    Another great test Pete! I would really like to see you add another step in your process. Once you test the factory edge, and it no longer cuts paper well, it would be cool to see you strop it and then test it on paper again. Just curious to see how it would react, as this would show us how the knife will perform for the user! Thanks Pete

    14.5 V wouldn't have had the same ring to it! I just did about 30 minutes of thick cardboard cutting with the factory edge after using it for a week for light tasks (vegetables, plastics, cardboard) around the house.
    I also stropped it back throughout the last week. And it kept coming back however it kept its bite.

    Great video! The title caught my eye because I recently bought a PM2 Wharncliffe in CTS-XHP from the Cutlery Shoppe. A Black Blade, orange G10 Beauty. I didn't do any rope cutting test but I think it was the sharpest edge I've ever had from a factory. It literally whittled a hair in half carving off a curly q.

    Spyderco do sharpen under water for some blades on the golden usa line but not all models. Some models will have horrible sharpenings with a machine with chattery edges. Im pretty shure the pm2 is done under water.
    Really the main reason that 15v does so good is the custom heat treat protocol by Triple B.

  • @BladeLabMiami
    @BladeLabMiami Год назад +1

    Impressive! In my experience, Spyderco will often do a 15 dps angle on their blades with wear resistant steels. Come to think of it, my Manix 2 in 15v came with a 15 dps edge.

  • @EDCandLace
    @EDCandLace Год назад +1

    You got the rope testing and I've been building on card board cut test data on the PM2, manix 2 and shaman 15v models. To say it's impressive is very understated.... it blew rex76 out the water and is giving custom rex121 a serious run for its money and the fine edge holding is absolutely 100% beating everything by a long shot and how long the paper slicing edge will go is absolutely nuts. What I'm most shocked with his just how long it retains the fine edge, on a 1.5 inch section it's going consistently well over 400 liner feet before it stops shaving.

    • @EDCandLace
      @EDCandLace Год назад

      And to to put it in perspective the longest fine edge/maintaining shaving steel I have tested is custom k390 going 270 feet before it wouldn't shave anymore. All three of the 15v models are going 420 to 460.

    There's actually 18v and 20v but those were never released for use. 20v has 4.4% C (which is insane, beating our 3.75% C of MPL 1/Supracor which is the current champ) and about 20% vanadium.
    I'm glad we get to experience 15v and thank Spyderco for it. Maybe s125v will be next?

    • @EDCandLace
      @EDCandLace Год назад +2

      I doubt s125v will be next from Spydie, Eric said they will be doing rex121 so that's what we can expect the next major sprints to be. A 70-71hrc Rex121 manix 2 has been my dream knife for a couple years now.. hell I offered Transparent blades 700 plus a doner manix 2 to pattern the blade off of to just make me a single 70-71hrc rex121 manix 2 blade and he said he couldn't lol.. I really have my fingers crossed the rex121 release will be in the mule to start and they will do a manix 2 and a pm2 in it and I will be one super happy girl!!! Even happier if Mr Houston is the one who builds up the heat treat protocol for them.

    • @D00MTR33
      @D00MTR33 Год назад

      @@EDCandLace that would be cool as well it's just I want to experience the queen of stainless steel. I had a Ferrum Forge custom in s125v but at the time didn't have the best sharpening equipment and it was the only knife I could not get really sharp. The stones just slid across it as the knife laughed. I had to sell it to raise funds and I've regretted it ever since.
      Sure x125 doesn't stack up to rex 121 or probably 15v but for stainless steel it's still the peak with only m398 coming close and having a custom at 64hrc I'm really impressed with it.
      Recently I got one of my grail steels which is Vanadis 10 (I hope the 8%Cr gives it better corrosion resistance than 10v class) at 65hrc so there's only a few more I want to experience.
      A rex 121 Spyderco would be really great though.
