"It's not that there's more people, it's all that excess air." Good god he's so quick on his feet with humor, and makes it look effortless. So glad to learn he's coming back to TV.
That's virtuosity. We see the culmination. He's been at this for (approaching) 50 years.
We (not saying you; the collective we) sometimes forget "prep" time.
That said, I couldn't dunk a bball w/o a trampoline with 200 yrs of practice. 😁
Agreed. Dude is sharp as a tac.
He said "It's not that 'it's' more people ..." - Otherwise JS would know that it's "... there are* more people".
Never have you ever had to have a two-parter for a Colbert questionnaire but I wish this could’ve been a mini series because I can listen to John Stewart drag any answer out all day every day
The fact there aren't 5 parts to look forward to watching is honestly a bit disappointing.
I love the comedic banter between these two. Jon is just as funny when the comedy isn't at all political.
Also....is it just me, or has Jon _really_ come into his element at _this_ point in his life? It's interesting...he's almost more confident, funny, at ease, and honestly attractive as a human being now than ever before. Gives me a wee bit of hope tbh. I'm 38 and would be lying if I said I wasn't kinda sorta dreading getting older.
People like Jon make it look good though....on all levels.
So glad he's got a show again. I've missed that side of him. Definitely going to tune in asap.
@@avedic ok - it's ok to be a fan, and to love his work. However, this is cringe to the +++. I am guessing (just me) that Jon's on a retainer to fill gaps, and they pull him in at the last minute when someone can't make it. There's NOTHING in this that is funny... smart... or even insightful. TBH I think the whole questionnaire is filler... but having someone on that just feels like a Friday afternoon coffee-date doesn't make for the best tv. If you love him, that's fine... BUT THIS IS NOT COMEDY.
Edit - and I intentionally meant Friday, as this feels like a pre-recorded piece that could have been made 2 years ago.
@@AdelaideBen1 And yet, you obviously listened to the whole thing. How pathetic your life is.
Agreed
@@dryroasted5599 Of course, if he didn't listen to the whole thing, you could complain that he didn't give it an honest chance. In fact, you just wanted to complain, right?
Stewart is dressed like that high school teacher who's less than a year from retirement so he can't be bothered to wear normal pants but still insists on a tie. And every question he's asked it's like he's being put out. XD
Lmao
There's a pinkish stain on the front of his right shoulder I couldn't stop staring at, it made me so happy, much happier than I can understand ❤️
I love how Jon is stressing about these answers like they're gonna be carved on his tombstone 😆
He has the same in-depth considered reply to a casual question as to a national crisis. Long may he continue.
Because there is no serious conversation to be had on this show. Has to entertain somehow
@@DrFeelgood1127 It's a comedy show, not Meet The Press.
@@alexvaraderey eww you think Colbert is comedy?
@@alexvaraderey more like establishment propaganda disguised as comedy.
"What do you think happens when we die?"
When Keanu Reeves answered this with "Those who love us will miss us" I never thought I'd hear another non-ego based answer to this question again ... but good old Jon did it with his "Very little."
No - that's a "I don't give a shit" answer.... fine, he may well believe that. In which case, I agree... when he dies, very little will change. Does that feel right? I am fully on board people who believe there is nothing after (I really am not religious) - however this is the sort of teenage answer that is actually painfully ignorant. So what happens to his family? That was such an immaturely glib response to paint him as non-conservative... yet (as a non-conservative) I think that just paints him as emotional vacuous.
@@AdelaideBen1 project a little harder next time
@@AdelaideBen1 it was a joke ffs
@@valmacclinchy except it wasn't funny... and I'm not projecting... it was just a clueless, guileless, and humourless response, because he's been stuck out there to fill time. The problem with fans is that they don't have the self realisation to know they are clapping their memory of better times. FFS
@@AdelaideBen1 You hurting bro?
Jon sounds like he got the break he needed. He seems relaxed.
Hosting the Daily Show during Trump’s fuck-up, may well have killed the poor fellow.
That man was either very tired or a little high in this interview. Either way, he's earned it!
If " laughter is the best medicine ", then
Stephen & John are our Medicare for All!.
Not sure. They weren’t at their best here
“My father believed laughter was the best medicine which is why many of us got Tuberculosis “ Deep Thoughts by Jack Handey 🤣🤣🦋✌🏻
So true these guys are so funny 😂
Dumb questions though
Ah, just like.... koolaid. Gotcha.
I miss Jon Stewart SO MUCH. There needs to be a show where Jon and Stephen shoot the sh*t all day long.
#corporatecolbert cramps his style tho. Jon needs to write #corporatecolbert a Dear John letter and don't return his calls anymore.
Can you imagine a those two in a podcast format?
I would watch/listen to that all day!
@@hellspawn007 about the only way this makes sense
He has a bi-weekly show called The Problem With Jon Stewart.
"That was louder because of all the excess air" got me lmao
Still remember keanu reeves answer to what happens when we die. " I just know that people who love use miss us". Best answer ever.
Yes, it was...he left Stephen speechless.
I love Jon Stewart, he looks like a homeless guy who just had a makeover on a TV show and steals the spotlight because he's hilarious and has good points.
Jon recognized that himself, that he looks like a homeless guy, that's what makes him so endearing, luv him!
True
He's like an intentionally funny version of Bernie Sanders
How does he look homeless? He’s wearing a suit…
Colbert: Favorite action movie?
Stewart: Finding Nemo
I hope this man runs for president.
Sorry - so what is funny?
Jon Stewart is way too smart to do that. Which is a shame because we could use someone with his brilliance in the White House.
IDK why, my brain said "Finding Nemo. Haha im so smort, i made a funny"
Then Jon says "Finding Nemo"
I'm like: "Are I comedy genious??"
When a cat brings you a "gift" it's not a threat - they just think that you're too incompetent to hunt and they're trying to teach you lol
I've learned something today. Never ask John a personal question.
Unless you have all the time in the world.
The fact that Jon Stewart has to get up on his tip toes to hug him is quite endearing haha
“I’d say Springsteen…” Another New Jersey based answer.
BTR is definitely a classic and a song I considered.
You can take the boy out of Jersey....
"Lost in the Flood" is a very deep cut though. That's off his first album, before he found the style that made BTR such a successful album.
Was looking for this comment.
Texas based here. I’d say Springsteen for eternity.
I still love how these guys bounce off each other. I could listen to them all day.
Same. They're hilarious.
I love that Jon broke his own rule and got up at the end of the interview.
"What do you think happens when we die?"
"I think we play saxophone for an all-girl cabaret in New Orleans."
- Calvin & Hobbes
Hobbes got the right idea, sounds like heaven to me.
I love Jon Stewart. Their friendship is awesome, the banter is adorable. Love this.
Nothing can beat Keanu Reeves' answer. "I know the ones that love us will miss us"
“What number am I thinking of?” “Born to run” IM DED
The ENTIRE GODDAMNED LIST was a correct answer, btw. Lol
I'm still laughing at this 😂 trust Jon to choose a musical number!
According to Stephen’s criteria of “there has to be an explosion or someone falling from a great height,” Finding Nemo is an action movie because of the submarine torpedo and the sea mines and the scene when Marlin and Dory are in the whale’s throat
The fact there aren't 5 parts to look forward to watching is honestly a bit disappointing.
I love the comedic banter between these two. Jon is just as funny when the comedy isn't at all political.

So glad he's got a show again. I've missed that side of him. Definitely going to tune in asap.
Honestly I feel like he's seemed more relieved like he lost a huge burden ever since he won the compensation for the 9/11 first responders.
Don’t waste time dreading it. Just enjoy being young. Getting older is fine. I’m 53 and still feel 35. It’s just the passage of time and life is what you make it, no matter how old you are. And I agree, he’s cuter now than ever.
Oh, to be 38 again! (Sorry.) Whatever your age, if there's something you want to do, do it now. The energy level does not increase with time.
He's f**g smoking!!
What's worse is dying young. Be grateful for getting to enjoy parts of life if you get to grow old even if you lose some of your health and energy and ability to do some things. And have fun and do what you can while you can. Take the time to meet more inspiring older people. I dare say most 60 year olds still have a lot of life left in them.
Just the _way_ he said "very little."
And also the timing...and the fact it was just two words....is honestly extra funny.
The audience seems to immediately laugh...pause for a fraction of a second...and then laugh again.
As did I. It's funny....and super honest....and funny because it's kinda tragic and almost certainly true. That's good comedy.
Funny thing is, Jon probably believes that something DOES happen when we die, he's just going for the funny answers.
@@biostarkick7 there is no after life in judaism. your immortality is how the living think of you after you are gone. so be nice. 😉
@@acanarynamedrobyn4543 well that’s not necessarily true, there’s a lot of different opinions from jewish scholars on what happens after you die. many do believe in an afterlife of some sort. but there still isn’t a lot of focus on the afterlife in judaism, so at the end of the day the most important thing is the decisions you make in your current life :)
I always answer i dunno, and neither do you.
What is not almost certainly true but is certain are the words of God and His Son Jesus Christ.
John 14:6 “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”
John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
Jesus of Nazareth, the Christ (or Emmanuel, 'God with us') shed His perfect blood on the cross to offer forgiveness of sins to whosoever believes and give the gift of everlasting life. Call to Him in prayer, and He will forgive you and give you of His eternal Spirit so that you may never see death. Read your Bible and obey it and you will grow in the wisdom and life of the Lord. God bless you all in Jesus name.
It makes me indescribably happy to see Jon and Stephen together again.
"Very little" is the most concise and correct answer I've ever heard. @0:20
Poifect. ;)
Thought the same thing.
You can tell John is messing with Stephen and it’s amazing
Jon Stewart is the man. Worked with him on Kimmel once and was not expecting him to be so kind, full of energy, and fun! Such a great guy!
"The Problem with Jon Stewart" is that he's too funny and bingeing past clips of him distracts me from what I'm supposed to be doing.
@@ichijofestival2576 and then a nuclear power plant explodes à la Homer Simpson
His "pizza rant" is such a comedy classic !
I don't know about anyone else, but my favorite smell is rain. Any type of rain, really, but I like them all. My absolute fave, though, would have to be the smell of a rain storm in the woods. I could say other things, like the smell of the rain on a beach or the smell of rain in Ireland, but as I've never smelled either of those I'll have to go with rain in the woods.
Snow. The cold, crisp, kind of electric way the air smells just before it starts to snow :-)
petrichor
Mine is peat smoke. Earthy, rich, smoky, incredibly comforting.
The smell of autumn in New England.
Ripe wild concord grapes, a tinge of leaf smoke, apple cider...
Lime zest
But rainy woods is a fucking amazing symphony!!!
Stewart should still be hosting a show. He's the best.
He's starting a new show on Apple TV!
The entire point of this interview is to promote his new show?😂
You didn't watch the segment? He has a new show. Pay attention.
I wish it were like the old show but not every week.
Jon did the old show for 20 years. He just wanted and needed a break. It's not like he got cancelled, a la Conan.
I loved seeing Jon up on his tippy toes to give Stephen a hug. What wonderful, intelligent, compassionate men.
This should be a recurring series!!! I would love to just see regular bits where he asks Jon random questions.
GREAT IDEA!!!
I could watch Jon Stewart eat a sandwich and still be entertained. He's just honestly the best. 😂
Maybe it's the hair. Maybe it's the complete and total loss of f**ks over the years. But I can't help but think of Robin Williams now when I see Jon absolutely on fire like this. He's as on-point as he's ever been. Love him.
When Colbert is in the room with Stewart, there is immediately an order established. Stephen relates to Jon as his mentor, role model, the one he looks up to, there is respect, love, and admiration... and this will be like that until the end of times, even when Jon eventually loses his amazing wit and edge. If ever.
Which is exactly why comedians should NEVER do bits with their mentors... otherwise it just becomes a self-licking icecream... with benefits,.
Jon is so quick. intellectual hilarious humor - love it :) 😛🌷🌱
By far the best questionnaire recipient Stephen has had so far, with Tom Hanks (national treasure) a close second.
Some of the things found on a New Jersey beach would smell and I'd expect them to have actual names too.
But the smell of the heated sand combined with the ocean, so invigorating.
One problem, Jon Stewart does not look like he's ever been to a beach. He doesn't look like he's ever been outside.
My favorite part is the chin print on Jon’s shoulder from Stephen’s makeup 🤣
Didn’t realize how much I missed that guy ! 911 survivors still need help
I also hope he lives quite quite long. Such a jewel, that guy Jon.
I was thinking the same thing when the crowd cheered for the water. Missed Jon too much
I remember when I used to watch Jon Stewart when I was going through school in the Navy. Good O' Point Loma ASW base. 2010-2011. Watched him pretty much every night.
Shame you didn't know his name was Jon then...
@@AdelaideBen1 Okay, brian.
This was just Stephen and Jon hanging out to fill a gap or something. That said, i love it and it's wholesome to see their friendship.
Queen. The Show Must Go On.
What happens when we die?
Keanu: "I know the people who love us, will miss us"
Jon: "Very little"
Perfect
I think Jon Stewart needed the Daily Show, it seems like all his bubbly, hectic energy gets built up otherwise and it just explodes when he's on things like this.
".. some of the things you find on the beach."
That's Tony... yeah, he's pretty ripe.
Chris Christie.
With John Stewart, it was never gunna be simple. Loved it 😊
Hands down the best Colbert Questionert. Leaves all the others in the dust.
Good Lord these 2 are funny together. Every time they do an interview I feel like I could watch it 60 times and it always makes my day.
That “Born to Run” number has to be what x equalled all these years. Somebody tell somebody so they can stop freaking asking!!!
Yes! Welcome back Jon Stewart! We have missed you!
Queen - Another One Bites the Dust. I'll never get tired of that rhythm.
Thanks for marking Pt. 1 and Pt. 2. Please do the same thing on the other clips of other guests. Thanks!
So glad he’s back! We need him!
Their banter shows how close they actually are 😊
Jon & John! Those two make a better world.
They're both Jons, though.
The rest of my life in five words “I hope this goes well”…I’m 23
Stephen: "You are known!"
Me: "No he's not! He answered like two questions!" 😂
EXACTLY why Stephen is right. The way one goes about answering questions like this is what makes the interviews revealing. That sandwich bit from the first part, and the Springsteen bit from this one- idk how much more "Him" this could have been lmfao
I need more Jon Stewart in my life
Could I love this duo more!!!!!!!!!
"Oh, interesting, one of his own songs." Ahahahahahaha
Passing over the rest…..just got to say how cute it was that John Stewart went on tip-toe to hug Stephen 😊
God how I miss that man! Please don't ever die!
I SO love these 2 guys, together talking !!!!! Love love love 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂😂
The guy’s still hilarious. He says his new show will be serious discussion. Okay. But I hope the humor gets in there somehow. We could use it.
It's an extremely sober show I mean it's in no way entertaining , but it's not really meant to be.
After what he did for the 9/11 fund he deserves a long, long, easy retirement. He more than earned it.
There's just never gonna be another one like him. 💜💜
Loooooooove John Stewart. He's still got it!!!!!
I still maintain that 4'33" by John Cage is the only correct answer to the question what song to listen to for the rest of your life.
Its so nice when they let grandpa infront of the camera
I hope we all can enjoy John for quite, quite some time to come!!🙏🤙
NEW YORK CITY SERENADE...now THERE'S a Springsteen deep cut I could live with forever.
"Flat or Sparkling"
Well, the Earth isn't flat, so it must be sparkling.
It was before we beat the bubbles out of it...
He was just gonna keep saying titles of different Springsteen songs if he didn't cut him off.....👍🏻
Man, oh man, I have missed Mr. Jon Stewart. Glad you're back from the farm, sir. Can't wait to see your new show. 😍
I did not know how much I needed John Stewart back in my life
Fav smell? Turkey in the oven - at Grandma's house of course.
Very good answer. Mine would be.....the smell of the first snow of the year, in the early morning.
But Jon's answer is honestly a damn close second.... "The beach."
No explanation needed. Is it at night? Or the day? The beach itself? Or that faint smell a good mile from the beach....as you get closer to it. Yes. And I'm not even a beach person...or summer person. As I implied, I like cold, winter, snow...forests. Places where you don't sweat even though you're wearing nothing much at all.
my grandma can't make turkey anymore because dead ppl don't cook, I'll always remember her taking pieces of crispy skin to secretly give it to me lol
My answer is fresh-cut grass. Best smell in the world
Christmas dinner at my mom's house.......😭😭 I miss her.

Lol Jon Stewart was my favorite comedian… I’m sitting here right now having just used this soda stream for the first time and I was stoked.
Thanks for numbering the damned thing for once, Colbert Show.
This should be the entirety of an episode every single week.
Musical numbers are still numbers, Stephen!
If I could only listen to one song, life wouldn’t be worth living. So make it a funeral march. Too dark? Ok, the version of John Cage’s ‘As Slow As Posssible’ which is gradually being played on an organ in Germany and will last for 639 years. If that counts as a song.
Finding Nemo has all those things.
