    With a little bit of upgrades to the redcats front end and a set of beadlock wheels and new tires, it really handles like a whole other crawler. I upgraded mine along with some desert lizards as well and I love how it's at right now. Going to be adding a little bit more weight to the front, but it crawls so much better than stock.

      Thanks, glad you're enjoying it. We've done a little with ours, too. My favourite upgrades for this one were getting the electronics sorted:

      And that day where we tried 11 different tires on the rig, that was a good day :)

    for the price range i think it would be better suited to opt in the gen8 for the axe edition since the trx4 and scx10.3 are both in the 500 range vs gen8 in the 300 range

      Not a bad idea, yes! Though since doing this video we've looked at a lot more crawlers and the amount of choice out there is dizzying!
      I'm working on an idea for a comprehensive video on how to choose the best crawler for what you want, whether it's scale driving, trail use, pure rock crawling, fun on a budget, etc etc.
      In the meantime, I've got an article on my site that covers it: rc-tnt.com/rc-crawler-reviews/what-is-the-best-rc-rock-crawler/

    This was fun to watch. I have a Gen8 v1. The Redcat certainly looks too high center of gravity in this comparison. And it is just me, or does the Traxxas seem to have greater articulation in its suspension? On the Redcat I found tucking the bumpers in helps; I cut the depth of my front bumper, so I could bring in the equivalent of two notches. I also would get hung up on the rock sliders. I appreciate your comments on needing to change the motor and ESC. I went with a 35T motor, and I love it. Drag brake is awesome even with stock ESC.

    • @RCTNT
      @RCTNT  2 года назад

      Great observations. I don't know about the TRX4 having more travel but it's possible. Those shocks are very good (they're now in the Phoenix - ruclips.net/video/6NQmFtJF0hk/видео.html ).
      I've done a few upgrade videos on the Gen 8. It's running a higher turn motor now and the stock ESC has completely sufficient drag brake, just as you've found (ruclips.net/video/k0gScfI2jlQ/видео.html ).
      I've also tucked the bumpers in and added a little extra weight down low.
      It's a solid performer now, aside from its fairly ordinary OEM tires.
      Cheers :)

      You can, but not as easily as with a higher turn motor. I highly recommend the change - but by all means run it stock for a while first. Definitely its a great truck to enjoy in stock form. I'm just looking for ways to improve it further :)

    Great comparison! Would recommend putting a timer of each vehicle on display to keep track of when the timer is running, if it's not too much of a hassle (I reckon it is...)
    Just to get all the main contenders of this type of rig, any chance to ask a friend to lend you an Element Enduro and/or a Gmade Buffalo in there next time to measure up (with one of these contenders as a reference on the same day) as well?
    Also, a final impressions on how different each was to drive would be very informative. For instance, strengths and weaknesses, ideal or worse terrains and situations to run them on, etc.

    • @RCTNT
      @RCTNT  3 года назад +1

      These are all great ideas, thank you! I've been thinking about a timer for all these, can't be too hard to add another frame on top and track it with the video.. Four different kinds of venomous snake spotted here so far, spiders (I've been bitten on camera, in the Capra vs Gatekeeper video - I think I left it in, can't recall), etc. Wedge Tailed Eagle family live at the end of the property and a pair of goshawks nearby also, as well as kookaburras, choughs and others. @RCTNT  3 года назад

      @@danweiss4928 the Gen 8 V2 is somewhat similar in quality to the TRX4, believe it or not. The TRX is more refined, but you pay for it. The axial is overpriced.
      If you're on a budget and just want a trail truck, get the Gen 8 V2.
      If you want to get a lot out of crawling on the rocks and on the trails, TRX4 for you (from these three).

    • @RCTNT
      @RCTNT  Год назад +1

      Well, without knowing the budget, scale, expected terrain, how big your son is (little kid, teen, adult), etc, it's hard to say.
      You opened this discussion suggesting I should know the trx4 is a trail truck, implying I don't know what I'm talking about, so I'm not sure if this is a genuine question or not...
      But if it is, I have a few suggestions:
      Cross RC EMO X or EMO AT4. Reviews for both on my channel here. Capable, reliable.
      Element RC Ecto, Sendero or Bushido. Solid electronics and running gear, very capable, should last well.
      I'd suggest a TRX4 but the steering servo is a weakness and there are replacements for the stock servo that are cheaper and better. Same with the ESC. So maybe not that, but if you can get it for a good price, then consider it too.
      The RGT Rescuer is excellent.
      Scx10 III Gladiator or JLU are both solid. Base Camp and even the Deadbolt, and on that cheaper note, the Element Enduro SE.
      I have detailed reviews for all of these on my channel. There are write ups on my website too, and even an article called What's the Best RC Car? And also one called What Is The Best RC Rock Crawler? All of this is on rc-tnt.com.
      Hope that helps get you started. Cheers

      @@RCTNTI will like to say I’m sorry if you took my statement personal or an insult on your knowledge of the subject matter. My statement said “ people “ because I was referring to others buying the TRX4 defender 1/10 and tipping all over the place and complaining about the rig. This happens very often .. thanks for going into detail about the best RC.. my kids are pre-teen and they have fun with scx24 and wanting something bigger .. my budget would be around $700 if I had to pin it down that way ideally $500-700. I would be looking for quality since I would have no interest in upgrades for the kids but have it capable in little novice hands .. I’ll check out all the cars you mentioned. You didn’t mention the redcat gen 8 v2 , so I will truly take it as a true reason why you didn’t.. I actually take your opinion seriously given your content videos as a subject matter expert. Far from what you thought earlier actually lol.. thanks for everything

    • @RCTNT
      @RCTNT  Год назад +1

      I get a comment like the first one every so often ("people should know" etc) and I could definitely give more grace in my replies. All good.
      I didn't mention the Gen 8 V2 because you said "zero intention on mods" and "OEM parts". Well, the motor in mine sucked but even worse was the servo.
      See this vid: ruclips.net/video/k0gScfI2jlQ/видео.html
      Get those two cheapish things fixed and you have a truly durable fun machine - it'd be one of the best value options out of the entire list I gave you, in fact. But the "no mods" disqualified it. For pre-teens, it'll want to be tough, too.
      If you rethink your position on mods and just get a good basic servo into the Gen 8 V2 (like this guy: asiate.es/aff?l=190716&i=76070 ) you'll have a durable machine there. Cheers :)

    • @RCTNT
      @RCTNT  3 года назад +1

      No need to be biased here - look how well the stock Sport kit performed! Yes, started with a decent servo, but many people have that in their kit build. It scored competitively in stock form and with the expensive tires (ie. Sport may not benefit from this 'upgrade') - mod money might be better spent on over-driving the front, for example.
      I'll do some video testing with next upgrades for the sport, with before and after data. Stay tuned!
