Thank you so much for this! I’m learning guitar, and a family member made a deal that if I can play an awesome song, he’ll lend me some cool gear. I’m going to learn and play this song! Thank you so much for making a tutorial that is fairly simple and sounds amazing.
@@n1rvana_ Well, I got the gear, even though I didn’t really ‘prove myself worthy,’ persay. It was a huge ass Marshall amp, broke my back moving it. Feels like I actually have a teacher sitting across from me.
good luck. this is gonna be a hard first song, but it'll teach you a lot if you stick with it, ive only been playing a week now and im trying to learn this lol
I found that in the beginning verse it’s easier to strum the open A string before closing it on 7/9/10/12, but it does sound different; maybe you will or won’t like it.

Sound effects etc. I’m new to playing guitar and want to learn this song with same settings I own a boss katana 2 if that helps You posted this 3 years ago so not sure if you’ll respond but worth a shot
(Depending on the amp) turn on drive, turn to abt 3-5, then put your gain at 6-8. This is what I’m doin on a strat with a fender 15g frontman amp and it sounds pretty close
Really enjoying learning this. My section 4 needs work. Can make it sound right without hitting the 12th on the B in between the 14th and 15th on the high E, can't seem to make it sound right when hitting those notes.
Hey mate love your work! Im trying to get my amp to produce the sound for this sound.. any EQ tips alongside generic amp settings? i.e base, treble, mid etc. Im rocking a Katana MK2 50W
Do you have a backing track for this? Because in the OG Halo Theme it doesnt repeat in the middle so i have no backing to play section 5 and it goes straight to section 6
Depends on your set up. When I make videos I connect my guitar to my PC through a USB interface, then I use a program to emulate an amp (I use Guitar Rig 5).
If you don’t want or have a pc setup get yourself a decent clean amp that accepts pedals and use a tubescreamer pedal with a procorat 2 distortion pedal and you’ll be set on distortion sounds for a bit. Tube is like 80 rat is like 100 and a decent clean amp 200-400
This is 4 months late but it’s a power chord. So if your index finger is on string 5 fret 7, your ring finger is on string 4 fret 9. Then only strum those 2 strings. Just slide the shape up and down to play the other power chords he says.
@@misterchief3390 Also known as an "E" (since it's a power chord it's just an E, no major or minor), as far as learning from tabs go I highly suggest taking some time to learn what each fret is note wise. For example now a days after all my training at it, I recognize the 7th fret on the A string as an E, just like I would see the 7th fret on the G string as an D. I think by doing so you will benefit as a guitarist. You'll also be able to explain the chord much much simpler than the way you did there. In truth learning from tabs purely is basically just a harder version of guitar hero, sure you can memorize a kickass guitar solo because you took the time to memorize the tabs and how it all goes, but you'll never be able to improvise properly, and it makes memorizing so much harder and it's a longer process. For example, my fav solo is from Hotel California by the eagles, that entire solo is built on the B minor scale, if you know the structure of the B minor scale across the fretboard then learning the solo becomes a hella lot easier because you basically already know where to go, it's just matter of finding the order. I started when I was 12 (15 years ago), and I never learned how to read sheet music, nor did I ever take a lesson. I learned from tabs, but I then I took time to learn the letters (notes) that correspond with the numbers on the tab (it takes a long time) , and I took lots of time to learn major chords, minor chords, 7th's, etc (also all free on the internet). Now instead of sitting here memorizing tabs I more or less figure out what key the solo or song is in, and right away as I was saying I pretty much know exactly where to go. Doing so enhances your abilities a lot, you'll learn songs way faster, you'll figure out songs by ear quicker, and lastly you can jam with people that actually took music lessons and were formally trained and still follow along. Something that relates to this is the way I started learning piano, I used synthesis which is that thing where you see the notes coming at someone guitar hero style while they play. I quickly learned that doesn't teach you shit, because it's all just memorizing what keys to hit much like memorizing a guitar tab. I did the same thing and learned chords and scales and remmebered those, now while watching a piano cover with Synthesia I can disect what chord structures are being used, and just like with guitar, I learn a hella lot faster and understand the instrument a lot more. I guess my overall point is, you don't need music lessons to learn to play, but you can't purely rely on tabs and synthesia or you'll always be a limited musician who can only go so far.
I got it using a Fuzz Pedal into a Distorted Amp, with Single-coils as not to make it too fuzzy. And I also got good results with a OD into a Big Muff with not too much gain on the Muff (like ~1/3), you want it to feedback and not sound too broken. For both i use a long reverb to make it sustain and feedback. Just experiment with enough gain to make it sustain, and then EQ it with the controls on the Pedal and Amp to fine tune it. It is not a very specific sound. BTW i use a Peavey Bandit solid State.
through me off a little because mine wasn't sounding the same. i realized you aren't sticking to the tabs when playing along you are adding little bits of flair. flair is cool but in a tutorial stick to the tabs you put on the screen. Aren't we supposed to be playing along the same thing. now that i identify the added notes I can play pass it without thinking i missed something. regardless of that feedback it is a great tutorial thank you
