I agree. Those legs look more Victorian than Bauhaus or mid-century modern. I would love to know what the original legs were. Judging by the look of it, this may well have been a custom piece. I wonder if it were part of a whole suite of dining room furniture. Seeing the complete room would be a sight to behold

You're 100% correct. It's a sideboard by Beautility, which was an English company specializing in higher end pieces. It would've had standard peg legs or probably slanted pegs which you would see on nearly every mid century piece of this type. If it had been fully restored to it's former glory it would be worth $2,000ish. With those strange legs it's a $500 piece, or whatever someone is willing to pay. In original pristine condition it would be $10,000+.

After a rough day it was a lovely surprise to see you've posted another cracking video Jay. What a transformation!!! My grandmother had something like this around the late 60s early 70s. It just goes to show that the quality of a good piece of furniture never goes away. Despite what it may go through over the intervening years and even when it looks like it really should just be firewood someone like you comes along sees the beauty that these 'old bones' once had and cares enough to say 'no, now is not your time to go I'll make you shine for a little longer. I wish more people would see the beauty and potential in the older, the broken and the run down. In fact as I'm typing this I'm thinking that if society treated each other with as much care and respect as you did this sideboard how much nicer existence would be for us all.
As I said it's been a crappy day so thanks for taking my mind off things for a while.

You returned this piece to its best state. It is lucky you had at it before someone just slathered it black.

I love everything about this unit as it is 😂 I work on so many old and unusual pieces that sometimes I just keep them as they are after I clean them up. Months or even years later, I start work on them 😊

I am 74 and I love restoring furniture. I also enjoy building furniture. I have never even considered it worthwhile restoring anything made with particle board. I live in Tasmania and the local rubbish tip sells old timber and furniture. I therefore have a great supply of well seasoned wood. My house is built in 1905 and the furniture I make represents the age of the house. I have found many pieces of furniture which I have restored. Most are in a sound condition and only require the original shellac softened with alcohol and recoated with new shellac. Working with veneered chip board is a bit daunting for me but your results are quite amazing. I can now see there might be some thing worthwhile in mid century Furniture.
I think it depends on when you were born and what is available to scrounge in your area. Thanks for your video
    Geoff
