This vlog is one of my 'go back to vlogs' when I get creative block, hence why I am watching again 2 years on, it helps a great deal and resets my creativeness. Thanks Mark and Gareth 👏👏🤘
Gareth, I must say I love these videos you put out. There is so much inspiration to be taken from these talks, the photos and enthusiasm just makes me want to get out there and try for myself. Great job.
I think my favourite shot was the one at 3:58 - loved it. I'm workshopping with Mark in two weeks and looking forward to seeing parts of London I might not have seen before. I did a couple of workshops with Josh Jackson and Craig Whitehead (Sean Tucker was on one of them) and they were very useful. Watching skilled street photographers work is always instructive - especially if you can do it live up close and personal I don't think you can beat London for street photography!
Great Video Gareth, followed Mark on Twitter for a while, his images are fantastic. I need to take a trip to that financial area, looked amazing. Well done guys.
Fascinating to watch you & Mark in action Gareth & to get some more London location ideas. Also, I had no idea the pro's compose their shots with the rear screen so much, I almost always use the EVF I guess I am missing a trick. Very enjoyable as always cheers Gareth :-)
Excellent video and stella interview. Mark’s work is truly inspiring, I follow him too. I have to say, your images from this walkabout are excellent too. Great video 👏
Mr Gough!! thanks mate!! really good to shoot with him! really nice chap! thanks mate glad you enjoyed it! better than the Florence vid? And more 'fine art' than your kind of street too? haha
First of all excellent video and thanks. 2 questions first do you guys print your images if so who do you use. Second how do you get the distance scale at the bottom of your image on the fujifilm. Cheers
hey man, thanks for watching.. i dont yet print my street stuff.. but i have a pro10s for when i do.. i am working towards a book tho.. well a book for myself.. not to sell. its in the screen settings in the menu mate. cant remember off hand.. ill check
Gareth Danks Thanks Gareth I think that was possibly your best video so far. You pair make a good team with some stunning graphics images. I think I’m going to give this street photography a go I’ve been a bit lost lately regards direction but those images were off the charts. Well done. 👍🏻
Another crackin episode .... so good. I loved the shot when the guy was side on and then turned around facing Mark and his camera. Proper good shot that was. Keep up this great street photography work buddy... it's just great joining you on your adventures. All the best to you and Mark... cheers... Steve.
Great, thanks to bring him in mate. I love Mark Fearnley's work, I am a big fan. I am comparing with my street photography here in Dubai we have totally different environment and lighting you can notice that in my last video, specially we are targeting the old and historical areas. maybe after this video I will start targeting the modern areas in Dubai. thanks again, great video mate 👍
Excellent, Gareth. Well prepared (with your questions) and lots of good techy and artistic info. Near the beginning, you mentioned the 'security' a couple of times. I know they treat the whole area as 'Private Property' so they're able to stop you photographing, so how did you avoid them? Just a matter of keeping your eye out and keeping on the move? Or are there some low-security areas?
hey geoff, thanks for watching.. yeah but id rather speak to them so they can see that were no threat and carry on.. i did keep walking around tho. the security who approached us were fine tho! nice chaps :-)
Gareth! thanks! Good tip! So they're learning who's a potential problem and who's not. Still, I'll leave my tripod at home - they generally don't understand them and possibly confuse them with War of the Worlds.
Great video, awesome photos and a very inspirational location. My how I miss London. BTW thanks for the inclusion of one of my photos at the end, great surprise and very much appreciated.
Awesome dose of inspiration Gareth. I live and Edinburgh and need to discoved some areas like that with reflections but not so easy to find haha I love that he used 18-55 as well. I wont feel bad using zoom anymore and my 55-200 as well lol for street. Just wondering if he used single or continue focusing + zone? I presume you use single one?
Have to agree this was one of the best street shoots I have seen, loved it when Mark did the Harry Worth at 8:34. Did you not get bothered by any security there Gareth? Thanks for a great great vlog.
Thank you so so much for that kind feedback I’m really glad you enjoyed the video yes we did get some security come up to us two or three times as mentioned that we were polite and obliging with them so had no issues really good fun day thanks for watching
Another great vlog Gareth, well done. Just set up my Fuji for BBF but heard Mark say he uses Zone. Can you please explain to a novice how he does that. And another question, sorry! Do you ever change metering modes or simply use evaluative and sort in post if needs be? Keep up the good work. By the way, pic 10 was brilliant, pity I have a bad back, too low for me 😀

Oh man! Of all your amazing vlogs... this one really stands out! Amazing captures, amazing conversations. When u sat down and had a beer, your eyes, when looking at Mr Fearnley... looked like a kids eyes in Toys ' r us. ;) Just great! Thanks so much for sharing, Gareth. Very inspiring.

Once of your best street photography days from what I just seen mate, fantastic, as for my favourite that's a hard one I cant remember the number but maybe the reflective in the water with the subject on the left. I'm heading to London for 2 or 3 day in the next month or two so I have had to add these locations to my hit list.
Hey thanks so much Daniel, appreciate that! yeah was a good day! few pics i love tbh.. we did well in such a short space of time :-) hope you have a good shoot mate
Hi Gareth. This inspired me to brave a visit to London and try to capture some images like you did. I befriended a security guard at Canary Wharf who gave me a great tip for a shot. What a great day, thanks for the inspiration.
Absolute belters. 7 I like because of the 3 lights continuing the lines and creating the frame of the guy on the phone but 10 is superb! The legs match the triangular structure, the perspective is interesting, very nearly a Russian doll effect if there was another person between the legs in the distance. Great video and great shots Gareth.
@@GarethDanks No problem Gareth, really enjoy the videos, in my next video which goes out tomorrow morning I try my hand at some street photography and you get a mention near the start plus an end screen feature. Check it out if you have a spare 5 minutes.
Hey Gareth love your vids! Just getting back into photography. Just re learning to be honest. If you’ve got any walks in South Wales can you let me know please
Interesting that you both used the LCD screen rather than viewfinder. Do you do this for your own photographic reasons or is it to draw less attention to yourself from people?
Hey Gary. Good question and honestly I’m a Evf shooter most of the time. I do this when low angles obviously but if not then it’s for the views benefit so they can see the screen. I prefer to use the viewfinder tho. 👍🏻😊
@@GarethDanks Ah OK it makes sense that it's mainly for the RUclips audience. I always use the EVF too but I can see a couple of reasons to use the LCD. With the camera removed from your eye your sight can take in what's outside the scene and better anticipate when someone interesting is about to enter the frame. Also though I do think it's slightly less threatening to some people who may assume you are reviewing a previously taken image rather than photographing them.
Think 10 and 3 were my favorites. Cool to see you shooting with Mark Fearnley! Also recognized a couple of the images at the end from folks I follow on Instagram 🙌

Does he expose for highlight or shadow if shoot in day light times?
Expose for highlight with digital cameras.. expose for mid tones and shadows for film cameras :-)
@@GarethDanks Thanks so much.. Can you bring Mark Fearnley for tutorials how to convert Black and white from colour like he convert fuji colour to black and white?
Cool video Ga and great interview 👍
hey thanks mate!! hope your well :-)
Great vlog, Gareth - haven't considered street photography before but that has inspired me to have a go! Quick question - do you need to get release forms for anyone whose face you can see?
Hey thanks mate. Hope you give it a go. It’s addictive. No you don’t mate. Unless you intend on using the images commercially 🤪
Really enjoyable video :)
thanks so much jon!
Thanks for sharing one of my pictures again!
I must admit that I have very mixed feelings about this video. I stayed for three days in Canary Wharf last year, and i didn’t take any og those pictures... :-)
your welcome, but why mixed feelings? what were they? im intrigued :-)
Gareth Danks They where mixed because I misses a lot of cool spots. Now I have to go back! :-) The video was great! Two of my favourite photographers!
Very interesting i've learn't alot, i was told that you should always have an odd number of subjects in the shot
"should" not sure i agree.. but yes i prefer it too! art cant have rules tho, shoot what you like :-)
nice session.subscribed.
thanks Paul mate
Great content as always Gareth. What did you have on the end of your 50? I've been looking for a smaller lens hood.
Oh I’m not sure it might of just been a step up ring I’ll have to check but no I don’t have a lens hood on it either
+Jay Cubitt yeah just checked. A step up ring of amazon. 👍🏻😊
@@GarethDanks Ya I thought so, was considering doing that as an alternative. Love your channel brother, seem like a really good guy. Cheers!
