Exactly what I thought as I watched -- this took a lot of work. Thanks. You may also want to consider transport as a category -- subways, buses, taxis, bicycles, airports, Penn Station, etc. etc.
Street shooting in Brasil may be a little dangerous, but I love it. I have a real problem in dealing with people, and I LOVED the "people implied" idea. Really great.
I can't believe my good fortune to stumble upon this video. I have been doing photography off and on for close to 50 years. I take a picture of something almost every day. This is the most concise, well thought out and informative explanation of street photography I am aware of. Great job!
This is the BEST explanation of street photography I’ve ever seen! Actually it’s the only explanation I’ve ever seen, but it’s really cleared it up for me. Thank you!
Following you quite a while, I just found that video and it is nothing less than brilliant. So structured, so intuitive, so helpful to get an idea what street photography all can be. You should work as a teacher on whatever subject. Your students would be blessed. Great job, best regards from Berlin
I think you nailed it. This would be a great way to start any street photography course. I do usually think about this type of thing before I go out. What do I feel like chasing today? how brave am I feeling? What is the light like? What lens do I feel like using? And then maybe picking 1 or 2 or 3 of these to focus on.
That typology is nothing less than a contribution to photography theory! It helped me organize my own thoughts around a topic that I find fascinating but couldn’t get a handle on because of all these types. This helped me see what I like, a d don’t like, and what I want to do myself. Thank you for that!
I'm still new to street photography and this is very helpful to someone who might be having an "identity crisis" as to what kind of photos they're more inclined to taking when out on the streets. But I've found that the best way to learn is to dive in, learn from experience and in time you'll know what you love and feel comfortable with shooting. It's a never ending journey and expect a lot of failures along the way 😊
Brother you need to put all this in a book. This is what I have been looking for over 10 years an excellent breakdown thank you Omar probably watch this video over 30 times before the year ends. I would like for you to also look at this other RUclipsr can't remember his name but he did a video on nostalgia in photography or street photography please take a look and I would love to see you touch upon that issue in your own words or possibly a video thanks again -Christopher
Very late to the party! Sorry to comment 2 years on…but have only just seen what is undoubtedly one of the best distillations of street photography ideas I have seen.Excellent food for thought and such great examples chosen to illustrate your ideas. I can assure you it still offers great stimulation to be project focussed in 2023! Many thanks for the time you spent on this gem!
I am not even an amateur photographer, I just love to try and capture moments in time. I'm doing this little challenge that may or may not benefit my photography, but i think it'll be fun to push the limits of the veerrryyy little that I do know. This video is sooo helpful!! So thank you for helping a newbie out:)
Omar, I love your gear discussions but for me, this is your best video yet. Thanks for inspiring an older photographer and reminding me of all the possibilities out there for great photography. As soon as this upstate NY snow melts, I'm hittin the streets!
Thank you Omar, this should get me out of a rut and expand on the type of images I make. It must have taken some time to put this together with the images you used, I appreciate it.
Mr. Gonzalez, This is my favorite video from you, the way you’ve explained the street photography with the whole diagram is beyond one’s expectations! Your video is a hundred times more potent than the ones that most people actually pay for. Very Grateful. A lifetime subscriber.
You nailed it Omar!! Great way to put the genre across. The breaking down of the various parts of Street Photography is an excellent way to help people who don't have too much experience. I was intrigued and hooked right to the very end!!!
I go different way right from the first point. Street photography is candid about people but it doesn't have to be literally street. It's any public place imho. Some epic shots inside libraries, stores, train stations etc. are street photography just as much as literal street. I'd call this video "urban" photography types :)
A agree. For me street photography do need people in the picture - or at least people implied. (Domestic) animals in street environment can also be ok IMO.
I think you're wrong about street photography being candid. I've been taking portraits of random strangers around my city and I would definitely consider it part of street
Love all of the examples! I'm showing it to my high school photography class tomorrow and we're going to try to shoot some street inspired shots at school this week. Thanks!
As somehow who JUST got into street photography (and just photography in general), i can't explain how helpful this video was! For the most part I started just taking photos of things that caught my interest (color coordination, patterns) without any particular goal/theme. I think I will try to focus on a few of these types at a time and figure out what resonates with me.
This tutorial was extremely helpful. I am traveling to several European countries this year and want to expand my photographic repertoire from wildlife and landscapes to something that captures the mood and rhythm of city life. Thank you for your insight and your examples! I feel more empowered to experiment and not fixate on trying to make it picture postcard perfect.
a BIG thank you Omar for this brilliant video .... I love / hate street photography and you have inspired me to see everything there is that has potential for a great photo !!!
Brilliant Omar. You can tell the hard work put into preparing this video. So many times I’ve wandered the streets waiting for something to ‘happen’ and come home disappointed. This will really help me to narrow my focus on what I’m looking for and hopefully help me improve. Cheers Omar
This is brilliant Omar - thanks so much for making this video. Equal parts informative and inspirational. So many times I’ve set out to do some street photography in my home city (Vancouver) without a clear idea of what to capture and ended up with nothing. This categorisation helps immensely. As an ex Sociology instructor I also like your description of the ‘mundane’ but would argue that there is a lot of extraordinary behaviour that can be captured in the apparently mundane.
Omar this is a great "discussion" on street photography and gives me a great cheat sheet I can use to inspire me when I am in slumps...which has been often. :D
Just wanted to say thank you for this video Omar. This video propelled me into getting into street photography 1 year ago when you released this video, which has since led me into not only street, but also film photography.
An absolutely superb video Omar! Thought they way you structured the approach to street by separating into the two major groups of without and without people and then how you further categorised them was perfect. Thankyou.
Superb... Ufff, now I have an aim to what to look for while getting off to the streets... Thank you so much....you have one more loyal subscriber... I loved this.... This is saved for ever....
Thoroughly enjoyed this video despite being primarily a landscape guy😳. Personally, I think you are one of the very best photography centric RUclipsr! Deserve 20 times the number of subscribers.
Don't usually comment on YT but this video was brilliant! I'm glad someone who knows their stuff finally came out with a coherent video about the street genre. A+ work here Omar. And your curation of example images was excellent
I think this is awesome! You covered so much. I am a hobbyist and have yet to try street photography. Thank you for all the info. Very good video. Saving it!
You did a great job Omar! Im just start planning what style or type of street photography should I choose. I don’t know how to start honestly and then I watched this video. ITS HELPS ME A LOT.
Outstanding tutorial! Loved the outline form, which made you easy to follow. Three thumbs-up and you now have a new subscriber. We can all tell the video took you a lot of time and effort, but you can relax now and say, "It was definitely worth it."
It is great to have the genre / type of ‘Street Photography’ broken down into segments and explained in its simplest form .. this is a good video for the beginner and those who may need a refresher course in the variation of Street Photography and realising that this genre is more diverse than just ‘shooting photos on the street’ ... thank you and well done sir ...
Wow Omar, seriously your video is just amazing, and above all educative-teaching. There are certainly an uncountable number of types of street photography, but I think you caught the big groups. From a way of speaking, your speech was very organized and logical ! Again, thanks.
I loved this so much! Omar, I wish half my teachers had been as funny yet efficient as you are, I'd have learned a lot more in high school! Keep up the good work!
Thank you. I find this very useful, and if I may, this is like the guiding principles for Street photography. I know some people will argue that photography is an art but technical skill is also essential (example, the understanding of exposure triangle) Great work. Cheers !
Best video I've watched in a while! I was aware (or just slightly acquainted) of all the different types of photography you've mentioned. But distinctively putting them in different categories gave me a better understanding of each type. Better understanding = better photos. THANKS!!
I am going to bookmark this and refer to anyone asking about the definition of street photography. Unbelievable content Omar. Your explanation makes so much more sense with great example photos and I can feel your hardwork putting all these together. You are a legend my man.
No, sadly it's full of misconceptions. You want a real 101 about the genre? Open Garry Winogrand, Henri Cartier Bresson or Osamu Kanemura books and watch documentaries.
This is such a great video, i learned a lot so thanks for an amazing job. Is simple and clear yet is full of useful information. I'm trying Street photography and sometimes it feels overwhelming but after watching this there's so much I wanna try, so thx ✨
This is an excellent video! I'm tapping back into photography and street photography has been the main genre that's caught my interest. This video was a great crash course on the types of street photography and how different perspectives play into each subgenre. Love it!
GUYS! I worked so hard on this video. Crazy how 17 minutes can actually take over a week. Please give it a thumbs up if it helped you at all. Cheers.
Gave it three thumbs up.
Exactly what I thought as I watched -- this took a lot of work. Thanks. You may also want to consider transport as a category -- subways, buses, taxis, bicycles, airports, Penn Station, etc. etc.
Omar, thanks for your hard work on this. I learned a lot from your video!
@@senior_ranger That could fit under THEMED under no people...but I maybe could've added something to people, for sure. Very popular backdrop. :)
Very nice Omar! Obviously this took quite a bit of work but it was well structured and thought out. Would love to see more like this from you.
17 minutes of entertainment, education, and inspiration. What a fun video
Street shooting in Brasil may be a little dangerous, but I love it. I have a real problem in dealing with people, and I LOVED the "people implied" idea. Really great.

This is a 5 star ⭐️ video Omar. Thanks heaps man !
Simplifies, clarifies a confusing genre, I can now focus on one type at a time.
That was my goal!! Thanks!
One of thee most helpful street photography videos on RUclips. Thank you Omar ❤️
This is the BEST explanation of street photography I’ve ever seen! Actually it’s the only explanation I’ve ever seen, but it’s really cleared it up for me. Thank you!

Thanks thanks a lot for it!!!it was one of the best photography videos of my life.
Bravo de cette synthèse qui permet de bien structurer la thématique de la photographie de rue 👌👌👌
I think you nailed it. This would be a great way to start any street photography course. I do usually think about this type of thing before I go out. What do I feel like chasing today? how brave am I feeling? What is the light like? What lens do I feel like using? And then maybe picking 1 or 2 or 3 of these to focus on.
You are brilliant in your your videos. I love all of them. I never realized they “street photograph “ can be broken down into so many aspects. Thanks!
Awesome job! I love your people/no people diagram. Now I want to go classify all my past street photos. Thanks!
That typology is nothing less than a contribution to photography theory! It helped me organize my own thoughts around a topic that I find fascinating but couldn’t get a handle on because of all these types. This helped me see what I like, a d don’t like, and what I want to do myself. Thank you for that!
Selfishly I did it for myself to start. But so happy it can help others.

Thank you Omar, this should get me out of a rut and expand on the type of images I make. It must have taken some time to put this together with the images you used, I appreciate it.

This concept and production is extremely well done----well done! and I almost never comment-but I had to!
You nailed it Omar!! Great way to put the genre across. The breaking down of the various parts of Street Photography is an excellent way to help people who don't have too much experience. I was intrigued and hooked right to the very end!!!
Thanks for the feedback. SUPER helpful on my end.
One french follower more! Simple et easy to understand for not native english speakers. Thank you for this great content.

I went in to this video thinking it wouldn't be that intersting a subject. I was wrong. You did a great job with this. Thank You.
Man this was one of the best videos I have watched in about a week. I really needed this. Thank you so much for helping out
This tutorial was extremely helpful.
Well said....love/hate. After working on this, I "hate" it less knowing I have options if one thing isn't working out.
Brilliant Omar. You can tell the hard work put into preparing this video. So many times I’ve wandered the streets waiting for something to ‘happen’ and come home disappointed. This will really help me to narrow my focus on what I’m looking for and hopefully help me improve. Cheers Omar
Exactly how I feel all the time! Now we can focus on some things and HOPE something happens.
This is brilliant Omar - thanks so much for making this video. Equal parts informative and inspirational. True...I can see focusing on the "beauty of the mundane" as an entire series! Cheers. Thanks for the kind words.
Fascinating overview, thank you! Enjoyed every minute and the wonderful, inspiring examples.
This is the third time I watched this video but still find it so wonderful. Thank you for making this video. ❤❤❤❤
Great Collection of different Styles, Omar. Best what I have Seen and a perfect way to catalog the images. Many thanks

I shared it on FB.

A video packed with information, images, ideas, and, hey, humour! Wonderful. Many thanks.
An absolutely superb video Omar! Thought they way you structured the approach to street by separating into the two major groups of without and without people and then how you further categorised them was perfect. Thankyou.
What a fantastic summary of different styles! Very inspirational. Thanks for sharing.
This is really helpful for someone who is just starting with street photography! Love the content man.
this is superb. Thank you. I can link to this when explaining that fateful phrase “I don’t know what to photograph”
Your videos are awesome as always Omar. Keep going.
Superb... Ufff, now I have an aim to what to look for while getting off to the streets... Thank you so much....you have one more loyal subscriber... I loved this.... This is saved for ever....
great breakdown, it just helped me categorise and organise all the seemingly random shots I've taken.
such a really solid video, i can notice your hard work here. Great content!
appreciate it
Awesome video. All that work paid off. It will give me some direction and inspiration when I go out on the street. Thanks!
Awesome!

Outstanding tutorial! Loved the outline form, which made you easy to follow. Three thumbs-up and you now have a new subscriber. We can all tell the video took you a lot of time and effort, but you can relax now and say, "It was definitely worth it."
I am not a street photographer but have been interested in trying it. This video was just what I needed. Thanks.
Formidable, 100000. Mercis. Très très instructif...! Excellente continuation.. !

New to street photography. Awaiting my Fuji X100f arriving tomorrow. You're videos are SUPER helpful, thanks!!!
Excellent video! thanks for the great thoughts. I never knew where to start with street photography or how to think about it.
Very good Omar; that was well thought through, well presented and entertaining at the same time. You made sense of a difficult genre; great work!
Thanks for the feedback!
Great video - Street Photography simplified and categorised!
Just starting out in street photography. Been capturing images for a long time but never had a go at this. Thanks for the vid. Very cool.
Omar - as always, this is fun, informative, just a pleasure to watch and learn from. Thank you!
Wonderful analysis of the complicated genre of Street Photography.
Thank you so much 😊 this is by far your best photo tutorial ever! We love you Omar 🥰

No, sadly it's full of misconceptions. You want a real 101 about the genre? Open Garry Winogrand, Henri Cartier Bresson or Osamu Kanemura books and watch documentaries.
Great content created. Interesting and useful overview of Streetphotography.
This video helped me understand what I naturally lean towards. This is awesome
Excellent review/summary .... food for thought during the lock down ... Thank you. I need to file this and revisit it periodically for inspiration.
Thanks Omar..I've learned a lot
Great vedio. Helped me to see differnet things I'm doing and can do! Also with answering questions regarding this! Thanks
This is honestly so good!! It’s a resource photogs can use. Great job Omar!!
Wow. Great compilation of the different aspects of street photography. Loved the pics.
This is such a great video, i learned a lot so thanks for an amazing job. Is simple and clear yet is full of useful information. I'm trying Street photography and sometimes it feels overwhelming but after watching this there's so much I wanna try, so thx ✨
