Are people who buy traditional sports cars concerned about worse gas mileage, more expensive oil, pads, rotors, and tires? Most consumables go way down in EVs (fuel, brake pads, rotors, oil changes), at the end of the day its a wash when worse case you deal with 25% quicker wear due to weight. These vehicles are closer to a BMW M6/M7 Sedan versus a Corvette Z06 in their buying demographic / levels of practicality they offer. Hell, even the BMW M2 weighs over 3800 lbs now.
For some reason, I find it nearly impossible to believe ANY electric cars we buy today will last 30+ years and turn into a collector car, etc..... At 200+ large, there's literally no practical reason to own one knowing it'll be crushed and disposed of someday in the not too distant future.
Unless some chinese manufacturing plant decides to keep making outdated battery packs, you won't even be able to keep them stock. Would have to retrofit new packs into old cars and make them work together. I don't see any current EVs being collectors either.
Man, I've been buying cars wrong my whole life, it started off as "what can I afford" and turned into "what would I enjoy". Guess this whole time I should've been thinking "what will it be worth in 30 years, long after I've already moved on to something else anyway"

Isn't the vagueness in the break pedal also caused by the fact that on this perticular model a certain amount of initial breaking is regen and only when you need full stopping power the physical breaks actually start operating ?
One quick note, the Taycan is not the car you get for its roomy interior. This is a sports car(911 with rear door and seats)with a back seat for quick rides or baby seats. With that said, the Lucid or the BMW would be more comparable to an electric Panamera which Porsche said they will make!

That being said my RWD BMW i4 40 ate through a set in 11k miles, granted they were Hankook Ventus S1 EVO3 which are UTG 220 rated tires on a stagger setup... happens when all braking and acceleration are done on one axle fronts are still going strong at 18k. Both rear and fronts are at 5.5/32nds (rear are on second set of tires), kind of nuts
The second fastest thing about this is the battery degradation.
That’s why you buy cars?
Man, I've been buying cars wrong my whole life, it started off as "what can I afford" and turned into "what would I enjoy". Guess this whole time I should've been thinking "what will it be worth in 30 years, long after I've already moved on to something else anyway"
@@noncog1 You buy brand new 200k+ vehicles every couple years? Great work becoming a millionaire my guy.
Maybe 30 years in the future they will have way smaller, lighter configerable batteries to do a sort of a resto-mod.
Mark filled a Lincoln Nautilus with Arby's meat and attempted a border crossing. Unreal.
Isn’t the girl riding with Lars supposed to be wearing a white shirt that pops open?
I'm ecstatic with the outro music from Alan Fowler. Reminds me of the old days of driving aimlessly in the prairies of northeast Illinois.
Man, this is such a complicated car. An extravaganza of German engineering.
Great job Jack. I don't know how you drive and analyze all while filming so quickly on track. I could never buy one of these cars but because you are reviewing it I watch and enjoy. Thank you
I really hope when they do an EV 911, they *don’t* listen to people about range. Just do 150-200 miles of range and keep the car as light as possible.
Definitely.
there wont be an ev 911. porsche has committed to keep the 911 ICE in some way for as long as they can into the future
@@ShaiyanHossainthey said they will do the 911 in hybrid until they can get more emotion into an EV version or until regulations force them to go EV
Drove the lucid grand touring for a while and man that car drove phenomenal. It has springs but drove like it had an air suspension with handling like an M3. I would go with the lucid.
Jack doing yeoman's work behind the wheel whilst giving a running commentary. Bravo!
These videos are so awesome!
The editing is one of the reasons why I watch this channel.
Christian was really wringing Jack out on those hot laps. Loved it.
I might consider in 2-3 years when it is 50% of its current retail value (used). ;) Looks like a blast to drive.
Cool addition of the ride along with the track commentary and her hair really showing the g's! I would have barfed
Thank you, Jack. Porsche does it right. We appreciate the breakdown!
The Arby's joke had me genuinely laughing out loud
A quarter million bucks for a electric Porsche station wagon. I'll bet no one would have wagered on that 25 years ago.
This is the future!
Also noone would've believe 1100HP and nearly 7minutes record time on Nürburgring with 5000pound car XD
Seeing a Porsche Test Driver in action just took me back to my childhood playing Need for Speed: Porsche Unleashed. That was such a great game and I would love to see a V2 come out that I could get my kids..
Great video as always 👏
What a beast of technology. I’m glad they made it. Not a car I’d ever be interested in or frankly could afford. My budget is more BMW M3, not $200k+ Porsche.
I’m a Porsche fan. Own several now. Have driven the Taycan. I have no interest in owning one. For my taste the engine noise, especially NA engine noise is an important part of the experience.
I think for most Porsches other than GT3 CGT 918, their selling point aren’t sound.
@@charname-player I have a GT3, 718 Spyder and a 718 Box GTS. I got them significantly for the sound.
I can't believe the quality savagegeese produces for us! Frequently better than some 8-figure movie productions I've seen.
Can't wait to see this tech in a small fun EV like an electric 718 🙏🏻
This tech goes against "small". All the extra tech adds weight and takes up space
Will it dive in value before and after warranty ends? Will it die in general over time? Can it become a classics or will it just be unfixable for what is worth?
It's tech... just like the latest greatest PC components as new stuff comes out the existing stuff will plummet in value. I don't expect these to hold value at all unless they just stop improving/releasing new ones.
@andy : don't think you can wait till it becomes affordable on the used market if you have an average salary. Because if the car needs to get a major maintenance/repair, then it will be too expensive for your average wallet and you will be stuck in the poo.
Dive in value? lol - at some point, its value will be non-existent. In 20 years, EV batteries will be so insanely more efficient and practical than they are today. Still lame, but better nonetheless.
And collectors will covet ICE cars and ice cars only - just as they do now.
@@lensoprezole5322that's my point you would only but this if you didn't care about loosing all its value and environmentally this is terrible if that's the reason to purchasing it
Hopefully this means there will be more pre-owned Taycans on the market!
Jack, would you rather drive that track in the Taycan or say a manual Miata/GR86?
We'd love to see a head-to-head video with the Sapphire!
So the Weissach version is a 4 door car with a rear seat delete... I am really ambivalent about today's Porsche.
Actually you get a rollcage also if you don't live in the US and the fixed wing and a couple other goodies.
I liked this video in the first 20 seconds, just for Jack’s comment about why Mark couldn’t be here 😜
Love that purple nvidia logo 🔥🔥🔥
Problem is I dont care what Jack thinks. Where's Mark? This is supposed to be his channel. Mark is the man.
Topgun #1. 😎 🥇
FREE MARK
18:24 Why have rear doors if there are no back seats?
Awesome, could you put the fraulein in a low cut top and take her around the track again?
I feel like even the rich that could afford this would not choose this over 911. Unless they already have on a few lol
Not going to front, I'm the furthest thing from an "EV" guy, I literally don't want them, don't want them forced down my throat, don't want governments to force automakers to stop production of ICE for EV and I don't don't want governments forcing their populations into buying one, I think it's utterly disgusting and ridiculous on many, many levels..........but, if someone wants to perhaps, give me a Taycan GTS Sport Turismo or especially the Turbo Cross Turismo version of this latest gen (or if Porsche is smart and makes a Turbo GT Sport Turismo), I'll gladly take it lol....ok ok, or if I had the disposable income and I already had myself a 992 911 GT3 Touring, I'd probably buy one of these.... this is the only EV I've ever wanted, it's just that damn good, especially this Turbo GT (please Porsche make a wagon Turbo GT).... this damn Turbo GT is literally only 2 seconds slower around the Ring than a Rimac Nevera if we're putting it against an EV "hypercar".... this thing is brutally quick and handles like it's on rails, I mean, so did the last gen GTS and Turbo, but this new one is double as good everywhere.
this thing is going to eat tires...
Yeah, that makes this car annoying.
If theyre able to make a big sedan this dynamic just imagine the magic the EV Cayman will have.
I believe Rivan’s R1T/R1S hydrologic roll control is similar to what they were talking about for this car’s air ride/sway bars set up.
17:00 where is the camera going? 😅
Nice one..I’ll take 2
Jack’s laugh at 2x speed is priceless.
Isn't the vagueness in the break pedal also caused by the fact that on this perticular model a certain amount of initial breaking is regen and only when you need full stopping power the physical breaks actually start operating ?
This looks amazing
Jack trying to talk about the Taycan while driving hard is very funny. I know first hand how difficult it can be.
I’ll take the 911 for sure.
Interesting hearing the G forces make Jack pant. Amazing job sir.
much Turbo, wow, so Turbo
Thank you for the infographics
One quick note, the Taycan is not the car you get for its roomy interior. This is a sports car(911 with rear door and seats)with a back seat for quick rides or baby seats. With that said, the Lucid or the BMW would be more comparable to an electric Panamera which Porsche said they will make!
