love all the videos I have viewed and your furniture is beautiful. I went back to some of the older videos and it is cool to see how your talent and ability have grown. I always get a smile from the neighborhood cats who love to inspect your labor!😂 keep restoring the old, new and dumped treasures you find.
I think the repairs look great. They honor the history of the piece; they are a tidy, neat repair that says, "I have loved a little but I still look good!" I really like your esthetic; you have a knack for accentuating the natural beauty of each piece. Also, your neighbors have great taste in cats--they are all so beautiful!
BEAUTIFUL!!! I love that you try to stay as true to the original piece as possible. I also enjoy your attention to detail! You always pick such interesting pieces! I love Art Deco! Well done! 👏👏👏👏❤
Beautiful! I love your term 'sympathetic restoration' ! You and Transcend Furniture Gallery do such beautiful work - and neither of you is US! I can't hope to buy your projects - just admire from afar! [Amazon Wish list doesn't load btw]
I agree with your choices. They are my favourites because they do fantastic work, teach as they go, and have soothing rather than screeching voices. If you think they are far from you, try from a different hemisphere, in more ways than one.
Jay: this is a most interesting Art Deco piece. It’s remarkable the work you did put into it. A beautiful restoration piece. A person with unique taste will love it. I hope it has sold already. Carol from California
It is just lovely and I especially love the match you made with the walnut stain. And then the “chocolate” stuff on top was a great finishing touch. And just as I was missing the beeswax orange substance, there you were using it on the inside pieces. I think the laser cut circles were a genius move and turned out nicely. And bonus kitty!!!
The small dings and discolorations that remain are part of the history of the piece. I think it’s lovely that you get it back as close to original as possible.
Your attention to detail is commendable. I really love watching you work & have never seen one project I didn’t like, no matter how it turns out. The way you figure things out, how you fix what seems (visually) to be unfixable…I’m truly amazed. Well done! And keep up the wonderful, beautiful work. ❤️👍🏼😁
Jay, as always, this turned out just beautiful!! I have a feeling, that somewhere along the way the original cabinet doors were damaged and then replaced with ones that were "close enough". Maybe that's why they were trimmed with solid oak. This may not be it's first sympathetic restoration. Just a theory...
Watching from Australia. I love that you give every piece the detail it deserves...wonderful restoration ❤ Love the little humorous comments too...great work!
I’m always impressed with your work. And the choices you make on your projects always turn out great. This one was a great find and you’ve done it justice once again
I know some may think all the work you do on the parts that don't show (bottom, back, etc) is unnecessary but it is your attention to detail that I really appreciate and why of all the furniture guys on RUclips I watch you. As usual great job!
Wow, another superb transformation/restoration-now I’ve seen it to the end - maybe those doors are the originals after all. I really love the hardware - such pretty details and because of the size of them they just make this piece. Great job as usual. Really like the colour and finish too. ❤
Jay! What a gorgeous piece well, when you were done with her! So many great tips today that even I can tuck away. I love your work. You are such an inspiration. Once again, thanks for sharing.
Interesting and unusual piece. The door shape has me baffled, as do the legs/base. You do manage to find interesting things, and as usual, the finished piece speaks for itself. Well done!
You have such vision and faith! Even when finished to your amazingly high standards it still doesn't float my boat. But then, what do I know? Those circular lazer cut veneer patches were absolute genius and respected the history of this unusual piece in a way I've never seen before. Thanks again for a really informative and instructional video. Bless you.
Thank you thank you for always teaching how to create pieces that are done correctly. I’ve learned from you and one other flipper the importance of taking care of the the pieces with the idea they have integrity for having lasted as long as they have. And, then assuring their integrity will be in tact for the future. H Styles song: “you know it’s not the same as it was”, rings true here. These pieces are not once as they were, & it is a great honor to help them become what they will now be. Thanks always for choosing the old and broken and creating new futures for them.
I love that you didn't replace the veneer. You preserved the history of the piece. Replacing veneer is like buying a reproduction of the original. Meh - not my favorite. Your eye for making furniture beautiful again is amazing.
This is amazing! When I first saw this piece, I wondered why you would waste time on it. After you finished, I understood. It is beautiful! You do such lovely work.
I love that you do a 'sympathetic' restoration.. leaving some of the old and repairing just what needed to be done, keeps the piece close to original.. and lets is history still show.. great job and it looks wonderful.. another piece that will get new life for many years to come hopefully.
Wow night and day. Gorgeous.

Thank you. I would have continued wondering. I don’t have the patience…….. lol
I would love to see the link to the piece on “Cherish.” What a lovely piece! Subbed.
Art Deco? More like Art Crapo.

I love watching the small repairs. It's art.
Very fine craftsmanship, NOT art. "Art" means something else. I DO AGREE that he is one of the finest.
Artistic craftsmanship
@@jenn976I think you put it best. He doesn't just store furniture, he breathes life into each piece.🇦🇺😊❤️
You don't only repair beautiful furniture, you resurrect it! Amazing results!

Thank you and yes, only supervising, no work whatsoever 😂
Rufus is no dummy!
Absolutely Beautiful, Thank You.
Thank you too!

Amazing transformation. You’d never guess that this was the same piece.
The repairs you made are so flawless. Impeccable job. And as always, I love your fuzzy friends coming for snugs.

Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks!
Thank you beautiful person 🥰
Such an understatement that the drawers look “pretty nice”. They are fabulous 🎉
thank you 🥰
Another amazing restoration Jay.
Glad you like it
Wow. These are my favorites that you do, restoring something that's been essentially destroyed back to its original glory.
Thank you!

What a fabulous restoration! I've said it before but it bears repeating. Your attention to detail is second to none.🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Beautiful piece. Restoring the top vs. replacing the veneer keeps a part of its history, and I respect that.

The repairs only seem to stand out because you know where they are. Beautiful job.
