Another informative and inspiring video Gareth..thank you. Birmingham certainly is a place for street photography and I bet you'll find the opportunity to return, especially now you've had a day to familiarise yourself with some key locations. You asked about potential shots you might have missed. I reckon the graffiti image at 07:42 deserved a second look and, possibly something might have worked with the red shutter in the tunnel (08:21), but then that's the point...its subjective as to what literally catches your eye.
I started to get into street photography last year and loved it. I put my camera down after a couple of months because I got distracted with fourteeners and other sports. Now, I am picking up my cameras again; I have the fuji xt20 and canon sl2. Because I don't travel very much, street photography has allowed me to capture beautiful moments in my town, and it has helped me to appreciate art around me. Thanks Gareth for all your tips. Very inspiring!
Hey Mina. Thanks so much for your comment. Where are you based? Canon sl2 is a beautiful camera. I’m so glad I got into street photography. Makes you see the beauty in the ordinary. Thanks again for the comment 👍🏻😊
Brilliant! It's so good to hear something positive regarding my native city for a change. All too often it we Brummies are subjected to nothing but ridicule, right from the architecture to our accents. It's encouraging to see someone else appreciates the same places I've been shooting for years. With it's ever changing stage (you must've come across the latest redevelopments in progress) and endless cast of actors (the population) I don't think I'll ever run out of visual stories to tell. You''ve only scratched the surface in this video so you'll always be welcome to come back again and find more material. Thanks very much for posting and highlighting Brum on the "must shoot map".
You have the first name I always wanted there boyo. Cold month January to be doing any photo. I wasn't doing street photography at the time but I had 2 cameras set up on tripods waiting for the sun to drop down to the horizon over the frozen lake and cast a pleasing effect on the ice fishing huts out on the lake. Had the two cameras because I wanted to use filters on one and make sure I got something worthwhile. You only have what seems like seconds as the sun starts to hit the ground. Hit the shutters, nothing, both cameras dead in the cold. Tried warming them up in my parka, no luck. At that time of the year here, not that many people on the street. The only time I do street photo is in the warmer weather. Great video highlighting some really great spots and very favorable conditions. And good commentary as you take us along on the journey. I will continue to tune in for more. All the best.
Good advice. Just choose one aspect to seek. I don't do street, I am a food photographer, so therefore also a semi interiors photographer. Without reading the comments to spoil, what caught my eye; The entrance to the lifts that had the glass brick wall with top lighting, or the symmetry of the escalators in the foyer of the apartment complex.
Hey Gareth, you’re more towards my neck of the woods and I’ve been to Birmingham a few times so good to see your interpretations of some areas I’ve seen such as the reflections on the station building surface. I guessed either the guy in front of the mailbox entrance or as you entered the hotel lobby - and I think you said it was the mailbox entrance guy in a later reply. It was also interesting to see how you turned what looked like a almost ‘normal shot’ in your vlog into some really nice photos with careful cropping/editing and nice light such as the kiss. It certainly gives me some tips when I shoot next. Cheers, Steve.
Hey steve mate how are you. Yes Birmingham was fun! Loved it. I’ll need to go back for that shot. Those reflections are amazing. Cheers for watching mate. I loved the kiss pic. Utter fluke of course haha
well done, I like that you come straight on the point and inform about interesting details right away, no boring intro, no distracting music. just a little hard to understand sometimes for a non native english speaker like me. great photos! inspiration for my next street trial.
I like the minimalist approach. Many of the high contrast black & white example photos were great. I will be doing my best to capture a moment or two using your settings. I liked the video so much, I subscribed. Peace & Thank you!
I like the scene and perspective at 8:27! The pattern on the left, very contrasty and there is already enough light for a subject. (And cars out of view.). Just need a subject haha! Read other reviews mentioning the lift, but not for me :)
Cheers Gareth , great video, interesting to see the challenges of street photography It's something I havnt tried as yet, I suppose it's a confidence thing for me right now I will certainly be giving it a go soon Thank you
Some really great pictures there. I work in The Mailbox and almost every day I walk past a lot of the locations you spotted. I guess we don’t appreciate what we see every day!
I must say that for someone who is fairly new to street photography you produce some of the best street photography pictures I've seen. I shoot mainly street photography and I picked up quite a few tips from the 3 videos I watched from you on street photography. I really benefit when you drop in technical cues as to how you take your shots such as priority modes or shutter speeds etc and I would really enjoy it if you gave more information about the technical aspects. For example you talked about how to save the highlights by underexposing. most people just say meter for the highlights but they don't tell you how to do it and it took me forever to learn that it just meant to lower the exposure compensation by -1 for example. I also learned a lot about just focusing on textures and pre-focusing the scene. I back button focus as well but I do it instantly when my subject enters the frame but it never really crossed my mind to back button focus the scene first because I'm very impatient lol. I don't have an electronic viewfinder but if one day I do I have learned that setting up the evf in black and white with high contrast and high highlights will help me tremendously with my shooting. I also confirmed from one of your other videos something that I had always suspected which is why can't I get the same results shooting my Nikon entry level camera? I came to the conclusion that based on comments you made about your Sony camera it's the Fuji colors that make the difference. I can't do high contrast high key black and white like you do unless I spend countless hours in Lightroom and Photoshop and I'm still not satisfied. I've come to the conclusion that the issue really is that Fuji has fantastic film simulations making jpegs alone fantastic. Nikon jpeg are yuk and raw file colours suck and I'm colour blind with reds and greens so editing is a pain. Now I regret not buying a Fuji when I first bought a camera. Also I took a quick look at your Instagram and your website and could not see any of your street photography pictures. Where can I see them because I find them beautiful and fantastic to look at and I've learned quite a lot from you especially considering I've done nothing but street photography for the most part and I would love to learn more through your perspective both yechnical and artistic so please keep producing these street photography videos. Although I have been quite successful at editing colors even though I'm color-blind I would really love to do high contrast and high key Black and Whites like you. Unfortunately Nikon entry level cannot produce Fuji look alikes if you will and I have to spend so much time in post-processing for the raw files. So the more you share the technical aspects the more it will help me reach my goal of producing the same quality of work as you when it comes to Black and White street photography. Your work is truly beautiful and it's also taught me to slow down and maybe just give myself one objective every time I shoot like reflections or a specific type of texture or whatever.
Hey Paul.. firstly you win by far the award for the longest ever comment haha! wow! lots there mate so if i miss something im sorry! fuji files yes i love them.. very easy to edit but im sure i could edit a nikon raw to achieve nice BW too.. send me a raw if you like ill have a look.. a big trick with BW is the white balance.. slide to the right in BW and youll see tones of contrast appear you didnt know you had.. also a BW with red filter.. helps sometimes with skin tones.. try that out in Lightroom.. i wouldnt say i mean to underexpose all the time.. it doesnt matter these days if you do but remember your camera is looking for 20% grey so underexposing might be an issue if shooting a white scene... histogram is your best tool! learn that 100% and youll do much better.. & avoid clipping! EVF is a huge help! especially seeing tones.. but you can set your camera up manually take a test shot with the tones and composition and then wait for the shot (providing the light doesnt change..) back button and wait for the shot is essential! and obviously watch the shutter to ensure your fast enough to retain or enhance movement.. im so glad you like my work mate.. i need to start a blog to house all the pics i take. RUclips takes all my time tho!! its insane haha.. im so grateful for your feedback tho mate!! thats very encouraging.. new street vid coming this week/weekend hope you enjoy! :-)
Great video and loved the advice on settings. I totally agree, challenging yourself to look for compositions is super important to building up your “bag of tricks” on the street.
I can’t really say which shot is my favourite Gareth as hard to single one out. All I would say though is the calibre and quality is excellent and how you have gone about creating this session with your confidence and creativity is inspiring for many. Such a good watch. 👍👍
hey James mate how are you!! we will meet this year im sure of it haha.. thank you so much thats very kind.. im glad you enjoyed mate! didnt rabbit on too much then haha.. you need to have a go some day.. :-)
Was up there not so long ago.... great vlog again... good advice and ideas! I always find that you have trouble getting the list checked off and having enough time. Liked the cool dude with the sunglasses against the fence! Missed Shot...... hmmm 7:43 ..... 11:55 ..... ?
Happy new year with yet another great vlog Gareth. 5:09 was a good image with you walking toward the arrows. Favourite shot is 6:55 of that fantastic reflection. Keep on doing what you do mate always a pleasure to watch. Cheers
Hey thanks so much Kevin. Very kind of you. Yes the reflections were amazing. I got an arrow shot but removed it from the vid. Too obvious I thought. Plus I knew I was by them too. 👍🏻😊
Hey thanks so much Kevin. Very kind of you. Yes the reflections were amazing. I got an arrow shot but removed it from the vid. Too obvious I thought. Plus I knew I was by them too. 👍🏻😊
You took some really cool photos on this trip, I especially like the architectural ones, that 'Reflections' one is brilliant! Street photography is a complete unknown to me so I really enjoyed this! I must give it a go here in Bristol at some point. Sam.
Hey Sam. How are you mate. Thanks for watching mate I’m glad you enjoyed. Yes the colours in that reflection was stunning. Lucky find! I’m gonna head to bristol for a street shoot soon. 😊👍🏻
I am a born and bred brummie and I really enjoyed that! but I would say that wouldn't I.....most of the places I instantly recognised other places I did not, I found the pictures you showed us were very good for a stranger in the city and those two guys at the start was a bonus, I am surprised you done so much in such a short time, you need to come here more often but if you let the Mrs go shopping on her own it will cost you, I used to like shooting early on Sunday morning in the winter months, but these days it's only sunny day stuff I do now when I feel like it, anyway I liked what I saw of your photography I have not seen any of your photography before and I only came across this video by checking street photography on RUclips so it's a thumbs up from me, thanks for sharing....
Super mate I think you nailed it mate I have never been there before maybe I should take a look down that way. Like your eye on street and some really good photos. I enjoyed my Manchester street day I vloged so maybe Birmingham or Liverpool next. Simple is ace great processing as well
Thought the mural on the wall was awesome at 7:48! I definitely would've grabbed that one Ben! I think the one you were talking about its at 11:56 with the guy in the hoodie. Love the Finish Line photo!
@@GarethDanks Well, I'm actually quite poor at street photography but I would think that shooting from inside to outside, if you had time to prepare, would give some nice reflections on the wall and the person passing by would be mostly a silhouette. From outside the contrast of the brightly lit yellow walls versus the dark color of the man in the hoodie might look quite good especially since he looked in your direction.
A tour de force! Forget all the gear, because what stands out you do have a very good idea on - composition, tone, looking and seeing and most of all getting street shots that draw you in and make you look. Wonderful images! Just park up in a city and walk round having fun. Really enjoyed Gareth 😊👌
great video, this is how I shoot as well by looking for geometric shapes and nice light. I think it would be cool if you did some future videos with the video rolling in black and white so we see what you see through the camera.
Hey Rudy! thanks for the comment mate!! ill bare that in mind! i did it in this video and i got a few comments asking why it went BW lol.. thought it was obvious haha
Amazing video, it takes such patience to get the perfect shot.... I often feel embarrassed and self conscious standing around with a camera but it really rewarding when you get some great shots.
😂 exactly what I say to her haha. Great minds. I nearly said that in the video too. Although on this occasion I dragged her to brum! 😂 Cheers for watching Mark 😊👍🏻
Thank you for the video, walked the same steps last year, got some great street art shots and stayed in the Mailbox (Hotel) surprisingly good value, funny looking at your work I was concentrating too much on candid's and graffiti and completely missed the angels of the Bull Ring and New street station, Some great pointers thanks.
Haha. Thanks mate. I’m sorry if I do cus it really isn’t and I don’t want people to think that. But it’s worth the effort. And I love the challenge 😊👍🏻
Great video sir, I was thinking the shot you missed was closer to about 12:05 or very close to that. I love watching your street photography vids. Keep it up.
Another great video here, wish i wasnt so worried about taking street photography with people in and what tge reaction might be 😐 as for missing the shot, im going with 18:37 with the chairs or easel stand.
Hey thanks Paul! i wouldn't worry mate! just be friendly and polite if people were to approach you.. it can happen but i just show them the pic and offer to delete if they dont like it.. im normally too far away for them to be a big enough part in the image to care but it is a valid concern! just look and be friendly! smile if they come over and offer to send them the pic.. im too used to being looked at with weddings and events so i guess im used to it now! :-)
In the last few days, I was a little confused about what type of photographer I wanted, but this video attracted me to try street photography. thx btw👍
Sorry I know it's an old video, but very instructive. I wondering what type of metering light system do you use in general for street ? (spot metering for example)
Excellent, thanks Gareth. Its the first time I've viewed your channel and really impressed by your straightforward approach.I willl be checking out more of your videos. great stuff keep em coming. Thanks
Very good video . I do street photography and like it better than any other photography I do. It can be hard. I don't think there's a time when I've gone out doing street photography , that I haven't enjoyed. some good ideas , that I will try .
Great vlog Gareth, I have only done street photography once but wasn't comfortable enough to go below the 55-200! I am sure I could of quite easily as it was Orchard Road in Singapore so it would of just blended in with the tourists. Your video has given me renewed enthusiasm to go and try it again. Cheers and have a good year. Oh yeah I might even get to do Pen-Y-Fan in the snow at last as I have two visits to Wales in February!
hey man give me a shout in feb if your up! - as for the 55-200! youve gotta be kiddin!! i couldnt get anything on the street with that!! plus id feel uncomfortable myself haha! 35 or 50 is perfect! but yeah no need to worry about snapping over there!! jeezzzz so many caeras about lol
👍Well done. Practical approach and technique. Themed image takes discipline, but keeping open to something you hadn’t expected can also be fruitful. Love the dove above shot - very unique with the feet on glass. My guess is that a good spot was at about 5 min with the series of arrows painted on the wall - just wait for passerby to walk in the same direction as the arrows pointed. What do you think of zone focus (manual) instead of pre-focus? Your subject will fall within a zone of acceptable sharpness - easy to do with the Fujifilm lens markings. Cheers.
hey Paul mate thanks for the comment! glad you enjoyed mate.. zone focus isnt something i use regularly.. i tend to find predicting the area to focus at about 8/5.6 on a crop gives a good result.. plus i dont take the kind of image needed for that technique often.. see my Dubai vlog for an example where i did tho.. the very first image i think as i walked past a guy in the market.. some love this method at f11 focused to infinity but i rarely need to have instant focus.. the shove the camera in their face kinda image haha.. tho i did meet dougie wallage in a vlog and he loves that method haha
Great video, I've been really struggling with my street photography. specially overcoming the fear. Great advice about setting yourself a challenge. Keep up the good work. Cheers
Love your work. Really inspiring to watch. Have to try street photography myself one day. But in particular I'm quite jealous at your hiking trips and landscape photography (especially considering the flat landscape scenes here in the Netherlands). Keep up the nice videos.
Some great images Gareth. I work in Birmingham but yet to take my camera out and about. Give me a shout next time you visit and I'll take an extended lunch or late afternoon. I've had my eye on some locations lol
Hey lee thanks for the comment mate. It was on my list but as you say needs good light and I’d lost that haha I’ll head there next tile tho mate. Cheers for watching 👍🏻😊
Great video! For someone with limited experience in street photography you sure have an incredible eye for the genre. Nothing jumped out at me that was clearly a missed shot of the day but I'll guess maybe 8:59 or 11:55.
@@GarethDanks tbh I don't really see any clear compositional highlights or juxtaposition in the scene. The guy in blue hoodie walking past the darkened parking station piqued my interest as I was watching is all.
Superb Video Gareth and full of Ideas that I find useful and very informative, I need to get into street stuff more. I like the use of GoPro on the Hotshoe and must try that.
Great vlog Gareth. I have been a long time Landscape and wildlife photographer, but just bought a Leica as I want to get into simplistic and challenging photography and this vlog was perfect and given me great motivation and inspiration to look for Colours, textures and reflections etc. Much appreciated
So I been following yourself and quite a few other landscapes channels for a while now. And my own landscapes channel is becoming reasonably well established. But increasingly the channels I follow are sort of bleeding across in street photography, so I been exposed (haha) to something I’d never really considered before. And I’ve found myself strangely fascinated by it. So I’d been toying with giving it a try and vlogging it to share my incompetence! But this one has made me rethink completely. Specifically, I really found your self-challenge suggestions and thoughts on texture / contrast etc very intriguing. So I’m now right into the idea. Watch this space ... 😊👍 I’ll be sure to give you full credit and a plug if I pull it off.But If I fail miserably it’ll never see the light of day and we’ll just keep it between ourselves! 😳😁
Haha. Thanks mate. Made me chuckle! Yes I like to try different types of photography. I love the challenge of street photography. Makes you a better photographer too. Keep your images simple and you’ll do great I’m sure. Have fun mate 😊👍🏻
Hey Jackie! thanks for watching! yes me too! couldnt believe that guy had a striped jacked on haha!! italy is amazing for street! i love it there!! :-)
Very good video, the way you talk people through your thought processes is excellent. As for the shot you say you missed for my part I feel there's potential in the arch you walked through with the red doors contrasting with the old brickwork and light, it would definetly be a colour shot.
thanks Tony! thats great to hear mate!! glad you enjoyed it! hope it helped! a few have suggested that door and it would def work! but not the shot i meant! its between 10&14 mins :-)
I would have shot the middle aged couple (she in bright pink) on the Selfridges sky bridge. I always like a pop of color. Good tips on camera set up too!!
hey john mate! thanks for the comment! yeah im not a fan of spot colour.. i used to have to do it a lot for a client haha.. drove me nuts!! appreciate you watching mate! :-)
Love the video. Was the spot you missed that mailbox spot? You literally said take a look at it and I thought, "those strips of light in there and those patterns on the wall look dope af" lol
@07:40 You walked past a Phlegm piece and not only did you not shoot it but you didn't even see it !!! Sacrilege young sir, sacrilege !! Like your videos on street photography keep up the good work. I'm wanting to head to Digbeth myself as a huge Graffiti fan and I believe it's a great place for it.
hahaha sorry mate.. i did see if but its not what id call photogenic haha plus there wasn't anyone by it.. it would have been a picture of a wall haha thanks for watching mate :-)
Great vid as usual. Missed shot? Perhaps the silhouetted person walking out of the dark tunnel into the light behind you as u are walking the tunnel at 8:25 ???
Hey Stephan thank you so much. That means a lot. Hope you make it out soon. Bw is such a great way to train your eye for tones. Have a good weekend too mate 😊👍🏻
Well done... I like picking a spot too and waiting for "That "subject" not always but if I see "That"spot"... I have both the X-T2 ans X-T3... why again do you like the X-T2 for Street? Thx!
hey mike thanks for the comment mate.. you mean the xpro2? i dont have a t2 now i have the t3.. but prefer the pro2 for the rangefinder style.. want to get an x100f very soon :-)
Dude, great video! Love seeing and hearing your thought process while capturing these images! really inspires and shows how these images takes though and patience!! thanks G! Also, Birmingham looks amazing!
Hey there thanks so much. That such a nice comment. Really glad you enjoyed. Yes Birmingham will be amazing. There’s so much development tho atm. I’ll pop back in the near future. Thanks for the feedback mate. 😊👍🏻
Cracking video as always mate. This is one of the good things I like about your channel is that you show the viewer your breadth across different genres of photography. It doesn't look easy but you seem to have a real eye for this stuff, and I really liked the shots of the buildings early on in the video. The one with the reflections really caught my eye. Like with the wild camping videos, you might just get me to give this street photography a try one day. A really enjoyable video to watch with my coffee, so keep up the good work. :-)
Hey man thanks so much!! Did you have that comment pre written or something haha. Thanks mate I’m a jack of all haha. Glad you enjoyed mate. That reflection pic is cool. 👍🏻😊
Haha. I think I went once as a kid! And we didn’t live far! Shame as it’s such a great city! Lots of development tho atm. I’ll try later in the year. 👍🏻😊
Loved all the images and yes maybe missed a few mate, but very hard to record, talk and look for compositions at the same time, but well done and thanks for sharing.
Superb and inspiring, thanks. Street photography is so hard, and you really help break it down to help.
hey thanks so much Andy! thats very kind! glad you enjoyed mate! :-)

Street Photography, I'm finding, is utterly fascinating. Thanks for your, videos, Gareth! Inspiring!!!
Thanks for the tips.. really helpful advise on choosing one aspect when starting out. Your videos with POV on the GoPro while you narrate are superb.
Thanks mate. That’s really awesome to hear. 👍🏻😊
Love your dove with the Seagulls feet quite a rare crossbreed 😁😁😁😁 Brilliant shots quite inspiring.
Haha. I know. Funny thing!! As if I could expect to sea a seagull in Birmingham! Must have followed me there haha
I was just wondering which dove has webbed feet...
Another great video. Fav shot was reflections. Loved the advice simplicity is key
Hey mark. Thanks mate vim grateful for the kind feedback. I think it is with most photography. 😊👍🏻

Missed shot of the day imho is at 10.47 with the little girl starting to run in the tunnel. Great vid again Gareth!!!
Superb and inspirational. Kinda says….just get out there and do it! I liked the “creature with trees for antlers and a landscape back at 07.42”
Hey thanks mate. Yeah lots have said that shot. It’s between 10-12 mins mate. Cheers for watching 😊👍🏻

I will certainly be giving it a go soon
Thank you
Yes that is a factor. But when you get into the swing you kinda shut off from everyone else. Thanks mate
Some really great pictures there. I work in The Mailbox and almost every day I walk past a lot of the locations you spotted. I guess we don’t appreciate what we see every day!
exactly mate!! this is why i was worried about doing the vid i did in cardiff at night!! thanks for watching :-)
I'm learning to "see" potential shots by watching you get pictures that I failed to spot. Great stuff. Thanks Gareth.
Haha. It does get easier mate. I miss loads I see after in my vids

My favorite was "Lost". BTW, I really enjoy your caption titles at the bottom of the photos. They give a bit of extra context to how you saw the shot.
thanks again, yeah i kinda stopped that for some reason..
11:55 ..... ?
Ah what at 11:55 did you spot mate?
@@GarethDanks The tunnel to the mail box lifts! ;-)
Boom! Well done mate. Kicked myself that I was rabbitting to the camera so missed it haha.
@@GarethDanks Can't have eyes in the back of your head.... ;-)
Great thoughts about narrowing the scope of the shoot. I definitely need to spend more time concentrating on light, shadow and leading lines.
+Bob Emmerich thanks bob. Glad
You Enjoyed mate 😊👍🏻
Great video and good advice. Simplicity is the key.
cheers steven! it is indeed! well in my opinion haha
Incredible photos. Loving these videos
nice tips, thanks for sharing your knowledge. At 11:27, should it not have been "Dove from below"?
Super mate I think you nailed it mate I have never been there before maybe I should take a look down that way. Like your eye on street and some really good photos. I enjoyed my Manchester street day I vloged so maybe Birmingham or Liverpool next. Simple is ace great processing as well
Thanks paul. Appreciate you watching mate. 😊👍🏻
Thought the mural on the wall was awesome at 7:48! I definitely would've grabbed that one Ben! I think the one you were talking about its at 11:56 with the guy in the hoodie. Love the Finish Line photo!
Ooooooo..... explain the 11:56 shot to me.
But no I didn’t like the 7:40 as there was no one there to feature in it.
Lots have said that time tho lol
@@GarethDanks Well, I'm actually quite poor at street photography but I would think that shooting from inside to outside, if you had time to prepare, would give some nice reflections on the wall and the person passing by would be mostly a silhouette. From outside the contrast of the brightly lit yellow walls versus the dark color of the man in the hoodie might look quite good especially since he looked in your direction.
@@GarethDanks But you say throughout the video to pre-focus and wait Ben... so that's what I'd have done for the 7:40 mural :)
A tour de force! Forget all the gear, because what stands out you do have a very good idea on - composition, tone, looking and seeing and most of all getting street shots that draw you in and make you look. Wonderful images! Just park up in a city and walk round having fun. Really enjoyed Gareth 😊👌
Hey Mali thanks so much for that kind feedback mate. Very grateful. Thanks for watching. Glad you enjoyed. You should give it a go sometime. 😊👍🏻
good advice on the challenge, just started out with street photography so will try this, thanks;) keep up the good work (and advice;)
Thank you Anthony! yeah keep it simple! look for one subject! youll be happier with the shots you come home with :-)
I like the Webbed feet on the frosted glass shot best. If I come home from shooting street with one good shot, I've had a good day.
haha yes i have days like that too!! thanks for watching mate :-)
Great video. Nice shots ! I love street photography. I just have bought the fuji XT-3 and I'll try to shoot good photos too ...
hey thanks! yes its a challenge but fun! youll love the xt3 its amazing! :-)
great video, this is how I shoot as well by looking for geometric shapes and nice light. I think it would be cool if you did some future videos with the video rolling in black and white so we see what you see through the camera.
Hey Rudy! thanks for the comment mate!! ill bare that in mind! i did it in this video and i got a few comments asking why it went BW lol.. thought it was obvious haha
Nice variety of shots Gareth and it is good of you to take the time to share all those helpful techniques for those keen on Street Photography.
hey Brenda! thanks for watching! appreciate the kind comment!! hope they help!! :-)
Thanks for the video. i bought an X-T3 yesterday and your video has inspired me to get out and see what it can do.
Ah fantastic. That’s great to hear! Hope you enjoy it. Get a 23mm prime and get snappin! 😊👍🏻
Amazing video, it takes such patience to get the perfect shot.... I often feel embarrassed and self conscious standing around with a camera but it really rewarding when you get some great shots.
Another set of great images Gareth - can't wait until the next vlog. :-)
Hey thanks Paul! very kind mate!! glad you enjoyed! :-)
Another great video Gareth. Very enjoyable.
Hey thanks so much for that comment Russ!! :-)
Cracking video Gareth and best way to get out of shopping ever 😂
😂 exactly what I say to her haha. Great minds. I nearly said that in the video too. Although on this occasion I dragged her to brum! 😂 Cheers for watching Mark 😊👍🏻
Thank you for the video, walked the same steps last year, got some great street art shots and stayed in the Mailbox (Hotel) surprisingly good value, funny looking at your work I was concentrating too much on candid's and graffiti and completely missed the angels of the Bull Ring and New street station, Some great pointers thanks.
hey thank you for the comment! glad you enjoyed! the mailbox looks a fab hotel!! very posh! glad you enjoyed mate! appreciate the feedback :-)
Very encouraging, very inspiring. You make it look so easy. Thanks for sharing.
Haha. Thanks mate. I’m sorry if I do cus it really isn’t and I don’t want people to think that. But it’s worth the effort. And I love the challenge 😊👍🏻
Hi enjoyed the video and like the way you chase the light in B/W high contrast, will give it a go.. loved the duck/dove.
Great video sir, I was thinking the shot you missed was closer to about 12:05 or very close to that. I love watching your street photography vids. Keep it up.
It was indeed. What is the shot tho? Remember seeing anything in particular? 😊👍🏻
But thank you! Hugely appreciate your comment. 😊👍🏻
The guy walking on the right side of the frame?
but no between 10 and 12 mins mate! :-)
Gareth Danks You mean I have to watch it again 😲
😂 just two minutes yes you do! Hahah
In the last few days, I was a little confused about what type of photographer I wanted, but this video attracted me to try street photography. thx btw👍
Sorry I know it's an old video, but very instructive. I wondering what type of metering light system do you use in general for street ? (spot metering for example)
hey man thanks for the comment.. i use matrix or evaluative metering. then the histogram :-)
Great attitude to street photography Gareth, never as simple as it can sometimes look.
Hey Graham! thanks for the comment mate! appreciate the feedback!! new street vlog this week :-)
Excellent, thanks Gareth. Its the first time I've viewed your channel and really impressed by your straightforward
approach.I willl be checking out more of your videos. great stuff keep em coming. Thanks
thanks so much James! much appreciated mate! hope you enjoy my other vids too :-)
Very good video . I do street photography and like it better than any other photography I do. It can be hard. I don't think there's a time when I've gone out doing street
photography , that I haven't enjoyed. some good ideas , that I will try .
Great street video, I'll be doing more of this myself this year.
het thanks so much mate!! go for it! its great fun - and a great way to escape shopping haha
Gareth Danks thanks exactly what I do. While she’s in the shops, I’m outside making images :-)
Another great vid. Gareth, so interesting with great ideas to what to look for
Hey thanks so much Keith!! glad you enjoyed mate!!
Man, awesome shots! Some of the best i've seen, you sure do have a great eye
Hey thanks so much. Few other vids too so I hope you subscribe and check them out 😊
Great vlog as usual!I like the details you are giving us for each shot!
ah thanks so much! hope it all made sense!! was tough to do both haha
great video! I love how you explain every details and settings! totally awesome! learned a lot from this vid! 😄👌🏼
Next time your in Brum check out the library of Birmingham great architecture and light. Loved the vid mate
What at 11:55 was it you noticed that’d make the shot? 👍🏻😊
Hey ken. Thanks mate. Appreciate that. Hope you do. It’s good fun and once your into it you won’t mind shopping with the mrs haha.
Great video with solid tips. Keep em coming!
Hey thanks mik. Very grateful mate. 😊👍🏻
Great vlog Gareth. I have been a long time Landscape and wildlife photographer, but just bought a Leica as I want to get into simplistic and challenging photography and this vlog was perfect and given me great motivation and inspiration to look for Colours, textures and reflections etc. Much appreciated
Hey Ian. Thanks mate. Really glad you enjoyed. Hope you do manage to get out. Leica is stunning for street. Have fun buddy 😊👍🏻
I think the spot you missed was the yellow backdrop with arrow on 5:11.
Btw, thanks for the tips Gareth.
Hey Darwin thanks for the comment. No I did get a shot there but deleted it from the vid. The shot is after 10 mins mate 😊👍🏻
@@GarethDanks I'm not there yet. I've paused at ~7:45, love to find a subject that works with that graffiti over your right shoulder.
Going to London in march can't wait to do some more street, it's been a while
hey David! when you going? i might be there then too!
Gareth Danks 29th march to 1st April
just bumped into your channel and absolutely loving your content mate! keep up the great work
hey thanks so much for that man, really kind of you! :-)
You have a very good eye - thanks for sharing your experience and expertise!
Thank you so much. Hugely appreciated Alan. Your welcome 😊👍🏻
Greetings! Very inspiring video! Can I ask you which setting or af-c preset do you use for the street?
hey marco i dont use afc mate.. alway MF and back button :-)
Gareth Danks thanks a lot 👍🏻
Loved the image at 6.25. I travelled to Italy last September and really enjoyed the street photography, some fascinating characters.
Hey Jackie! thanks for watching! yes me too! couldnt believe that guy had a striped jacked on haha!! italy is amazing for street! i love it there!!
Excellent video.. entertaining, educational, and inspirational. Thank you.
Hey Ali. Thanks so much mate. 😊👍🏻
Another great video 👍👍👍
11:27 WHAT ARE THE SCORES GEORGE DAWES?
Thanks for the inspiration to get off my arse and go take some pictures again. Tried the B&W thing in camera and saw so much better 😁
Haha. Thanks mate. Hope so! Great to hear you have tried that. Just make sure your shooting raw too. 👍🏻😊
Great vid as usual. Missed shot? Perhaps the silhouetted person walking out of the dark tunnel into the light behind you as u are walking the tunnel at 8:25 ???
Hey man. Nope not the one I was kicking myself over but yes that would have worked. 😊👍🏻
Great video Gareth, love your street photography
hey thanks so much mate!! :-)
Nice vlog Gareth! Really liked the shots. I really have to try and shot more bnw ;) Very inspiring. Have a great weekend :)
Hey Stephan thank you so much. That means a lot. Hope you make it out soon. Bw is such a great way to train your eye for tones. Have a good weekend too mate 😊👍🏻
Really nice work there. Thanks for the vid.
Hey thanks so much Scott 👍🏻😊
Well done... I like picking a spot too and waiting for "That "subject" not always but if I see "That"spot"... I have both the X-T2 ans X-T3... why again do you like the X-T2 for Street? Thx!
hey mike thanks for the comment mate.. you mean the xpro2? i dont have a t2 now i have the t3.. but prefer the pro2 for the rangefinder style.. want to get an x100f very soon :-)
No... I shoot with a X-T2 and X-T3... Cheers!
I hear the iso is better on the xt2 so that might be better. 😊👍🏻
