The kind of work you do is very much determined by the condition of the piece when you began, problems you run into while working on it, and expectations. I think this piece turned out beautifully. I wouldn't change a thing.
Totally agree with you. It's easy to say what we would do when we don't
have that piece of furniture, and as we saw, that was a tremendous amount
of work. I think it is outstandingly beautiful.

Wonderfully done! By the way, some of us, most of the time, have a preference for darker wood. Often times for me, it conjures up mysterious, moody libraries, with lots of old leather bound classic books, a warm fire in a fireplace, and a comfy, squashy chair to curl up in.

What an amazing job you have done with this restoration. I have NEVER been the least bit disappointed with the artistic decisions you have made in any of your incredible projects. You have an incredible eye and sensibility in breathing new life into neglected and forgotten pieces. I VERY much enjoy watching you work, as you are a rare breed of craftsman.

The plummy brown - almost chocolate - with the gold of the natural oak reminds me of the elegance of front of house drapes in an art deco cinema. Glamorous.

This is stunning! I love your spin on a classic. A side note about people’s comments: respond only to those who say something helpful. There will always be the newly retired fellow, sitting on the couch, making up crap to tell you. You started on a city street, reimagining clapped out furniture that was beyond help. Your skills build daily and if people can’t see that, that’s on them. Keep up the good work and say hi to Mr. Mayfield too!
Not necessarily newly retired, it could be a 35yo upstart who just did an internet search.

I love how you did this drinks cabinet. It looks modern, but still shows it's beautiful Art Deco heritage. But I found myself getting too distracted by your equally beautiful kitty, He's sooo funny! He's off his head!🤣🤣🤣

He's a kitten! They generally have two speeds: manic and asleep! As all cat parents know, both can occur rapidly in sequence!
I really like how this piece turned out. I think the two-tone wood color makes the decorative parts stand out more than before, but without being too “busy.” It’s gorgeous now!

The new assistant is a bit of a distraction! Loved spotting him chasing his tail & emerging from under his bed. He is certainly a character!
I was distracted trying to see if I could find the cat in the video, like Where's Waldo, lol.

You know you can never please everybody, no matter what you do! So, just do it the way you think it’s best for each particular piece. I just love the way you have done it. The contra colours idea is making the piece so outstanding. Again, great job!

All that matters is you're creating enough beautiful items that not only make you feel good, they make others feel good enough to buy them, and to support you via watching how you create them on this channel. We appreciate you enough to speak out in your defense - look at all these comments! So many are in support of you. And your family, including your "assistants", of course, matter hugely, too!

I really love this piece in this video. I completely understand that not everything is both fixable *and able to stay to them style and era of the piece. This is such a gorgeous set of solutions to a few problems. It really honors the incredible art deco heart of the cabinet.

Your work is so inspiring. I am amazed by how in the old days they made furniture to last. There are charm and soul in old furniture. Sometimes it take magician skills to fix problems with old wood. You did a great job. 😊

The cabinet is beautiful! Your work is amazing, so don’t let the critics get you down. You are a true craftsman. Most of us would simply clean up a piece like this and paint it rather than take the time to restore it. Bravo!

I love Art Deco and that cabinet was so dark you could hardly tell it had any pretty touches. I really like how you picked out the items that make it unique and accented them with a natural finish. It looks even more Deco than when you began. I had a hard time paying attention to the process because of looking for the kitten or watching his silliness. Now it will be an episode of Where's Mango. I hope Hugo is not insulted that there is a new shop foreman in training.
