Dr. Zelken was pleasantly surprised to discover a recent article discussing management of perioral mounds. "Efficacy and Safety of Perioral Mound Region Liposuction - A Novel Concept to Improve Perioral Mound Fullness" was accepted by the Aesthetic Surgery Journal, our #1 journal in the USA, and features work by Chinese authors. Dr. Zelken is one of few American plastic surgeons who treat perioral mounds as a standalone condition and has discussed this topic in the past.
SPOILER ALERT: Here's the good, bad, and ugly. In this video review, Dr. Zelken compares notes with his Chinese colleagues and offers an updated opinion regarding gold standard management of perioral mounds (RF skin tightening + liposculpture versus facelift + liposculpture). Although he is impressed by the lengths to which the Chinese authors studied the topic, he was not as convinced by the data presented or the before and after photos featured. Obtaining MRIs in American subjects may be time and cost prohibitive, for example, and the power of 3D cameras should not be ignored.

I am 17 years old and would be turning 18 in February and I have pretty evident perioral mounds, when I see my side profile it feels like I have something in my mouth also I have receding (weak) chin. I am so concerned about my facial looks. Is there a method to naturally cure these. I have heard of mewing and people say that it effects most in the growing stage in which I am, I really need a solution.
I am not in favor of surgery or fillers because I come from a middle class family and these treatments are way too expensive for me.
Please help me before its too late..

Hi this video is super interesting. I’ve just turned 35 and I have large perioral mounds they are aging my face so much as they are quite large. However I live in the UK and I’ve been doing my research and there hardly seems to be anywhere that offers treatment for this area. They either want to do a mini facelift which won’t address the bulge or they want to remove buccal fat which isn’t the right area? It’s super frustrating. Do you know of any surgeons here in the UK that offer the same treatment for this area, that you practice?

Profound may be a reasonable alternative to Morpheus8. FaceTite is a minimally invasive surgical procedure and is much more powerful.

Is it still called perioral mounds if the mound appearance is along underneath the lower lip?

Yes- good question- perioral just means around (peri-) the mouth (-oral)
