  • It's shrimp fishing time!
    What’s your go-to artificial shrimp when fishing it under a popping cork?
    Do you just buy whatever is available at the store?
    Or whatever the fishing magazines tell you to get?
    Depending on which one you get, you could be making a big mistake.
    If you’re fishing artificial shrimp under a cork, two of the biggest things to keep in mind are:
    The action of the shrimp as it darts through the water
    How the shrimp settles when the cork is still
    So we took seven of the most popular brands of artificial shrimp and tested these two factors.
    Want to see how they stacked up against each other?
    Check out this video.
    P.S. We’re not affiliated with any of these lures companies (or any other companies at all), we just wanted to create this video to show you the difference between lures.

    Maybe do a comparison as to how a live shrimp would rest under a cork to see which one looked more natural.

    • @tonyacevedo3149
      @tonyacevedo3149 5 лет назад +2

      Hooking a live shrimp through the top/middle of the head (between eyes and organ) or in the tail near the fan would be the best option with a popping cork. Once the water clears up around here that would be a good test!

      I'm surprised that no one has figured a way to rig these to show a shrimps natural escape movement so they jet backwards with the tail tucked under. Then when they rest the tail un curls and sits horizontally

    In Australia we don't have popping corks but we do have poppers we could use instead. I'll try a chasebaits shrimp behind a regular hookless popper. Thanks for getting me thinking.

    The Power Prawn has them all beat! The Savage and Vudu are a close 2nd. If the Gulp was made out of floating plastic along with the scent, it would be up there. Chasebaits tail action is lacking. Another great informational video getting straight to the point, thanks!!

    Great video guys! One thing that’s worth mentioning is that between the Savage gear and Chasebaits the hook is embedded vice the Vudu which is exposed. This could lead to better hook up/land ratio with the exposed hook vices weedless!

    The horizontal knot placement on the Gulp Shrimp/DOA Shrimp hook eye would need to reset every few casts to ensure the horizontal resting position in the Water column. (Assuming leader is mono).

    • @regularsizeruss3874
      @regularsizeruss3874 5 лет назад +2

      I add super-glue to the knot to keep it at a right angle to the lure. I do this with any jig under a cork. You can also tie your knot just below the eye of the hook, on the shank, to keep it from hanging tail-down.

      I also use the zman shrimp but rig them on a zman jig 1/4 or 3/8 head. Best part is that they are indestructible! Have caught 30+ fish on same lure. All the others tend to get destroyed after a few fish. No idea how they look underwater but I do get probably half the bites on stopping where they just hang. Used to love gulp, but I think for the durability that live shrimp are better. Gulp is waaay overpriced now. Good but not durable at all.

      Hard to say which one will be best, but the ones with more action will typically do better in dirtier water. They all will catch fish and it really comes down to being able to find active feeding zones and picking the best spots based on conditions/time of year, etc.

    I think the real test is how they perform while being fished with the cork, not how it floats. How it floats horizontally is not a true measure of how it will work and doesn't mean it's the best. By the way water density is way different.

    • @marcusramirez8486
      @marcusramirez8486 4 года назад

      Thinking more about it. When the bait is floating in the water another factor would be the amount of current at the time, which would be moving the bait. A swimming pool is dead water.

    Spend time actually catching shrimp at night with a light and you will clearly see that none of these shrimp look very natural. Shrimp “walk” forward horizontally. Period. If you really want to match the hatch-a very slow steady retrieve without jerking would imitate a shrimp in action perfectly. I understand the popping cork theory but I’ve personally caught tons more fish with the slow roll method. Reds trout and snook

      100% true. They'd all need to be tested with the same kind of keel weighted swimbait hook. The moment you use a swimbait leadhead, it's obviously going to be resting vertical. That would happen with any bait you put on. I will say though that if he had used a keel weighted swimbait hook on all of them, the tail action results would have probably been the exact same.

    This is just my thoughts, they make the shrimp realistic, but 👈🏽. If you see a shrimp in nature it swims backwards, it flicks its tail to propel itself in reverse and none of theses lures do that , and to get a shrimp lure to get a natural motion it would need to be at a pivot point just above we’re the body meets the top tail section, so the tail could collapse and spring back also in nature the shrimp would settle to the bottom of the sea floor and would jump off the bottom, and yes I realize that this is a comparison of product and who better, but our job as fisherman is to deceive fish into thinking our lure is natural and real in order to trick them into biting and getting caught, 🤔
