  • Porsche has revamped its 2025 Taycan significantly, even if these changes aren't immediately visible. While the exterior closely resembles its predecessor, numerous updates have been made under the hood.
The standout news is the power boost in the Taycan Turbo S, now reaching an impressive 938 horsepower with launch control. This is a considerable increase from the previous model's 750 hp. Porsche aims to rival Tesla and Lucid in the high-performance EV market. With this enhancement, the Taycan Turbo S claims a 0 to 60 mph time of just 2.3 seconds, making it Porsche's most powerful road car, even surpassing the 918 Spyder's 887 hp.
This surge in power comes from new motors that fit in the same space as the old ones but are more powerful internally. The rear motor now delivers an additional 107 hp and weighs 20 pounds less. Every Taycan model benefits from these new motors, and while full specifications aren't released, the base rear-drive model now produces 483 hp.
Porsche has also focused on improving efficiency and range. The previous Taycan faced criticism for its limited range, and Porsche has addressed this. Although official EPA numbers are pending, a test by InsideEVs reported a Taycan 4S achieving 300 miles under suboptimal conditions, suggesting a significant range improvement.
The improved range is due to a new battery pack with updated cell chemistry. The Performance Battery Plus now has a gross capacity of 105 kWh, up from 93.4 kWh, with a net usable capacity of 98.6 kWh. Even the base models have an 89-kWh gross and 83.6-kWh net battery pack. Despite the increased capacity, these new packs are lighter than before.
Additionally, Porsche has enhanced the Taycan's energy-regeneration capability, increased charging speeds to 320 kW, and improved its aerodynamics and thermal management. These upgrades result in faster charging times and longer range per charge.
Chassis upgrades include standard air suspension for all US-spec Taycans and an optional Porsche Active Ride system for all-wheel-drive models. Inside, there are minor updates to the gauge cluster and infotainment system, plus a push-to-pass button for models with the Sport Chrono package.
However, these improvements come with a price increase. The base 2025 Taycan starts at $101,395, up from $92,550 for the previous model, and the top-tier Turbo S Cross Turismo costs $213,695, an increase of $14,695. US deliveries are expected to begin later this summer.
In summary, while the 2025 Taycan may look similar on the outside, it boasts significant enhancements in power, efficiency, and range.
