So who else is trying to keep a slight smile while watching this?
Hhhh same here! But imagine if someone walked in on me smiling to my phone like that. Wouldn't I look a bit scary or even crazy? 😆
Yes. I have to admit it feels...strange.
Smiling is so exhausting. I’m using my fingers to push up the corners of my mouth as I watch this.
Lmfao yes I am
😂I noticed myself trying to relax those muscles that pull down the corners of my mouth
You are so honest! That is rare nowadays, especially in the cosmetic surgery world! Thank you sir!
You're welcome!
I agree, going to a plastic surgeon these days is an adventure, not knowing if the Dr. is in just for the money or he/she honestly wants to help the clients.
I know I love that about him and him mentioning his wife and dogs in other videos, it makes his videos feel more familiar, and nice and so soothing.
So honest. He hedges his views on sunscreen due to chemicals but fillers and Botox are ok. People in his comments espousing the benefits of tomatoes for sun protection. My father is a skin cancer survivor - I find this irresponsible.
@@DoctorYoun Doctor will smooth pdo threads help??
my lips naturally go down a bit and i’m 20
noobenstein yup naturally I have that face but I’m not a bish
@noobenstein what's wrong with you, If anyone is a bitch It's you
Same I’m only 19 and have a resting b*tch face
I’ve had it through my teens too, I have this picture where I wanted a ‘chill/cool vibe’ and I personally thought it looked good because it showed my uh facial structure and when I smile I turn into a chubby pikachu so that very much ruins it. But everyone be like wHy U MaD!!! 😤
Mie Gravgaard omg yes, mine too kinda, my mouth is also not as wide as regular people it’s very small
If you're gonna do surgery on your mouth, now's the time when were all wearing masks. Go for it!
Update: I took my own advice and I'm very happy with my results. I had injections done (I'm 43, and an ex smoker) and it was a great experience. Alil bruising for a few days, but well worth it. Seriously, if you want it, go for it!❤
Very true! 👍🏼👍🏼😀
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Or a lower face lift, there has never been a better time.
I’m keeping mine on.
👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
i love reading these comments so then i know I'm not the only one struggling through this
Koko the facial yoga instructor actually says to always keep a slight smile in your face and that will prevent and reduce a "permafrown"
It could
Anthony Youn, MD It works. My mother did it for years and has no mouth lines at 63
I worked in customer service for years, and I grinned like an idiot for so long it's never happened to me.
Serene Artist its also genetics so she could have good genetics!
Marcy Brennan lol
This runs in my family. Growing up, friends of mine would always comment on how they thought my father was great but that they were scared to approach him at first because he always looked angry. As I age now, at only 24, I get comments more often about how I look like I’m upset when I’m not at all. It’s frustrating hearing it all the time.
Sage I’m 16 and people have been asking me why I’m so upset for all my life. Really frustrating
@@agax.10 Fr it's so annoying. Everyone teases me and is like Why you mad? It just makes me actually be mad because of how annoying that phrase is to me.
Heh, I'm 14 and everyone think I'm always mad, doesn't help that I also have a deep voice...
Slight smile. Safe solution that will make one feel better as well. Been doing it for years.
@@priskruger314 Me too. I keep a slight smile going in public to keep my mouth corners pleasant.
One of my favourite phrases is "Smile for no reason. It makes people nervous"
It works. I have RBF and I've been walking around lately smiling like the cat who ate the canary and it really is messing with people. I love it!
I walk around smirking and people hate it
Yes! for all my BRF friends, let's regain our power by playing these judgemental people at their own game haha
LOL it's true, when people don't get why you're smiling it makes them so confused. Tbh I'm naturally a smiley person around people because I feel happy socialising, but I kind of feel like I should try to smile LESS because some people don't trust me because of it. Some of them think I'm faking being friendly. Which sucks and makes me feel like I look like some sort of psychopath lol
It’s like god heard my prayers 😂 I kept googling how to fix my resting b**** face. Your video is helpful!
Have had this I was 20...when I smile I always looked attractive...resting bitch face not so much!
MUCH! THIS IS TREMENDOUS.
I call it ‘the don’t give a fuck face’
Wear it with pride❤
@@whatifyouandi lol😂😂
I had fillers for this. It made a huge difference immediately. I was so happy.
"people think..." People need to stop nitpicking others imperfections 😉
Agreed!
@Catania Momma Italia Don't you get tired of being a perpetual victim?
It's really how they feel about themselves - obviously ;)
Dr. Youn, your RUclips's are the best you're so informative and positive don't ever listen to anyone that tries to bring you down because you are an ambassador in the field and I am a huge fan ....as are all of my clients! Thank you for your compassionate and always entertaining expertise.
@Audra Connors your comment should be the first comment, and left there permanently!
Ugh. People have been asking me if I'm sad or angry since I was 5 years old. I've always had a downturned mouth. (My mom did, too.) If I don't smile constantly, people think I'm cranky. But then strangers also think I'm strange for smiling too much. It's a no win situation. LOL
try chewing gum slowly when you would normally be "resting"
I stopped smiling because of COVID. Now I'm watching this video.
Hello Dr. Youn!!! I am so happy you covered this topic. I have 5 daughters and we all suffer from chronic RBF..... It is nit fun at all. Thank you for all the awesome videos. We love every bit of the beauty tips you post.
Dr. Youn, your videos and good attitude fuel my permanent smile! Thank you for the positive energy that you send out! ♥️💃🏿
TAO TAO judging by your profile pic it’s a gorgeous smile too!
Cat T Thank you for the compliment! You are making me smile right now! 💕 Have a great weekend.
I'm so glad I found Dr. Young's channel. I'm of the age that I'm getting curious about possible procedures for myself and feel like Dr. Youn offer's really informative content of where to even start with what to consider. Also, the fact that he has videos of options to consider that he's not pushing surgery and/or products he's trying to sell, like the hair loss video, speaks volumes about his character and ethics. I wish all doctors were like that and had his kindness with regards to how he presents himself to others.
Thank you Dr. Yoon. Listening to you always give me a relief. It's soothing to hear from you giving us solutions to combat aging and looking good not only from the inside but also in our appearances. Now I know not to judge people who look grumpy or bitchy. They just need this kind of treatments 🤩
Would love for you to include 'average prices' for the procedures you mention. Not asking for YOUR prices, just give an idea what these improvements run. Thanks!!!
It depends on where you get it done. You can also look at international cosmetic surgery. A lot of times other countries offer procedures at astronomicaly lower prices than the US. Go on vacation, get something done...
I would appreciate that too. Not local prices, but a price range to get an idea and avoid ‘sticker shock’.
Great idea! 👍
In the Midwest $9-12 per unit of Botox. I haven't had anything else done yet
@@ASMRyouVEGANyet you have to be careful going international though, one because it’s harder to find a reputable surgeon without help (which is why people keep dying from botched BBLs) and two because a lot of the time you can’t fly right after surgery. Imo you’re way better off just saving the money and finding a board certified plastic surgeon near you. You get what you pay for. I think if you can’t afford it you simply shouldn’t get it done.
I love it!! A grin lift, “ especially the older you are the better you heal “.
Yep, I esp. loved that last part :D
Wow! My boss just had a talk with my yesterday about this, she said people think I look angry all the time, I call it my chemo pain smile. Great to know there is something available to turn my frown back to a smile. Thank you!
Surgery looks so real I mean it looks natural rather operated.
💕 great change. Makes a huge difference
I've always had this. The worst thing is people always saying that you look a bit sulky, then wondering why you look genuinely sulky once they've said it! Now I'm 55 and everything is starting to fall apart facially so I've started forcing a weird grimacy-smile when I'm in the company of others haha. I guess it's marginally better than having droopy jowls :o)
This video is hugely helpful. Thanks for the real scoop Dr.
You're welcome!
I hate that people think I'm angry all the time :(
Excellent information Dr. Youn..I am really enjoying all of your videos!
👍🏻 thank you for your honesty & keeping it real!
I don’t trust people that are smiling all the time , 😆
You shouldn't! We all know when people are up to something 😁
I always say the same thing 🤭
🤣🤣🤣
Reminds me of a Home Alone scene
You don't have to trust anyone 😂, 😂😂 but it's good to have a smiling face
This for me is what plastic surgery is all about, life changing in people's attitude and reaction to you. Then in Hollywood on the other end of the spectrum, no one knows what anyone is thinking, you can't read a face. I remember years ago chers emotional interview..No one related because her face was emotionless.
This is so informative! Thanks Doc!
Got me from the start "RBF" comment! totally got me to chuckle! Thank you
I've always had a downturned mouth, I have Resting Sad Face. Runs in my family.
I look sad too,and when in situation that make me anxious, i look extra sad, eventhough im not that sad😂
Bummer hope this works for you!
I also have RSF! I’m not always as tragic as I look! 😭
I have resting sad face too. I tell people I'm like a basset hound and I was just born looking sad and it doesn't mean that I am.
True
From Jordan 🇯🇴♥️... really appreciate your advice
I wish you could show us the scars on a close up level.
I have never heard of Grin Lift!
That is awesome!!! 👍🏻
Hello Judy😊
The way things are going where everyone must be happy and kind and helpful and drip positivity 24/7 you'd better find a way to turn that frown upside down.
Imagine living a long life of hard work and raising a family and paying your taxes... only to be bullied in your old age because of what the ravages of time have done to your face.
By that family...
Love this guy.
For early stages, I would also suggest going to a dentist to have "your bite examined". I was referred to an orofacial surgeon and diagnosed with arthritis of my TMJ from clenching and grinding. I had orthodontic braces to correct my bite, but no help with clenching. I think prevention is key here too. I did not realize how tight my facial muscles were until I started to massage them! I still need a bite guard. Also practicing biofeedback and other stress relievers really help! Believe it or not, I found a cheap mood ring on Wish as a helpful, inexpensive relaxation tool! There are also stick-on color sensors that can be used.
😯✊🏾🔥Oh snap... the clench correction advice is really accurate, I can see the difference when I clench my teeth when my mouth is closed. When I don't It's like my cheeks relax entirely causing my mouth to lo go downward on each side 🤧.
By the way I am 21 years old 😌💅.
Thank you for sharing!
I need to get a “clench consultation”, too! Thanks for sharing!
GREAT VID - informative and well described!
Thank you!
Love your honesty x
I look angry all the time and don’t understand why I look this way when I am a “happy” person.
Me too, I am a very happy person but my face shows am always angry 😊
Omg......I didn't know my natural frown was a thing..lol....
lol same
Wow great to actually understand the physiological changes behind this frown. I actually thought people who develop it must be going through very hard times in life and joy just got sucked out of them! :(
Maybe that's true, but after surgery you won't see it anymore. >:)
Its not helped by the gradual formation of jowls, and sinking of facial fat, which all adds to the downward turn look. I always wonder who the angry old woman is that I see reflected in shop door glass, then I realise - its me! 🤣🤣
Bless you Dr Youn
I developed a permanent frown because I was miserable in my last job. ☹️😔
I never had perma frown until about 3 years ago. I never was into the glued to your phone thing like a lot of people. Unfortunately , I started working less hours because of physical issues and started watching videos and playing games on my phone. I rest the phone in my lap and look downwards and boy has that changed my face. Gravity.Is.A.Bitch.
Omg 15 years of it ☹️
You patients look SO much better! What kind of stitches- do they dissolve?
Fascinating. Love your videos and your work.
Thanks!
At a certain age it will profit us to be able to walk outside down.
mati261000 yeah I think that’s anytime after 30!
mati261000 😂 😂
Hahahahahaha!
Lionel Ritchie figured out how to dance on the ceiling.
Umm...don't you mean "upside-down"?
Great video!
Thank you, I never knew this was possible. This "frown" also runs in my family and I hate it since I am a happy person.
Fantastic info! I had the botox done (before seeing this) as you described and it worked and looks very natural! No RBF for me!
😠->☺ 👍
There is another way to treat it, just keep smiling constantly all through your life. Also, exercise your mouth daily. Accentuate the O’s the EE’s and the AH’s. If you start when your very young by the age of thirty it reverses that downward smile. We started in jazz classes and now I don’t have that problem. However, it runs in my family too and I was fortunate to have a teacher who emphasized the whole body alignment including your face!!!
"Start when you're very young and by the age of thirty it reverses the downward smile" 😂😅 yo no dude
Encouraging and had never heard of the grin lift.
Opening the bite can also make a huge difference with the frown. Frequently older people lose some tooth structure and bone in the mouth causing a lessened nose to chin distance which in turn collapses the skin/muscle around the mouth causing a frown. Opening the bite restores the tooth structure and, thus, the facial structures. This is accomplished by crowning the teeth or making new dentures, if that's the situation.
Omg I love the fact before he said "in today's video.." he took a deep breath in
Great information!
I’m afraid I’d look like the Joker if I had the grin lift.
LMAO
"life's been good to me."
Doc! I need you in my life! You are absolutely awesome! I still don’t have nothing done to my face or body! But you would be the one who would touch me
I think the results of the surgery are very good!...👍👍👍
Beautiful results, definitely.
Dear lord, I need this so bad. I lost 100 pounds and my face has fallen off. I feel so oooold now.
Congrats on that amazing weight loss though!
@@mimimosa259 Thank you, sweetie.
You're amazing. Well done for sticking at it, bet you look great! :)
That was fantastic, thank you 😊
I'm always in a bad mood🤣 so I'll need botox, when that doesn't work I'll just pull my face up with duct tape
Lol, what will duct take NOT fix?! Wish you luck with your plan 😀👍
@@rebeccagreen7241 lol thank you
👍🏻😍 thank you Dr Youn!
I would like to see the scars. I’m sure you can cover with makeup-but closeup photos would be helpful. Thanks!
Respect to you Doc for keeping it real!
The amount of times I’ve heard people tell me to “cheer up!”...... ☹️lol
Maybe they just really want you to be happy!
😂😂😂😂 same here
Always being told to cheer up 😜
I have downturned lips and chubby cheeks, even when I smile widely, the corners of my mouth point down. I'm 27 now and guess I am getting nasolabial folds, droopy jowls and marionette lines sooner or later. Glad to know there can be accessible and not so terrible remedies.
Dr. I suffer from this. Your correct it runs in the family. I was told Asian and Native Americans (me) we have a serious look, can't help it. hahaha
I've had it since I was a child.
Yup! Native American Anna all of us do it...
Great, my great aunt inherited the gorgeous, high cheek bones and I inherited the RBF... It does seem to be worse with weight gain though. I noticed the RBF in one of my baby pictures, and then it kind of disappeared for a while before returning.
That's so cool! I always wondered how can I left that part of my face up? I have that frown due to teeth extractions. ❤from Tenneessee.
I’m 61 and people have been asking me why I’m sad or grumpy for years, probably a decade, when I’m not. Makes me sad to hear that. I also have what I call smoker lines above my lip. I don’t smoke but I have deep creases above my upper lip. Sucks! 😢
I have dimples and I swear they are going down. But looking at my baby pictures it's been like that my whole life.
sir you are very genuien person. You explain so well and tell us truth

I tried using castor oil on my face for a few days every week over a month. I didn't do it for frown lines near the mouth, but it took care of it for about six months. I used to have a small mouth. But, in highschool I had an impacted wisdom tooth that took over 3 hours to be dug out and then stiched up. It didn't quite cause frown lines but it looks a bit like it. Might not be a good idea for everyone. But, I still have adult acne and have naturally oily skin in places where people break out. It helped take care of the oil and the corners of my mouth at the same time. Worth a try.
Love your content 🙏
You are brilliant. I was wish you were a Pediatrician or Pediatric Dermatologist. My nephew has serious allergy/excema issues and no one can give us answers (nor results). You seem like the type of doctor that has your heart and soul in what you do..... You should be cloned 🤗

Thank you for this video! Question: If someone is prone to this, can massage of the muscle to relax it be a preventative measure? Or does massage not help with the overactive muscle?
That's for me too!
