Hi Matt, I had the pleasure of doing one of your workshops in Liverpool about 6-7 years ago and a Photowalk for Wex in Birmingham a few years later, loved seeing you in this video and hope to see you again in the future.
Its great listening to people that know what they are doing and not harping on about lenses and filters and all that crap! I love being out on the streets with a camera and the challenges that you get from people and yes the nearer to the action the better it is. I do take pictures of anything that catches my eye but I am not to sure about projects though, and at my age I don't really care, I just go out and enjoy the day. Thank you all for a great 20 minutes or so I enjoyed that!
Thanks Matthart for showing us your lovely Photos I love shooting Liverpool. It is a great place for street photography maybe one day in the future I will bump into you in Liverpool.
Isle of Sheppey accent, my neck of the woods, well Sittingbourne which is basically next to there. I have a project in mind, I hope no one steals my idea lol. In my high street we have a church and on the wall are 2 square metal plaques, 1 says London 40 miles, the other says Canterbury 20 miles, I want to take a long exposure of my hand flipping a coin between the plaques, title of the project is London heads, Canterbury tails ( a play on words), my aim is to take similar shots in both London and Canterbury, might take a while but I'm sure I'll do it.
@@chasingvenusfilmarts Thank you, I have had this idea for a couple of years but real life got in the way, I can soon make a start on it, maybe early 2024, I have got more of an idea but it could be a bit dodgy, sticking with the London Heads Canterbury tails theme, I take pictures from behind of people from the waste up in London and waste down in Canterbury in a 16:9 ratio then put them together so the bodies line up. Going to take a bit of research and test runs to find similar locations. That is only an idea atm.
Great video - thanks! I’ve just discovered your channel and am currently binging all your videos - such a lot of great advice and inspiration. My new X-T5 arrives next week - looking forward to getting out with it and using what I’ve learned from you 👍
For projects, I organize my photos into folders: animals, film crews, cranes, construction, trash treasures, streetart. I may only take one a month in each, but slowly the folders fill up.
Cheers Gareth, it’s Sean in Atlanta! Matt was also the reason I bought my X100T some years back! I I remember his last video where he said he was feeling poorly and then, because I had started following so many other photographers, you included, he kind of fell off my radar screen! I am so chuffed to see him back and it’s because of you! So thanks, Gareth! I hope you will send him my thoughts and prayers… Sean
I miss Matt.. On Twitter and here on his channel. I've survived two brain strokes (Oct 2018 & Jun 2021), and it's really hard to convey to people if you've forgotten a topic or a detail. Most would think one was joking or being rude.
I used to travel a lot across NY, PA, OH etc. and took photos on my phone through the windshield, and each trip was a project called the "Dirty Windshield" project NY, OH, or PA.
You fellas are SO inspiring and you are really creative without making a meal of the process. Those of us who can't spare the time to practise just make a pig's ear of it !! I loved the last bunch of Matt's photos = Brilliant work. Also your picture of him near the beginning is stunning. Thanks so much for the video, I learnt a lot. 👍
Great stuff, Gareth. I'd love it if we could agree on a project and a timeframe (a year is a little long for me - say 2 months). We could setup a space and share our top 3 images which you could make a video about. What say yee?
It's a while since I worked Art projects, granted I am not a street photographer. But previously I've done various projects normally on a 12-24 week time frame. Spending time planning , researching, test shooting, whether in a Sketch book/Project book, normally around 1/3rd of time then going out to shoot the project, over time. These days the planning and shooting is done in a much shorter time frame as I am mostly in a studio working with people and it is tailoring the shoot to provide the outcome they want, while still trying to express my style to the images
Great video. Makes me want to get out there with my X100V right away. The problem is I live in (very) rural SW France and my favourite "streets" are in Bordeaux, a couple of hours away. I think I'll plan a day out there soon. Cheers for the inspiration. PS. My project idea is to take portraits of all the important people in my tiny town. (Mayor, Butcher, Baker ..... etc).
while i am not a fan of his work, i do enjoy what he has to say, i do think it is important to have projects, and i do think you should be shooting for your self, otherwise you will just burn your self out and give up. I have been shooting for 17 years and yes i will take breaks, but i still love doing it!
Yes mate - or just stick to 1 and see it through@@GarethDanks- we have so much to shoot and you probably have a lot of photos that already for a strong project. Just need to dive in a bit deeper and peace it together and then go and shoot the missing pieces
Thanks Gareth. I really love the symmetry in your escalator shot in particular. I'm assuming you were shooting Acros? Here in San Francisco you have me thinking about several projects. Living so close to a cable car line, I may have to do something related to that. Thanks again!
Hi: I have two projects on the go: (1) I'm living in rural Manitoba, Canada, with a large Ukrainian pioneer culture therefore every little town has a least 2 Ukrainian churches (Catholic & Orthodox). Many of them are scattered throughout the countryside. I'm shooting them with a Konica slr (b&w) a Konica rangefinder (colour), and an old Olympic tlr (b&w). Lots of work\lots of fun. The second project is using the same procedure only shooting old out of service grain elevators. Once this is done. I want to record 'pre-rubber tired farm equipment
In germany, i have been chased down, but she was a little nuts. It was street festival, and I was just taking photos of crowds doing stuff, but seemed to think I needed permission. no problems.
I really look old !!! On a serious note. Great video and editing ! Well done love it. Makes me want to get out and start a new project !
Thanks Matthart great inspiration I will remember what you said in the video cheers 🎈📷
Well done matt. Really enjoyed putting this together. Hope we can shoot together again soon. 😁👍🏻
Next year I will have a project in full swing I hope lol

@@jaypegge Cheers buddy hope you are well. I hope to get out shooting a lot more in 2024 onwards.

Fantastic to see Matt back on the street.
Great seeing Matt again doing his thing
The peace scene the dude threw matching the V of the shadow ❤❤
Very pleasant memories of a free Liverpool street photography day hosted by Matt in 2016. Good to see him about and that he’s well again.
Great to see Matt again, and looking so well. I'm always doing projects - latest is the Eggleston influenced project of yellow and red.
Great to see you and Matt catching up.
cheers mate!! hope your well!! need to start the camb vid
Nice to see a different perspective of my old stomping ground
Nice one Matt and Gareth ........ Nice seeing Chris as well :-) :-)
Had the pleasure to spend for two times a whole day , enjoyed it a lot.
Thanks, Gareth. Good day, even with the poor light!

Great video Gareth, even better seeing Matt out and about, I’ll have to keep a look out when I’m in Liverpool
I have a long weekend 1st to 4th December fancy a couple days out?
Sorry only just found you, this was incredible, thank you so much, subscribed.
Great video Gareth, and lovely to see Matt well. But man, let him talk! You don’t let him finish a sentence! 🙄
Great video - thanks!
I’ve just discovered your channel and am currently binging all your videos - such a lot of great advice and inspiration.

As a beginner, I learnt some tips and tricks of the trade.
For projects, I organize my photos into folders: animals, film crews, cranes, construction, trash treasures, streetart. I may only take one a month in each, but slowly the folders fill up.
Matt’s advice is spot on. Excellent photography throughout the video. Top drawer again Gareth 👍👍
Thanks mate! youll have to meet up and shoot with matt as he's up your way!
Thank you for a great video & introducing Matt to us.
Thoroughly loved watching it. Will come back for sure
Have a great day 😊

Thanks Sean. That’s so nice of you. I’m sure he’ll read your comment and be very thankful. 😁👍🏻
I like Matt and I have more respect for him now than when he was an ambassador! It is all about the art of photography and street shooters!
Another great video Gareth, and some fantastic images by Matt.
Complete Love it with Mat Sir Composition ❤❤ Great Idea trying to work on it

Could this be your best vid . If this vid did not inspire anyone it's time to hang the cam up. Excellent. 👏👏💯

Great video Gareth! Matt is very inspiring - and lovely view toward the LFC-shop ♥️⚽️😊
@ 19:28 : The shot is brilliant ! Excellent Work !
This was really enjoyable to watch!
Loving Matt approach, I need to add the project mindset to my work.
Thanks for sharing!
Hey thanks for watching mate. Kind of you to comment great to catch up the other day
I really like the idea of projects!
Projects keep me going throughout the year and, as Matt says, do help you to see how and if you are improving. Always a must watch, Gareth. 👍✌️
Thanks for the comment mate. What project are you running currently
Im starting my project in April 2024 photographing in monochrome " old Glasgow pubs.

Great video and some great shots captured
Glad you enjoyed it
Went on a workshop with Matt in 2016 with my X100S.
Great video. Makes me want to get out there with my X100V right away.

thats a great idea for a project! i would imagine a style or theme to the portraits would be important to the project too?

I do like the idea of projects and find it interesting to other photographers talk about theirs.
Thanks Andrew. I need to have a good think and stick to some.
Yes mate - or just stick to 1 and see it through@@GarethDanks- we have so much to shoot and you probably have a lot of photos that already for a strong project. Just need to dive in a bit deeper and peace it together and then go and shoot the missing pieces
Project idea: images of doors and entranceways, with and/or without people.
Excellent video and some great images - thanks
thanks so much mate!!

Loved most of those images , Matt came across as a very nice unassuming man, full of great ideas too , enjoyed this one Ga 👊👊
Thanks John mate. He’s a great guy. Hope your good mate
Great video Gareth, inspiring.
I just got my x100v after watching this video just want to go into the streets
Lovely, really enjoyed that :)
I like the idea of projects, but haven't been able to find one that I want to pursue yet.
Great video, perhaps I need to do a project.
Go for it!
This year and next is Black and white landscape with a Canon 600D 18x135 lens. It's fun but a challenge.
While you've been talking,
I've seen about twenty shots
for my project.😊

I have one project going "Random people on phone". This project helps me start focus on something else than this is a bad day to click the button.

Taxi making a right turn between two Wongs signs....
My projects are fire escapes, air conditioners, and tables & chairs on the pavement and bollards.
Holy shit it’s Jason Bourne
God, those photos are amazing! Are these SOOC?
Thanks so much for the kind feedback.. i dont do much editing.
Matt: „It‘s about to learn to see, not to learn to shoot!“
In germany, i have been chased down, but she was a little nuts. It was street festival, and I was just taking photos of crowds doing stuff, but seemed to think I needed permission. no problems.
The video is good but you need to take a back seat and let the guys talk and not talk over them all the time. To me the video is about them not you.
Liverpool is NOT North! Liverpool is west midlands!!
Thank or blame lol
