Fascinating as ever. I do like the contrast in the colour of your trousers between the start of "messy work" and the end of that day. The cross members under the bridge deck are going to be difficult to see by visitors but probably add to the structural integrity of the model. But then perhaps you are paying for the genius moment 💡 the guy had when he thought of the idea 🤷🏻♂️😜 I just realised that the end of the near side platform is now going to have a section of retaining wall at the end so perhaps a wall-mounted starter for that platform or even a gantry stretching over both (not that I get over excited by unusual signals or anything 🙄)? A neat way to break up and terraform that corner of Chadwick Charlie. By making use of the upward banking route to determine the lay of the land and engineer the space available. Not just the rise and fall between the river and the station, but also the rear corner to the front edge. It will make a great scenic break to the layout once you have this section finalised later.
Hi Charlie. Don't forget to leave potholes in the road, something that country roads suffer badly from. It will add to the authenticity and incompetence of the local Council. 👍
Hi Charlie. Thanks for your response. I suffer from the same problem I'm afraid, but what can you do. Some years ago, I started to cross the road (at night) and unbeknown to me, there was a small pothole 'hiding' next to the kerb. As soon as I put my foot forward and down, it entered the pothole and forced the front of my foot to bend upwards by about 30 degrees. The sharp pain that ensued was excruciating and it transpired that I had snapped an ankle bone. That was the day I learnt what real pain was like. I don't think that local councils, when organising their annual budget, take into consideration the fact that people in wheelchairs, and handicapped people etc., have to cross these roads. There, that's my gripe for the day. Keep up the good work squire! 👍

Very enjoyable Charlie...even though you're videos are quite lengthy they fly by because you explain and do everything so clearly that even I could give it a go! All the best.
Charlie, I have worked with plaster cloth on my layout just as you did, and you are so right. It is a remarkable material to work with. I have learned through my own trial and error to modify the technique. Now I cut the pieces of plaster cloth and one by one I lay them in place and spray with water, then smooth by hand. They are easy to lay down dry, the spray when the piece you are working with is nicely in place. This way eliminates moving the plaster cloth around while wet. I love your videos. Best regards, Doxie Frayser Memphis Tennesee, USA
Enjoyed this vid. As always well made. What I found with the sculptamold, was that even here in Australia, it takes a long time to dry. I avoided painting it until it was dry. I also found that the sculptamold will get mildew. In the first run I found the problem, and then used a mold and mildew killer / remover to fix that, and in the next layer, I added some of that to the mix when making up the sculptamold. That seemed to work. There was no mildew in the subsequent layer. The problem seems to be the fibrous filler holds on to moisture for a long time. In the end, I used a small portable rechargeable fan to help the drying process.
Greetings from the USA!! Hi Charlie how are you? A terrific video as usual, I am at this stage of my project so I found this very informative and useful. It is starting to get cold here so I am trying to get what I need for a long winter. I am going to try the plaster cloth before the sculptamold this time. Just a thought with the plaster cloth; if your goal is just to make a hard shell, you can cut the roll of plaster cloth to width and length as one continuous piece, roll the cloth up and dunk it in a bucket of water, squeeze the excess water from your roll and then just unroll it and rub it down and there are fewer or no pieces that overlap. Just food for thought from putting plaster casts on people for a long time. Either way I love your work and attention to detail. Thanks as always for sharing.👍👨⚕️

Thank you for the video. I purchased the same material, plaster cloth, in quantity of 5 pounds (2.267962 Kilos). Doctors use on broken bones to make a cast. That jungle web site has it in the US, not sure about the UK, way cheaper than WS for a tiny little bag of it.
Another brilliant video Charlie, loads of useful info, tips and suggestions… you make it achievable for novice modellers like me to have a go. Cheers. 👍🏽
Excellent Charlie! This is exactly where I am with my build. I have used a modular base of thin plywood on top of my baseboards. They can be taken out and changed relatively easily - if things go wrong! "What can go wrong?"
Hi Charlie, entertaining and informative as ever, I'm going to use grey card as a road way. but a lot of it will not be seen.as it goes behind a hill. I found the fencing you used on right hand hill. Its Peco LK-85, Which replaces LK-45, four rail fence. Looking forward to your next video.
Hi Charlie just love your vids. Have just started building my layout as my retirement project and over the past year of planning have watched your videos over and over and over again and have to say have both learned so much being a novice and enjoyed them so much. Great sense of humour - “that’ll be the phone then” - brilliant love it. Not “ knelt at the alter of Digitrax” but Gaugemaster and DCC Concepts, even so learnt so much about DCC wiring and control as well as all the other fantastic stuff you have covered. By far the best, thank you and keep them coming they are brilliant.
Another enjoyable video, I'm interested to see how the road looks when your finished as I need to put a road section around my station. Look forward to the next video in two weeks.
Another informative video Charlie. I have a road on my layout which I'm not very happy with so that section was very helpful. I do like the way you let your viewers know what the product item numbers are. Quite often others just call them by the name and there can be many similar items on the market. Looking forward to the next part. Keep well.

How have 19 people disliked this Video??? Love your Videos Charlie! When I first came across your channel and saw how long your videos are, I thought not a chance I am going to have the attention span to watch those. 3 months down the line this is around the 25th video I have watched all the way through, taken notes and thoroughly enjoyed. As a bit of an amateur, these are great inspiration and love your simple yet detailed way of explaining everything!
Hi Charlie, great video as per and appreciate the H&S aspects you are keen to remind people on. Just a quick point. It sounds good with the farmland idea apart the one aspect of it's quite a major station and it's rural at both ends. That being said scenery is most certainly an extension of rule 1 and I think it'll look great.
Chadwick Parkway, is an out of town station. The town of Chadwick, which I won’t be modelling will be a much bigger station. I hope that makes sense, regards Charlie
@@ChadwickModelRailway Ah of course. Parkway being the key here. Thanks as ever Charlie for a response and a wonderful channel. Your videos have got me back into the hobby!
Hi Charlie, another great day with you. Wanted to say that I get my plaster cloth from a medical supply company and I pay about the same for a case of it for what you paid for yours. I also don't seem to get smooth it right, it always cracks up if I'm not really careful. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I really like how you did your bridge, I think I might do something like you did. Anyways keep having fun, Chris
Charlie it's not the cloth that cracks, it's the smooth it that I have a problem with. The cloth and sculpt a mode are great. I'm not sure if I mixed the smooth it wrong or what, I just had no luck.
Great video as ever! I'm just getting back into the hobby and hope to document my progress over time! Very early stages so far but your videos are a great help when coming up with ideas! Thanks as always and i look forward to each coming video :) - James @the LWR

Enjoyed the Video - always interesting to see different approaches to landscaping. Thanks for showing the bridge construction those plastic beams will solve a problem I have with a bridge I’m working on. Also have to say I bought/used some smooth-it about a month ago and came to same conclusion it’s really just Plaster of Paris at 6 times the price in expensive packaging - it worked but I’ll never buy it again.
Always really enjoy your scenics work Charlie. Often wonder - like you - about these expensive bespoke products. I did a road with coffee sticks from Wetherspoon (only those I had used) and cheap filler from Wilko. I eventually left the sticks in as kerb lines. Of course I am a miserly old cumugeon; but it looked fine to me. I'm still using J Cloths soaked in PVA; which I believe came from the guy in Dover
What a heartwarming comment Martin. There is nothing to be ashamed of when one is careful of how much we spend on this long-term hobby. Take care mate, regards Charlie
A tip: before finishing the road, maybe lay a little hump running in the middle since most roads have a convex transverse profile to allow rainwater to spill down its sides...
Great video as ever Charlie. I always leave the bottom film on my Celotex, it just keeps everything more rigid as you found. I don't know how much the WS plaster cloth is, but next time you are in hobbycraft buying paint have a look at their own; 3 meter rolls £1 each, not as wide as the WS cloth but the same quality. Regards, Dan
Hi Charlie, with regard to the lift out section is it worth fixing a hook hidden underside a farm building that you plan to place on this top board. I think that I would have made the bridge slightly wider in keeping with the road and run a old tractor or vehicle up and down the road to create tracks before it dries but at the end of the day its your layout so who cares (lol). Always a pleasure to watch your videos and looking forward to the next one, please don't forget to stay safe..
An excellent comment Barry, I’m already unhappy with the bridge! Your point of hiding a hook under a building to the list that section is excellent. Regards Charlie

I shall have to explore a medical alternative. Regards Charlie.
Another brilliant video Charlie, loads of useful info, tips and suggestions… you make it achievable for novice modellers like me to have a go. Cheers. 👍🏽
What a heartwarming comment Nick, regards Charlie.
Excellent Charlie! This is exactly where I am with my build. I have used a modular base of thin plywood on top of my baseboards. They can be taken out and changed relatively easily - if things go wrong!
"What can go wrong?"
We sing from the same song sheet mate, regards Charlie
Hi Charlie, entertaining and informative as ever, I'm going to use grey card as a road way. but a lot of it will not be seen.as it goes behind a hill. I found the fencing you used on right hand hill. Its Peco LK-85, Which replaces LK-45, four rail fence. Looking forward to your next video.
Glad you enjoyed it Michael. Regards Charlie
Very impressive work, I learned a lot. Thank you for the video.
You’re more than welcome Bruno.
A truly heartwarming comment Chris.
Much appreciated, regards Charlie
Great video Charlie, as always. Love the content and looking forward to the next one. All the best. Mick
Thanks Mick, I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it mate. Regards Charlie
Charlie. For the corner ply section you could use small magnets instead of glue. Much easier to remove if needed.
No, I’ve only glued down the peers.I’ll put a hook under a building to lift out the whole section.
@@ChadwickModelRailway Cool. Love your channel. 🤗☺️
Hi Charlie,
If you only peel the foil off one side of the insulation it will bow the whole thing. You did the best thing by taking both sides off.
Thanks very much, it sounds like you learnt from experience on this one. Regards Charlie
@@ChadwickModelRailway Yes, I've given up working with the stuff, but then my railway is now outdoors so I don't need it.
A brilliant video Charlie, some very useful tips and product reviews, look forward to the next instalment, it’s really coming together nicely 👍
Thanks Kevin, that’s very kind of you to say so. Regards Charlie
Yet another fantastic video Charlie, I really like these construction type videos, really looking forward to the next episode
Thanks Alan, it’s great to have you on board mate.
@@ChadwickModelRailway Thanks, just spent the day adding lighting to a coach, I don't really have 00 gauge eyes and fingers anymore :)
Another enjoyable video, I'm interested to see how the road looks when your finished as I need to put a road section around my station. Look forward to the next video in two weeks.
I’m so pleased that you found it interesting Simon.
Another informative video Charlie. I have a road on my layout which I'm not very happy with so that section was very helpful. I do like the way you let your viewers know what the product item numbers are. Quite often others just call them by the name and there can be many similar items on the market. Looking forward to the next part. Keep well.
Thanks Kevin, I’m so pleased that you found it interesting. Regards Charlie
Another enjoyable watch Charlie, can't help but think there's plenty of scope for some nice big ruts and potholes on the road.
Absolutely 4Dads, some nice patch repairs too.
Look forward to your videos Charlie i think the content is great i really love your saying "what could possibly go wrong "
Anyway greetings from Australia, you must feel its a shame your cricket team is not as good as your videos Reg
Fortunately Reg, cricket is not my thing, nor England’s for that matter!
@@ChadwickModelRailway only having a bit of fun Charlie I'm more interested in model railways and I really enjoy your videos. The topics you choose are very informative and interesting and I cant wait for each video to come out. Good on you Charlie you are tops Reg
What a heartwarming comment Colin. Regards Charlie
Perhaps that’s the advantage of buying the woodland scenics plaster cloth, as it never seems to crack. Regards Charlie
What a heartwarming comment James, regards Charlie
Hi Charle anther great video mate I really injoy it every interesting I have some good news on my cataract I am getting one of my eyes done in 8/10 weeks time all being well mate I will be glad to get back to some modelling soon goodbye for how clive in N Ireland
That’s great news on your cataract Clive. You must be relieved, regards Charlie
I’m a little unsure as yet. Let’s see what it’s like once painted etc.
Very impressed Charlie, I'm about to do something similar
Good luck and stay cleaner than me!
A tip: before finishing the road, maybe lay a little hump running in the middle since most roads have a convex transverse profile to allow rainwater to spill down its sides...
An interesting point Jean but I do wonder just how noticeable it would be.
Thanks Dan, I’ll check it out. Regards Charlie
